Overview

What the Baremetrics Zapier integration is really for

Baremetrics gives SaaS companies their revenue metrics, forecasts and engagement tools. Plugging it into Zapier lets a Zap, an automation that runs on its own, push records into Baremetrics whenever something happens in another tool. Baremetrics only receives: it has no trigger of its own here.

Most Baremetrics Zaps aim at one of three results. A customer list that stays complete: Create Customer adds each new buyer the moment your sales or billing tool records one. A price catalogue that matches reality: Create Plan writes a plan with its currency, amount and billing rhythm. A subscription history your metrics can trust: Create Subscription ties a customer to a plan from a start date.

A fourth action, Augment Customer, adds data to a customer that already exists. Think of it as enrichment rather than creation.

Now what Zapier does not do for Baremetrics. It cannot start a Zap from Baremetrics, so you will never react to a churn or an upgrade seen there. It cannot look up a customer or a plan either, since there is no search step. And it cannot update or delete a plan or a subscription: every action writes something new.

The consequence is simple. Baremetrics sits at the end of a Zap, never at the start. Before choosing a platform for it, read our Make vs Zapier comparison and our Zapier review.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, explained in a minute

Seven terms carry this page. Here they are, without jargon.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Baremetrics has none, so the trigger always comes from another tool.
Action
What the Zap does once started: the step that writes or sends something. All 4 Baremetrics operations are actions.
Task
What Zapier bills you for. One task equals one action your Zap completes successfully, and plans count those.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant one is reported by its app at once, with no wait.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your rule, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap with more than one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Baremetrics Zap really costs

Baremetrics is not a premium app, so it runs from the free plan. You pay in tasks, and only successful actions count.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Zap length on FreeOne trigger and one action
  • Premium appNo, Baremetrics works on Free
  • Trigger costZero, whatever the app that starts it

The trigger in the other app never costs a task. Each Create Customer, Create Plan, Create Subscription or Augment Customer that goes through costs one; a failed one costs nothing. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps. That matters here: creating a customer and then its subscription is two actions, so that Zap needs a paid plan. The interval grid below only matters for the trigger of the other app.

Connect

Connect Baremetrics to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open Apps

In Zapier, open Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Baremetrics account linked once, then reused by every Zap step that writes to it.

  2. 02

    Pick Baremetrics

Search for Baremetrics in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A new browser tab opens so you can sign in on the Baremetrics side with your usual login.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to Baremetrics in that tab and grant Zapier access. You need your own account, plus write access to any data you do not own but want the Zap to change.

First Zap

Your first Zap: a new customer and their subscription, written for you

GoalWhen your billing tool records a new customer, create that customer in Baremetrics, then attach a subscription to an existing plan.

  1. 01

    Build the start

Create a Zap and pick the app where your customers appear first, with its new-customer event. Baremetrics cannot fill this slot, since it has no trigger.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from that account, so you map fields on a real customer rather than a made-up one.

  3. 03

    Add Create Customer

Add a Baremetrics action, choose Create Customer and fill the OID with an identifier from the trigger. Keep that identifier: the next step reuses it.

  4. 04

    Add Create Subscription

Add Create Subscription. Map the customer OID from the step above, enter a plan OID that exists, and a start date as a Unix timestamp. This makes the Zap multi-step.

  5. 05

    Test and publish

Test each action, check the customer and the subscription in Baremetrics, then click Publish. Every new customer then costs two tasks: one record, one subscription.

Actions

Baremetrics actions

Baremetrics gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Customer

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new Customer.”

Adds a fresh customer record to Baremetrics from whatever the trigger brought in. It is usually the first Baremetrics step of any Zap.

When to use it
a deal closes in your CRM and the buyer should show up in your revenue metrics without anyone typing it.
Watch out
the OID is required, and later steps need that same value to find this customer again.
2

Create Plan

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new Plan.”

Writes a new pricing plan, with a name, a currency, an amount and a billing rhythm built from an interval and a count.

When to use it
your team launches a new offer in the billing tool and Baremetrics should know it before the first subscriber.
Watch out
the amount goes in cents, so 100 means one unit of currency; an interval of day with a count of 30 makes a 30-day plan.
3

Create Subscription

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new Subscription.”

