Google Slides Zapier integrationAutomate Google Slides with Zapier.
The Google Slides Zapier integration gives you 1 trigger, 3 actions and 1 search. Enough to spot new decks, build a filled-in presentation from a template and refresh the charts that pull from your sheets, without opening the file.

What the Google Slides Zapier integration actually does for you
The Google Slides Zapier integration links your Google account to Zapier so that presentations get created, found or refreshed for you. A new deck can start an automation, and an automation can produce a deck from a template you designed once. Five operations in total, all available on the free plan.
Three results come back again and again. First, personalized decks on demand: Create Presentation From Template copies a model and swaps placeholders like {{name}} or {{email}} for real values, so a proposal or an onboarding deck arrives already filled in. Second, charts that stay current: Refresh Charts updates every chart in a deck that is linked to Google Sheets, so the deck shows what the sheet holds when you open it. Third, a reaction to new decks: New Presentation notices a file created in the account, and Find Presentation picks up an existing one so a later step can work on it.
Now the part the app page skips. There is no action to add a slide, edit text in an existing deck, share a file with a named person or delete anything. The only way past that list is API Request (Beta), which is a technical step. And the only trigger works by polling (Zapier checks on a timer), so nothing happens the second a deck is created.
If you are weighing tools, the same app is covered on our Google Slides Make integration page and on the n8n one, and our Zapier review gives the wider picture before you commit.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words cover everything on this page. Each one is used exactly as defined here.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that creates, refreshes or sends something on your behalf.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task is one action that completed successfully, and your plan is a monthly count of those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked by Zapier on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app itself the moment it happens.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Search step
- A step that looks up something that already exists in an app, so the steps after it can reuse what it found.
What a Google Slides Zap really costs
Google Slides is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. What you spend depends on actions, never on checks.
- Premium appNo, available on the free plan
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
- What countsEach successful action, one task each
- What is freeThe trigger and every check Zapier runs
The trigger costs nothing, however often Zapier looks. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, and an action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but every Zap stops at two steps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter, a search or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which means a paid plan. A deck generated then refreshed is already two actions, so two tasks per run.
Connect Google Slides to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Google account linked once, then reused by every step that touches Google Slides.
- 02
Pick Google Slides
Type Google Slides in the search box of the dialog that appears, select it in the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Google sign-in screen.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in with the Google account that owns the decks, then allow Zapier to access it. Any presentation you do not own yourself needs read or write access shared with that account first.
Your first Zap: keep a master deck current
GoalA sales ops lead keeps one pipeline deck for the team review. Each time a teammate starts a new deck, Zapier finds the pipeline deck and refreshes its Sheets charts.
- 01
Create the Zap
From the Zapier editor, start a new Zap. Note that this one has a search plus an action, so it is multi-step and needs a paid plan.
- 02
Set the trigger
Choose Google Slides, then New Presentation, and select your connection. Testing it brings back the three most recent decks of the account, so you map fields on a real file.
- 03
Find the master deck
Add Find Presentation and point it at the pipeline deck. Decide what happens if nothing is found: by default the Zap stops at this step.
- 04
Refresh its charts
Add Refresh Charts and map the presentation that the search returned. Only charts linked to Google Sheets get updated; anything else in the deck stays as it is.
- 05
Test, then publish
Run each step once and read what came back before going further. When the charts look right, click Publish to switch the Zap on.
Google Slides triggers
1 event starts a Zap when something happens in Google Slides. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Presentation
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new presentation is created.”
This one fires when a deck is created in the connected Google account, and hands the new file to the next steps of the Zap so they can copy, refresh or log it.
Google Slides actions
Google Slides gives you 3 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Create Presentation From Template
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a new presentation based on an existing one and can replace any placeholder variables found in your template presentation, like {{name}}, {{email}}, etc.”
Copies a deck you designed and replaces its placeholders, written like {{name}}, with values coming from earlier steps. You get a ready, personalized presentation.
Refresh Charts
ActionIn Zapier“Refreshes the data for all charts in a presentation that have been linked to Google Sheets.”
Updates every chart in a chosen deck that is linked to Google Sheets.
API Request (Beta)
ActionIn Zapier“This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.”
An advanced step that sends a raw request to Google Slides with your existing connection. It is the exit door for anything the three ready-made operations do not cover.
Google Slides search
1 search step looks for data that already exists in Google Slides, so a later step can use it.
A search step sits in the action list under its own SEARCH heading. Three settings decide what it does when the result is not the expected one.
Find Presentation
SearchIn Zapier“Finds an existing presentation.”
Looks up a deck that already exists in the account and passes it to the steps that follow, so an action can work on a file the trigger never mentioned.
The three settings every search exposes
- Successful if no search results are found?Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there. Switched on, the Zap carries on with nothing in hand.
- Create X if it doesn't exist yet? This box turns a search into find-or-create. Google Slides offers no such variant, so you will not see it here.
- If multiple search results are found?Three exits: keep the first match, which is the default, stop the Zap, or pass all matches on at once.
When a Google Slides Zap breaks
Zapier's help centre has two Google Slides articles, both about getting started. Everything else comes from the general rules that apply to every Zap.
The brief list below covers four situations that follow from those general rules and from the template field. They are worth knowing before you publish. For a step-by-step method, our Zapier troubleshooting guide walks through the logs.
Old decks are ignored
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is published. Presentations created earlier are never picked up, and moving that backlog is a separate job.The Zap keeps restarting itself
A Zap that creates decks in the same account New Presentation watches will set itself off again and again, eating tasks fast.A batch of decks gets held back
After a bulk import or a migration, a sudden flood of new presentations can be held back by Zapier's flood protection instead of running one by one.Template set as a custom value
Create Presentation From Template wants a template chosen from the list. A custom value typed or mapped there is exactly what the field warns against.
