Rippling alternatives: replace each piece without breaking anything

Six options, sorted by what Rippling does for you today, plus an eight-step exit plan.

The short answer: BambooHR if you're a small US team that wants published prices; Justworks if you want benefits handled through a PEO; Deel or Remote if you pay people across countries; Factorial if you want HR, IT and spend in one place; JumpCloud to take over the IT side. What most lists miss: Rippling often does three jobs at once. Leaving it rarely means swapping one tool. It usually means picking two. We compared these six options and reread their official pricing pages in 2026.

The real reasons

Why teams leave Rippling, and when you should stay

To be fair: Rippling is well rated (4.6 out of 5 on more than 2,600 reviews on the biggest consumer review site), and its own figures put first chat response at around 30 seconds on average. If you're a growing US company with laptops to manage and someone to run the system, staying is often the right call. People leave over the bill, the contract, and complexity they don't need.

A bill that grows with every module

Rippling advertises "$8 per employee per month" plus a base fee it doesn't list. Payroll, time, devices, spend: each one adds up. One customer put it bluntly: "Rippling nickels and dimes you to buy basic features most HRIS companies provide."

A contract to read before you try to leave

Rippling doesn't publish its contract length or renewal rules: they live in your order form. Some customers describe being held to a one-year contract and refused a prorated refund after a failed rollout. Before you plan an exit, know exactly when and how you can stop.

Too much tool for a small team

HR, IT and finance in one place is great at 150 people. At 15, you configure and pay for features you won't touch, and several reviewers say simple tasks still need an admin.

Account management that keeps changing

Chat is fast, but negative reviews mention account managers reassigned again and again, and questions asked twice. Phone support runs through chat (about a third of chats move to a call). On payday, that's a long road.

PEO costs that creep

Rippling PEO pricing isn't public, and switching PEO is painful. Rippling says you can leave its PEO and keep the software, which is worth asking about before you leave the whole platform.

Price you can't compare

With a base fee and quote-only payroll, you can't line Rippling up against a public price list until you have a written quote. Ask for one before you commit to anything else.

The 6 alternatives

Rippling alternatives, tool by tool

For each one: why move there, who it's for, the catch, how to migrate, and the price. BambooHR and Justworks fit US small businesses, Deel and Remote global teams, Factorial teams that want everything in one place, JumpCloud the IT side. Gusto isn't on the list because we couldn't read its current prices on an official page. HiBob and Personio don't publish prices.

01

BambooHR: published prices and a simpler HR core

Best default for small US teams

Why move to BambooHR. The most common complaint about Rippling is the bill: every module adds up, and the monthly base fee isn't on the pricing page. BambooHR publishes its plans. You know the per-employee price before the first sales call, and teams of 25 or fewer pay a flat monthly fee.

Who it's for. US companies from 10 to a few hundred employees whose HR team wants a clean employee database, time off, onboarding and performance reviews, without IT and spend management bundled in.

Who it's not for. Teams that relied on Rippling to ship laptops and provision app accounts. BambooHR has no device management, so you'll need a separate IT tool. And payroll only covers US employees.

The catch. Payroll is quote-only, and the pricing page shows two figures for Core and Pro ($10 on the plan cards, $10.25 in the FAQ). Get the number in writing.

How to migrate. Start with the employee directory, managers and time-off balances. If you also move payroll, plan it for the start of a quarter so you have fewer filings to rebuild.

Price. Core $10, Pro $17, Elite $25 per employee per month. Flat fee for 25 employees or fewer: $250, $425 or $650 a month. Payroll quoted separately, with 15% off when bundled with benefits administration.

02

Justworks: a PEO with a price you can read

If you want benefits handled

Why move to Justworks. Many small companies use Rippling PEO for big-company health plans. Justworks does the same job as a PEO (it becomes co-employer and handles payroll taxes and benefits) and publishes two plans with no base fee.

Who it's for. US startups and small businesses, often under 50 people, that want payroll, compliance and health benefits in one monthly line.

Who it's not for. Companies with employees outside the US, and teams that want device and app management. Justworks covers neither.

The catch. Leaving any PEO is a project of its own: the year you leave, employees can get two W-2s and some tax wage bases reset. Check that before you sign, not after.

How to migrate. Line the switch up with your benefits plan year if you can, so nobody's coverage breaks mid-year. Ask Justworks for its onboarding calendar before giving notice to Rippling.

Price. PEO Basic $79 and PEO Plus $124 per employee per month, no base fee. Plus adds health, dental and vision administration.

