Overview

What the PassKit Membership Zapier integration actually does

It links PassKit Membership, where you run membership and loyalty programs whose cards live in Apple Wallet and Google Pay, to the rest of your tools through Zapier. A member joins, installs a pass, earns points or checks in, and another app hears about it. The reverse works too: a form, a shop or a spreadsheet can enroll members, move them up a tier or adjust their balance.

Three outcomes cover most of what people build. A member list that fills itself: New Enrollment pushes each new member to your CRM or newsletter, and Enrol Member does the opposite, issuing a pass from a sign-up somewhere else. Points that follow real purchases: Earn Points and Burn Points let a checkout or a booking tool credit or spend a balance, while Change Tier moves the member up when you decide. A wallet you can read: Pass Installed to Wallet and Pass Uninstalled From Wallet tell you whether the card is really on the phone, which is the signal that matters for a loyalty program.

What Zapier does not do here: there is no search step for this app, only two lookup actions (Get Member by PassKit Id, Get Member by External Id). Nothing that happened before you publish a Zap is picked up. And the editor offers exactly these 18 operations, read on 2026-10-14 from version PassKitMembershipCLIAPI@1.0.19. If you are weighing other tools, read n8n vs Zapier and Make vs Zapier.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Eight words come back on every line below. Here they are in plain English, once.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it, here a new member or a pass change.
Action
What the Zap does after it starts: the step that writes, sends or changes something for you, like adding points to a member.
Task
What Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The allowance on your plan is a count of those, nothing else.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself: PassKit calls Zapier the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for a scheduled check.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items at a fixed interval. None of the PassKit Membership triggers work this way.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What it really costs in tasks

The trigger costs nothing. Each action that goes through costs one task, and an action that fails is not counted. A Zap with three actions eats three times what a one-action Zap eats.

  • Trigger0 tasks, whatever the volume
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan

PassKit Membership is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan: 100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, but only two steps per Zap, one trigger and one action. Add a second action or a filter and you need a paid plan. The interval grid below is the one Zapier applies to polling triggers; all four PassKit Membership triggers are instant, so it does not slow them down on any plan. On the free plan, that leaves room for a single action after each PassKit event.

Connect

Connect your PassKit Membership account in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open the Apps page

In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your PassKit account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that uses the app.

  2. 02

    Pick PassKit Membership

Type PassKit Membership in the search box of the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. You need an existing PassKit account, plus access to any program you do not own yourself.

  3. 03

    Sign in and grant access

A new tab opens on PassKit. Sign in with the account that runs your programs and grant Zapier access. The connection then shows up in the list, ready for any Zap.

First Zap

Your first Zap: points and a welcome email for every new member

GoalEach new member gets a starting balance and the welcome email, without anyone opening the PassKit dashboard.

  1. 01

    Build the trigger

Pick PassKit Membership as the app and New Enrollment as the event, choose your connection, then the program to watch. That Program Id is required.

  2. 02

Test it on a real member

Run the test: Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account. Pick one, so the mapping in the next steps uses real values instead of blanks.

  3. 03

    Add Earn Points

Add a PassKit Membership action, choose Earn Points, and map the member from the trigger. Type the amount the program grants on sign-up.

  4. 04

    Add Send Welcome Email

Add a second action, Send Welcome Email, and set Protocol to MEMBERSHIP. Two actions make this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan; on the free plan, keep one action.

  5. 05

    Test each step, then publish

Test the two actions one by one and read what came back. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on. The Zapier training walks through longer builds.

Triggers

PassKit Membership triggers

4 events start a Zap when something happens in PassKit Membership, and 4 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Enrollment

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new member enrols into a membership program.”

Starts the Zap when someone joins one of your membership programs, so the new member reaches your other tools without anyone copying a line. One enrollment, one run. The member record then feeds the next steps.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a climbing gym that wants every new member added to its newsletter and its CRM.
Watch out
the Program Id is required, so the program must already exist in PassKit before you set the trigger.
2

Pass Installed to Wallet

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a pass is installed to a wallet. Dependent on the Pass Holder being connected to internet.”

Runs once a member has actually saved their pass in the wallet app of their phone. It is the difference between a pass issued and a pass in use, and the only trigger that tells you the card made it onto the device.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
mark a contact as active in your CRM only once the card sits in Apple Wallet or Google Pay.
Watch out
PassKit can only report the install when the holder's phone is online, so the timing depends on the member, not on Zapier.
3

Pass Uninstalled From Wallet

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a pass is uninstalled in a wallet. Dependent on the Pass Holder being connected to internet.”

