HEU Zapier integrationAutomate HEU with Zapier.
The HEU Zapier integration gives you 2 triggers, 1 action and 0 searches. It notices new documents and new templates in your HEU account, and it can produce a fresh document from a template, sent by email to the people you name, when another app asks.

What the HEU Zapier integration actually does
HEU manages contracts from draft to signature. Zapier is the glue between apps: you pick an event in one tool and Zapier runs a follow-up in another, without code. Linked together, HEU can announce its new contracts elsewhere, and other apps can ask HEU for a ready-made contract built on one of your templates.
Three outcomes cover most uses. A heads-up for the team: New Document spots each contract added in HEU and lets you post it in a chat tool or log it in a spreadsheet. A template register: New Template catches every model the legal side adds, so the list of approved templates lives in one place outside HEU too. A contract out the door: Create New Document From Template takes a template, names the document and emails it to a list of recipients, fired by a deal, a hire or a form in another app.
Now the limits, because they shape the plan. Neither trigger is instant: Zapier checks HEU on a timer, so a document may wait a few minutes before anything happens. There is no search, so a Zap can't look up an existing contract or template by name; the template ID has to come from an earlier step or be typed in. And there is no action to update, cancel or delete a document. Anything past creation stays in HEU.
If you're weighing tools, the HEU Make integration page covers the same app from the other side, and n8n vs Zapier lays out the criteria that separate those two platforms.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Seven words come back on every line of this page. Here they are in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build: one starting event, then one or more steps that run each time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event that starts a Zap, such as a new document in HEU. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- What the Zap does after it starts: the step that creates, sends or writes something for you in an app.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action that finished successfully; your plan counts those.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant one is pushed by the app the moment it happens. Both HEU triggers poll.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only if the incoming data meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Connection
- Your HEU account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step in every Zap that touches HEU.
What a HEU Zap really costs
HEU is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan. The bill depends on actions, not on checks.
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
- Trigger checksFree, never billed
- Failed actionNot counted
- Premium appNo, works on Free
The trigger never costs a task, however often Zapier looks at HEU. Each action that succeeds counts as one task, and a failed action counts nothing. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month but only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. On a polling trigger like both of HEU's, the plan also sets how often Zapier looks: the grid below gives the interval per plan.
Connect HEU to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. You need a HEU account already, with access to whatever documents and templates the Zap should touch.
- 02
Find HEU
Type HEU in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the HEU side, where you sign in with the account the Zap will act as.
- 03
Grant access
Allow Zapier into the account. The connection is saved once and offered again in every Zap that uses HEU, so you won't repeat this for the next automation.
Your first HEU Zap: flag new NDAs in Slack
GoalEach new HEU document whose name mentions NDA posts a message in a Slack channel.
- 01
Build the trigger
Create a Zap, pick HEU as the app and New Document as the event, then choose your HEU connection. Zapier will check the account on your plan's schedule.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent documents of the account, so you map the next steps on a real one and see which value holds the name.
- 03
Add the filter
From the plus icon, add Filter. Pick the name value you spotted in the test, a text rule like contains, and the word NDA. This makes the Zap multi-step: paid plan.
- 04
Add Slack
Add Slack with Send Channel Message, choose the channel and drop the document name into the text. On the free plan, skip the filter and keep just these two steps.
- 05
Test and publish
Test the Slack step, read what came back in the channel, then click Publish. Only documents added after this moment will reach Slack.
HEU triggers
2 events start a Zap when something happens in HEU. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.
New Document
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new document is added.”
Starts your Zap every time a contract or other document appears in your HEU account, and hands its details to the next steps so another app can react without anyone copying them across.
New Template
Polling triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new template is added.”
Fires when someone adds a contract model to HEU. This is the trigger for keeping track of your library of approved wording rather than the contracts made from it.
HEU actions
HEU gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create New Document From Template
ActionIn Zapier“Creates a document based on a template”
Copies one of your HEU templates into a new named document and emails it to a comma-separated list of recipients, with the subject and message you write.
When a HEU Zap breaks
Zapier links no help article to HEU and lists no app-specific limit, so the failures to expect are Zapier's general ones.
They show up in every polling integration, HEU included. For a step-by-step diagnosis, the Zapier troubleshooting page goes further.
Old contracts never arrive
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Documents and templates already in HEU stay out; moving that backlog is a separate job.A Zap that feeds itself
Trigger on New Document and create a document in the same HEU account, and each run produces a new trigger. The loop eats your task count fast.A bulk import stalls
If HEU suddenly returns a big batch of new items, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the Zap back instead of running it.No duplicate runs
Zapier remembers what it has already seen on a polling trigger, so the same document does not start the Zap twice, even across several checks.
