Overview

What the 1Lookup Zapier integration actually does

The 1Lookup Zapier integration lets an automation built on Zapier hand an email, a phone number, an IP address or a domain to 1Lookup, and get back a verdict or the missing details. It works only as a step in the middle of a Zap: 1Lookup checks and enriches, while another app supplies the data and starts the run.

Three results come up again and again. A cleaner lead list: Validate Email and Validate Phone tell you whether a contact can be reached, and Check Phone for Spam flags numbers with a bad reputation before a sales rep dials them. A fuller contact record: Append Email and Append Phone start from a name and a postal address, while Look Up Contact by Email, by Phone or by IP go the other way round. A quick read on a website or a visitor: Analyze Domain SEO returns authority, backlink and traffic figures for a domain, and Look Up IP Address tells you where a connection comes from and how risky it looks.

Now the limits. 1Lookup has no trigger on Zapier, so nothing that happens inside 1Lookup can start a Zap. It has no search either: every operation is an action, and each successful one counts against your plan. Zapier also does not decide what to do with the answer. If a phone number comes back as spam, you still have to say what happens next, with a filter or another step.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English, once.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier. One trigger, then one or more actions that run every single time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it. With 1Lookup, the trigger always lives in another app.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or checks something for you. All 11 operations of 1Lookup are actions.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action that completed successfully, and the number on your plan is a count of those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer, at a fixed interval. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the data meets a condition you set, and stops it there when the condition fails.
Connection
Your account of an app linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that calls that same app.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap that goes beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter turns it into one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a 1Lookup Zap really costs

1Lookup is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. What you pay for is tasks, and only actions that succeed are billed.

  • Trigger0 task
  • Each successful 1Lookup action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan

The trigger never costs a task, and neither does Zapier checking for new data, however often it checks. Each 1Lookup action that completes counts once. Chain Validate Email and Validate Phone in the same Zap and every run eats two tasks. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Add a second 1Lookup check or a filter and you are on a paid plan.

Connect

Connect your 1Lookup account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A dialog opens: type 1Lookup in the search box and pick it from the list. Make sure you already have a 1Lookup account at this point.

  2. 02

    Sign in to 1Lookup

Click Add connection. A new tab opens on the 1Lookup side. Sign in with the 1Lookup account you want your Zaps to use, since every step that calls 1Lookup will reuse it.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to access the account, and the connection shows up in your list. From then on, any Zap step that calls 1Lookup offers it in a dropdown, so you never have to sign in again for the next Zap.

First Zap

Your first Zap: check a new lead's email and phone

GoalEach new form entry gets its email and phone number checked by 1Lookup before the lead reaches your sales team.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap and pick your form tool as the trigger app. 1Lookup has no trigger of its own, so the starting event always comes from somewhere else.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent entries of the connected account, so you map fields from a real lead instead of a blank sample.

  3. 03

    Add Validate Email

Add an action, choose 1Lookup, then Validate Email. Map the email field of the form into the Email box, the only mandatory one.

  4. 04

    Add Validate Phone

Add a second action with 1Lookup and Validate Phone, then map the phone field. Two actions make this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Test each step

Run every step once and read what came back. If the email verdict looks wrong, fix the mapping now, before real leads go through.

  6. 06

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From then on, each new form entry costs two tasks whenever both 1Lookup checks succeed, and nothing when they fail.

Actions

The 11 1Lookup actions

1Lookup gives you 11 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Analyze Domain SEO

Action

In Zapier“Analyzes a domain and returns SEO authority, backlink, traffic, and social metrics.”

Give it a domain or a URL, and it hands back authority, backlink, traffic and social figures for that site. Useful to size up a prospect's website without opening an SEO tool.

When to use it
a new company lands in your CRM and you want a quick sense of its online weight before a sales call.
Watch out
the Domain field is mandatory, so a lead record without a website stops the step.
2

Append Email

Action

In Zapier“Appends an email address to a contact record using name and address information.”

Starting from a person's name and postal address, this step tries to attach an email address to the contact. It fills a gap rather than checking something you already have.

When to use it
a list of trade show visitors came with postal details only, and you want a channel to follow up.
Watch out
first name, last name, address, city and ZIP code are all required.
3

Look Up IP Address

Action

In Zapier“Looks up an IP address and returns geolocation, network, risk, and recommendation data.”

Pass an IPv4 or IPv6 address and you get back where it sits, which network it belongs to, a risk reading and a recommendation. Handy when a sign-up looks odd.

When to use it
your sign-up form records the visitor's IP and you want suspicious accounts flagged before anyone approves them.
Watch out
the step only works if the trigger app actually captures the IP.
4

Append Phone

Action

In Zapier“Appends a phone number to a contact record using name and address information.”

Same logic as Append Email, aimed at phone numbers: name and postal address go in, a number for that contact comes out when 1Lookup finds one.

When to use it
your field team needs to call people who only left a mailing address on a paper form typed in later.
Watch out
leave one of the five mandatory fields empty and the action fails, which at least costs no task.
5

Scrub Phone

Action

In Zapier“Scrubs a phone number and returns match status, phone type, and do-not-call information.”

Scrubbing a number tells you whether it matches, what type of line it is and whether it carries do-not-call information. That last point matters before any cold calling campaign.

When to use it
run it on every number that enters a call list, so reps skip the ones flagged as do-not-call.
Watch out
the number works with or without country code, but it has to be in the Phone Number field.
6

Check Phone for Spam

Action

In Zapier“Checks whether a phone number is associated with spam activity and returns threat and reputation data.”

This one asks a narrower question: has this number been tied to spam activity? You get threat and reputation data in return, not a full validation.

