Overview

What the Mitti Zapier integration actually does

Mitti is a platform built by SafetyCulture to run inspections, log issues, manage follow-up work and train teams. The integration connects it to your other apps through Zapier: a finished inspection or a new action in Mitti can start an automation, and other apps can start, share or export inspections in Mitti.

A report link in the hands of whoever needs it. Inspection Completed starts the Zap when an inspection is done, and Create Public Inspection Report Link produces a link that opens the report without logging in to SafetyCulture. Send it on to your team chat and nobody has to ask for it.

Inspections started from elsewhere. Start Inspection opens a new inspection from a template you choose, so an event in another tool kicks off the check instead of someone remembering to.

Files filed without clicking export. Start Inspection Report Export prepares a PDF or Word version of a report, and Get Exported Inspection Report fetches the file once it exists, ready for a storage step after it.

What Zapier does not do for Mitti: none of the six triggers is instant, so every Zap waits for Zapier's next check. Nothing edits or deletes an inspection, the editor offers no find-or-create, and inspections finished before the Zap was switched on are not picked up. For a wider view of the tool, see our Zapier review.

Vocabulary

Zapier words in one minute

Eight words, and the rest of the page reads easily. Mind the clash: Mitti also has its own actions, which are not Zapier actions.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is switched on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
Action
In Zapier, what the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you. Not the same as a Mitti action.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan counts those, nothing else.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer by Zapier. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment it happens. All of Mitti's are polling.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap carry on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something already in an app, so the steps after it can use what it found instead of guessing.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action, a filter or a search makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What a Mitti Zap really costs

Zapier bills by task, and only for what works. The trigger never costs a task, and neither do the checks Zapier runs on Mitti, however often they happen.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps
  • Steps per Zap on free2: one trigger, one action
  • Premium appNo, Mitti works on the free plan
  • Instant triggersNone: all 6 are polling

Each action that succeeds counts once, so a Zap that exports a report and then fetches it uses two tasks per inspection. A failed action is not counted. Mitti is not a premium app and runs on the free plan, which stops at two steps per Zap; a filter, a search or a second action needs a paid plan. All six Mitti triggers are polling ones, so the grid below applies to every one of them. To go further with the tool, see our Zapier training.

Connect

Connect Mitti to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

Open Apps and add a connection

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog opens: type Mitti in its search box, then pick the app from the results.

  2. 02

    Sign in and grant access

Click Add connection. Mitti opens in a new tab: sign in with the account the Zaps will act for, then grant Zapier access. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  3. 03

    Reuse the connection

The connection is your Mitti account linked to Zapier once. Every Mitti step reuses it afterwards, in this Zap and the next ones. On the first test, run the step once and read what comes back before going further.

First Zap

Your first Zap: every finished inspection posts its report link

GoalWhen an inspection is completed, the team chat receives a link that opens the report without a SafetyCulture login.

  1. 01

    Pick the trigger

Start a new Zap, choose Mitti and the Inspection Completed event that lets you filter by template if you want to. Select the connection made earlier, then narrow it to one template or leave it open.

  2. 02

    Test on a real inspection

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account, so you map the next steps on an inspection that really exists.

  3. 03

    Add the report link

Add Mitti with Create Public Inspection Report Link and map the Inspection ID from the trigger. It is the only required field. Test the step and read what came back.

  4. 04

    Post it to the chat

Add your team chat and its send-message action, then drop the link into the message. With three steps the Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan; it uses two tasks per inspection.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only inspections completed after that moment go through it; the ones finished earlier stay out.

Triggers

Mitti triggers on Zapier

6 events start a Zap when something happens in Mitti. Zapier checks for them at the interval your plan allows.

1

Action Created

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an action is created.”

Starts a Zap when a new action is created in Mitti. Here the word means one of Mitti's own actions, not a step of your Zap, which is worth keeping straight when you read the editor.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when each new Mitti action should also exist in the tool where your team plans its work.
Watch out
Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same action does not start the Zap twice. On a paid plan a check can also be run by hand from the editor.
2

Any Inspection Completed (Advanced)

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when any inspection is completed. Advanced provides additional fields.”

