What is the best push notification software in 2026?
Eight tools ranked for sending notifications to a website or a mobile app, from free plans to usage-based pricing.
Start with one question: where do your notifications go? Web push leaves from your visitor's browser. Mobile push goes through Apple and Google into your app. If you need both from one dashboard, OneSignal is still the most complete option, with a generous free web push plan. For an app with real traffic, Pushwoosh publishes a clear price per monthly active user. On a tight budget, WonderPush starts at €1 a month and keeps European user data in Europe. For a site only, Webpushr is free under 10,000 subscribers. And if a developer just needs a delivery pipe, Firebase Cloud Messaging costs nothing.
Some links may be affiliate links. The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

The 8 push notification tools compared
Sort by the "Channels" column first. Some tools only send browser notifications, some only work inside apps, a few do both. Prices come from each vendor's official pricing page, in US dollars except WonderPush, which lists euros.

How we compared and ranked these tools
Most lists blur two separate questions. Are you sending to a website, an app, or both? And how many people will you reach a year from now? For every tool, we read the official pricing page and the page that spells out the free plan, then reran the math at 10,000 and 50,000 subscribers. We also went through user reviews on the WordPress plugin directory and the Shopify App Store, where setup bugs and browser complaints tend to show up first.
A word on the search results. Most of the top lists for this query come from sites in the same company group as PushEngage, and they rank it first. WPBeginner says so itself: it has owned PushEngage since 2020. We rank PushEngage for what it does well on WordPress, and no higher. Quote-only platforms (Batch, Braze, Airship) sit in their own section, since we can't tell you what they cost. Klaviyo is not ranked: its pricing page doesn't put a number on push.
- Cost at your volumeWhat you pay at 10,000 and 50,000 subscribers or active users, not the entry price.Heaviest

