What is the best ecommerce loyalty program software in 2026?

Ten points, VIP and referral apps ranked for online stores, from Shopify to WooCommerce.

Start with one number: your monthly orders. Almost every loyalty app bills on it. If you sell across several platforms and want loyalty, referrals and reviews from one vendor, Yotpo is the deepest option (Pro from $199 a month). If you want VIP tiers without the $199 jump, BON Loyalty bundles them into Growth at $129 with unlimited orders. A small Shopify store can start free with Smile.io (200 orders) or LoyaltyLion (400). On WooCommerce, WPLoyalty has a free version and Starter at $105 a year at list price.

How we ranked

How we compared and ranked

We started from the invoice, not the feature list. For each app we read the official pricing grid and noted the plan where three things show up: points, referrals and VIP tiers. Then we priced four typical Shopify stores, from 500 to 3,000 orders a month. Finally we read the one-star reviews on the Shopify App Store for each app. That is where duplicate discount codes, price hikes and painful cancellations surface.

When a tool already has a score on our other Labs pages (Yotpo, BON Loyalty, LoyaltyLion, Rivo, Smile.io, Growave, Gameball), we reuse it unchanged. Enterprise platforms with no public price (Open Loyalty, Antavo) sit outside the ranking. So does Stamped: its loyalty pricing was not readable on an official page when we ran this comparison.

Best for brands selling on several platforms

Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals

4.1/5

Yotpo is the most feature-rich app in this ranking, which is why it scores 4.8 on features. On Pro, shoppers redeem points right at checkout instead of copying a discount code, and webhooks push loyalty events into your CRM or email tool.

It also covers more platforms than any other ranked app: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce and Salesforce Commerce Cloud, though Adobe Commerce and Salesforce go through a generic integration rather than a dedicated connector. Pro costs $199 a month with 500 orders included. After that, each order costs $0.20 up to 1,000, then $0.10 up to 3,000, then $0.05. Yotpo's own pricing page and its Shopify App Store listing don't quite match: the listing limits the free plan to stores under 100 monthly orders and quotes "$0.08 to $0.20 per order". Get the grid confirmed on your quote. VIP tiers are listed under Premium, on quote.

Standout features
  • Checkout redemption on Pro
  • Webhooks for the rest of your stack
  • Loyalty, referrals and reviews from one vendor
+Pros
  • ✓Richest feature set in the ranking (4.8)
  • ✓Well-rated support (4.2)
  • ✓Five platforms, WooCommerce included
−Cons
  • ✗VIP tiers sit in Premium, on quote
  • ✗Per-order fees past 500 on top of $199
  • ✗Some merchants report support replies taking weeks
Verdict

The right call when your brand already has volume, sells beyond Shopify, or wants one vendor for loyalty and reviews. Under 500 orders a month you are paying for power you will not use: look at BON or Smile.io.

2
Best for VIP tiers at a flat price

BON Loyalty

4.0/5

BON Loyalty has the best value score in our comparison (4.6), and one line of its pricing explains why: Growth, at $129 a month, includes VIP tiers and unlimited orders. On Smile.io or Growave, the same tiers cost $199 and the bill keeps rising with volume.

The free plan is free forever up to 150 orders and includes referrals with built-in anti-cheat. Basic, at $29, adds Shopify POS and multilingual. Growth also adds B2B tiers for wholesale buyers. BON is Shopify only.

Standout features
  • VIP and unlimited orders for $129/mo
  • Referral anti-cheat from the free plan
  • B2B tiers on Growth
+Pros
  • ✓Best value in the ranking (4.6)
  • ✓Easy setup (4.5)
  • ✓Flat bill even during sales peaks
−Cons
  • ✗Shopify only
  • ✗Fewer integrations (3.4)
  • ✗Only a 7-day trial before the first charge
Verdict

Our pick for most Shopify stores that want a VIP club. Before launch, check that points redeemed at POS are actually deducted: that is the recurring complaint in its low reviews.

