ListenFirst Zapier integrationAutomate ListenFirst with Zapier.

The ListenFirst Zapier integration gives you 2 triggers, 1 action and 0 searches. Two events can start a Zap when ListenFirst finishes something, and one action tags content from another app. Here is what each does, what it costs and where a first Zap trips.

Overview

Why plug ListenFirst into Zapier

The ListenFirst Zapier integration links your ListenFirst account to the other tools you work in. ListenFirst can start a Zap when a report completes or when a new data collection status appears, and a Zap can create content tags in ListenFirst from what another app sends.

Three results are worth building first. A heads-up when a report is ready: API Report Complete starts the Zap, and the next step posts to your team chat, so nobody keeps refreshing ListenFirst. A running log of collection: New Data Collection Status adds a row to a sheet each time a status appears, which gives you a history to read back. And tags applied from outside: Create Content Tags takes a content URL and a tag coming from a form or a sheet and writes the tag in ListenFirst.

What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. Both triggers work by polling, so nothing on this app is instant, and on the free plan a report can sit finished for a while before the Zap notices. There is no search either, so a Zap cannot look up an existing tag or report before acting. And a Zap ignores everything that happened before you switched it on: past reports never come through.

The free plan also stops at two steps. A report alert to one chat fits. Adding a filter, or sending the alert to a second place, needs a paid plan.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Seven words come back on this page. Each one, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. ListenFirst has two, both tied to reports and data collection.
Action
The step that does the work once the Zap has started, like posting a message or creating a tag in ListenFirst.
Task
What Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. Your plan's allowance is a count of those.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, keeping only what it has not seen yet. Both ListenFirst triggers work this way.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A filter, a search or a second action makes one, and it needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a ListenFirst Zap really costs

Zapier bills tasks, and a task is one action that succeeds. Neither ListenFirst trigger costs anything, however often Zapier polls them.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Free plan ZapsTwo steps: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, ListenFirst works on the free plan
  • Trigger costNever a task

A report alert sent to chat is one task. A tag created with Create Content Tags is one task. An action that fails is not counted. ListenFirst is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan, which gives 100 tasks a month but only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. Since both triggers poll, the grid below decides how soon a finished report or a new status reaches your Zap.

Connect

Connect your ListenFirst account

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In Zapier, go to the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. You need a ListenFirst account first, with access to the reports and content you want the Zap to touch.

  2. 02

    Find ListenFirst

Type ListenFirst in the search box of the dialog that opens, pick it from the results, then click Add connection. A new tab opens on the ListenFirst side for the sign-in.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Sign in to ListenFirst in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is saved once, then reused by every Zap step that calls ListenFirst.

First Zap

Your first ListenFirst Zap

GoalTell your team in chat each time Zapier finds that a ListenFirst report has completed.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap. With one trigger and one action, it fits the free plan. Keep in mind the trigger polls, so the alert follows the interval of your plan.

  2. 02

    Pick the trigger

Choose ListenFirst and the API Report Complete event, then select your ListenFirst connection. Nothing else is needed to start this trigger.

  3. 03

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items from the connected account, so you map fields on a real completed report.

  4. 04

    Add the chat message

Add your chat app as the action, choose the channel, and map the report details from the trigger into the message. Test the step once and read what arrives.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From now on, every report that completes reaches the chat, but past reports never do.

Triggers

ListenFirst triggers

2 events start a Zap when something happens in ListenFirst. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

API Report Complete

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an API Report completes.”

Starts your Zap once a report in ListenFirst has finished, so the next step can share it or file it without anyone watching the dashboard.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
when people wait on a report to start their own work and want a nudge in the tool they already have open, instead of checking ListenFirst again and again.
Watch out
only reports completed after you publish the Zap come through, so an older report never triggers it.
2

New Data Collection Status

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new Data Collection Status is created.”