Some links may be affiliate links. The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
OneSignal
OneSignal covers more channels than anything else here: web push, mobile push, email, SMS and in-app messages, all in one interface. Its free plan is still the most useful one for a website. There's no total subscriber cap listed for web push, only a maximum of 10,000 subscribers per send. You also get 10,000 emails a month, 3 active journeys, and 6 segments. Message event history (30 days) starts on Growth.
Here's what changed. OneSignal recently cut mobile push from the free plan for bigger apps: mobile push and in-app messages now require fewer than 1,000 monthly active users (MAU). Web push, email and SMS keep the same limits as before. Plenty of roundups still promise free, unlimited mobile push. That's over. Past the threshold, Growth bills $0.012 per mobile MAU and $0.004 per web subscriber, starting at $19 a month.
- No total subscriber cap on free web push
- Five channels in one dashboard
- Published usage pricing on Growth
- ✓Most useful free plan for a website
- ✓Broad integrations
- ✓Deepest feature set in the ranking
- ✗Free mobile push stops past 1,000 MAU
- ✗Professional and Enterprise are quote-only, billed yearly
- ✗Recent WordPress plugin reviews report setup bugs
The best starting point for most websites, and for an app that wants everything in one place. If your app already has more than 1,000 active users, run the numbers: at 10,000 MAU, mobile push comes to about $139 a month on Growth ($19 platform fee plus $120 of usage). Above 50,000 MAU, OneSignal sends you to sales.
Pushwoosh
Pushwoosh grew up on mobile push, and its pricing shows it: everything is counted in monthly active users. Under 1,000 MAU, a project is free, with unlimited push and in-app messages plus 20,000 emails a month. Above that, you pick between Push only at $7 per 1,000 MAU and Omnichannel at $13, which adds email, SMS and messaging apps.
Push only is sold as a limited offer, and whoever signs up keeps that price for 24 months. It's the cheapest of the tools billed per MAU: at 10,000 MAU you pay $70 a month, versus about $139 at OneSignal Growth ($19 platform fee plus $120 of usage) for the same mobile push volume. Once your bill passes $3,000 a month, Pushwoosh moves you to a Custom contract.
- Public price per 1,000 MAU
- Unlimited push and in-app under 1,000 MAU
- Push only at $7 per 1,000 MAU
- ✓Cheapest of the per-MAU tools at 10,000 MAU
- ✓Readable pricing, no sales call up to $3,000/mo
- ✓Web push included alongside mobile
- ✗Push only price is a limited offer
- ✗Everything counts in MAU, even a website
- ✗Ask for the data processing agreement to see where data is stored
Our pick for a mobile app past 1,000 active users that wants to know what it'll pay. If push is all you need, grab Push only while it's offered: the price stays locked for two years.
WonderPush
WonderPush has the simplest pricing in this ranking: €1 a month per 1,000 subscribers. At 10,000 subscribers that's €10 a month. At 50,000, it's €50. It handles web push, iOS and Android, and the vendor states that European user data is stored in Europe. There's no permanent free plan, but you get a 14-day trial with no card.
WonderPush has been part of Brevo since 2023. At the time, it said it would keep running as an independent app and that customers wouldn't need a Brevo account. If you already use Brevo for email, treat them as two separate tools.
- €1 per 1,000 subscribers
- European user data stored in Europe
- Web push, iOS and Android
- ✓Best value in the ranking
- ✓Predictable pricing with no tiers to jump
- ✓Easy to set up
- ✗No permanent free plan
- ✗Push only: no email or SMS
- ✗Fewer integrations than OneSignal
The best value if push is all you need, on your site and in your app. If you want email in the same tool, OneSignal or Customer.io go further.
Webpushr
Webpushr does web push only, and it's free as long as your total subscriber count stays under 10,000. That's the easiest cap to read in this ranking: one number, your total list. After that, Individual costs $29 a month up to 50,000 subscribers, Startup $49 up to 100,000 and Growth $99 up to 150,000.
The WordPress plugin rates well, 4.7 out of 5 across 63 reviews. Still, one recent review complains that notifications don't work on every browser or on phones. Before you launch, check delivery on the browsers your visitors use most.
- Free up to 10,000 total subscribers
- $29 a month up to 50,000 subscribers
- WordPress plugin rated 4.7 out of 5
- ✓Clearest free plan for web push
- ✓Low paid tiers (4.5 on value)
- ✓Simple WordPress setup
- ✗Mostly web push (mobile in beta), no mobile app
- ✗Free plan ends right at 10,000 subscribers
- ✗Thinner feature set than OneSignal
Our pick for a site getting started with web push. Once you pass 10,000 subscribers, compare it with OneSignal's free plan, which has no total cap on web push.
Customer.io
Customer.io isn't a push tool in the strict sense. It's a marketing automation platform. But mobile and web push are unlimited on every plan, and web push is free on every plan. You pay per profile: $100 a month for 5,000, $145 for 10,000, and $505 for 50,000.
The draw is the journeys. A notification fires when a user does (or doesn't do) something in your app, then an email follows up. We carry over the 3.9 score Customer.io gets in our marketing automation ranking.
- Unlimited web and mobile push on every plan
- Journeys that mix push, email and SMS
- Priced per profile, not per send
- ✓Highly rated ease of use
- ✓Unlimited push sends
- ✓Journeys triggered by app data
- ✗Starts at $100 a month
- ✗Weak value for push alone
- ✗Premium from $1,000 a month, billed yearly
The right call if push is one channel among several in your journeys. For push alone, WonderPush or Pushwoosh cost far less at the same volume.
PushEngage
PushEngage tops nearly every list Google shows for this search. Those lists come from sites in the same group that owns it. That doesn't make it a bad tool: it targets WordPress and WooCommerce first, and its paid plans cover several sites from Premium up.
Its free plan is the tightest here: 1 site, 200 subscribers and 30 campaigns in total, web and mobile combined. Business goes up to 50,000 subscribers and bills only active subscribers: $8 a month is a starting price, and the vendor's calculator gives yours for your volume. The headline price only applies to year one on an annual plan. At renewal it's $14 a month, or $19 if you pay monthly. Premium covers 100,000 subscribers on 2 sites, Growth 250,000 on 3.
- Built for WordPress and WooCommerce
- Business up to 50,000 subscribers
- Multiple sites on Premium and Growth
- ✓Easy WordPress setup
- ✓Business bills active subscribers only
- ✓Decent support
- ✗Free plan capped at 200 subscribers and 30 campaigns
- ✗Headline price only lasts year one
- ✗The lists ranking it first come from its own group
A fine choice for a WordPress site that wants something simple, as long as you budget for the renewal price, not the headline one. To start free, Webpushr gives you fifty times more subscribers.
Firebase Cloud Messaging
Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), Google's service, is free: Firebase's pricing page lists it among its no-cost products. It's the delivery layer that many tools in this ranking rely on to reach Android phones. Developer forums tend to sum it up the same way: FCM moves the messages, OneSignal is a platform built on top.
The trade-off is that everything happens in your code. There's no marketing interface to segment subscribers, schedule a campaign or follow a journey. Without a developer on the team, it's the wrong tool.
- Free, no listed cap
- Used as the delivery layer by other tools
- Connected to the rest of Firebase
- ✓The only fully free tool here (5.0 on value)
- ✓Solid Google integrations
- ✓No bill that grows with volume
- ✗Everything goes through code (2.8 on ease of use)
- ✗No ready-made marketing segmentation
- ✗No interface to schedule a campaign
The right choice if your team has a developer and wants full control. If someone in marketing sends the campaigns, pick a tool with an interface, starting with OneSignal.
Notix
Notix has the biggest free plan in this ranking by subscriber count: up to 30,000, with unlimited sends. Past that, Basic costs $1 per 1,000 subscribers with a $30 minimum, up to 150,000. Notix also offers mobile and in-app notifications, still in beta.
Its model leans toward monetization: a Monetization plan at $0 exists for sites that want to earn money from their subscribers. That's a publisher use case, not an ecommerce one. For a store, the tools higher in this ranking do more to bring a customer back.
- Free up to 30,000 subscribers
- Unlimited sends on the free plan
- Monetization plan at $0
- ✓Largest free plan by subscribers
- ✓Low pricing beyond it
- ✓Quick to add to a site
- ✗Mostly web push (mobile in beta)
- ✗Limited features for a store
- ✗Fewer integrations
A good pick for a content site that wants lots of subscribers for free. For a store or an app, look at OneSignal or WonderPush instead.
Web push and mobile push are not the same job
The top-ranked lists lump everything together. But a web subscriber and an app user aren't counted the same way, don't cost the same, and some tools only handle one of them.
Three setups
You run a website or online store
Web pushWeb push goes through your visitor's browser. They accept the permission prompt, then get your notifications even when your site is closed. No app to publish. Tools bill per subscriber here. Webpushr only does this, Notix mostly. OneSignal and WonderPush do it alongside mobile.
Tip: look at the total subscriber cap on each free plan, not just the price. It ranges from 200 at PushEngage to 30,000 at Notix.
- Billing unit
- Subscriber
- Best free plans
- Notix (30,000), Webpushr (10,000)
You have an iOS or Android app
Mobile pushMobile push goes through Apple and Google and needs an SDK (a software development kit) inside your app. Tools bill per monthly active user (MAU): someone who opened your app that month. Pushwoosh, OneSignal and Customer.io are built for this, and so is FCM if you have a developer.
Tip: count MAU, not downloads. That's the number on your bill, and 1,000 MAU is where the free plan ends at both OneSignal and Pushwoosh.

