What you can automate

What can the Pointagram Make integration automate?

The Pointagram Make integration links your Pointagram account to Make, a no-code tool where you build a scenario (the automation itself, a chain of modules). Each module is one brick of that chain: a trigger that starts it, an action that changes something, or a search that finds records.

Rewards that follow real work. When a deal closes in your CRM or a support ticket gets solved, a scenario can run Add Points so the leaderboard moves without anyone typing a score. The other app starts the flow, Pointagram records the result.

Onboarding without the admin chores. A new hire appears in your HR tool, Create a Player sets up the profile, then Add a Player to a Team drops that person into the right squad. When someone changes department, Update a Player and Delete a Player from a Team keep the roster honest.

A roster you can reuse elsewhere. Watch Players picks up players on the scenario's schedule, and List Players returns the players of your account, ready to copy into a sheet or a message.

A few limits worth knowing. Make's own documentation for this app warns that it was generated with AI from Pointagram's docs and may contain mistakes, so check anything critical against Pointagram. If a feature has no module, Make an API Call reaches the rest of the API. Before you pick a tool, the n8n vs Make comparison lays out the criteria, the Make review covers the editor in depth, and Make training helps if scenarios are new to you.

Connect

How do you connect Pointagram to Make?

  1. 01

Generate an API key in Pointagram

In Pointagram, open your profile, go to Settings, then Integrations. Click Add a Custom Integration, then Create Credentials, give the integration a name, click Show Key and copy the key.

  2. 02

Add a Pointagram module in Make

Log in to Make, open a scenario and add any Pointagram module. In the module panel, click Create a connection. A connection is your Pointagram account linked to Make once, then reused by every Pointagram module.

  3. 03

    Paste the key and save

Give the connection a clear label in Connection name if you like; it is optional. Paste the API key you copied from Pointagram, confirm, and your Pointagram modules are ready to use.

First scenario

Your first scenario: put new Pointagram players on a team

GoalWhen Watch Players picks up a player in Pointagram, Make adds that player to the team you chose.

  1. 01

    Create the scenario

From the Scenarios page, create a new scenario and click the big + to add the first module. This first module is what starts everything.

  2. 02

    Pick Watch Players

Search for Pointagram, choose Watch Players and link your account with Create a connection, using the API key from the previous section.

  3. 03

    Add the team step

Click the + on the right of the trigger and add Add a Player to a Team. Map the player coming from Watch Players, then choose the team that should welcome newcomers.

  4. 04

    Test it with Run once

Click Run once. Make runs the scenario a single time and shows the bundles each module received, a bundle being one item passed along, here one player.

  5. 05

    Schedule and switch on

Open the clock on the first module to set the schedule. A new scenario checks every 15 minutes by default. Then flip the scenario on so it keeps running without you.

Triggers

What starts a Pointagram scenario

1 module starts a scenario when something happens in Pointagram. A scheduled trigger is checked by Make on the scenario's schedule; an instant one is called by Pointagram as soon as it happens.

Pointagram1Watch Players

Watch Players

triggerIn the docs only

Watch Players gives your scenario a steady feed of Pointagram players, so every step after it can greet, sort or reward them without you checking the app by hand. Each player it returns becomes one bundle for the next module.

How it fires
scheduled. Make checks Pointagram on the scenario's schedule, shown by the clock badge, and never earlier than 15 minutes apart on the Free plan.
When to use it
pick it when a new player should set off something else, like a team assignment or a welcome message in another tool.
Watch out
the directory was unavailable when this page was written, so its type comes from its name; confirm the clock badge in your editor.
Modules

What the Pointagram modules can do

Pointagram gives you 7 modules. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

Pointagram1

Add Points

ActionIn the docs only

Add Points is how results elsewhere turn into a score in Pointagram. It gives points inside your Pointagram account from whatever event your scenario catches, so the leaderboard reflects what really happened.

When to use it
right after a trigger from another app, such as a closed deal or a finished task.
Watch out
it runs once per bundle it receives, so a search upstream that returns several items awards points several times.
Pointagram2

Add a Player to a Team

ActionIn the docs only

Placing people in the right group stops being a manual job with this action. It puts an existing Pointagram player into one of your teams, which is what team leaderboards and team goals rely on.

