GLPI alternatives: where to go, and how to move your data
Seven options, one per reason for leaving, and a seven-step migration plan.
Short answer: if GLPI works but self-hosting wears you down, keep GLPI and move to GLPI Network Cloud (€19 per agent per month, free migration by the vendor). If you want a different tool, Freshservice needs the least setup, ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus lets you stay self-hosted, HaloITSM puts every module in one price, and Snipe-IT plus Zammad is enough if you do not need ITIL. One thing to know first: none of these tools imports GLPI in one click. Assets move by CSV, tickets by a third-party tool or an API. We compared all seven and checked their pricing in 2026.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always flagged on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
Why teams leave GLPI, and why it's usually the server
GLPI still reviews well, around 4.6 out of 5 on G2. People rarely leave over features. They leave over upkeep: patches, upgrades, plugins and a server someone has to babysit. Six reasons come up again and again.
A security release every two weeks or so
Teclib says it plainly: expect security releases about every two weeks. Versions 11.0.10 and 11.0.11 fixed 8 vulnerabilities between them, 6 rated important and 5 tied to authorization checks. Self-hosted, every one of those is your ticket.
Upgrades that break plugins
11.0.10 broke plugin loading for some installs and was replaced by 11.0.11. During the GLPI 11 upgrade, migrated forms lost their conditional display rules, and some stopped creating tickets at all. That pattern of "upgrades break plugins" shows up in almost every GLPI thread.
A version treadmill
GLPI 12 is already the new major version on the vendor's site. An instance still on GLPI 10 is two majors behind, and every jump means checking PHP, the database and each plugin.
Docs and setup take time
Users describe "some confusing documentation" and say "setting up the ticketing system could be complicated". The same users add that the latest version "has improved a lot on user experience", so it is not all bad news.
Old data piles up
Large instances end up with huge log tables. One upgrade thread on the GLPI forum stalled on a log table that had grown too big and an index key over the length limit. Somebody has to plan that cleanup.
Support means a contract or the forums
Without a contract you rely on the community. Teclib's self-hosted support starts at €100 a month (Basic, up to 10 agents and 500 assets) and €300 for Standard (50 agents, 5,000 assets), then €1,000 and €4,500 a month.
You're leaving because… go to…
The right GLPI alternative depends on what is pushing you out. Usually one row fits. Each card jumps to the full write-up.

GLPI alternatives, tool by tool
For each option: why move to it, who it fits, the catch, how to bring your GLPI data over, and what it costs. Prices are the ones vendors list in 2026, in the currency they show. Scores come from our ITSM and IT asset management rankings; InvGate is not in them yet, so it has no score and comes last.
The tools
GLPI Network Cloud: stay on GLPI, drop the server
The low-risk exitWhy switch to it. Plenty of teams searching for GLPI alternatives are not unhappy with GLPI. They are unhappy with running it: security releases roughly every two weeks, upgrades that break a plugin, a database that keeps growing. GLPI Network Cloud is the same software, hosted and patched by Teclib, the company behind GLPI. Your tickets, inventory and workflows stay as they are. Only the ops work goes away.
Who it's for. Small IT teams, schools and MSP-style shops that have run GLPI for years and whose technicians already know it. If your team is fluent in GLPI, changing hosting costs far less than changing tools.
Who it's not for. Anyone leaving because of the GLPI interface itself: the cloud version looks the same. Also anyone who relies on third-party plugins or custom code, since those are not carried over.
The catch. You lose access to the code, so no more PHP tweaks to customize screens. Third-party plugins and custom development stay behind. Very old instances (before 0.72.4) are not supported, and anything before 0.85 may lose some data.
How to migrate. Teclib's team does it for free. You send a database dump plus the files folder (attachments). The cutover is booked at least 72 hours after your request, on a weekday, and usually takes one to two hours. Freeze your instance during the copy, or tickets created in that window are lost.
Pricing. Public Cloud is €19 per agent per month excluding VAT, from one agent, with a 45-day trial and no card. Private Cloud is €21 per agent, 25 agents minimum. No minimum term. Tickets, problems, changes, native inventory, finance, projects and knowledge base are all included. Data sits with OVHcloud in France.