- MAU
- Free threshold
- 1,000 MAU (OneSignal, Pushwoosh)
You have both and want one tool
One dashboardOneSignal, Pushwoosh, WonderPush and Customer.io cover site and app. The difference is on the invoice: OneSignal charges web subscribers ($0.004) and mobile users ($0.012) separately, while WonderPush bills every subscriber at the same rate.
Tip: stick to one tool so someone with both your site and your app doesn't get the same notification twice.

- WonderPush
What will push notifications actually cost you?
None of the top-ranked lists runs these numbers. We took the official pricing pages and four typical volumes. Prices are monthly, before tax, in US dollars except WonderPush, which bills in euros.
Four volumes
A website with 10,000 subscribers
Most commonAt this size you can still pay nothing. OneSignal's free plan sends to up to 10,000 subscribers per send, and Notix is free up to 30,000. WonderPush costs €10. Webpushr moves you to Individual at $29, since its free plan is for sites under 10,000 subscribers. PushEngage needs Business, since its free plan stops at 200 subscribers.
Tip: if you're close to 10,000 on Webpushr, prune inactive subscribers before you upgrade.
- Free
- OneSignal, Notix, FCM
- Cheapest paid
- €10 (WonderPush)
A website with 50,000 subscribers
Established siteWebpushr Individual covers exactly this volume for $29. WonderPush costs €50. On OneSignal, the free plan caps each send at 10,000 subscribers. To reach everyone at once, Growth bills $0.004 per web subscriber, which is $200 of usage plus the $19 platform fee: $219 a month. Notix moves to Basic at $1 per 1,000 subscribers ($30 minimum), so about $50. At PushEngage, 50,000 is the Business ceiling, priced through its calculator. Customer.io costs $505 at this profile count.
Tip: at 50,000 web subscribers, the gap runs from $29 to more than $500 for the same notification.
- Cheapest
- $29 (Webpushr)
- OneSignal Growth
- $219 ($19 + $200 usage)
An app with 10,000 active users
Growing appThe free plans at OneSignal and Pushwoosh no longer cover mobile push past 1,000 MAU. Pushwoosh Push only costs $70 ($7 per 1,000), Omnichannel $130. OneSignal Growth charges $0.012 per mobile MAU, so $120 of usage plus the $19 platform fee: $139. Customer.io Essentials costs $145 for 10,000 profiles, email included. WonderPush, which counts subscribers, stays at €10. FCM is free.
Tip: if push is all you need, Pushwoosh Push only or WonderPush cut the bill by half or more.
- Pushwoosh Push only
- $70
- OneSignal Growth
- $139 ($19 + $120 usage)
An app with 50,000 active users
Widest gapPushwoosh Push only rises to $350, Omnichannel to $650. OneSignal Growth reaches $619 ($19 plus $600 of usage), and above 50,000 MAU OneSignal sends you to sales. Customer.io costs $505 for 50,000 profiles. FCM stays free. WonderPush stays at €50 for 50,000 subscribers. At this size, quote-based plans (Professional at OneSignal, Custom at Pushwoosh above $3,000) become worth negotiating.
Tip: ask for an annual quote once your monthly bill passes a few hundred dollars.

