Overview

What changes once Claude can search Checkatrade

Instead of browsing trade categories and comparing profiles tab by tab, you tell Claude what is wrong and where you live in the UK. It searches Checkatrade's network for you and returns a ranked shortlist, and for a handful of common jobs it can walk you through a fixed-price booking right up to payment.

Get a shortlist for a leaking tap. A tenant in Leeds describes the drip and gives a postcode. Claude calls findTradespeopleV1 and comes back with ranked local plumbers, their star ratings, review counts, badges, phone numbers and profile links.

Compare before calling anyone. Because each result carries ratings and review counts, you can ask Claude to set two electricians side by side and pick who to ring, still inside the same conversation.

Book a boiler service at a fixed price. For a small set of everyday jobs, bookExpressJobV1 lets Claude collect your details and preferred time slots for a Checkatrade Express option, then hand you over to a secure payment step.

What it will not do: Claude does not take payment in the chat, and fixed-price booking covers only routine work such as boiler servicing, gas safety certificates, heating upkeep and basic plumbing or electrics. Bigger projects stay at the shortlist stage. Nothing runs by itself either. Vocabulary

Five words before you connect

The vocabulary around this connector, in one minute.

Connector
A link you set up once between Claude and an outside service, so Claude can use that service while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing the connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs on its own, and the directory lists each one by name.
Authorization
The sign-in screen where a service hands Claude its access. Checkatrade says no account or login is needed for this one.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes ahead with something that has consequences, shown in the conversation at that moment.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service such as Checkatrade.
Connect

Connect Checkatrade to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Checkatrade in Claude

Open Claude's settings, go to Customize then Connectors, and look for Checkatrade in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it before members can use it.

  2. 02

    Launch the connection

Click Connect on the Checkatrade row. If it stops responding one day, click Disconnect, then connect again: that is the official way to repair a link that has gone wrong.

  3. 03

    Check what the access covers

With most services, this is where you read the authorization screen before accepting. Checkatrade states that no account, sign-up or login is needed, so there is nothing of yours to unlock at this stage.

Tools

The 2 Checkatrade tools, one search and one booking

Checkatrade gives Claude 2 tools: 1 that read your account, 1 that change something in it.

Both tools are described on the connector's directory sheet by Checkatrade itself. Names stay exactly as Claude shows them.

Approvals

What Claude checks with you first

By default, Claude stops and asks before each action it takes on someone's behalf, and the prompt appears in the conversation when it matters.

Here the action that counts is the booking. Checkatrade describes it as a guided flow: Claude collects your details and preferred slots, then hands over to secure payment, so the money step is not done by Claude in the conversation. On Team and Enterprise workspaces, owners decide whether members may let some actions pass without a prompt, and they can cap what a connector may do for the whole organization, for example keeping search open and booking shut. Nobody overrides that from their own account.

Plans

Which Claude plans include Checkatrade

None of the 819 sheets in the official directory shows its availability by plan. Connector by connector, that information is published nowhere.

The general rule is sourced: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner opens a connector before members can use it. For the live state of this one, check its sheet in the official directory. Note that only Checkatrade documents this connector; no Claude help page covers it.

Limits

Where the Checkatrade connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools only while it answers you, so nothing happens on its own when a new tradesperson joins your area.

The two tools on the sheet are an observed floor, not a ceiling: an administrator can open actions no public sheet shows. The publisher's own page about Claude could not be read during our review, so everything here comes from the directory sheet. The partner badge is not a security audit, and Anthropic states on every sheet that it does not guarantee tools behave as announced.

When you book, the details Claude collects for you go to Checkatrade, so share only what the job needs.

FAQ

Questions about the Claude Checkatrade connector

01What can Claude do with the Checkatrade connector?
Claude can find local UK tradespeople and, for some routine jobs, book one at a fixed price. You give a UK postcode and describe the problem in plain words. One tool returns a ranked list of Checkatrade members with ratings, review counts, badges, phone numbers and profile links. The other guides you through a Checkatrade Express booking, gathering your details and time slots before passing you to a secure payment step.
02Can Claude book a tradesperson for me through Checkatrade?
Yes, for fixed-price Checkatrade Express jobs. The booking tool collects your details and the time slots that suit you, then hands you over to secure payment, so Claude does not pay on your behalf. The jobs that qualify are routine ones, such as boiler servicing and repair, gas safety certificates, central heating maintenance and basic plumbing or electrical work. For anything larger, Claude stops at finding and comparing tradespeople, and you contact them yourself.
03Does Claude ask before booking a Checkatrade job?
By default, Claude asks for confirmation before each action it takes on someone's behalf. No source describes a specific prompt for the Checkatrade booking tool, so that general rule is what covers it. The payment itself happens in a secure step outside the conversation. In an organization workspace, owners can also restrict the connector for everyone, for example keeping the search and closing the booking, and members cannot undo that themselves.
04Which Claude plans is Checkatrade available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets displays it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise workspaces. Checkatrade's sheet does not name a Claude plan. Check the connector's sheet in the official directory while signed in to see its current state.
05Does Claude need my Checkatrade account to work?
No. Checkatrade says no account, sign-up or login is needed: a valid UK postcode and a description of the job are enough. So there is no personal Checkatrade profile behind the connector for Claude to read. What you do share are the details Claude collects when you book an Express job, such as your contact information and preferred time slots, before payment happens in a separate secure step. Keep what you share to the minimum.
06Can Claude book a renovation or extension through Checkatrade?
Not according to the sources. For bigger projects like a renovation, a loft conversion or an extension, Claude can return ranked local tradespeople with their ratings and contact details, but fixed-price booking only covers a short list of routine jobs. You would then contact the tradespeople yourself through the numbers or profile links Claude gives you. Checkatrade documents nothing beyond that for larger work. That is where the connector ends today.
07Should I use Claude or an automation tool with Checkatrade?
They do different jobs, so choose by usage. Claude with this connector fits a one-off need you describe in conversation: find a plumber, compare two electricians, book a boiler service. An automation tool fits work that repeats without anyone asking, and nothing in this connector runs on its own. Neither one is the winner: they answer different needs, one on request and one on a trigger, and this page does not rank them.