Freshservice: the least setup, nothing to host
Least setupWhy switch to it. Freshservice covers most of what GLPI does in one SaaS tool: tickets, automatic discovery through an agent and a probe, and problem and change management on the Pro plan. There is no server, no patch Tuesday, no PHP version to chase.
Who it's for. IT teams of roughly 5 to 50 agents that want a modern UI and are fine paying per agent. Teams that follow ITIL (the standard playbook for IT service management) without wanting a six-month rollout.
Who it's not for. Anyone who must self-host: Freshservice is cloud only. And tight budgets that need change management, because that means the Pro tier.
The catch. Problem and change management start at Pro, $99 per agent per month billed annually. Assets are sold in packs of 500 units with no public price, so ask before you sign if your fleet is large.
How to migrate. Assets come in by CSV, one asset type per import. Tickets and history need a third-party tool such as Help Desk Migration, which moves tickets, problems, changes and knowledge base articles from GLPI, but not assets.
Pricing. Starter $19, Growth $49, Pro $99 per agent per month, billed annually. Enterprise is quote-based. 14-day free trial.

ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus: new tool, same server
Self-hosted optionWhy switch to it. It is the one option here that bundles inventory, ticketing and ITIL processes and still installs on your own hardware. If leadership wants data on-prem but GLPI has run its course, start here.
Who it's for. Teams that want a different tool without a different hosting model. Very small teams too: the free edition covers up to 5 technicians on one instance.
Who it's not for. Teams running away from server maintenance. On-prem, upgrades are still your job.
The catch. Add-on pricing. On-prem Professional charges $1,195 a year for problem management, $2,395 for change management and $1,195 for the CMDB (the map of how your assets and services depend on each other). Enterprise includes them. Price the full stack before comparing with GLPI.
How to migrate. ManageEngine publishes no GLPI import path. Use GLPI's CSV exports for assets and a third-party tool for tickets: Help Desk Migration lists ServiceDesk Plus as a GLPI destination.
Pricing. Standard from $13, Professional $27, Enterprise $67 per technician per month. Cloud, billed annually: Standard from $1,545 for 10 technicians, Professional from $645 for 2 technicians and 250 assets, Enterprise from $1,595. Free up to 5 technicians, 30-day trial.

- from $13/tech/month

HaloITSM: one price, every module
All-inclusiveWhy switch to it. HaloITSM charges one per-agent price that covers every module. No tier jump to unlock change management, no CMDB add-on. If you are tired of reading option sheets, that alone is a relief.
Who it's for. Mid-size companies with a structured IT department that want the full ITIL catalog and guided onboarding.
Who it's not for. Small teams on a tight budget. The entry price is among the highest on this page, and onboarding is extra.
The catch. An onboarding package is required with purchase, priced on your scope. Year-one cost is higher than the sticker price.
How to migrate. No published GLPI importer. Use the mandatory onboarding to scope ticket and asset migration, and get it written into the quote.
Pricing. £66 per agent per month, billed annually, all modules included, plus onboarding.

Snipe-IT plus Zammad: split GLPI into two open-source tools
Open-source pairWhy switch to them. GLPI does two jobs: asset tracking and the help desk. Snipe-IT does only the first, Zammad only the second, and both feel more modern. Both are open source and free to self-host. This is the split you see recommended most often for small teams: Snipe-IT for asset tracking, a separate ticketing tool for support.
Who it's for. Teams that find GLPI heavy and do not need change management. A school, a small agency, a nonprofit with a few hundred devices.
Who it's not for. Anyone who wants one tool or follows ITIL. Neither handles problems or changes, and they do not talk to each other without an integration.
The catch. Snipe-IT has no ticketing and no automatic discovery: it is a register you keep by hand. Zammad has no assets and no CMDB. One tool becomes two, with two upgrade cycles.
How to migrate. Assets are easy: export CSV from GLPI and import into Snipe-IT. Tickets are harder. Zammad has no CSV ticket import, only its API, which one community user called "a little bit too complex". Many teams start fresh on tickets and keep GLPI read-only for history.
Pricing. Snipe-IT is free self-hosted, or hosted from $39.99 a month ($399.99 a year) with unlimited users and assets. Zammad is free self-hosted, or cloud from €7 per agent per month billed annually (Starter, up to 5 agents), €16 Professional, €25 Plus, hosted in ISO 27001 data centers in Germany.

