Newsman Zapier integrationAutomate Newsman with Zapier.
The Newsman Zapier integration gives you 0 triggers, 6 actions and 0 searches. Another app always starts the Zap; Newsman then adds or updates a subscriber in an email list, a segment or an SMS list, through a plain action or its Double Opt-In variant.

What the Newsman Zapier integration does for you
Newsman combines email marketing and transactional emails, with a focus on ecommerce and automation. Through Zapier, it becomes the place where contacts from your other tools land: a Zap, the automation you build on Zapier, adds or updates subscribers in Newsman each time something happens elsewhere, without copying anything by hand.
Three results people build with it. A list that stays current: Add or Update List Subscriber takes each new form entry and updates the details of a subscriber who already exists with that email, or creates a new one otherwise. Targeted segments: Add or Update Segment Subscriber places a contact in a specific segment of a list, only when the entry meets a condition you set with a filter. An SMS audience: Add or Update SMS List Subscriber files a phone number in an SMS list, in parallel with the email list.
What Zapier does not do for Newsman: there is no trigger and no search. A new subscriber, an unsubscribe or a campaign sent in Newsman can never start a Zap, and a Zap cannot look up a subscriber before acting. All six actions write; none of them removes a contact or sends a campaign.
Each action also exists in a variant whose name ends in Double Opt-In, so the real choice is less about what to do than about which of the six labels fits your list. If you are comparing tools for the same job, see our Newsman Make integration page.
Zapier vocabulary, the short version
Seven words come back on this page. Here is what each one means in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Newsman has none on Zapier, so the trigger always comes from another app.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something. All six Newsman operations are actions.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The count on your plan is a count of those.
- Polling vs instant trigger
- Polling: Zapier checks an app on a timer. Instant: the app calls Zapier itself. Here it concerns the app that starts your Zap.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Newsman Zap really costs
The trigger in the other app costs nothing. Each Newsman action that goes through costs one task.
- Trigger (other app)0 task
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps each
- Premium appNo, Newsman works on the free plan
A Zap with three actions eats three times what a one-action Zap does, and an action that fails is not counted. Newsman is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, within two steps: one trigger and one Newsman action, which covers any of the six. Filing a contact in both an email list and an SMS list, or adding a filter, makes the Zap multi-step and needs a paid plan. The interval grid below applies to the trigger of the other app, and only if that trigger is a polling one.
Connect your Newsman account to Zapier
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, open Apps and click + Add connection. You need a Newsman account, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
- 02
Pick Newsman
Type Newsman in the search box of the dialog, select it in the results, then click Add connection. A new browser tab opens so you can reach your Newsman account.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to Newsman in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. Every Zap and every Newsman step you add afterwards reuses this one connection.
Your first Zap: route form contacts to a Newsman segment
GoalWhen someone fills in your form, add them to a Newsman segment, with a two-step Zap the free plan can run.
- 01
Create the Zap and set the trigger
Start a new Zap and pick your form tool and its new-entry event as the trigger. Newsman has no trigger on Zapier, so the first step always belongs to another app.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test so Zapier brings back the three most recent entries from the connected account. The next steps are then mapped on a real entry, not on an empty template.
- 03
Add the segment action
Click the plus icon, pick Newsman and Add or Update Segment Subscriber, then select your connection. Trigger plus one action keeps the Zap at two steps, so the free plan runs it.
- 04
Fill the three fields
Map the form email into Email, choose the List, then the Segment, which says Choose List first. All three fields are required, so the step cannot be tested before they are set.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test the action once, check the subscriber in Newsman, then click Publish. If you later want only some entries to go through, a filter will need a paid plan.
The 6 Newsman actions
Newsman gives you 6 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Add or Update List Subscriber
ActionIn Zapier“Adds or updates a subscriber in your List.”
Puts a contact into a Newsman email list. If a subscriber with that email exists, their details are updated; otherwise a new subscriber is created. Email and List are required.
Add or Update List Subscriber Double Opt-In
ActionIn Zapier“Adds or updates a subscriber in your List.”
The Double Opt-In counterpart of the list action: same required fields, Email and List, and the same rule of updating an existing email or creating a new subscriber.
Add or Update Segment Subscriber
ActionIn Zapier“Add or Update Subscriber in your Segment.”
Places a contact in a segment of a Newsman list, creating them or updating the existing subscriber with that email. It asks for Email, List and Segment, all required.
Add or Update Segment Subscriber Double Opt-In
ActionIn Zapier“Add or Update Subscriber in your Segment.”
Segment action in its Double Opt-In version. Email, List and Segment are required, and when a subscriber with that email exists, their details are updated; otherwise a new one is created.
Add or Update SMS List Subscriber
ActionIn Zapier“Adds or updates a subscriber in your SMS List.”
Files a phone number in a Newsman SMS list, adding the subscriber or updating them. Two fields are required: Telephone and SMS List.
Add or Update SMS List Subscriber Double Opt-In
ActionIn Zapier“Adds or updates a subscriber in your SMS List.”
Same SMS list job, with Double Opt-In in its name. It needs a Telephone and an SMS List, both required.
When a Newsman Zap breaks
Four situations worth knowing with this integration.
Two come from how Zapier works, two from the fields Newsman requires. When a run fails for another reason, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
Contacts from before stay out
A Zap reacts only to what happens after it is switched on. Contacts collected earlier never reach Newsman through it; moving that backlog is a separate job.The Segment box will not fill
On the two segment actions, the Segment field says Choose List first. Until the required List is set, there is no segment to pick.An existing email gets updated
When a subscriber with that email exists, their details are updated instead of a new subscriber being created. Check at the test what your mapping sends.A big import held back
When the trigger of the other app suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold the runs back.
