Overview

What the Acumbamail Zapier integration actually does

Acumbamail is an email marketing tool built around subscriber lists, templates and campaigns, with SMS on the side. Linking it to Zapier means its list events (an open, a click, a sign-up, an unsubscribe) can start work in other places, and other apps can write into Acumbamail without anyone copying addresses by hand.

A clean suppression list. An online shop runs one newsletter list and one promo list. When someone leaves the newsletter, New Unsubscriber fires and Delete Subscriber takes the same address off the promo list, so nobody gets mail they just refused.

A text message for a sales lead. A B2B software reseller watches Link Clicked on its pricing email. A click starts a Zap that alerts the account manager in another tool. For a short reminder to a known number, Send SMS covers it, with the sender name and country prefix the action demands.

A list per event, without the clicking. An events agency creates a new audience for every conference. Create Subscriber List opens the list from a form or a spreadsheet row, and Duplicate Template copies last year's email design under a new name, ready for Send Campaign.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no search step for Acumbamail, so a Zap cannot look up whether an address already sits on a list before acting. The closest thing is the update switch inside Add/Update Subscriber. Nothing on the page covers reports, bounces or campaign statistics either.

If you are weighing other tools for the same job, the n8n vs Zapier and Make vs Zapier comparisons lay out the criteria side by side.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap, such as a new Acumbamail subscriber. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or removes something for you, like adding an address to a list.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those, nothing else.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment the event happens.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets a condition you set, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Connection
Your Acumbamail account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step in every Zap that touches Acumbamail.
Cost

What it really costs in tasks

Acumbamail is not a premium app, so it works from the free plan. The bill is counted in tasks, and only finished actions count.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Premium appNo, available on the free plan
  • Instant triggers4 of 4, no polling interval applies
  • Multi-step ZapA filter or a second action needs a paid plan

The trigger never costs a task, and an action that fails is not counted either. Every action that succeeds is billed on its own, so a Zap with three actions eats three times what a one-action Zap does. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only Zaps of two steps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and it becomes a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid matters little here, since all four Acumbamail triggers are instant.

Connect

Connect your Acumbamail account

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need an Acumbamail account, plus access to any list you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Pick Acumbamail

Type Acumbamail in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new browser tab then opens on the Acumbamail side, ready for the sign-in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log in to Acumbamail in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection then shows up in your Apps page, and every Zap that uses Acumbamail can reuse it.

First Zap

Your first Zap: keep the promo list in sync with unsubscribes

GoalWhen someone unsubscribes from the newsletter list, remove them from the promo list and park their address on a former readers list.

  1. 01

    Build: choose the trigger

Create a Zap, pick Acumbamail as the app and New Unsubscriber as the event. Select your connection, then the newsletter list in the Subscriber List field.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent unsubscribes on that list, so you map the next steps on a real address rather than a made-up one.

  3. 03

    Add Delete Subscriber

Add an Acumbamail action, Delete Subscriber. Pick the promo list, and map the address from the trigger into the Email field.

  4. 04

    Add Add/Update Subscriber

Add a third step with Add/Update Subscriber on a separate former readers list. Leave Double Optin and Welcome Email off: this list is for your records, not for mailing.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each action once and check Acumbamail. Then click Publish. With two actions this is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan and bills two tasks per unsubscribe.

Triggers

Acumbamail triggers

4 events start a Zap when something happens in Acumbamail, and 4 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Campaign Opened

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when list subscriber opens an email from an email marketing campaign.”

Starts the Zap each time a subscriber on a chosen list opens an email from one of your Acumbamail campaigns. It is the signal that someone actually read the message, which is the earliest sign of interest the integration gives you.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
moving engaged readers into a warmer list, or logging opens in a sales tool so a rep knows who looked at the last offer.
Watch out
you pick the list when setting the trigger, so opens from subscribers on other lists never reach this Zap.
3

New Subscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new subscriber enters a list”

Runs as soon as a new address joins the list you selected, whether it came from a signup form or was added by hand. It is the natural starting point for anything you want to happen after someone opts in.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
copying each new signup into a CRM or a spreadsheet, so marketing and sales see the same contact list.
Watch out
a Zap that adds subscribers back into this same list will set itself off again, so always write to a different list.
4

New Unsubscriber

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a subscriber unregisters from a list”

Triggers when someone leaves a subscriber list. That is the moment other tools need to hear about it, before they keep mailing or calling a person who has just said no.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
flagging the contact in your CRM, or removing the same address from your other Acumbamail lists so opt-outs are respected everywhere.
Watch out
this trigger asks for the Subscriber List up front, and it only reports departures from that one list.
Actions

Acumbamail actions

Acumbamail gives you 7 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add/Update Subscriber

Action

In Zapier“Adds a new subscriber to a subscriber list of your choosing. Can be used to update an existing subscriber too.”

Puts an address on the list you pick, and can refresh the details of someone already there if you switch on the update option.

When to use it
a lead fills in a form in another app and should join your newsletter without a manual export.
Watch out
Double Optin sends a confirmation email and Welcome Email sends the list greeting, so decide on both before publishing.
2

Create Subscriber List

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new subscriber list.”

Opens a new list in Acumbamail from data arriving in the Zap, for instance one list per webinar or per client.

When to use it
a new event row lands in your planning sheet and you want its audience ready before the invitations go out.
Watch out
the list needs a name and a sender email, the address subscribers will see on every campaign sent to it.
3

Delete Subscriber List

Action

In Zapier“Deletes a Subscriber List”

Removes a whole subscriber list from Acumbamail, the list being the only field it asks for.