- $0 (FCM) to $650 a month
Where your subscribers' data lives, and how you get consent
A push subscriber is a device ID tied to what someone does on your site or app. If you have European users, where the vendor stores that data matters under GDPR. Here's what each vendor says in its own words.
WonderPush keeps EU data in the EU
The vendor says it on its pricing page: European user data is stored in Europe. It's the clearest answer in this ranking, at the lowest price.
Batch says it processes 100% in Europe
Batch says its whole stack was designed to be GDPR compliant and not subject to the US Cloud Act. Its pricing isn't public, so it's covered below, outside the ranking.
OneSignal: certified, but ask
OneSignal is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and its SDK can hold off on collecting data until a user consents. Ask where your data will be stored before you sign.
Pushwoosh: ask for the DPA
Before you sign, ask Pushwoosh for its data processing agreement (DPA) and its subprocessor list. That's where storage location is spelled out in writing.
The browser prompt isn't marketing consent
Under GDPR, clicking "Allow" in the browser doesn't by itself count as agreement to receive marketing. Say what you'll send before showing the prompt, and keep a record of consent.
Show your own prompt first
A "Block" in the browser prompt is hard to undo: the visitor has to dig into their settings. Show your own message first, then trigger the official prompt only for people who said yes.
- Storage country written into the contract
- Vendor subprocessor list
- Consent collected before tracking
- Soft prompt before the browser prompt
- Unsubscribe path in every journey
- Inactive subscribers pruned every quarter

These names come up often. They aren't ranked because they don't publish prices, or because they target one narrow use case.

Push notification software FAQ
Is there free push notification software?
Yes, several, with very different limits. For web push, Notix is free up to 30,000 subscribers, Webpushr under 10,000, Gravitec up to 10,000, and PushEngage only up to 200. OneSignal's free plan has no total web push cap but limits each send to 10,000 subscribers. For apps, FCM is free, and OneSignal and Pushwoosh stay free under 1,000 monthly active users.
Is OneSignal still free?
For websites, yes. For apps, mostly no. OneSignal recently limited free mobile push and in-app messages to organizations with fewer than 1,000 monthly active users. Web push, email and SMS keep their previous limits. Past 1,000 MAU, Growth charges $0.012 per mobile active user.
What's the difference between web push and mobile push?
Web push comes from the browser after a visitor accepts a permission prompt, with nothing to install. Mobile push runs through an iOS or Android app and an SDK. Web push is billed per subscriber, mobile push per monthly active user. Webpushr only does web, Notix mostly (its mobile push is in beta). FCM and Pushwoosh are built with mobile in mind.
How much does push notification software cost for 10,000 subscribers?
Between $0 and $29 a month for a website. OneSignal and Notix stay free at that size, WonderPush costs €10 and Webpushr $29 (its free plan ends just under 10,000). For an app with 10,000 active users, expect $70 at Pushwoosh Push only, about $139 at OneSignal Growth ($19 platform fee plus $120 of usage), and $145 at Customer.io with email included.
Do I need GDPR consent to send push notifications?
If you have users in the EU, yes. The browser prompt gives technical permission, but on its own it doesn't count as agreement to receive marketing. Explain what you'll send before showing it, keep a record of consent, and pick a tool that can wait for consent before collecting data, like OneSignal's SDK.
Firebase or OneSignal: which should I use?
Firebase Cloud Messaging if you have a developer and just need to deliver messages for free. OneSignal if someone in marketing needs to segment, schedule and track campaigns without writing code. OneSignal relies on FCM to reach Android phones anyway: they're two layers, not two rivals.
Which push tool stores data in the EU?
WonderPush says European user data is stored in Europe, from €1 a month. Batch says it processes 100% in Europe and isn't subject to the US Cloud Act, but it's quote-only. For anyone else, ask for the storage country and subprocessor list in the data processing agreement before you sign.
Why does PushEngage rank first on so many lists?
Because most of those lists are published by sites in the same group as PushEngage. WPBeginner, part of that group, says it has owned PushEngage since 2020. The tool is still a solid pick for a WordPress site, but its free plan stops at 200 subscribers and its headline price only applies to year one.
