Overview

What the Vero Zapier integration actually does

Vero is an email platform that sends messages based on what your users do. Connecting it to Zapier lets your email results move by themselves: a delivery, an open, a click or an unsubscribe starts an automation, and Zapier can write back into Vero to create, tag, track or remove a user.

Three results people usually build first. Engaged readers tagged on the spot: Email Clicked or Email Converted feeds Update User's Tags, so your next segment is ready before you open Vero. A clean list: Email Bounced and Email Complained start a Zap that runs Unsubscribe a User, and nobody keeps mailing a dead or annoyed address. Product activity inside Vero: Track an Event and Create or Update a User push what happens in your app into Vero profiles, which is what event-based emails need.

The good news for a free account: all 11 Vero triggers are instant. Vero warns Zapier itself, so the polling interval of your plan never slows these Zaps down. That is rare, and it is the main reason this pairing works well without upgrading.

What Zapier does not do here: it cannot look a Vero user up (there is no search step), it cannot send a campaign or an email, and it cannot read your past activity. It only reacts to what happens after the Zap is on, and its actions all revolve around one user at a time.

If you want to compare, the Vero n8n integration and the Vero Make integration pages cover the same app on the two other platforms.

Vocabulary

Zapier words you will meet on this page

Seven terms, each in plain English. You will see them in the editor as soon as you start.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. With Vero, it is an email event (sent, opened, bounced…) or a change on a user.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that creates, tags, tracks or unsubscribes a Vero user for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One action that completes successfully is one task, and your plan counts those every month.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself, through a webhook, the moment the event happens. Every Vero trigger is of this kind.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items. Its interval depends on your plan. Vero has none.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets your condition. It makes the Zap multi-step, so paid.
Cost

What a Vero Zap really costs

Vero is not a premium app on Zapier, so it works from the free plan. The bill is counted in tasks, not in triggers.

  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Vero triggers11 instant, 0 polling
  • What countsEach successful action, never the trigger

The trigger never costs anything: Vero can report every open of a campaign and listening still costs zero. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, and an action that fails is not billed. A Zap with three actions eats three tasks per run. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps only, one trigger and one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below only concerns polling triggers, so it never slows a Vero trigger down.

Connect

Connect Vero to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Vero account linked once, then reused by every Zap that touches Vero.

  2. 02

    Find Vero and confirm

Type Vero in the search box of the dialog, pick it, then click Add connection. You need an existing Vero account, since you sign in to it in the very next step.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Sign in to Vero in the tab that opens and allow Zapier to use the account. If the Vero workspace belongs to someone else, ask for access to the users you plan to touch before you start.

First Zap

Your first Vero Zap: tag and log every click

GoalWhen a subscriber clicks a link in a Vero email, add a tag to that user and record the click as an event in Vero.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Click Build, choose Vero and the event Email Clicked, then select the Vero connection you set up in the previous section, so every step uses the same account.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Click Test. Zapier brings back the three most recent clicks of the account, so you map the next steps on a real one rather than an empty example.

  3. 03

    Add Update User's Tags

Add a Vero step with Update User's Tags. Map the user identifier from the trigger into User's ID, then type the tag to add. Add or remove can each be empty, not both.

  4. 04

    Add Track an Event

Add a third step, Track an Event, with the same User's ID and an event name. Reuse the exact spelling your Vero account already tracks, or you will split one event in two.

  5. 05

    Test and Publish

Run each step with Test, then check the user in Vero. Click Publish to switch the Zap on. With two actions it is multi-step, so this one needs a paid plan.

Triggers

The 11 Vero triggers

11 events start a Zap when something happens in Vero, and 11 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Email Bounced

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an email bounces.”

A Vero email could not reach its recipient, and Zapier receives that bounce as soon as Vero records it. Your Zap starts with the details of the failed delivery, ready to act on the user behind it.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you send to a list that ages fast, such as trial sign-ups, and want a bounce to remove the address or to alert whoever owns that account.
Watch out
read the three samples Zapier brings back during the test before deciding to unsubscribe anyone automatically.
2

Email Clicked

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a link in an email is clicked.”

Fires each time someone clicks a link inside one of your Vero emails. It is the most direct sign of interest you can catch, and the Zap gets it without delay.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you run a product newsletter and want readers who click a feature announcement tagged in Vero, or flagged for your sales team the same afternoon.
Watch out
one reader clicking three links starts three runs, and each action in those runs is billed as a task, so pair it with a filter if the volume matters.
3

Email Complained

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an email bounces.”

Catches the moment a recipient complains about one of your emails, the signal you least want to ignore when your sender reputation is at stake.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you want any complaint to unsubscribe the user immediately and to leave a trace your team reviews, instead of discovering it in a monthly report.
Watch out
the description Zapier shows for this trigger repeats the bounce wording, so run a test and read what actually comes back before you map anything.
4

Email Converted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an email converts.”