Deel: hiring abroad without opening an entity

For global hiring

Why move to Deel. If Rippling was mainly your way to pay people in other countries, Deel is built around that job: employer of record (EOR, a provider that legally employs your hire in a country where you have no entity), plus contractor payments.

Who it's for. Companies with a handful of people spread across countries, and teams paying many international contractors.

Who it's not for. A fully US team. EOR pricing makes no sense if everyone is on your own payroll.

The catch. $599 a month per EOR employee is more than $7,000 a year per person, before salary. Deel also sells IT and device tools, but its own regional pages show different prices for them, so get a written quote.

How to migrate. Moving an EOR employee means a new employment contract with a new legal employer. Tell each person early and switch at month end. Contractors are easier: new agreement, new payment details.

Price. EOR from $599 per employee per month; contractors from $49 a month; Contractor of Record from $325; US PEO from $125.

Remote: global payroll with no base fee

Clearest global pricing

Why move to Remote. Rippling charges a base fee it doesn't put a number on. Remote says the opposite on its pricing page: no base fee, no setup or onboarding fees, and global payroll from $29 per employee if you already have your own entities.

Who it's for. Companies with subsidiaries in several countries that want one payroll, and teams using EOR until they open an entity.

Who it's not for. Anyone who needs a full HR suite (reviews, learning) or device management. Remote sticks to employment and pay.

The catch. EOR starts at the same $599 as Deel, on annual contracts, and the final price depends on the country.

How to migrate. List your people by country and status (own entity, EOR, contractor). Each status has its own plan and price. Move one country at a time, smallest first.

Price. Global Payroll from $29 per employee per month; EOR from $599 (annual); Contractor Management $29, Plus $99; Contractor of Record $325; US PEO $99. No base fee.

Factorial: HR, IT and spend in one place, without the US focus

Closest all-in-one

Why move to Factorial. Factorial follows the same idea as Rippling: a shared core (Factorial Core) plus Time, Talent, Finance and IT modules, including device and SaaS access management. If you liked having a new hire's contract, laptop and accounts handled in one flow, it changes the least.

Who it's for. Growing companies, especially with teams in Europe, that want one interface for HR and IT.

Who it's not for. US companies that need US payroll in the same tool, and buyers who want a price before a demo.

The catch. The pricing page shows two different starting prices and no named plan. In practice, it's a quote after a demo, just like Rippling.

How to migrate. List the Rippling modules you actually use and get that exact scope quoted, IT included. Export your directory, managers, time-off balances and device inventory first.

Price. Custom quote after a demo, with Factorial Core included in every plan.

JumpCloud: replacing Rippling IT on its own

If you used Rippling IT

Why move to JumpCloud. Half of Rippling's appeal is IT: device management (MDM, software that controls laptops remotely) and single sign-on (SSO). Pick an HR tool without IT and you'll need something for that half. JumpCloud sells it on its own, with public prices.

Who it's for. Teams from 20 to a few hundred people with a laptop fleet who want account creation and shutdown kept in one place.

Who it's not for. Teams that want HR to trigger account creation with zero integration work. That's Rippling's real strength.

The catch. It's a second tool to connect to your HRIS, and the full Platform bundles are quote-only.

How to migrate. Build every setting and app in JumpCloud first. Then reassign Macs in Apple Business Manager and remove the Rippling profile: the old MDM can pull software when it lets a device go. Go team by team.

Price. Per user per month, billed annually: Device Management $9 ($11 monthly), SSO $11 ($13), Device Identity Management $13 ($15). À la carte modules from $3. 30-day free trial.

Exit plan

Leaving Rippling in eight steps

A Rippling exit runs on three fronts at once: payroll and benefits, people abroad, and laptops. Each step protects one of them, and the first one protects your budget.

01

Read your order form first

Well ahead

Rippling doesn't publish its term and renewal rules: they're in your order form and the customer terms attached to it. Find four things: the end date, the non-renewal notice window, the rule on billed user count, and the renewal price clause.

Tip: send your non-renewal notice in writing as soon as you decide. One month of overlap costs less than another full term.

02

List everything Rippling does for you

Week 1

Write down each real use: employee records, time off, payroll (which states and countries), PEO benefits, contractors, laptops, app access, cards and expenses. Next to each, write the tool that will take it over. It's usually two or three tools.

This list prevents the classic surprise: Rippling is gone and nobody is shutting off accounts when someone leaves.

Often missed

03

Export while you still have full access

Month 1

As an admin, pull the payroll reports (including the payroll journal) and build custom reports for your directory, managers, compensation and time off. Download signed documents separately.