3
Best free plan for a growing store

LoyaltyLion

3.9/5

LoyaltyLion has the biggest free plan here: up to 400 orders a month, twice what Smile.io or Growave allow. Its integrations score 4.5. Off Shopify, custom storefronts can use its API.

Then the price jumps. Classic is $199 a month for 500 orders. VIP tiers are a paid add-on there, and come included in Advanced, on quote, along with multilingual and multi-location POS. Merchants also complain about yearly price increases and translations billed separately.

Standout features
  • Free up to 400 orders a month
  • Installs on Shopify or via API
  • Advanced features (4.5)
+Pros
  • ✓Most generous free plan in the ranking
  • ✓Strong integrations (4.5)
  • ✓API for custom storefronts
−Cons
  • ✗Jump from $0 to $199 with nothing in between
  • ✗VIP tiers a paid add-on on Classic
  • ✗Weak value score (3.2)
Verdict

The best free starting point under 400 orders. The day you want VIP tiers, put the Classic VIP add-on (or an Advanced quote) next to BON Growth at $129.

4
Best for brands with retail locations

Rivo

3.9/5

Rivo is built for Shopify brands, with a pricing page aimed at Shopify Plus. On the Shopify App Store, the free plan runs up to 200 monthly orders and Essential is $15 for 500. Scale, at $49, includes 400 orders, adds $20 per extra 100 and caps at $499, with VIP tiers and three retail locations.

Plus, at $499, goes up to 2,500 orders. Beyond that it's Enterprise, on quote. The add-ons cost extra: Cashback from $199 and Accounts from $499. Rivo's own site frames Scale a little differently (200 to 2,500 orders, a 7-day trial versus 14 on the listing): go by the listing, since that's what Shopify bills. Rivo is Shopify only.

Standout features
  • Three POS locations on Scale
  • Up to 2,500 orders on Scale
  • Cashback and Accounts as add-ons
+Pros
  • ✓One of the cheapest paid entries ($49)
  • ✓Solid features (4.2)
  • ✓Built with Shopify Plus brands in mind
−Cons
  • ✗Two official grids that don't match
  • ✗Scale price moves with volume
  • ✗Lower support score (3.6)
Verdict

A good fit for a Shopify brand with retail stores that wants to stay under $199. Ask for written confirmation of what Scale includes at your volume.

5
Best for starting free

Smile.io

3.8/5

Smile.io is the most reviewed loyalty app in this ranking, with more than 4,600 reviews on the Shopify App Store. Its free plan covers 200 orders a month and already includes points, rewards, referrals and Shopify POS. For a first program, setup does not get much easier (4.2 on ease of use).

The catch sits higher up. VIP tiers and points expiry only arrive on Growth at $199 a month. One merchant put it bluntly: "you will be forced to pay $199/mo FOREVER" once customers get used to their tier (Shopify App Store review). Another found more than 12,000 discount codes created through the app after referral abuse.

Standout features
  • Points, referrals and POS on the free plan
  • Shopify and BigCommerce
  • CSV export of points balances if you leave
+Pros
  • ✓Full free plan up to 200 orders
  • ✓Very easy setup (4.2)
  • ✓Middle plans at $15 and $79
−Cons
  • ✗VIP tiers and points expiry only at $199
  • ✗$20 per 100 extra orders on Growth
  • ✗No WooCommerce or PrestaShop
Verdict

The best start if you only want points and referrals. If you already know you will want VIP tiers, compare BON or Joy at $129 before customers get used to a tier.

See Smile.io plans → →
6
Best for loyalty and reviews in one app

Growave

3.8/5

Growave bundles points, product reviews and wishlists into one app, on the free plan. For a small store, that is one less subscription. Referrals start on Entry at $15, with fraud protection.

Like Smile.io, VIP tiers wait for Growth at $199 a month for 1,500 orders. Growth also adds Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes and pushes reviews to Google Shopping. One merchant flagged a costly bug: coupons that stayed active after customers redeemed them.