Fires on every completed inspection, whatever its template, and brings more fields with it than the plain version of the same trigger.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when one Zap should cover all your inspections and the next steps need more detail than the basic trigger offers.
Watch out
Advanced means more fields, not a different event. Compare both at the test step and keep the one whose output you actually map.
3

Any Inspection Completed

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when any inspection is completed.”

The broadest of the six: it reacts to any inspection reaching completion, across every template of the account, with no setting to fill first.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when every finished inspection should leave a trace somewhere, a row, a link or a message, without sorting by template.
Watch out
on a busy account it catches everything. If only some inspections matter, add a filter after it, which needs a paid plan, or pick a template-based trigger instead.
4

Inspection Completed (Advanced)

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an inspection from a selected template is completed. Advanced provides additional fields.”

Watches one template only and starts the Zap when an inspection built on it is completed, with the extra fields of the Advanced version.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when a single kind of inspection deserves its own Zap and its extra fields feed the next step.
Watch out
the Template field is required and lists only the 20 most recently modified templates. If yours is missing, pick the Custom option and enter its template ID.
5

Inspection Completed

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an inspection from a selected template is completed.”

Reacts when an inspection from the template you selected is completed, without the extra fields of the Advanced version.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when a Zap belongs to one template and the basic fields are enough for what follows.
Watch out
two triggers carry this exact name. This one requires a Template Name, chosen from the 20 most recently modified templates, or entered through the Custom option with the template ID.
6

Inspection Completed

Polling trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when an inspection is completed. Optionally filter by template.”

The second trigger with this name, and the more flexible one: it fires on any completed inspection, and filtering by template is optional rather than required.

How it fires
Zapier goes and looks at regular intervals, and how often depends on your plan: every 15 minutes on the free one.
When to use it
when you want to start broad and narrow to a template later, without rebuilding the Zap around a different trigger.
Watch out
in the editor the two Inspection Completed entries look alike. Read the setting it asks for: this one does not insist on a template.
Actions

Mitti actions on Zapier

Mitti gives you 7 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

2

Get Exported Inspection Report

Action

In Zapier“Gets an exported inspection report. Either a PDF or Word (.docx) file.”

Fetches the exported report as a PDF or Word file, so a following step can store or attach it.

When to use it
just after Start Inspection Report Export and the pause it recommends, when the file has to land in a folder or an email.
Watch out
it needs both the Inspection ID and the Export ID produced by the export action.
3

Create Public Inspection Report Link

Action

In Zapier“Creates a link that you can use to view an inspection report without logging in to SafetyCulture.”

Generates a link to an inspection report that opens without logging in to SafetyCulture.

When to use it
the report has to reach people who have no account, by email, chat or a shared sheet.
Watch out
anyone holding the link can view the report, so think about where the Zap sends it. The Inspection ID is required.
4

Share Inspection

Action

In Zapier“Shares an inspection with users and/or groups in your organization. Please note that the "view, edit" access level is required at a minimum to share inspections.”

Shares an inspection with users or groups of your organization in Mitti.

When to use it
a completed inspection should reach a manager or a team automatically, without someone opening the sharing menu.
Watch out
the Inspection field is required, and sharing needs at least the view, edit access level on that inspection.
5

Start Inspection

Action

In Zapier“Starts an inspection from a selected template.”

Opens a new inspection from the template you pick, so an event elsewhere starts the check.

When to use it
a new row or a form answer should be followed by an inspection without anyone launching it by hand.
Watch out
the Template list shows only the 20 most recently modified templates; use Custom with the template ID for older ones.
6

Start Inspection Report Export

Action

In Zapier“Starts exporting an inspection report to PDF or Word. We recommend that you create a "Delay" following this action to allow SafetyCulture enough time to export the inspection report.”

Kicks off the export of an inspection report to PDF or Word. Get Exported Inspection Report later asks for an Export ID generated from this action: check at the test step where it shows up.

When to use it
a file of the report should be archived or sent, not just a link.
Watch out
the format is required, and the app recommends a Delay step right after this action to give SafetyCulture time to finish the export.
7

API Request (Beta)

Action

In Zapier“This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.”

An advanced action, still in beta, that sends a request of your own to Mitti using the connection you already made.