Links an existing customer to an existing plan from a given start date.

When to use it
right after Create Customer in the same Zap, once someone pays for the first time.
Watch out
the start date must be a Unix timestamp, a plain number of seconds; a date written out in words or digits will not do.
4

Augment Customer

Action

In Zapier“Augments a customer with data.”

Adds extra data to a customer Baremetrics already knows.

When to use it
a form or a survey tells you something new about an existing account and you want it next to their metrics.
Watch out
the customer must exist first, so run it in a Zap where Create Customer has already done its job.
When it breaks

When a Baremetrics Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Baremetrics. The cases below are Zapier's general limits, seen through this app.

Most of them stay silent at setup and surface later, as a metric that looks wrong or a task count that ran out early.

  • Past customers never arrive

Switching the Zap on does not replay history. Customers and subscriptions your billing tool held before that day stay out of Baremetrics until you import them another way.
  • A loop eats your tasks

Baremetrics cannot start a Zap, so it cannot loop on its own. The risk comes back if you add a step that writes into the app holding the trigger: each write restarts the Zap.
  • A bulk import gets throttled

Moving your customer base into the source app at once can make its trigger return a huge batch, and Zapier's flood protection may hold it, so Baremetrics fills in late.
  • The same customer is not sent twice

On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers what it has already seen. Editing an existing customer in the source app will not create it again in Baremetrics.

FAQ

Baremetrics Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Baremetrics Zapier integration free?
Yes, Baremetrics is not a premium app, so it works on the free Zapier plan. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but every Zap is capped at two steps: one trigger and one action. Creating a customer and then a subscription in the same Zap means two actions, which makes it a multi-step Zap and requires a paid plan. What Baremetrics charges for its own product is outside the scope of this page.
02How many tasks does a Baremetrics Zap use?
Count the Baremetrics records each run writes: that is the bill, since the trigger in the other app is free. Create Customer alone is one task per new buyer. Customer plus subscription is two per buyer, and only on a paid plan. A plan created by Create Plan is one task each time. Writes that fail are not counted, and Zapier polling the source app for new data costs nothing, however often it looks. Volume of new customers is what drives the count.
03Does Baremetrics on Zapier work in real time?
That depends entirely on the app that starts the Zap, because Baremetrics has no trigger of its own. If that app offers an instant trigger, it tells Zapier at once and Baremetrics is updated straight away, on any plan. If its trigger is a polling one, Zapier checks it every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 minutes on Professional and every minute on Team and Enterprise. Check the trigger of the source app before promising anyone live numbers.
04What do you need to connect a Baremetrics account?
A Baremetrics account you can sign in to, plus write access to any data you do not own but want the Zap to change. The connection takes three moves: open Apps in Zapier and click + Add connection, search for Baremetrics and confirm, then sign in and grant access in the tab that opens. Before your first Zap, create at least one plan in Baremetrics, since Create Subscription needs a plan OID that already exists.
05Why does Create Plan show the wrong price in Baremetrics?
Usually because the amount was typed in units instead of cents. Create Plan expects cents, so 100 stands for one unit of the chosen currency, and typing the plain price makes the plan a hundred times cheaper. The billing rhythm hides a second trap: the interval says day, month or year, and the interval count multiplies it, so day with 30 means a 30-day plan. Check both fields on a test run before you publish.
06What if the Baremetrics operation you need is not on Zapier?
Then the Zapier integration cannot cover it today. All 4 operations create or enrich: a customer, a plan, a subscription, extra customer data. There are 0 triggers, no search step and nothing to update or delete a plan or a subscription, so corrections such as a plan change stay a manual job in Baremetrics. Another automation platform may cover the missing operation, which is worth checking before you build. Nothing extra hides behind the editor: what it lists is all there is.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Baremetrics?
There is no single winner, only criteria. Zapier is the fastest to learn and covers the four creation actions, but chaining two of them needs a paid plan. Make shows the whole flow as a diagram, which helps when one customer event has to feed several Baremetrics records. n8n fits teams willing to host the tool themselves in exchange for more control and more setup. Choose on budget, on the volume of records, and on how much configuration you accept.