Standout features
  • Points, reviews and wishlists on the free plan
  • Referral fraud protection from Entry
  • Wallet passes and Google Shopping reviews on Growth
+Pros
  • ✓Three apps in one
  • ✓Good value at the low end (4.0)
  • ✓Overage gets cheaper on Plus
−Cons
  • ✗No referrals on the free plan
  • ✗VIP tiers only at $199
  • ✗Check that redeemed coupons really expire
Verdict

A good pick for a young store that also wants to collect reviews. At 3,000 orders with VIP tiers, though, it is one of the heaviest bills in the ranking.

7
Best for VIP and B2B tiers at $129

Joy Loyalty

3.8/5

Joy, made by Avada, is the real alternative to BON on VIP pricing. Advanced, at $129 a month, includes 2,000 orders, VIP tiers, B2B tiers, Shopify POS, Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes, and even paid memberships for your club.

Its free plan is a bit bigger than BON's (250 orders). The split comes above 2,000 orders: Joy charges $10 per 100 extra orders, BON stays at $129. Ultimate, at $499, opens the API and headless storefronts. Joy is Shopify only.

Standout features
  • VIP and B2B tiers for $129
  • Paid memberships on Advanced
  • API and headless on Ultimate
+Pros
  • ✓Free up to 250 orders
  • ✓Easy setup (4.3)
  • ✓A lot of features for $129
−Cons
  • ✗Shopify only
  • ✗$10 per 100 orders above 2,000
  • ✗Fewer integrations (3.4)
Verdict

An excellent pick between 500 and 2,000 orders a month. Beyond that, BON wins on unlimited orders.

8
Best for VIP tiers on a tight budget

Gameball

3.7/5

Gameball is the cheapest way to get VIP tiers in this ranking. Starter, at $34 a month, includes 1,000 orders and five VIP tiers. For comparison, Smile.io and Growave charge $199 for the same feature, BON and Joy $129.

The free plan is measured in "MRCs" (up to 100) rather than orders, so ask what the unit means before you launch. Pro, at $159, unlocks unlimited tiers. Support scores well (4.0), integrations less so (3.2).

Standout features
  • Five VIP tiers from $34
  • 1,000 orders included on Starter
  • Unlimited tiers on Pro
+Pros
  • ✓Cheapest VIP in the ranking
  • ✓Well-rated support (4.0)
  • ✓7-day trial
−Cons
  • ✗Free plan unit ("MRC") less clear than orders
  • ✗Starter capped at 1,000 orders
  • ✗Limited integrations (3.2)
Verdict

The right pick on a tight budget when you want a VIP club today. If you expect to pass 1,000 orders, rerun the math against BON Growth.

9
Best for EU data and PrestaShop

Loyoly

3.7/5

Loyoly is a French vendor with a Paris-based team and data hosted in Europe. It is the only SaaS app on this page with an official PrestaShop module, alongside Shopify and Shopify Plus. Modules exist for PrestaShop 1.7 and 8, and for PrestaShop 9.

Read the price carefully. The Shopify listing shows Lite at $99, Premium at $449 and Enterprise at $999 a month, with $0.30 per order past 500, and states that billing is in euros. The website shows £99. Get the currency written into your quote. The program runs in English, French, Spanish and German.

Standout features
  • Official PrestaShop module (1.7, 8 and 9)
  • Data hosted in Europe
  • English, French, Spanish and German
+Pros
  • ✓Only official SaaS module for PrestaShop
  • ✓European vendor for GDPR-minded brands
  • ✓5.0 rating on the Shopify App Store
−Cons
  • ✗Currency differs between website and App Store
  • ✗Pricier paid entry than BON or Smile.io
  • ✗Fewer merchant reviews than the leaders
Verdict

The first call for a European brand on PrestaShop. If the module install throws a 404, ask your host to allow the "Loyoly/Prestashop" user agent: that is the vendor's own fix.