Runs when Vero records a conversion on one of your emails. It turns a campaign result into something your other steps can use right away.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you sell online and want buyers who came from an email to receive a customer tag in Vero, so they stop getting the offer they just accepted.
Watch out
the buyer is tagged only once the Zap is published; conversions that happened earlier are never sent to Zapier.
5

Email Delivered

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an email is delivered.”

Reports every email Vero manages to hand over to the recipient's mailbox. Expect a high volume: one run per delivered message, on every campaign.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you need proof of delivery for a specific transactional message, for example to confirm in another step that an account notice really went out.
Watch out
on a large list this trigger starts a run for every single recipient, and each successful action in those runs counts against your monthly tasks.
6

New User

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new user is created.”

Starts the Zap when a new user is created in Vero, so the profile can be put to work the moment it exists.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you want each new Vero profile to receive a starting tag, or to be logged as an onboarding event, so your first sequences target the right people.
Watch out
a Zap that creates users with Create or Update a User and also listens to New User on the same account can set itself off again and again.
7

Email Opened

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an email is opened.”

Tells your Zap that a recipient opened a Vero email. It is a softer signal than a click, but it shows who still reads you.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you want to tag readers who opened your renewal reminder, so the follow-up goes only to the people who have not seen it yet.
Watch out
opens arrive in large numbers on big sends, and every action they start is a task, so keep this one for targeted messages rather than every newsletter.
8

Resubscribe User

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a user resubscribes.”

Triggers when a user who had left your list comes back and resubscribes in Vero. Your Zap knows straight away that this person can be contacted again.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you want a returning subscriber to lose an old churn tag, or to be logged as an event, so your segments stop treating them as gone.
Watch out
this is the mirror of Unsubscribe User; if both Zaps write tags on the same user, test them together so one does not undo the other.
9

Email Sent

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an email is sent.”

Fires as soon as Vero sends an email, before any delivery, open or click result exists. It records that the message left, nothing more.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you keep a log of which users received a given sequence step, or want to mark a user once a critical message has gone out.
Watch out
sent does not mean delivered; if what matters is that the message arrived, use Email Delivered instead.
10

Unsubscribe User

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a user unsubscribes. We will send you specific user's data when a user unsubscribes.”

Kicks in when a user unsubscribes in Vero, and passes the data of that specific user to your Zap, so the next step knows exactly who left.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you want every unsubscribe tracked as an event and tagged, so your team can see which sequences push people away.
Watch out
only unsubscribes that happen after the Zap is published are caught; people who left before that are never sent to Zapier.
11

Update User

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a user's details are updated.”

Reacts whenever a user's details change in Vero, for instance after your app or another tool updates a profile property.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
you want a profile change, such as a plan switch recorded on the user, to add the matching tag without anyone editing it by hand.
Watch out
Create or Update a User writes user details too, so a Zap that runs it on the user it listens to can set itself off again and burn tasks.
Actions

The 7 Vero actions

Vero gives you 7 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Alias a User

Action

In Zapier“This endpoint lets you change a user’s identifier (id).”

Changes the identifier of an existing Vero user, from its current ID to a new one you give.

When to use it
your users start anonymous with an internal ID and later give an email address that should become their identifier.
Watch out
both the current ID and the new ID are required, and the current one must already exist in Vero.
2

Delete a User

Action

In Zapier“This endpoint lets you delete a single user. Danger: When deleting a user, all properties and activities will be lost forever. Deleted users are not recoverable.”

Removes a single user from Vero. All of that user's properties and activity are lost for good, and a deleted user cannot be recovered.

When to use it
you process deletion requests and need the person gone from Vero once the request is approved upstream.
Watch out
test it on a dummy profile first; there is no undo on the Vero side.
3

Track an Event

Action

In Zapier“Track an event in Vero for a user when they take a specific action.”

Records an event for a user in Vero, from a User's ID and an event name. That event can then start or steer your event-based emails.

When to use it
a purchase or a feature activation happens in another tool and should trigger a Vero campaign.
Watch out
Vero treats spaces and underscores as the same thing, so "Signed up" and "signed_up" end up as one event.
4

Resubscribe a User

Action

In Zapier“Resubscribes a user”

Puts a previously unsubscribed user back on your Vero marketing emails, using only the User's ID.

When to use it
someone opts back in through a form or a support request handled in another tool, and Vero has to know.
Watch out
the step only needs the User's ID, so make sure the person really asked to come back before it runs.
5

Update User's Tags

Action

In Zapier“Add or remove tags for a user. Although both add and remove have been marked as optional, at least one is required.”