When to use it
inbound callback requests pile up and you want to drop the ones coming from numbers with a bad history.
Watch out
a clean spam result does not prove the line works; pair it with Validate Phone if reachability matters.
7

Look Up Contact by Email

Action

In Zapier“Looks up and appends contact information using an email address.”

The reverse of Append Email: you hold an address, and 1Lookup returns the contact details it can attach to it. A bare newsletter sign-up becomes a contact you can actually place.

When to use it
people subscribe with an email only, and your sales team wants to know who is behind the address.
Watch out
the Email field is mandatory, so map it from the trigger rather than typing a fixed value.
8

Look Up Contact by IP

Action

In Zapier“Looks up an IP address and appends contact and geolocation information.”

From an IP address, this step brings back contact and location details linked to it. It turns an anonymous technical trace into something a person can read.

When to use it
a demo request comes in with little detail and the IP is the only extra clue you have.
Watch out
do not confuse it with Look Up IP Address, which returns risk and network data rather than a contact.
9

Look Up Contact by Phone

Action

In Zapier“Looks up contact information using a phone number.”

Feed in a phone number and get the contact information 1Lookup associates with it. The field accepts plain digits like 2125550001 or a formatted (212) 555-0001.

When to use it
missed calls are logged in a sheet and you want a name next to each number before calling back.
Watch out
map the phone field from the trigger; one mandatory field, no fallback.
10

Validate Email

Action

In Zapier“Validates an email address and returns deliverability, reputation, risk, and recommendation data.”

Before a message goes out, this check reports whether the address is deliverable, what its reputation is, how risky it looks and what 1Lookup recommends doing with it.

When to use it
right after a lead form, so bad addresses never reach your mailing tool and hurt your sender reputation.
Watch out
the verdict alone changes nothing; add a filter afterwards to act on it.
11

Validate Phone

Action

In Zapier“Validates a phone number and returns carrier, risk, and recommendation data.”

For numbers, the matching check returns the carrier, a risk reading and a recommendation. You learn whether the number is worth dialing at all.

When to use it
before an SMS campaign, to keep dead or risky numbers out of the send list.
Watch out
a risky verdict still lets the number through unless a filter sits behind the step, and that filter makes the Zap multi-step.
When it breaks

When a 1Lookup Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to 1Lookup, so the known failure points are the general Zapier ones.

Most problems come from the Zap around 1Lookup rather than from 1Lookup itself. Here are the four cases to keep in mind. If one of them hits you, the Zapier troubleshooting page goes further.

  • Old leads are not checked

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Contacts already sitting in your form tool or CRM are never sent to 1Lookup; cleaning that backlog is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps firing itself

If the step after 1Lookup writes back into the very place your trigger watches, each write starts the Zap again. Every loop burns tasks fast, so write the result somewhere else.
  • A bulk import gets held back

Import thousands of contacts at once and the trigger suddenly returns a huge batch. Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of sending every row through 1Lookup.
  • The same lead is not checked twice

On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen. So the same item never starts the Zap twice.

FAQ

1Lookup on Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the 1Lookup Zapier integration free?
Yes, on the Zapier side it works from the free plan, because 1Lookup is not a premium app. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap is limited to two steps: one trigger and one action. So a Zap where a form entry triggers a single Validate Email check stays free. As soon as you chain two 1Lookup actions, or add a filter to act on the verdict, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid Zapier plan.
02How many tasks does a 1Lookup Zap use?
One task per 1Lookup action that completes successfully. The trigger costs nothing, and Zapier checking the trigger app for new data costs nothing either, however often it checks. A Zap that runs Validate Email and then Validate Phone uses two tasks on each run. An action that fails is not counted against your plan. Keep in mind that a few apps and a few actions on Zapier take more than one task when they complete, so the one-task rule is the usual case, not a promise.
03Does 1Lookup run in real time on Zapier?
It depends entirely on the app that starts the Zap, because 1Lookup has no trigger. If that app offers an instant trigger, it reports the event to Zapier the moment it happens and the 1Lookup check runs straight away, whatever your plan. If the trigger is a polling one, Zapier checks for new items at a fixed interval: 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. A Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt in the editor, which is the quickest way to tell.
04What does it take to connect 1Lookup to Zapier?
A 1Lookup account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. From the Apps page of your Zapier account, click + Add connection, search for 1Lookup, click Add connection, sign in to 1Lookup in the tab that opens, then grant Zapier access. The connection is then reused by every Zap step that calls 1Lookup. Test each step once after connecting to see what 1Lookup sends back.
05Why does Append Email or Append Phone keep failing?
Usually because one of the five mandatory fields is empty. Both actions need first name, last name, street address, city and ZIP code before they run. Many web forms collect a name and an email but no postal address, and then the step has nothing to work with. Check the test data from your trigger: if any of these five values is missing, either collect it upstream or pick another action, such as Look Up Contact by Email, which only needs an address. A failed action at least costs no task.
06What if the 1Lookup action you need is not on Zapier?
The integration has 11 actions, no trigger and no search. If the operation you have in mind is not among those 11, Zapier cannot offer it for 1Lookup. In practice, check whether one of the existing actions covers the need from another angle: the lookups work from an email, a phone number or an IP address, the append actions from a name and address. Otherwise, the job has to happen outside this integration.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for 1Lookup?
It comes down to criteria, not a winner. Zapier makes sense if you want a guided editor and simple Zaps where one event leads to one or two 1Lookup checks, keeping in mind that every successful action is a billed task. If your scenario checks large volumes, branches a lot on each verdict, the other two deserve a look. Compare how each one bills a run and which 1Lookup operations it exposes before deciding.