10
Best for WooCommerce stores

WPLoyalty

3.6/5

On WooCommerce you do not rent an app by the month, you buy a WordPress plugin by the year. WPLoyalty has a free Lite version, then three paid plans: Starter at $105 a year for one site at list price, Professional for three sites and Agency for ten. As we write, the page shows them discounted ($73 for Starter). Referrals, points expiry and CSV import and export of balances come with all three.

The math is quick: $105 a year is less than one month of Smile.io Growth. The tradeoff is that it is a plugin you maintain alongside your theme and other plugins. There is no per-order billing, so your volume never moves the bill.

Standout features
  • Free Lite version
  • Referrals and expiry on all paid plans
  • CSV import and export of balances
+Pros
  • ✓Flat yearly price, no per-order fees
  • ✓Best value outside Shopify (4.3)
  • ✓Agency plan for 10 sites
−Cons
  • ✗WooCommerce only
  • ✗You maintain it with your theme and plugins
  • ✗Lower support score (3.3)
Verdict

Our pick for WooCommerce stores. If you only want points with no referrals, the official WooCommerce Points and Rewards extension ($179 a year) is the other route.

Cost by volume

What your loyalty program really costs

The top-ranking guides skip this math, so here it is. We took the official grids and four typical Shopify stores. All prices are monthly, in USD, before tax. For Yotpo we used the grid on yotpo.com: 500 orders included in Pro, then $0.20, $0.10 and $0.05 per order by band.

01

500 orders a month, points and referrals

Most common

At this volume you do not need to spend much. Smile.io Essential, Growave Entry and Rivo Essential cost $15 a month. BON Basic and Joy Essential cost $29, and BON includes Shopify POS. LoyaltyLion Classic and Yotpo Pro cost $199 for the same volume (both include 500 orders): only their integrations justify that.

Tip: stay under 400 orders and LoyaltyLion's free plan costs nothing.

Cheapest
$15 (Smile.io, Growave, Rivo)
Priciest
$199 (LoyaltyLion, Yotpo)
02

500 orders a month with VIP tiers

Widest gap

Adding VIP tiers changes everything. Gameball Starter includes them at $34. Rivo Scale costs $49 plus one extra 100 orders at $20, so $69. BON Growth and Joy Advanced sit at $129, Smile.io Growth and Growave Growth at $199. LoyaltyLion sells them as an add-on to Classic ($199 plus the add-on, price not published), Yotpo in Premium, on quote.

Tip: the gap runs from $34 to $199 for the same feature. Decide on tiers before you pick the app, not after.

Range
$34 to $199 a month
03

1,000 orders a month, no VIP

Smile.io Standard covers exactly 1,000 orders for $79. Joy Essential costs $29 plus 5 × $15, so $104. Growave Entry costs $15 plus 5 × $20, so $115. BON moves to Growth at $129, since Basic stops at 500. Rivo Scale costs $49 plus 6 × $20, so $169. Yotpo Pro costs $199 plus 500 orders at $0.20, so $299.

Tip: at this volume, a plan that includes your orders often beats a small plan plus overage.

Cheapest
$79 (Smile.io Standard)
04

3,000 orders a month with VIP tiers

Brand scale

This is where flat prices win. BON Growth stays at $129 thanks to unlimited orders. Joy Advanced costs $129 plus 10 × $10, so $229. Smile.io Growth costs $199 plus 5 × $20, so $299. Growave Growth costs $199 plus 15 × $15, so $424. Rivo Scale hits its $499 cap (Plus stops at 2,500 orders and Enterprise is on quote). For comparison, Yotpo Pro costs $199 plus $100 (500 orders at $0.20) plus $200 (2,000 at $0.10), so $499, but without VIP tiers, which sit in Premium.

Tip: run the numbers on your busiest month, Black Friday or the holidays, not your average.

Cheapest
$129 (BON Growth)
Priciest
$499 (Rivo Scale at its cap)
Beyond Shopify

Not on Shopify? Your real options

Most US guides only cover Shopify apps. WooCommerce merchants get a shorter list and a different pricing model: you usually pay for a plugin by the year instead of a subscription by order count.