Fires when a member removes the pass from their wallet. For a loyalty program, that is often the first sign someone is drifting away, long before they cancel anything.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
open a follow-up task for your team or send a short win-back message when a regular deletes the card.
Watch out
like the install event, it waits on the holder's phone being connected, and it needs the Program Id of the program you watch.
4

New Update to Pass

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers every time the pass record is updated in the PassKit database. E.g. Points added/removed, checked in/out”

Catches every change to a pass record in PassKit: points added or removed, a check-in, a check-out. It is the widest trigger of the app, and the one to use when you want a log of member activity elsewhere.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
copy each balance change into a spreadsheet your finance team already reads.
Watch out
if the same Zap then runs Earn Points or Set Points on that member, it changes the record it watches and sets itself off again, burning tasks.
Actions

PassKit Membership actions

PassKit Membership gives you 14 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Burn Points

Action

In Zapier“Burns points for a member (identified by PassKit ID or External ID). Deducts the amounts provided.”

Deducts the amounts you provide from a member's balance, which is how a reward gets redeemed from outside PassKit.

When to use it
a voucher used at checkout in your online shop should take the matching points off the card.
2

Change Tier

Action

In Zapier“Change a members tier (identified by PassKit ID or External ID).”

Moves a member to another tier, the member being found by PassKit ID or External ID. The target Tier Id is required, and so is the Program Id when you do not pass the PassKit member ID.

When to use it
upgrade a customer to the gold tier once your shop flags them as a top buyer.
3

Check-In Member

Action

In Zapier“Checks in a member by either internal PassKit ID or External ID.”

Records that a member has arrived, found by internal PassKit ID or External ID.

When to use it
a door scanner or a booking tool that already knows who walked in.
Watch out
a check-in is a pass update, so it also starts any Zap built on New Update to Pass.
4

Check-Out Member

Action

In Zapier“Checks out a member by either internal PassKit ID or External ID.”

The mirror of Check-In Member: marks the member as gone, using the same two ways to find them.

When to use it
close a visit when a session ends in your booking tool, so the record shows who is still on site.
5

Delete Member

Action

In Zapier“Deletes member by either internal PassKit ID or External ID. The membership pass will lose a barcode after member deletion.”

Removes a member, found by internal PassKit ID or External ID, from the program.

When to use it
an account closed in your CRM should not keep a live card.
Watch out
the membership pass loses its barcode after the deletion, so the card on the phone stops working at the counter.
6

Earn Points

Action

In Zapier“Earns points for a member (identified by PassKit ID or External ID). Adds the amounts provided.”

Adds the amounts you provide to a member's balance, the member being found by PassKit ID or External ID.

When to use it
credit points for each paid order or each class booked in another tool.
Watch out
the change counts as an update to the pass, so a Zap that also listens to New Update to Pass will run again.
7

Enrol Member

Action

In Zapier“Adds a member to your program and issue a membership pass.”

Adds a person to one of your programs and issues their membership pass. It turns a sign-up captured anywhere else into a real card.

When to use it
a web form or a shop checkout that should hand every buyer a loyalty pass.
Watch out
Program and Tier are both required, so decide which tier a newcomer lands on before you map anything.
8

Get Member by External Id

Action

In Zapier“Retrieve a PassKit member record by the external ID set on the member.”

Finds a member through the external ID you set on them, typically the customer number of your own system. Program Id and External Id are both required.

When to use it
your shop only knows its own customer number and the Zap needs the PassKit record behind it.
9

Get Member by PassKit Id

Action

In Zapier“Retrieve a PassKit member record by the PassKit ID.”

Retrieves a member record from the ID that PassKit generated, so later steps can use its contents.

When to use it
you stored the PassKit ID in your CRM and need the current tier or balance before deciding what to do.
Watch out
it is an action, not a search step, and the generated member ID is required.
10

Patch Person

Action

In Zapier“Updates personal information of a member pass holder”

Changes only the personal information of a pass holder and leaves the rest of the member record alone. It is the safe way to fix a name or a contact detail.

When to use it
a member edits their profile in your app and PassKit should follow, nothing more.
11

Send Welcome Email

Action

In Zapier“Sends a welcome email to an individual record.”

Sends the PassKit welcome email to one member record, so the newcomer hears from you without anyone writing it.

When to use it
right after Enrol Member. Also handy for members imported earlier who never got theirs.
Watch out
the Protocol field is required: MEMBERSHIP for membership and loyalty programs, SINGLE_USE_COUPON for the coupon protocol.
12

Set Points

Action

In Zapier“Sets points for a member (identified by PassKit ID or External ID). Updates the point balance with the amounts provided.”

