Which product research tool should you pay for in 2026?
Six tools reviewed and sorted by sales channel, with the price of the plan that unlocks what you actually need.
Short answer: for a Shopify or TikTok Shop store that lives on paid social, Dropship.io is the cheapest way to see estimated sales ($39/mo, $26 billed yearly), and Minea is the deepest ad spy for Meta, TikTok and Pinterest, billed in euros from €49/mo. Only if you sell on Amazon, go with Helium 10 (a free plan to start, Platinum at $129/mo) or Jungle Scout (from $49/mo, $29 billed yearly, with a 7-day money-back window).
This page covers the research tool alone: the one that tells you what to sell. If you need the platform to build the store, import listings and route orders, our dropshipping tools for beginners ranking is the better read. Here we answer one question: which subscription saves you hours without selling you a fantasy?
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

The 6 product research tools side by side
Two Amazon-only tools (Helium 10 and Jungle Scout), two pure research tools for Shopify stores, and two dropshipping platforms that bolt research onto their main product. Rank follows score; the "best for" column tells you which one to open first for your channel.

How we compared and rated
A product research tool won't sell anything for you. At its best, it takes you from a thousand ideas to ten serious leads in an evening. So we judged each tool on what it shows you (estimated sales, live ads, Amazon rank history), on the price of the plan where that data is actually unlocked, and on how it bills you.
We read the official pricing pages and the limits of every plan, then several hundred user reviews and merchant discussions. That last part weighs heavily: the most common complaints aren't about data quality, they're about trials that quietly turn into subscriptions and cancel buttons nobody can find. Scores for Helium 10, Jungle Scout, Minea, AutoDS and Sell The Trend match the ones already published elsewhere in our Labs: one tool, one score, everywhere.
- Data reliabilityEstimated sales, live ads, history: what the tool really sees, and how accurate merchants find it.30%

Helium 10
Helium 10 isn't a dropshipping tool, and that's exactly why it ranks first. On Amazon, a bad pick costs you a container of stock, not a $50 ad test. The tool estimates a listing's monthly sales, a niche's revenue and how hard it will be to break in, all built on product rank history.
The Free plan is mostly the Chrome extension, but that's enough to check whether a product you spotted actually moves. Platinum unlocks full research at $129 a month. The catch sits elsewhere: the bill climbs fast once you add the advertising modules, and the menu of tools takes a few weeks to learn properly.
- Estimated sales and revenue per Amazon listing
- Niche and buyer keyword research
- Free plan to vet a product before paying
- Several Amazon marketplaces covered
- ✓Among the deepest Amazon sales data available
- ✓Permanent free plan, no card needed
- ✓About 23% off when billed yearly
- ✗Useless for a Shopify or TikTok Shop store
- ✗Big menu, steep first weeks
- ✗Add-ons push the bill up quickly
If you sell on Amazon, this is the most complete tool on the page. Run three or four products through the Free plan first, and only upgrade to Platinum when you're preparing your first inventory order.
Jungle Scout
Jungle Scout does the same core job as Helium 10: estimate what an Amazon listing sells and surface niches with weak competition. It does it with fewer modules and a cleaner layout, which matters when you're hunting for your first product and don't yet know which numbers to watch.
It's also the only tool in this ranking that states a refund policy plainly: 7 days on the dollar plans, requested by email, promotions excluded. There's no free trial. Product tracking caps at 200 listings, which is plenty for getting started. Extra seats cost $49 a month.
- $29/mo billed yearly on Starter
- Amazon product database filterable by sales and price
- Clear money-back window
- Extra user at $49/mo
- ✓The easiest data to read for a first Amazon product
- ✓Only clearly stated refund on this page
- ✓Big yearly discount
- ✗No free plan, no trial
- ✗Amazon only
- ✗Less advertising depth than Helium 10
The safe pick for a first Amazon product. Start monthly, use the refund window to confirm it suits you, then switch to yearly billing if you stick with it.
Dropship.io
Dropship.io starts from stores, not ads. It tracks Shopify stores and estimates their sales per product, which answers the question that matters: does this product sell, or does it just have a nice video? It also tracks TikTok Shop stores and products, 10 stores and 25 products on Basic.
Basic comes with 10,000 product library credits and 20 competitor searches a day. Credits reset every billing cycle, so anything unused is gone. Another detail that stops some buyers: PayPal isn't accepted. The review base is still thin, which is why the score stays cautious despite a very low price.