When to use it
temporary lists built for one event that should disappear once the project is archived elsewhere.
Watch out
this is the heaviest action of the set, so put it behind a filter on a paid plan rather than letting any trigger reach it.
4

Delete Subscriber

Action

In Zapier“Unsubscribes an email address from a subscriber list of your choosing.”

Unsubscribes one email address from a list you choose, without touching the other lists that address belongs to.

When to use it
a customer asks your support desk to stop promotions and the ticket tool should clean Acumbamail on its own.
Watch out
it needs both the email and the list, so a Zap that only carries a name cannot run this step.
5

Duplicate Template

Action

In Zapier“Duplicates an existing template to use it on a email marketing campaign shipping.”

Copies an existing Acumbamail template under a new name, so a fresh campaign can start from a design you already trust.

When to use it
a monthly newsletter that always reuses the same layout, with the copy renamed for the current issue.
Watch out
both the origin template and the new name are required, and the source template has to exist in the account first.
6

Send SMS

Action

In Zapier“Sends a SMS to a telephone number of your choosing.”

Sends a text message from Acumbamail to any phone number the Zap hands it.

When to use it
a short appointment reminder, or a heads-up to a sales rep when a hot lead shows up.
Watch out
the sender name allows no spaces and 11 characters at most, the number needs its country prefix, and past 160 characters each extra 153 costs one more credit (70 and 67 with accents).
7

Send Campaign

Action

In Zapier“Creates and sends an email marketing campaign using a certain template from the platform.”

Builds an email campaign from a template stored in Acumbamail and sends it to one or several lists in a single step.

When to use it
a product goes live in your catalogue tool and the announcement should go out to the matching lists straight away.
Watch out
it asks for a campaign name, sender name, sender email, subject, template and at least one list, so a missing value stops the step.
When it breaks

When the Acumbamail Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Acumbamail, so the traps below are the general ones that hit any list-based Zap, plus the SMS rules spelled out in the action itself.

Most failures come from the Zap doing exactly what it was told. If one keeps misbehaving, the Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the usual suspects.

  • Old subscribers are ignored

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Addresses already on the list are never picked up, so moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • The Zap that feeds itself

New Subscriber on a list plus Add/Update Subscriber on that same list restarts the Zap with every run and burns through your task count fast.
  • A bulk import gets held back

Importing thousands of contacts at once can produce a sudden flood of events, and Zapier's flood protection may hold that batch back instead of running it.
  • SMS longer than you think

Above 160 characters, each extra 153 costs one more credit. With accents the thresholds drop to 70 and 67, so a short French or Spanish text can bill double.

FAQ

Acumbamail Zapier integration: frequently asked questions

01Is the Acumbamail Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as your Zap stays at two steps. Acumbamail is not a premium app, so it works on the Zapier free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The catch is the shape of the Zap: the free plan only allows one trigger followed by one action. Adding a filter, a second action or any extra step turns it into a multi-step Zap, and that requires a paid plan.
02How many tasks does an Acumbamail Zap use?
One task per action that completes. The trigger itself is free, whether it is an open, a click, a signup or an unsubscribe, and so is the waiting. If your Zap removes an address from a list and then adds it to another, each successful run costs two tasks. An action that fails is not counted. On a busy newsletter list, a Link Clicked Zap can run far more often than you expect, so check the volume of clicks before picking a plan.
03Do Acumbamail triggers run in real time?
Yes, all four of them. Campaign Opened, Link Clicked, New Subscriber and New Unsubscriber are instant triggers: Acumbamail calls Zapier the moment the event happens, so the Zap starts straight away. The polling interval of your plan, 15 minutes on the free plan, does not apply to them. In the editor, a Zap built on one of these shows a lightning bolt. Only the actions you add afterwards decide how fast the rest of the work gets done.
04What does it take to connect Acumbamail to Zapier?
An Acumbamail account you can sign in to, and access to any list you want the Zap to read or change. In Zapier, open Apps, click + Add connection, search for Acumbamail, then click Add connection and log in through the tab that opens. Before building anything, make sure the account has at least one list, because every trigger asks for one. The connection is saved once and reused by all your Acumbamail Zaps afterwards.
05Why does an Acumbamail SMS cost more than one credit?
Because the message ran past the standard length. A plain text SMS holds 160 characters; above that, Acumbamail charges one extra credit for every additional 153 characters. With accents or other special characters, the standard size drops to 70, and each extra 67 costs another credit. The sender name is also strict: no spaces and 11 characters at most. Mapping a long product description into the message body is the classic way to triple the bill without noticing.
06What if the Acumbamail operation you need is not there?
Then the Zapier integration simply does not offer it. Acumbamail exposes 4 triggers and 7 actions on Zapier and no search step at all, so a Zap cannot look up a subscriber, read campaign statistics or check bounces. The usual workaround is to start from one of the existing triggers and let another app hold the extra logic. If a step truly has no equivalent, a Zapier agency or a direct request to Acumbamail are the remaining routes.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Acumbamail?
It depends on three criteria rather than on a winner. First, the operations: check that the event or action you want exists on the platform you pick. Second, cost model: Zapier bills each successful action as a task, and a two-step Zap fits the free plan. Third, control: a self-hosted tool suits teams that want to run their own servers, while Zapier suits teams that want nothing to maintain. Compare the list of operations before anything else.