Replaces the balance with the amounts you send instead of adding or removing. Three switches, Reset Points, Reset Secondary Points and Reset Tier Points, bring a balance to 0 when set to true; all three are off by default.

When to use it
realign PassKit with a spreadsheet that holds the official balances.
13

Update Member

Action

In Zapier“Updates member by either internal PassKit ID or External ID. If updating only a members personal information use the Patch Person action as empty values along with an updated person field will override existing member personal information.”

Rewrites a member record found by its PassKit ID or its External ID, with Program and Tier required.

When to use it
a full sync from a CRM that owns the member data.
Watch out
sending an updated person field with empty values overwrites the personal details already stored. To change only personal information, use Patch Person instead.
14

Update Expiry Date

Action

In Zapier“Updates expiry of a single member.”

Pushes back or brings forward the expiry of a single member, without touching anything else on the record.

When to use it
a renewal paid through your billing tool should extend the card automatically.
Watch out
it handles one member per run, so a renewal batch means one task per member.
When it breaks

When a PassKit Membership Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to this app, so the traps below are the general ones, seen through a membership program.

Most broken Zaps here come from the way Zapier works, not from PassKit. If a run fails and you cannot see why, the Zapier troubleshooting page is the next stop.

  • Existing members are ignored

A Zap only reacts to what happens after you publish it. Members enrolled before that day never reach the Zap; moving them is a separate import job.
  • The Zap that feeds itself

A Zap on New Update to Pass that runs Earn Points, Set Points or a check-in writes into the record it watches, starts again and burns through your tasks.
  • Bulk imports get held back

After a mass enrollment or a migration, a trigger that suddenly returns a huge batch can be held back by Zapier's flood protection instead of running for each member.

FAQ

PassKit Membership and Zapier: frequent questions

01Is the PassKit Membership Zapier integration free?
Yes, within the limits of the free plan. PassKit Membership is not a premium app, so Zapier does not reserve it for paid plans. The free plan gives you 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, but each Zap stops at two steps: one trigger and one action. As soon as you want a second action, for example Earn Points followed by Send Welcome Email, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. You also need your own PassKit account, which Zapier does not provide.
02How many tasks does a PassKit Membership Zap use?
One task per action that completes, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that listens to New Enrollment and runs a single action costs one task per new member. If it runs three actions, it costs three tasks per member. An action that fails is not counted against your plan. Watch the Zaps built on New Update to Pass: every point change and every check-in starts them, so their volume follows the activity of your whole program, not just new sign-ups.
03Is the PassKit Membership integration real time?
Yes, all four triggers are instant. PassKit reports the event to Zapier itself, so the Zap starts straight away and the interval of your plan does not apply, even on the free plan. In the editor, a Zap built on an instant trigger shows a lightning bolt. One nuance: Pass Installed to Wallet and Pass Uninstalled From Wallet depend on the holder's phone being online, so those events reach PassKit only when the device is connected.
04What does it take to connect a PassKit Membership account?
A PassKit account and access to the programs the Zap will touch. In Zapier, open the Apps page, click + Add connection, search for PassKit Membership, then sign in to PassKit in the tab that opens and grant access. Before building, check that your program and its tiers exist: every trigger asks for a Program Id, and Enrol Member requires both a Program and a Tier. The connection is made once and reused by every step.
05Why did Update Member erase a member's personal details?
Because Update Member replaces the personal information when you send an updated person field with empty values. PassKit states it plainly: to change only the personal details of a pass holder, use Patch Person, which leaves the rest of the record alone. Keep Update Member for full syncs where your CRM owns every field, and map each personal field carefully so that no blank value goes through by accident in a sync.
06What if the PassKit Membership operation for the job is missing?
The editor offers 4 triggers and 14 actions for this app, and that is the whole list. Often the job can be built by chaining what exists: Get Member by External Id to find the record, then Change Tier or Update Expiry Date to act on it. Such a chain is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan. If the operation truly is not in the list, Zapier cannot perform it on PassKit Membership today.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for PassKit Membership?
Decide on criteria rather than on a ranking. On Zapier, PassKit Membership offers 4 instant triggers and 14 actions, works on the free plan, and needs a paid plan as soon as a Zap has two actions or a filter. So check three things: whether your scenario fits in these operations, how many steps it needs, and how many actions per month your program will generate. Then put the same three questions to the other tool before choosing.