Open every file before you give notice. A broken export found after access ends can't be fixed.

04

Pick a payroll switch date

Month 1 to 2

January 1 is the cleanest switch date: the new provider starts the year with no history to rebuild. Any other date means loading year-to-date totals for every employee and checking them against your last Rippling payroll.

Our guide to leaving ADP covers moving year-to-date payroll data in detail.

05

Plan the PEO exit separately

If you use Rippling PEO

Leaving a PEO changes who reports wages and taxes for your team, so ask both providers in writing who files what for the year of the switch. Rippling says you can leave its PEO and keep its software, so check whether that alone solves your problem.

Align the date with your benefits plan year so coverage doesn't break mid-year.

06

Move laptops without wiping them

If you used Rippling IT

Set up the new tool first: settings, apps, security policies. Then reassign Macs in Apple Business Manager and remove the Rippling profile. The old MDM can remove what it installed when it releases a device, which is why you prepare first.

Go team by team, with one test user in each.

07

Rewire onboarding and offboarding

Before go-live

In Rippling, a termination in HR shut off accounts. Make sure your new setup does the same: the HRIS has to tell your SSO tool, or someone needs a checklist.

Run a fake termination before go-live. It's the only way to know former employees won't keep access.

Keep Rippling open for at least one full payroll after go-live. Compare employee by employee: net pay, balances, managers. Track every change between your export and go-live and re-enter it.

Decide who can call a rollback, and by what date.

Pitfalls

What makes a Rippling exit go wrong

Almost none of these are technical. They all come from the same place: Rippling was quietly doing several jobs, and nobody wrote them down.

Missing the notice window

The project is ready, but the contract rolls into another term because nobody sent notice in time. Find the date in your order form on day one.

Forgetting offboarding

In Rippling, an HR termination closed accounts. After the switch, if your HRIS and SSO don't talk, former staff keep access. Try it first.

Releasing laptops too early

The old MDM can strip apps and settings when it lets go. If the new one isn't ready, your team starts Monday without its tools.

Switching EOR without warning

An EOR employee changes legal employer. Without notice, it feels like being let go. Talk to each person before you sign.

Comparing a starting price to a full bill

$8 against $10 means nothing. Compare full annual costs: modules, base fee, payroll, IT tool, setup.

Breaking benefits mid-year

Leaving a PEO in the middle of a plan year can interrupt coverage. Line up the date with the plan year or get the gap covered in writing.

  • End date, notice window and billed user count checked in the order form
  • Inventory done: one target tool per job
  • Payroll, directory, time-off and document exports opened and checked
  • Payroll switch date set (January 1 if possible)
  • PEO exit and benefits plan year lined up
  • EOR employees told, new contracts ready
  • New IT tool ready before releasing laptops
  • Fake termination run
  • One full payroll run in parallel
  • Rollback plan written down
  • Data return written into the new vendor's contract
FAQ · 7 questions

Rippling alternatives: common questions

  • What is better than Rippling?

Nothing is better at everything, which is Rippling's point. For a small US team that wants published prices, BambooHR. For benefits through a PEO, Justworks. For global hiring, Deel or Remote. Our HRIS software ranking goes further.

  • How much does Rippling cost?

Rippling says plans start at $8 per employee per month plus a monthly base fee it doesn't list. Payroll is quote-only. Your real price depends on modules, so get a written quote module by module before comparing.

  • Is Rippling worth it for a small business?

It can be if you need HR, payroll, laptops and app access in one place and you're growing. Under about 20 people with no IT to manage, you'll often pay for features you don't use. BambooHR's flat $250 a month for 25 employees or fewer is a useful benchmark.

  • Can I reduce my Rippling user count mid-contract?

Rippling doesn't publish the rule: it's in your order form and customer terms. Read the clause on billed users before counting on a reduction. If it blocks you, negotiate at renewal, and put the date in your calendar three months ahead.

  • How do I cancel Rippling?

Check your order form for the end date and notice window, then send written non-renewal notice before the deadline. Export your data while you still have admin access, and keep the account through one parallel payroll if your contract allows it.

  • Rippling or Deel for international hiring?

Deel if hiring and paying people in countries where you have no entity is the main job. Rippling if you also want laptops and app access in the same tool. Compare Remote too, since it has no base fee. See our employer of record ranking.

  • What replaces Rippling IT?

Factorial IT if you want HR and devices in one tool. Otherwise, a dedicated tool like JumpCloud, from $9 per user per month for device management. Plan to re-enroll laptops team by team.