- Estimated sales per product and per Shopify store
- TikTok Shop store and product tracking
- Basic drops to $26 from $39 billed yearly
- Shopify imports: 100 to 500 products a month by plan
- ✓Lowest entry price among the Shopify tools here
- ✓Answers "does it sell?" instead of "does it get views?"
- ✓Free trial before you pay
- ✗No PayPal, card only
- ✗Credits reset every month
- ✗20 competitor searches a day on Basic
Our first pick for a Shopify store on a budget. Do your heavy research during the trial, note the end date, and only go yearly after one paid month.
Minea
Minea watches ads: the ones running on Meta, TikTok and Pinterest, linked to the store behind them. Of the six tools here, it's the most useful for understanding how a competitor sells, not just what they sell. It's a French company and bills in euros, so expect a currency conversion fee on a US card.
The limits show up on Starter: 10 AI ad analyses and 10 AI transcriptions a month. Unhappy users describe keyword searches that return off-topic products, a bill that climbs fast once you need the next tier, and a refund process they found hard to complete. No trial is listed and the pricing page says nothing about refunds.
- Meta, TikTok and Pinterest ads in one tool
- Store behind each ad
- About 20% off when paying quarterly
- Free .store domain on sign-up
- ✓Best on this page for seeing live ads and their stores
- ✓Shows how competitors sell, not just what
- ✓One search covers three ad networks
- ✗Starter capped at 10 AI analyses a month
- ✗No trial listed, refund unclear
- ✗Billed in euros, FX fee on US cards
The right tool if your strategy runs on Meta or TikTok ads. Pay the first month monthly, not quarterly: with no stated refund policy, don't lock in three months before you've seen the quotas in action.
AutoDS
AutoDS is an automation tool first: listing imports, supplier price monitoring, order placement. Product research exists, but as a paid add-on, the Product finding hub at $14.97 a month on top of the plan. It shows stores selling the same product, audiences and TikTok ads.
So budget at least $41.87 a month for research on the smallest plan, before auto-ordering. User reviews don't target the research module; they target billing: unexpected double charges, slow chat support, and tickets closed by a bot before a refund came through. The 3-day trial costs about $1.
- One-click import from research
- Competing stores selling the same product
- TikTok ad spy inside the add-on
- 25% off billed yearly
- ✓No second tool if your store already runs on AutoDS
- ✓Short but almost free trial
- ✓From found product to imported listing without copy-paste
- ✗Research costs $14.97/mo extra
- ✗Recurring billing complaints
- ✗Shallower than a dedicated research tool
Makes sense only if AutoDS already runs your store. Starting from zero, Dropship.io Basic at $39 costs less than the smallest AutoDS plan plus the add-on ($41.87), and does the research better.
Sell The Trend
Sell The Trend mixes research with store tools: product databases, store spy, a Chrome extension, Shopify import. Essential gives you one hand-picked product a day, 100 tracked products and 500 imports. It does not include the TikTok tools, neither the TikTok ad finder nor the TikTok Shop product finder: you need Pro at $99.97 a month.
Overall reviews are very positive, but the recurring complaint is the same: canceling after the 14-day trial is hard, and the trial bills automatically. Some merchants also question how accurate certain sales figures are. The struck-through prices next to each plan aren't a deal to grab; they're the vendor's reference prices.
- Research, import and store on one subscription
- Chrome extension and store spy from Essential
- One hand-picked product per day
- PayPal accepted
- ✓A single tool for a beginner
- ✓14 days free before paying
- ✓About 34% off billed yearly
- ✗TikTok only from Pro, $99.97/mo
- ✗Card required for the trial, auto-billing
- ✗Some sales figures disputed
Handy to start with a single tool, as long as you sell through Meta. If TikTok is your channel, the real price is Pro. Set a reminder for the day before the trial ends.
Which tool for your channel and budget
Before comparing features, answer two questions: where will you sell, and how much can you spend on tools each month without eating into your ad budget? A $99 tool that swallows half your testing money will cost you more than it earns.
You sell on Amazon
Shopify store, Meta ads
You sell on TikTok Shop
Zero budget
You already have a store tool
You want the lowest monthly bill
- Is your sales channel covered on the plan you're about to buy?
- Does the trial need a card, and on what exact day does it end?
- Is a refund policy written on the pricing page, or nowhere?
- How many analyses, credits or daily searches does the entry plan include?
- Do unused credits vanish at the end of the month?
