Action Network Zapier integrationAutomate Action Network with Zapier.
The Action Network Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers, 4 actions and 1 search. It writes into Action Network: signatures, RSVPs, sign-ups and donations arriving from other tools. It never starts a Zap on its own, so another app has to.

What the Action Network Zapier integration does for an organizing team
Zapier is a tool that links apps together without code. The Action Network Zapier integration lets Zapier push people into Action Network: it marks someone as having signed a petition, answered an event, joined a list or given to a fundraiser, using data that arrived somewhere else first.
Three outcomes cover most of what organizers build with it.
Signatures collected offline land in the right petition. A clipboard sheet typed into a spreadsheet, or a form on a partner site, feeds Sign Petition, so the signer counts on the petition you already run in Action Network.
Event replies stop living in two places. When people answer through a separate booking or form tool, RSVP for Event records them on the matching Action Network event, and the autoresponse you set there can go out.
Donations taken elsewhere show up on a fundraising page. Donate to Fundraiser logs a gift against a page, and Find or Create Fundraising Page makes sure that page exists first.
What Zapier does not do here: it cannot react to anything happening inside Action Network. There is no trigger, so a new signer or a new subscriber in Action Network will never start a Zap. Everything flows in one direction, into Action Network.
If the team is weighing other platforms for this, the n8n vs Zapier comparison lays out the criteria side by side.
The Zapier words in one minute
Seven words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one starting event, then one or more steps that run each time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier sits and waits for it. Action Network offers none.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or records something for you, here inside Action Network.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action that finished successfully. Your plan allowance is a count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something already stored in an app, so the following steps can reuse what it found.
What an Action Network Zap really costs
Zapier bills tasks, and only actions that go through count.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
- Free plan Zap size2 steps: one trigger, one action
- Premium appNo, available on the free plan
- BilledEach action that succeeds
The trigger from the other app never costs a task, and neither does Zapier checking for new data. Each Action Network action that succeeds counts once; one that fails is not billed. Action Network is not a premium app, so the free plan can use it, within two steps: one trigger, one action. Add the fundraising-page search before a donation and you have a multi-step Zap (any Zap past one trigger and one action), which needs a paid plan.
Connect Action Network to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account, then click + Add connection. A connection is your Action Network account linked once, then reused by every step that touches it.
- 02
Pick Action Network
Type Action Network in the search box of the dialog, select it in the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab then opens so you can sign in.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log into Action Network in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. Use an account that can see the petitions, events and forms the Zap will write into, not only the ones you created.
Your first Zap: offline petition signatures into Action Network
GoalEvery new row of a sign-up sheet becomes a signature on your Action Network petition.
- 01
Start from the other app
Create a Zap and pick the app where signatures arrive first as the trigger. Action Network cannot start a Zap, so the first card always belongs to another tool.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from that app, so you map fields on a real signer rather than a blank one.
- 03
Add a filter if rows can be empty
A filter that only lets rows with an email through avoids failed steps. On the free plan skip it: it turns the Zap into a multi-step one.
- 04
Add Sign Petition
Choose Action Network, then
Sign Petition. Pick the petition you created there, map the email field, and decide whether the autoresponse goes out. - 05
Test, then publish
Test the action once and check that the signer appears on the petition in Action Network. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on.
The 4 Action Network actions
Action Network gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Donate to Fundraiser
ActionIn Zapier“Indicates a donation to a fundraising page”
Logs a donation against a fundraising page, with the donor email, the recipient name and the amount.
Find or Create Fundraising Page placed before this step.RSVP for Event
ActionIn Zapier“Indicates a person has RSVP'd for an event.”
Marks someone as attending an event you created on Action Network, so your attendee list stays in one place.
Sign Petition
ActionIn Zapier“Indicates a person has signed a petition”
Records a person as a signer of a petition you already run on Action Network, keyed on their email address.
Subscribe Person
ActionIn Zapier“Subscribes a person to an email list.”
Adds someone to your Action Network email list, optionally tied to a form action you already built there to hold sign-ups.
The Action Network search
1 search step looks for data that already exists in Action Network, so a later step can use it.
A search step sits under its own SEARCH heading at the bottom of the Action event list. Three settings decide what happens when the result is not a clean single match.
Find or Create Fundraising Page
SearchFind or createIn Zapier“Searches for fundraising pages”
Looks up a fundraising page by its title so the donation step that follows can attach a gift to it.
Donate to Fundraiser, which only accepts pages created over the API or through Zapier. The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap and the steps depending on it are skipped. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
- Create X if it doesn't exist yet?Ticking it turns the search into find-or-create: the setting above disappears and Zapier asks for what it needs to create the missing item.
- If multiple search results are found?Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one (the default), stop the Zap, or pass all of them on at once.
When an Action Network Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to Action Network, so the known failure points are the general ones, and they bite hard on a write-only app.
Four cases come up again and again. When one of them hits, the Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the fix.
Past signers are not imported
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Rows or form entries that already existed are never picked up; moving that backlog is a separate job.A Zap that feeds itself
If the trigger app also receives what the Zap writes, each run can set the next one off. The loop repeats and burns through your task count fast.A bulk import gets held back
When the trigger app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those items back instead of running them all.The same person twice
On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers every item it has already seen. That memory is why one signer does not start the Zap twice, even when the next check returns them again.