When to use it
only when none of the other actions covers what you need and someone on the team knows the app's technical documentation.
Watch out
Stop on error, HTTP Method and URL are required, and the URL can only point to domains tied to the app.
Searches

The Mitti search on Zapier

1 search step looks for data that already exists in Mitti, so a later step can use it.

A search step reads, it does not write. Mitti has one, listed at the bottom of the Action event list under SEARCH. Adding it makes the Zap multi-step, so it needs a paid plan. Three settings decide what happens when it comes back empty or crowded.

1

Find User

Search

In Zapier“Finds a user in your organization by email.”

Looks up a person of your Mitti organization from their email address and hands the result to the steps that follow.

When to use it
before Share Inspection, when the person to share with arrives as an email from another app.
Watch out
Email address is the one required field, and the search only looks inside your organization.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap there and the steps that depended on it are skipped. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
On apps that offer it, this box turns a search into a find-or-create. Find User has no such variant, so the Zap never creates a missing user.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one, which is the default, stop the Zap, or hand all of them on at once.
When it breaks

When a Mitti Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Mitti, and no limit specific to the app is documented. The failures worth knowing are the general ones, and with six polling triggers, a wait of up to one interval of your plan is normal, not a fault.

  • The past is not replayed

A Zap reacts only to what happens after it is switched on. Inspections and actions completed before stay out, and moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

As a general precaution, a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again, and the task count drops fast.
  • A sudden flood gets held

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running every item.
  • The same item counts once

On all six Mitti triggers, Zapier keeps track of what it has already seen, so the same inspection or action does not start the Zap twice.

FAQ

Mitti and Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the Mitti Zapier integration free?
Yes, as long as the Zap stays at two steps. Mitti is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan of Zapier, which gives 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps. A completed inspection that becomes a public report link fits in that shape. Posting the link to a chat afterwards, adding a filter on the template or a Find User search makes the Zap multi-step, and a multi-step Zap needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Mitti Zap use?
One per action that succeeds. The trigger never costs a task, and the checks Zapier runs on the six Mitti triggers cost nothing, however often they happen. A Zap that creates a report link and posts it to a chat uses two tasks per inspection; one that exports the report and then fetches the file uses two as well. An action that fails is not counted. Some apps and actions take more than one task when they complete, so read the count on your plan after a few runs.
03Does Mitti start Zaps in real time?
No. All six Mitti triggers are polling ones: Zapier asks Mitti for new items at an interval set by your plan, 15 minutes on Free, 2 on Professional, 1 on Team and Enterprise. None of them is instant, so even on a paid plan a finished inspection waits for the next check. On the paid plans the interval can be changed, and a check can also be run by hand from the editor, which helps while you are testing a new Zap.
04What do you need to connect Mitti to Zapier?
An account on Mitti, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. The connection happens from the Apps page of Zapier: click + Add connection, search Mitti, click Add connection, sign in in the tab that opens and grant access. It is made once and reused by every Mitti step. For Share Inspection and Create Inspection Edit Link, the account also needs at least the view, edit access level on the inspections.
05Why are there two Inspection Completed triggers?
Because Mitti offers two versions of the same idea, and the editor shows both under one name. The first requires a Template Name and only fires for that template. The second fires on any completed inspection and makes the template filter optional. Pick the first when a Zap belongs to one template for good, the second when you may widen or narrow it later. Both are polling triggers, and both pull templates from the 20 most recently modified, with a Custom option for older ones.
06What if the Mitti operation you want is not listed?
Check the Mitti page on Zapier first: it shows the current list, and that is exactly what the editor offers. If the operation is not there, no regular Mitti step will do it. The integration has one way around that, API Request (Beta), which sends a request of your own with the connection you already made. It is an advanced action, its URL is limited to domains tied to the app, and it calls for someone who knows Mitti's technical documentation.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Mitti?
Compare them on criteria, not on reputation. On Zapier, Mitti offers six triggers, all polling, so the plan you pay for decides how fast a finished inspection reaches the next step. Exporting a report cleanly takes several steps and a Delay, which means a paid plan. Check whether Make and n8n list Mitti or SafetyCulture, which operations they expose, how they count a run, and who on the team will maintain the automation over time.
