What the Ownly Zapier integration actually does
The Ownly Zapier integration is a one-way bridge. Ownly tells Zapier when a home is created or when a lead comes in, and Zapier hands that event to any other app you use. Nothing flows back: on Zapier, Ownly has no action and no search, so it can start a workflow but never be the step that gets written to.
Three things people build with it, each tied to a real trigger:
A lead alert for the sales team. New Lead fires, and a message lands in the channel your sales reps already watch. Nobody has to open Ownly to spot a new buyer.
A lead log outside Ownly. Same trigger, different destination: each new lead becomes a row in a spreadsheet or a contact in your main CRM, so reporting lives where the rest of your numbers live.
A heads-up when inventory grows. New Home fires when a home is created in Ownly, and the marketing or site team gets told, so a new listing does not sit unnoticed.
What Zapier does not do here matters just as much. It cannot create, update or delete anything in Ownly. It cannot look up an existing home or lead either. If your plan is to push data into Ownly, this integration will not get you there, and that is worth knowing before you sketch anything.
No Ownly page exists yet in our n8n or Make catalogs. For the wider picture, see Make vs Zapier and n8n vs Zapier.
Zapier words you will meet on this page
Seven terms, one line each. Once defined here, they are used as-is in the rest of the page.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Here, a new home or a new lead in Ownly. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- The step that does the work once the Zap has started: it writes, sends or moves something for you, in another app here.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills. One task equals one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan counts those, nothing else.
- Polling vs instant
- A polling trigger is checked on a timer. An instant trigger is reported by the app the moment the event happens. Both Ownly triggers are instant.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets a condition you set, and stops it quietly otherwise.
- Connection
- Your Ownly account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap and every step that needs Ownly.
What an Ownly Zap really costs
Good news first: Ownly is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan.
- Premium appNo, free plan works
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Trigger cost0 tasks
- Ownly triggers2, both instant
The trigger never costs a task. You only pay when an action in the next app succeeds, and a failed action is not counted. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but only two-step Zaps: one trigger, one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. The polling grid (Free 15 minutes, down to 1 on Team and Enterprise) does not apply here: both triggers are instant.
Connect Ownly to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
In your Zapier account, go to the Apps page, then click + Add connection. You need an Ownly account first, plus access to any homes or leads you do not own yourself.
- 02
Find Ownly
Type Ownly in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. A sign-in tab for Ownly then opens right next to your Zapier window.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Log in to Ownly in that tab and allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection then shows up in your list, and every future Ownly step in any Zap reuses it.
Your first Zap: route qualified Ownly leads to Slack
GoalEach new Ownly lead that meets your condition becomes a message in your sales channel.
- 01
Pick the trigger
Start a new Zap, choose Ownly as the app and
New Leadas the event, then select the Ownly connection you just made in the previous section. - 02
Test it on real data
Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent leads of the account, so pick one and use it for the mapping that follows.
- 03
Add a filter
Click the plus icon, choose Filter, then set the field to look at, the rule and the value. A text rule only works on text, so match the rule to the data.
- 04
Add the action
Add Slack as the next step, pick the channel, and map the lead details coming from the Ownly step into the text of the message.
- 05
Test, then publish
Test the action and read what came back. When the message looks right, click Publish. The filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.
The 2 Ownly triggers
2 events start a Zap when something happens in Ownly, and 2 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
New Home
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new home is created.”
Starts your Zap each time a home is created in Ownly, so the listing can be announced, logged or handed to another team without anyone copying it by hand.
New Lead
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new lead is created.”
Fires on every lead Ownly records and passes it to whichever app follows, which is how a buyer's interest reaches a salesperson outside the platform.
When an Ownly Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to Ownly, and no app-specific limit is documented. What can go wrong comes from how Zapier itself works.
Four cases cover most surprises with a trigger-only app like this one. Our Zapier troubleshooting page is there when the cause is still unclear.
Old leads never show up
A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Homes and leads created earlier stay where they are, and moving them is a separate job.A bulk import gets held back
If a migration or a mass import creates a huge batch of homes at once, Zapier's flood protection can hold the trigger back instead of running everything.A filter needs a paid plan
The free plan builds two-step Zaps only. A filter, a second action or a search turns the Zap into a multi-step one, which needs a paid plan.Nothing can be written back
Ownly has no action on Zapier. A Zap can read a new home or lead, but it cannot update that record or change its status inside Ownly.
