Verse Zapier integrationAutomate Verse with Zapier.

The Verse Zapier integration gives you 6 triggers, 5 actions and 1 search, and all six triggers are instant. A new, qualified or taken-over conversation can start a Zap the second it happens, and Zapier can create, update, qualify or close conversations in return.

Overview

What the Verse Zapier integration actually does

Verse runs text conversations with your leads and uses AI to sort the good ones from the rest. The Zapier integration plugs those conversations into your other tools: a change in Verse can start an automation, and an automation elsewhere can open, edit or close a Verse conversation without anyone touching the Verse screen.

A handoff alert. Conversation Taken Over fires when a conversation is taken over, so the rep who now owns it can hear about it in the tool they already watch, instead of finding out by chance.

A clean opt-out. When someone unsubscribes in another system, DNC (Opt-Out) ends their Verse conversation with the Stop Contact reason. The texts stop on both sides, not only in one tool.

A closed deal, flagged. When a deal is won elsewhere, Update Conversation can switch Conversation Converted to true, so Verse knows which chats ended in a sale.

What Zapier does not do for Verse: there is no action to delete a conversation, no find-or-create shortcut, and no way to pull in conversations that existed before the Zap was switched on. The only search, Find Conversation, looks up one conversation at a time. Before you pick a tool, the Make vs Zapier and n8n vs Zapier comparisons set the criteria side by side.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words show up on every Zapier screen. Here is what each one means, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier sits and waits for it, then hands over to the actions.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or changes something for you in an app such as Verse.
Task
The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action that your Zap completes successfully, and your plan counts those.
Instant vs polling trigger
An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer instead.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it there otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something that already exists in an app, so the next steps can reuse what it found.
Connection
Your Verse account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step of every Zap that talks to Verse.
Cost

What a Verse Zap really costs

Verse is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. The bill comes from tasks, and only actions make tasks.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • TriggerNever billed
  • Failed actionNot billed
  • Verse triggers6 instant, 0 polling

A trigger never costs a task, and neither does Zapier listening for new events. Each action that succeeds counts once, so a Zap with three actions uses three times more than a Zap with one. An action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and builds two-step Zaps only: one trigger, one action. Add a filter, a search or a second action and you have a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below only concerns polling triggers, and Verse has none.

Connect

Connect your Verse account in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Verse account first, plus access to any conversations you do not own yourself but want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

Find Verse and start the link

Type Verse in the search box of the dialog, pick it from the list, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens on the Verse side, where the rest happens.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

Log in to Verse in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account you want to automate. The connection is saved once and every Verse step of every Zap reuses it.

First Zap

Your first Verse Zap

GoalWhen a conversation is unqualified and matches a condition you choose, mark that customer as do-not-contact in Verse.

  1. 01

    Build the trigger

Create a Zap, pick Verse as the app and New Unqualified Conversation as the event, then choose the Verse connection saved earlier.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of your account, so you set up the next steps on a real conversation, not an empty one.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter, then pick a field, a rule and a value. Use a text rule on text: a mismatched rule is why filters never pass.

  4. 04

    Add DNC (Opt-Out)

Add Verse again with the DNC (Opt-Out) event. Choose the key in Search By and map the matching value from the trigger into Search Value.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each step and read what came back. Then click Publish. With a filter this is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

Triggers

Verse triggers: 6 instant events

6 events start a Zap when something happens in Verse, and 6 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Conversation Activity

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Trigger when a new activity on a conversation is added.”

Every time something new is added to a conversation, this trigger starts your Zap. It is the widest of the six: it catches movement inside conversations that already exist, not only new ones.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
keep a running log of what happens in each conversation in a sheet or a database your team reads.
Watch out
busy conversations produce many events, and every action that follows costs a task each time.
2

New Conversation Created

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Trigger when a conversation has been created.”

A conversation appears in Verse, and the Zap runs. This is the starting gun of the funnel, before any qualification has happened.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
count new conversations per day in a report, or tell the owner of a campaign that it is producing chats.
Watch out
if the same Zap uses Create Conversation, each created conversation fires this trigger again, and you get a loop that eats tasks.
3

New Qualified Conversation

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Trigger when a conversation has been qualified.”

Here the Zap waits for the outcome everyone cares about: a conversation that Verse marks as qualified. Zapier highlights this trigger on the app page.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
push qualified leads into your sales pipeline, so a rep calls them while the chat is still fresh.
Watch out
only qualifications that happen after the Zap is published come through; past ones stay in Verse.
4

Conversation Taken Over

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Trigger when a conversation has been taken over.”

When a conversation gets taken over, this event goes off. It marks the moment a conversation leaves its automatic flow and needs someone to own it.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
ping your sales channel so nobody leaves a taken-over lead waiting for an answer.
Watch out
it fires on the takeover itself, not when the person in charge changes later; that is the job of Conversation Assigned.
5

Conversation Assigned

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Trigger when the assignee of a taken-over conversation changes, including when it is unassigned.”

Reassignments are what this one tracks: it runs when the assignee of a taken-over conversation changes, and also when the conversation is left without an assignee.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
notify the new owner of a lead directly, or log every handover to measure workload per rep.
Watch out
an unassignment fires it too, so add a filter if the Zap should only react to a real new owner.
6

New Unqualified Conversation

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Trigger when a conversation has been unqualified.”

The mirror image of the qualified trigger: the Zap starts when a conversation is marked as unqualified in Verse.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan
When to use it
move dead leads out of the active pipeline, or put them on a slower nurture list elsewhere.
Watch out
unqualified does not mean opted out; if the person asked to stop, use DNC (Opt-Out) as well.
Actions

Verse actions

Verse gives you 5 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

End Conversation (Qualify)

Action

In Zapier“End and qualify a conversation.”