SolarWinds Service Desk: change management on the first tier
ITIL from day oneWhy switch to it. Change management and the CMDB come with Essentials, the entry plan. You do not need to climb tiers to get back what GLPI gave you.
Who it's for. Teams that already run a formal change process and want it in the cloud.
Who it's not for. Anyone who needs network discovery on a budget, since it starts at Advanced. Or anyone who must self-host.
The catch. At $39 per technician, the entry price is double GLPI Cloud. Asset management pricing is only available on request.
How to migrate. No published GLPI path. Use CSV exports for assets and a third-party tool or the API for tickets.
Pricing. Essentials $39, Advanced $99, Premier $124 per technician per month, billed annually. 30-day trial.

InvGate Service Management: annual pricing, built for small teams
Flat annual plansWhy switch to it. InvGate prices by the year rather than by the month, with a Starter plan sized for a five-agent team. If you like predictable annual budgets, the model is easy to forecast.
Who it's for. Small to mid-size IT teams, roughly 5 to 100 agents, that want ITIL-style ticketing in the cloud.
Who it's not for. Teams that want inventory and ticketing in one license. Asset Management is a separate product, licensed on its own.
The catch. To replace all of GLPI you need two InvGate licenses, not one. Run the numbers with both. InvGate also writes one of the top-ranking GLPI alternatives articles, and ranks itself first, so read vendor lists with that in mind.
How to migrate. InvGate advertises an easy migration but does not detail a GLPI procedure. Ask for it in writing during the sales process.
Pricing. Starter $1,499 per year for 5 agents. Pro $500 per agent per year, from $2,500, for 5 to 100 agents. Enterprise from $12,000 per year. Prices exclude tax and can change.

The 7 options side by side
The question that matters when you leave GLPI: do you get inventory, ticketing and ITIL processes in one tool? Only GLPI Network Cloud, ServiceDesk Plus and Freshservice (on Pro) cover all three. The rest cover part of it. Left column: what the tool covers. Right column: entry price and how your data gets in.
| What it covers | Entry price and migration | |
|---|---|---|
| GLPI Network CloudSame GLPI | Agent and SNMP inventory, tickets, problems, changes | €19/agent/month; free migration by Teclib |
| FreshserviceLeast setup | Agent and probe discovery; problems and changes on Pro | $19/agent/month; assets by CSV, tickets via third-party tool |
| ManageEngine ServiceDesk PlusSelf-hosted | Inventory, tickets; full ITIL on Enterprise or add-ons | $13/tech/month, free up to 5; CSV plus third-party tool |

Leaving GLPI in seven steps
GLPI has no built-in way to move data to another instance or another product. Internal IDs are auto-incremented numbers, so copying part of the database breaks the links between tickets, assets and users. The order below avoids that.
The steps
Decide what you are leaving: the server or the tool
If your technicians like GLPI and only the upkeep hurts, GLPI Network Cloud solves it with a one to two hour cutover. If the tool itself is the problem, keep going. This choice shapes the rest of the plan.
- Time
- one meeting
- Key question
- who complains, and about what?
List everything that lives in GLPI
Open tickets and history, assets by type, contracts and licenses, knowledge base, forms, plugins, business rules, entities. One row per item, with its equivalent in the target tool. Anything not on the list will not make it across.
- Time
- half a day
- Trap
- forgotten plugins
Export, and keep a full copy
GLPI's search engine exports any list to CSV, by hand. To automate, use API v2 (OAuth), which returns JSON you will need to convert. Either way, keep a full SQL dump and the files folder, which holds every attachment.
- Format
- CSV or API v2
- Keep
- SQL dump plus files folder
Build the target structure before importing
Create asset types, custom fields and ticket categories in the new tool first. CSV imports usually reference assets by name, not by GLPI ID, so clean up duplicate names before you import.
- Time
- one to three days
- Trap
- duplicate asset names
Import assets first, then tickets
Assets go in by CSV, often one type per file. For tickets, Help Desk Migration moves tickets, history, problems, changes and knowledge base articles to Freshservice, ServiceDesk Plus and others, priced by record count with a free demo, but it does not list assets. The simplest route: move only open tickets and keep GLPI read-only for history.
- Assets
- CSV
- Tickets
- third-party tool or API
Swap the inventory agents
Roll out the new tool's agent, then disable GLPI Agent. Watch for duplicates in week one: a device seen by both agents shows up twice. For SNMP devices, remember you only get what the manufacturer exposes.
- Time
- one to two weeks
- Trap
- duplicate devices
Freeze GLPI during cutover
On cutover day, set GLPI to read-only. Otherwise a ticket logged between export and import is lost and the two systems drift apart. Teclib gives the same instruction for its own cloud migration.
- Time
- one day
- Keep GLPI
- read-only for a few months