- Is it billed in dollars or euros, and what will your card charge for conversion?
Six tips to avoid paying for nothing
What we picked up from reading the pricing pages and merchant complaints side by side. You won't find any of this on a sales page.
The tips
Start with the free tools
BudgetSpend a week in the Meta Ad Library, TikTok Creative Center and Google Trends before paying for anything. The Meta library shows every active ad from a page, no account needed, with an impressions range. If you can't pull ten ideas out of those, a paid tool won't rescue you.
- Cost
- $0
- Limit
- No sales figures
Write down the trial end, cancel the day before
BillingSell The Trend asks for a card for its 14 free days and bills automatically when they end. AutoDS charges about $1 for 3 days, then rolls into the plan. The most frequent complaints about these tools are charges after a trial. Set a reminder for the day before, and screenshot the cancellation confirmation.
- Where
- Sell The Trend, AutoDS, Dropship.io
- Fix
- Reminder the day before, screenshot
Pay monthly for the first month
PriceThe discounts are real: €49 drops to €39 quarterly on Minea, $39 drops to $26 yearly on Dropship.io. But neither pricing page shows a refund policy. A quarter bought too early means three months paid for a tool you might drop after two weeks.
- Minea discount
- About 20% quarterly
- Dropship.io discount
- A third off Basic yearly
Read the entry plan quotas
LimitMinea Starter: 10 AI analyses a month. Dropship.io Basic: 20 competitor searches a day. Sell The Trend Essential: no TikTok tools at all. The headline price usually belongs to a plan where the feature that brought you there is missing or rationed. Compare the price of the tier where it's open.
- Habit
- Look for "per month" or "per day"
- Result
- Real price is often the next tier
A tool gives you a shortlist, not a verdict
MethodMerchants who make it use the tool to get down to ten products, then check the rest themselves: supplier stock, shipping time, margin after ad cost. Work out margin with a realistic cost per purchase, not the raw sale price. Then test with a small budget, $100 to $200 of ads per product.
- Test budget
- $100 to $200 per product
- Check
- Stock, shipping, margin after ads
Spot a saturated product in five minutes
MethodSearch the product name in the Meta Ad Library: if dozens of stores have run the same video for months, you're late. In Dropship.io or Minea, check the date of the first ad and the number of stores. A rising product has few sellers and recent ads; a saturated one has copies everywhere and falling prices.
- Signal
- Same video across many stores
- Free tool
- Meta Ad Library

Winning product research · FAQ
What is the best free product research tool?
The Meta Ad Library, for Shopify sellers, and Helium 10's Free plan, for Amazon sellers. The Meta library shows every live ad from a page without an account. Add TikTok Creative Center and Google Trends and you have a full free stack, minus sales estimates.Minea or Sell The Trend: which one?
Minea if you want to study ads, Sell The Trend if you want research and store tools together. Minea shows live ads on Meta, TikTok and Pinterest from €49 a month. Sell The Trend starts at $49.97 but keeps its TikTok tools for Pro, at $99.97.What is the best product research tool for TikTok Shop?
Dropship.io for a paid tool with a public price: it tracks TikTok Shop stores and products from its $39 Basic plan. Kalodata and FastMoss go deeper on TikTok Shop creators and videos, but their prices sit behind a login, and some Kalodata users report no cancel button on the site.Which tool should I use to find products for Amazon?
Helium 10 or Jungle Scout. Dropshipping research tools can't see Amazon sales. Helium 10 has a free plan to vet a product; Jungle Scout starts at $49 a month, $29 billed yearly, with a 7-day refund window. Is a spy tool worth paying for?
Yes, once you're spending on ads every month. Before that, the free libraries cover most of what you need. A $39 to $49 tool pays for itself the first time it stops you from running a $200 test on a product that's already everywhere. Are the sales figures accurate?
They're estimates, not reports. Amazon tools infer sales from product rank, which gives a solid order of magnitude. Shopify tools estimate from public signals, and some merchants dispute specific numbers. Use them to compare two products, not to forecast your revenue. How do I cancel a trial without getting charged?
Cancel the day before it ends, from your account, and keep a screenshot of the confirmation. If there's no button, email support so you have a dated record. As a last resort, your bank can block future charges from that merchant.Do winning products really exist?
Not in the sense of a product that sells itself. A product works for a given store, ad and price. Tools shorten the search; real margin and the ad test decide. Plenty of merchants test five to ten products before keeping one.