Fires each time ListenFirst creates a new data collection status, which turns those status changes into something a Zap can record or pass on.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one
When to use it
to keep a running log of collection statuses in a sheet, so you can read back what happened without digging through ListenFirst.
Watch out
Zapier remembers the statuses it has already seen, so the same status never starts the Zap twice.
Actions

The ListenFirst action

ListenFirst gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Content Tags

Action

In Zapier“Creates new content tags.”

Writes a new tag on a piece of content in ListenFirst, using the content URL and the tag that an earlier step hands over.

When to use it
when the list of URLs to tag lives in a sheet or a form and you want ListenFirst to stay in step with it.
Watch out
both fields are required, so a row with no URL makes the step fail.
When it breaks

When a ListenFirst Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to ListenFirst, and no limit specific to the app is on record. What breaks is the way every Zap behaves.

These four cases apply to any Zap. Each one hits a ListenFirst flow in a particular way, so read them before you publish.

  • Past reports never come through

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Reports that completed earlier stay out of the flow, and moving them is a separate job.
  • A Zap that feeds itself

If a Zap writes into the very place its own trigger watches, each write sets it off again and the task count drains fast.
  • A sudden batch gets held back

When a trigger returns a huge batch at once, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those items back.
  • Statuses are not replayed

On a polling trigger, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same status or report does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

ListenFirst Zapier integration: your questions

01Is the ListenFirst Zapier integration free?
Yes, on Zapier's side. ListenFirst is not a premium app, so its two triggers and its action all run on the free plan, which includes 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The catch is the size of each Zap: the free plan builds two steps, one trigger and one action. A report alert sent to one chat fits. A filter, or a second action that also logs the report in a sheet, makes the Zap multi-step and needs a paid plan. Your ListenFirst subscription is a separate matter.
02How many Zapier tasks does a ListenFirst Zap use?
One per action that succeeds. API Report Complete and New Data Collection Status cost nothing, however often Zapier polls them, because a trigger is never billed. Each message, row or tag created after them is one task. Create Content Tags is one task per tag written. If an action fails, it is not counted against your plan. A Zap with two actions spends two tasks every time it runs, so a busy status trigger feeding several actions is where the count climbs.
03Are ListenFirst triggers real-time in Zapier?
No. Both ListenFirst triggers are polling triggers: Zapier checks ListenFirst at a fixed interval and keeps only what it has not seen before. How often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise. On paid plans the interval can be changed, and a check can be run by hand from the editor. The type comes from the app itself, so no setting in Zapier turns these into instant triggers.
04What does it take to connect ListenFirst to Zapier?
A ListenFirst account, with access to the reports and content the Zap should touch. Then open the Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, search for ListenFirst and click Add connection. Sign in to ListenFirst in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access. The connection is saved once and reused by every ListenFirst step. For Create Content Tags, also make sure the app that starts the Zap actually carries a content URL, since the action cannot run without one.
05Why does a ListenFirst report alert arrive late?
Because API Report Complete is a polling trigger. Zapier does not hear about the report when it finishes; it asks ListenFirst at the interval of your plan and picks up what is new. On the free plan that check happens every 15 minutes, so the alert can follow the report by up to that long. Moving to a paid plan shortens the interval, and on those plans you can also run a check by hand from the editor when you are waiting on a specific report.
06What if the ListenFirst operation you need is not in Zapier?
Then it is not offered there today. Zapier lists two ListenFirst triggers and one action, with no search: you can react to a completed report or a new data collection status, and you can create content tags. Looking up an existing tag or report before acting is not covered. The practical route is to let the ListenFirst trigger hand over what it has, then do the rest of the work in the apps that come after it in the Zap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for ListenFirst?
Pick on criteria, not on a ranking. First, coverage: Zapier offers two triggers and one action for ListenFirst, so check what the other tool lists before switching. Second, timing: both triggers poll on Zapier, and the delay follows your plan. Third, cost shape: any filter or second action is a multi-step Zap and needs a paid plan, which you can weigh against how the other tools count their runs. Fourth, where the rest of your reporting flow already lives.