What makes a GLPI migration go wrong
The failures people post about look alike. They are rarely deep technical problems. They are skipped steps.
Assuming the new tool imports GLPI
None of the vendors here publishes a complete GLPI importer, and the specialist migration tool does not cover assets. Plan two separate workstreams: assets on one side, tickets on the other.
Copying tables by hand
On the GLPI forum, an admin wanted to keep 5,000 historical tickets by copying SQL tables between instances. Nobody answered with a fix, because auto-incremented IDs break the links. Use exports, never partial table copies.
Forgetting forms and plugins
A form built with a plugin has no equivalent elsewhere. Even GLPI's own form migration to version 11 lost conditional rules. List every form and rebuild it by hand in the target.
Comparing sticker prices only
The per-agent price is one line of the bill. Add ITIL add-ons (ServiceDesk Plus), asset packs (Freshservice), a second license (InvGate), onboarding (HaloITSM) and the per-record migration tool. Compare over a year for your agent count. Our rankings of ITSM software and IT asset management software break down each price list.
- SQL dump and
filesfolder backed up - Plugins and forms listed
- Asset types rebuilt in the target
- Duplicate asset names cleaned
- New agents deployed, duplicates watched
- GLPI frozen on cutover day
GLPI alternatives: frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to GLPI?
Not one that does everything. ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus is free up to 5 technicians. Snipe-IT and Zammad are free to self-host with no seat limit, but one tracks assets and the other handles tickets. For a small team, that pair is often the lightest setup.
GLPI vs Snipe-IT: which one do I need?
Snipe-IT if you only need an asset register: it handles unlimited users and assets but has no ticketing and no automatic discovery. GLPI if you need tickets, automated inventory and ITIL processes in one place. Many small teams run Snipe-IT next to a separate help desk.
Can I import GLPI tickets into Freshservice or Jira?
Not natively. Help Desk Migration lists GLPI as a source for Freshservice, Jira Service Management, TOPdesk, ServiceDesk Plus and others, covering tickets, history, problems and changes. Assets are not on its list, so plan a CSV import for those. The other route is GLPI's API v2.
Is GLPI 10 end of life?
GLPI 12 is now the major version the vendor promotes, and GLPI 11 came before it, so GLPI 10 is two majors behind. If you are still on 10, plan the upgrade or the move now rather than patching an old branch.
What is the best self-hosted ITSM?
For a full replacement on your own servers, ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus covers inventory, tickets and ITIL. iTop from Combodo is open source and CMDB-centric, free up to 10 agents, but has no native discovery agent. For a lighter stack, Snipe-IT plus Zammad.
How much does GLPI Network Cloud cost?
Public Cloud is €19 per agent per month, from one agent, no minimum term. Private Cloud is €21 per agent with 25 agents minimum. The trial runs 45 days with no card, and migration from your server is free.
What happens to my plugins if I move to GLPI Cloud?
Third-party plugins and custom development are not carried over. Built-in cloud modules such as finance, projects and knowledge base are included. List your plugins before you request migration and check what the cloud already covers.