01

WooCommerce: two plugins and Yotpo

Yearly price

WPLoyalty (ranked above) has a free version and Starter at $105 a year at list price, with referrals and points expiry. The official WooCommerce Points and Rewards extension costs $179 for one year ($286.40 for two). It handles points for purchases, sign-ups and reviews, with discount caps per cart, category or product, but no referrals and no VIP tiers.

Yotpo also lists WooCommerce among its platforms, with monthly, per-order billing.

Tip: if you want referrals at a yearly price, go with WPLoyalty. Points and Rewards does not do them.

02

Adobe Commerce (Magento): Yotpo or native

Adobe Commerce, the paid edition of Magento, ships its own reward points. For a richer program, Yotpo is the ranked option that supports it, through a generic integration.

Tip: ask Yotpo what its generic integration covers before you sign. A dedicated connector and a generic one do not take the same dev work.

Yotpo
03

BigCommerce: Smile.io and Yotpo

Smile.io runs on Shopify and BigCommerce with the same pricing. Yotpo supports BigCommerce too. Every other ranked app is Shopify only.

04

PrestaShop: Loyoly or a one-time module

Loyoly is the only SaaS app in this ranking with an official PrestaShop module, for versions 1.7, 8 and 9. The other route is a module. Idnovate's Loyalty Program lists at €69.99 before VAT (€55.99 on promotion as we write): points turn into vouchers, with a birthday bonus and an expiry date.

Pitfalls

Six expensive mistakes with an online loyalty program

These six problems keep showing up in low Shopify App Store reviews and merchant threads. Each one has a fix.

01

Getting customers hooked on a VIP tier you cannot leave

Most expensive

Once your best customers hold Gold status, you cannot take it away without upsetting them. If that status only exists on a $199 plan, you are tied to that plan.

The fix: pick an app where VIP is affordable from day one (Gameball at $34, BON or Joy at $129), or hold off on tiers until you are ready to pay.

02

Letting referral fraud eat your margin

A shopper who refers themselves with a second email address collects two discounts. One merchant counted more than 12,000 discount codes created through their app after abuse.

The fix: turn on anti-fraud (BON lists it on the free plan, Growave from Entry), cap referrals per customer, and only pay the reward after the referred friend's order.

03

Coupons that still work after they are used

A Growave merchant found that generated coupons stayed active after redemption. A BON merchant found that points spent at POS were not deducted.

The fix: before launch, redeem one reward online and one in store yourself, then check in Shopify that the code is disabled and the balance debited.

04

Paying for orders that earn you nothing

Apps bill by order count. One Yotpo merchant complains that manual orders and returns count too.

The fix: ask which orders the vendor counts (manual, exchanges, returns, $0 orders) before you pick a plan.

05

Taking a price hike with no way out

LoyaltyLion and Growave merchants describe repeated increases with no grandfathering. Others report being billed after uninstalling, or metafields left behind in the store.

The fix: export your points balances regularly, so a price hike never traps you.

06

Launching a program nobody sees

One merchant on a free app was stuck at 12% enrollment with few redemptions. Other merchants' advice lines up: show points on product pages, in the cart and in the account, and remind members about expiring points.

The fix: avoid distant rewards. "Spend $100, get $5" motivates almost nobody.

Moving points

Switching apps without wiping your customers' points

A customer who sees their balance vanish does not come back. One merchant who moved to Yotpo reports losing 70% of their users. Migration needs planning, and it has a limit few merchants know about: only current points balances move between tools, not the history behind them.

Export before you cancel

Download a CSV with each customer's email and points balance before you cancel the old subscription.

Make sure customers exist in the new store

An import attaches a balance to a customer profile. No profile, no balance. That is the rule Smile.io gives for moving to a new ecommerce platform.

Import a small batch first

Start with about a hundred customers, check their balances one by one, then run the rest. You avoid fixing thousands of rows by hand.