Closes a conversation and qualifies it in the same move.

When to use it
a lead books a meeting through another tool, so the Verse chat can stop and count as a win.
Watch out
a Zap listening to New Qualified Conversation will fire on the result, which is useful or a loop depending on your setup.
2

Create Conversation

Action

In Zapier“Create a new conversation.”

Opens a brand new conversation in Verse from another tool, which Zapier features on the app page.

When to use it
a lead fills in a web form and Verse starts texting them without anyone copying the details by hand.
Watch out
paired with New Conversation Created in one Zap, it sets itself off again and again.
3

DNC (Opt-Out)

Action

In Zapier“End a Conversation with the reason of "Stop Contact".”

Ends a conversation with the Stop Contact reason, the do-not-contact flag of Verse.

When to use it
a customer unsubscribes in your email tool and you want the texts to stop too.
Watch out
Search By and Search Value are both required: the first is the key that identifies the customer, the second its value.
4

Stop Conversation (Unqualify)

Action

In Zapier“Stop and unqualify a conversation.”

Halts a conversation and marks it unqualified.

When to use it
your team learns elsewhere that a lead is not a fit and wants Verse to stop texting them.
Watch out
this is not an opt-out; for someone who asked to never be contacted again, DNC (Opt-Out) is the right step.
5

Update Conversation

Action

In Zapier“Update an existing conversation.”

Changes a conversation that already exists. Among its settings, Conversation Converted is set to true when the conversation turned into a sale.

When to use it
a deal is marked won in your CRM and Verse gets the news.
Watch out
the step needs to know which conversation to edit, so a Find Conversation step often comes first.
Searches

The Verse search

1 search step looks for data that already exists in Verse, so a later step can use it.

A search step finds a conversation that already exists, so a later step can act on it. In the editor, searches sit at the bottom of the Action event list, under SEARCH. Three settings decide what happens when the result is not a clean single match.

1

Find Conversation

Search

In Zapier“Search for a conversation by name, email, phone, conversation ID, or external ID.”

Looks up one conversation using its name, email, phone, conversation ID or external ID, and hands it to the next steps.

When to use it
before Update Conversation, to locate the chat that matches the email in your CRM record.
Watch out
whether it needs the exact value or accepts something close is decided by Verse, so test with real data.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap and skips the steps that depended on it. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
This box turns a search into a find-or-create. Verse offers no such variant on Zapier, so the box is not available here.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three exits when several conversations match: keep the first, which is the default, stop the Zap, or pass all of them on.
When it breaks

When a Verse Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Verse and lists no Verse-specific limit. What breaks here are the general Zapier rules.

Four cases cover most surprises. If a Zap still misbehaves after these, the Zapier troubleshooting page walks through the next checks.

  • Old conversations never show up

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Conversations created or qualified before that stay in Verse; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps firing itself

Create Conversation in a Zap started by New Conversation Created writes exactly where the trigger watches. Each run fires the next, and the task count drains fast.
  • A big import gets held back

After a bulk import, a trigger that suddenly returns a huge batch can be paused by Zapier's flood protection.
  • The search finds nothing

By default an empty Find Conversation stops the Zap at that step and the update after it never runs. Turn on the empty-result setting if that is fine.

FAQ

Verse and Zapier: common questions

01Is the Verse Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as your Zap stays at two steps. Verse is not a premium app, so the free plan can connect it, with 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The catch is the structure: a free Zap is one trigger and one action, nothing more. The moment you add a filter, a Find Conversation search or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. Most real Verse setups, such as finding the right conversation before updating it, cross that line quickly.
02How many tasks does a Verse Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and nothing else. A Verse trigger firing costs nothing, even if it fires many times a day, because Zapier only bills completed actions. A Zap that takes a qualified conversation and sends it to two other tools uses two tasks per conversation. An action that fails is not counted. Watch New Conversation Activity in particular: it can fire often on lively conversations, and each run multiplies the actions behind it.
03Is the Verse integration real time?
Yes. All six Verse triggers are instant: Verse tells Zapier the moment the event happens, so the Zap starts right away. The plan interval grid, 15 minutes on the free plan, concerns polling triggers only, and Verse has none. A free-plan Zap built on New Qualified Conversation runs as fast as one on a paid plan. In the editor, an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt, which is a quick way to check.
04What do you need to connect Verse to Zapier?
An active Verse account, and access to any conversation you do not own but want the Zap to touch. In Zapier you go to Apps, click + Add connection, search for Verse, then sign in to Verse in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. The connection is saved once. Every Verse step of every Zap reuses it, so there is nothing to enter again when you build a second automation.
05What is the difference between DNC (Opt-Out) and Stop Conversation (Unqualify)?
DNC (Opt-Out) ends the conversation with the Stop Contact reason, which is how Verse records that a person must not be contacted. Stop Conversation (Unqualify) halts the chat and marks the lead unqualified, which says nothing about consent. Use the first when someone unsubscribes or asks to stop, and the second when a lead simply is not a fit. DNC (Opt-Out) also needs two fields, Search By and Search Value, to find the customer.
06What if the Verse operation you need is not on Zapier?
Then Zapier cannot do it directly, because the list on this page is everything Verse publishes there: 6 triggers, 5 actions and 1 search. There is no delete action and no find-or-create. You can sometimes get close by chaining what exists, for example Find Conversation then Update Conversation. If that still falls short, the gap sits in the Verse integration itself, and the next step is to check what other automation tools or the Verse team offer.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Verse?
It depends on your criteria, not on a single winner. Zapier offers Verse with instant triggers and a short setup, which suits teams that want to start without technical help. If you care more about price per run, complex branching or hosting the tool yourself, compare how Make and n8n handle those points. Check first whether the Verse operations you need exist on each platform, since this page only covers what Zapier exposes.