Adds tags to a Vero user, removes some, or does both in one step. Both fields look optional, yet at least one of them must be filled.

When to use it
you segment by tag and want each email reaction to move people into the right group automatically.
Watch out
leaving add and remove both empty makes the step fail, and the Zap stops there.
6

Unsubscribe a User

Action

In Zapier“Unsubscribe a user in Vero so that they no longer receive any marketing emails (transactional emails will still be sent).”

Stops the marketing emails Vero sends to a user. Transactional emails keep going out.

When to use it
a complaint, a bounce or a request received elsewhere should take the person off your campaigns at once.
Watch out
the User's ID must match your Vero setup, which is commonly the email address but not always.
7

Create or Update a User

Action

In Zapier“Identify or update a user's profile in Vero. If you trigger this event and a user with the provided ID does not exist, Vero will create one. If a user with the ID already exists, we'll update that user and their properties.”

Sends a profile to Vero using the User's ID you provide. If no user has that ID, Vero creates one; if it exists, Vero updates its properties.

When to use it
a sign-up form or a CRM adds people, and you want each of them to exist in Vero with up-to-date properties before the welcome sequence.
Watch out
a typo in the ID silently creates a second user instead of updating the first one.
When it breaks

When a Vero Zap breaks

Zapier lists no help article specific to Vero. What breaks comes from how Zaps work in general, and from the way Vero identifies users.

Four situations explain the failures you are likely to meet. If a run errors and you cannot see why, our Zapier troubleshooting page walks through the checks.

  • Nothing from before the Zap

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Past bounces, opens or unsubscribes are never sent; moving that history is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

Listen to New User or Update User and write to the same users with a Vero action, and each write can start the Zap again, eating tasks fast.
  • A sudden flood after a big send

A huge batch of events, for example right after a large campaign or an import, can be held back by Zapier's flood protection instead of running at once.
  • The wrong User's ID

Every action needs the identifier your Vero account uses. Map an email where Vero expects an internal ID and the step creates or edits the wrong person.

FAQ

Vero Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Vero Zapier integration free?
Yes, as far as Zapier goes. Vero is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, which gives you 100 tasks a month and Zaps made of one trigger and one action. As soon as you add a filter or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid Zapier plan. If you only need a single reaction, like tagging a user after a click, the free plan is enough to run it for good.
02How many tasks does a Vero Zap use?
One task per action that completes successfully, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that listens to Email Clicked and runs Update User's Tags costs one task per click. If you add Track an Event as a second action, each click costs two. An action that fails is not billed. The trap with Vero is volume: triggers like Email Delivered or Email Opened fire once per recipient, so a large send can produce a lot of runs, and every successful action in them is counted against the monthly allowance of your plan.
03Does the Vero integration work in real time?
Yes. All 11 Vero triggers are instant: Vero itself tells Zapier when the event happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. The polling interval of 15 minutes on the free plan does not apply to them, because that interval only concerns triggers Zapier has to check on a timer. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. On these triggers the free plan reacts as fast as any paid plan, which makes Vero a good app to learn Zapier on.
04What does it take to connect Vero to Zapier?
An existing Vero account, and access to the users your Zap will touch if the workspace is not yours. The connection takes three moves: open Apps in Zapier and click + Add connection, search for Vero and confirm with Add connection, then sign in to Vero and allow access. Before building, find out which identifier your Vero setup uses for users, often the email address, because every action asks for a User's ID and a mismatch sends the data to the wrong profile or creates an unwanted one.
05Why did Create or Update a User make a duplicate in Vero?
Because the User's ID you sent did not match an existing user. Create or Update a User looks for that exact identifier: if it finds it, it updates the profile, and if not, it creates a new one without warning you. An internal ID mapped where Vero expects the email address is enough to split one person into two profiles. Check the value in the test of the step, and use the same identifier everywhere your Zaps write to Vero, including Track an Event and the tag action.
06What if the Vero action you need is not in Zapier?
Then Zapier cannot do it for Vero today. The integration offers 18 operations in total, 11 triggers and 7 actions, and no search step, so it cannot look a user up, send a campaign or read past activity. Check the list on this page first, since the names in the editor stay in English. If what you need is missing, compare with the Vero pages for Make and n8n on this site before deciding, or rethink the flow so that a trigger from Vero hands the job to another tool you already use.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Vero?
It depends on your criteria rather than on a winner. Zapier makes sense if your need fits in the 11 instant triggers and 7 user actions listed here and you want a guided editor with a free plan. Look at Make or n8n if you need operations that Zapier does not expose for Vero, or if your team already builds its automations there. The best test is concrete: write down the exact events and actions your flow requires, then check them against the operation lists of each platform for Vero.