Tell your members

An email that says "your points are waiting in your new rewards account" brings members back. Without it, many assume they lost everything.

  • CSV export of emails and points balances
  • Customer profiles present in the destination store
  • Test import on about a hundred customers
  • VIP tiers rebuilt identically before import
  • Old app uninstalled and metafields cleaned up
  • Email sent to every member on switch day
Outside the ranking

For enterprise retailers: quote-only platforms

These two show up in every enterprise search, but neither publishes a price. They suit retailers with an in-house tech team, not stores that install an app in an afternoon.

01

Open Loyalty: an API-first platform

Quote only

Open Loyalty does not publish a list price because the same platform serves very different programs. A quote combines four parts: onboarding, customer care, an allowance based on active members, and a platform fee. It is no longer open source: it is sold as SaaS.

FAQ · 10 questions

Ecommerce loyalty program FAQ

  • Is there a free loyalty app for an online store?

Yes, and the order cap is what separates them. LoyaltyLion is free up to 400 orders a month, Joy up to 250, Smile.io and Growave up to 200 (no referrals on Growave), Rivo up to 200, BON up to 150. Yotpo has a free plan too, which its App Store listing limits to stores under 100 orders. On WooCommerce, WPLoyalty has a free Lite version. Count orders in your best month before you choose.

  • Points or VIP tiers: which should I launch first?

Start with points. Shoppers get them instantly and every free plan includes them. Add VIP tiers once a real share of customers buys several times a year: status is what brings them back. And pick your app knowing what those tiers will cost you.

  • Should loyalty points expire?

Usually, yes. An unspent point is a discount you promised and may have to honor. A clearly announced expiry limits that liability and gives customers a reason to return. Note that on Smile.io, expiry only comes with Growth at $199. Send a reminder before points lapse: it is the advice merchants repeat most often.

  • Can customers redeem points at checkout instead of using a code?

On some apps. Yotpo Pro lets shoppers redeem points at checkout. Most others turn the reward into a discount code. That works, but codes pile up in your discount list, so give them an expiry date.

  • Can one program cover my website and my retail store?

Yes on Shopify, through Shopify POS. Smile.io includes it on the free plan, BON from Basic at $29, Joy on Advanced at $129. Rivo Scale covers three retail locations. On LoyaltyLion, multi-location POS sits in Advanced, on quote.

  • Do I need a developer to launch a loyalty program?

Not on Shopify: the ranked apps install from the App Store and are configured without code. You need one for a custom storefront (LoyaltyLion's API, Joy Ultimate's API, BON Enterprise's API and SDK) or for a quote-only platform like Open Loyalty. Some BON merchants also report paying extra for theme integration.

  • How do you know if your loyalty program pays off?

Compare two groups over the same period: customers in the program and customers who aren't. Look at repeat purchase rate, time between orders and average order value. Then set the real cost against it: subscription, per-order fees and the discounts paid out in points. If members buy again more often and the discounts don't eat your margin, the program pays. Most ranked apps include a dashboard for points earned and redeemed.

  • Points, tiers, paid club, cashback: what kinds of programs are there?

Points programs are the most common: every order earns points shoppers swap for a discount. VIP tiers give your best customers status and perks. A paid club charges a membership fee for ongoing benefits (Joy offers it on Advanced). Cashback returns a share of each order as store credit (Rivo sells it as an add-on). Referrals reward the customer who brings a friend. Most brands mix points, referrals and tiers.

  • Which app works for a brand that also sells wholesale?

BON Growth ($129) and Joy Advanced ($129) both offer tiers reserved for B2B customers. You can give a reseller and a retail shopper different rewards in the same program, without a second app.

  • Why is Loyoly's price shown in two currencies?

Because its two official pages disagree. The Shopify App Store shows Lite at $99, Premium at $449 and Enterprise at $999, with $0.30 per order past 500, and says billing is in euros. The Loyoly website shows £99. Ask for the currency in writing before you sign.