When to use it
straight after Create a Player, or after Watch Players, to sort newcomers.
Watch out
the player must already exist in Pointagram; chain Create a Player first when the person is brand new.
Pointagram3

Create a Player

ActionIn the docs only

With Create a Player, someone who joins your company or program shows up in Pointagram without a manual signup. The action adds a new player to your account from data your scenario already holds.

When to use it
when a new employee, member or student lands in another tool and should start collecting points.
Watch out
run it only for genuinely new people; for someone already there, Update a Player avoids a duplicate profile.
Pointagram4

Delete a Player from a Team

ActionIn the docs only

Keeping team rosters accurate when people move on is the job of this action. It takes a player out of a Pointagram team, so team rankings only count the people who still belong there.

When to use it
when someone switches department or leaves a project, often paired with Add a Player to a Team.
Watch out
test with Run once on a single player before switching the scenario on, since a wrong mapping removes the wrong people.
Pointagram5

List Players

SearchIn the docs only

List Players hands you the players in your Pointagram account so you can use them elsewhere in the scenario. As a search module, it can return zero, one or many players, each one as its own bundle.

When to use it
when you need to copy players into a spreadsheet or look someone up before acting on them.
Watch out
every bundle it returns runs the next modules again, and each run counts as an operation on your plan.
Pointagram6

Make an API Call

ActionIn the docs only

This module is your way around a missing feature. It lets your scenario call any endpoint of the Pointagram API, reusing the connection you already created, so you are not stuck with only the listed modules.

When to use it
when none of the other seven Pointagram modules covers the task you have in mind.
Watch out
you work with the raw API here, so keep Pointagram's API documentation open while you set it up.
Pointagram7

Update a Player

ActionIn the docs only

Update a Player keeps a profile current when details change in another system. Instead of creating someone twice, it edits a player who already exists in your Pointagram account.

When to use it
when a person's details change in your HR tool or CRM and Pointagram should follow.
Watch out
the scenario has to know which player to edit, so a List Players step upstream often helps you find the right one.

FAQ

Questions people ask next

01Is the Pointagram Make integration free?
Yes, on the Make side. Pointagram is a standard app, so it works on Make's Free plan. That plan allows 2 active scenarios, a minimum of 15 minutes between scheduled runs, 5 minutes of execution per run, files up to 5 MB and 512 MB of data transfer. Paid plans (Core, Pro, Teams and Enterprise) lower the interval to 1 minute and count usage in operations each month. You still need your own active Pointagram account, and its price is set by Pointagram, not by Make.
02What do you need to connect Pointagram to Make?
Two things: an active Pointagram account and a Pointagram API key. You create the key in Pointagram from your profile, under Settings then Integrations, by adding a custom integration and clicking Create Credentials, then Show Key. In Make, add any Pointagram module, click Create a connection, optionally name it, and paste the key. That single connection is then reused by all 8 Pointagram modules, so you only do this setup once per account.
03Does the Pointagram trigger in Make fire instantly?
No. Watch Players is a scheduled trigger: Make checks Pointagram on the schedule you set on the first module, which is every 15 minutes by default for a new scenario. The Free plan cannot go below 15 minutes; paid plans can go down to 1 minute. There is no instant Pointagram trigger in Make, so if you need a faster reaction, start the scenario from another app's event and use Pointagram actions like Add Points afterwards.
04What if a Pointagram module you need is missing in Make?
Use Make an API Call. It calls any endpoint of the Pointagram API from your scenario, with the same connection as the other modules, so you are not limited to the 6 actions and 1 search listed. Keep in mind that Make's documentation for this app says it was produced with AI from Pointagram's docs and may contain errors. When something behaves differently than described, Pointagram's own documentation is the reference to check.
05Should you use Make or n8n for Pointagram?
It depends on what you need. On Make, Pointagram has 8 ready modules covering players, teams and points, plus Make an API Call for the rest, and a first scenario can be tested with Run once before it goes live. n8n is another automation tool, and many apps have a node there too, but this page does not confirm one for Pointagram. Check the modules you need on each side before choosing, and compare how each tool counts your usage.
