How much does Crazy Egg cost?
All four paid plans, the free tier, what forced annual billing means and what you really pay for your traffic.
Short answer: Crazy Egg costs $29 a month on Starter, $99 on Plus, $249 on Pro and $599 on Enterprise. Those are monthly equivalents: you pay the full year up front, so $348 for the smallest plan. A free plan exists, no card needed, but it has no session recordings.
Two meters drive the price: tracked pageviews per month and recordings. The number of people logging in changes nothing, it's unlimited on every plan. A/B testing only starts at $99. We compared every plan, the traps the pricing page doesn't show, the real yearly cost for six site types and five alternatives.
The Crazy Egg buttons on this page are affiliate links: signing up through them may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
What each Crazy Egg plan includes
Three numbers separate the plans. Tracked pageviews: only the pages you choose to track count, not your whole site. Heatmap reports: each page you analyze uses one report. Recordings: anonymous replays of visits, handy for spotting where a buyer gets stuck.
Everything else is shared: unlimited domains, unlimited team members, conversion tracking, funnels and surveys. AI analysis of heatmaps and recordings comes with every paid plan.
The jump between plans isn't linear. From Starter to Plus the price goes up 3.4 times but pageviews go up 30 times, which makes Starter the most expensive plan per pageview. It's a plan to start on, not to stay on.
US dollars, before tax, monthly equivalent of an annual contract paid up front.

Why your Crazy Egg bill surprises you
The sticker price is accurate. What catches people out is what it implies: a whole year charged at once, a quota that drains faster than expected, and the headline feature locked to the second plan. These are the complaints that come up most in user reviews and forums.
The year is paid up front
"$29 a month" means $348 in one charge. Plus is $1,188, Pro $2,988. The most common complaint from former customers isn't the price, it's the surprise of the annual charge when the trial ends.
One visit burns several pageviews
Crazy Egg counts pageviews, not visitors. With 2,000 visitors each viewing three tracked pages, you use 6,000 pageviews and blow past Starter's 5,000. Check pages per session in your analytics, then multiply by visitors on the pages you'll actually track.
One page, three heatmaps
By default Crazy Egg creates separate reports for desktop, tablet and mobile. On Starter your 5 reports fill up fast, and users describe deleting old reports to start new ones.
A/B testing starts at $99
Starter has no A/B tests, no popup CTAs and no error tracking. If testing page variants is why you're buying, your real entry price is $1,188 a year, not $348.
50 recordings isn't many
Starter stops at 50 recordings a month, under two a day. On a busy store they're gone in days. Plus goes to 1,000 and keeps replays for 2 years instead of 6 months. If recordings are your reason to buy, this meter usually forces the upgrade before pageviews do.
Cap reached, tracking stops
No overage bills is good for budgeting. The flip side is a hole in your data until the 1st. A mid-month traffic spike and your biggest campaign goes unmeasured, so leave at least a quarter of headroom if your traffic swings with sales or ads.
- Count tracked pageviews, not visitors.
- Put the trial end date in your calendar on day one.
- Decide whether you need A/B testing before picking Starter.
- Turn off per-device tracking where mobile traffic is low.
- Set a reminder before the trial ends: the full year is charged in one go.
How we worked out the real cost
Every amount comes from Crazy Egg's official pricing page and FAQ, nothing else. For each profile we take the cheapest plan that covers three needs: tracked pageviews, recordings, and A/B testing when the profile needs it. Former customers' feedback on review sites and forums helps us spot traps, never to set a price. Alternative prices come from each vendor's official page or our own review pages.

- PageviewsVisitors × tracked pages per visitThreshold

Annual totals are calculations: check the final amount, tax included, on the checkout page.
What you actually pay over a year
Six profiles we see often, with the plan that fits and the 12-month total. The pageview math starts from how many tracked pages an average visitor opens: that decides your plan far more than total traffic. Prices exclude sales tax where it applies.

Six ways to cut your Crazy Egg bill
Because Crazy Egg bills on tracked volume, every setting that lowers volume lowers the plan you need. These tips come from Crazy Egg's documentation and from users.
Track only the pages that matter
Crazy Egg doesn't build reports on every page: you choose. Skip legal pages, thank-you pages and the privacy policy. Keep the homepage, product pages and cart.
Turn on sampling
By default 100% of views on a tracked page count. On a busy page a sample is enough to draw the heatmap and cuts usage accordingly. Keep 100% on low-traffic pages where every visit matters.
Drop per-device tracking you don't need
If mobile is under a quarter of a page's traffic, custom tracking avoids creating three reports. Your 5 Starter reports then cover more pages.
Use the trial to measure
Start the 30-day trial on Plus even if you're aiming for Starter. You'll see how many pageviews you really use in a month, then pick the plan on that number. Your trial data is kept if you stay.
Ask for discounts before you pay
The pricing page is plain about it: every plan is billed annually. Agencies, nonprofits and schools do get plans on request through sales, though. None of that shows in the grid, so ask during the trial, while you can still walk away.
Buy volume, not a plan
If only one meter is tight, say recordings, Crazy Egg sells extra heatmaps or recordings without a plan change. Going from Plus to Pro costs $1,800 more a year, so compare that quote first.
- List the pages to track before you sign up.
- Measure real usage during the trial.
- Ask sales about agency, nonprofit or education discounts before paying.
Crazy Egg pricing vs the alternatives
Behavior analytics tools don't all bill the same thing. Crazy Egg counts pageviews; most others count sessions (one full visit, however many pages). For the same traffic, a session-based tool drains slower. Crazy Egg is also the only one here with A/B testing on a plan under $100: Clarity and Contentsquare watch, VWO tests, Crazy Egg does both at small scale.

So, is Crazy Egg worth the money?
Crazy Egg is one of the few tools that puts heatmaps, recordings and A/B tests under one vendor, with a bill that never goes over. Whether it's worth it depends on what you'll do with it. Our full take is in our Crazy Egg review, and the head-to-head with Hotjar in Hotjar vs Crazy Egg.
Worth it if…
You want to see where visitors get stuck and test another version of the page in the same tool. At $99 a month, Plus costs far less than a dedicated testing tool like VWO, and your whole team gets in at no extra cost.
Too expensive if…
You only want to watch. Clarity does heatmaps and recordings for free with no cap. Paying $348 up front for 50 recordings a month can't compete with that.
Our advice
Start on the free plan, or the 30-day trial on Plus to measure your usage. Only commit to the year if you have a real testing plan. Torn between Crazy Egg and a dedicated testing tool? Our Crazy Egg vs VWO comparison settles it.
- Just watching: free Clarity, or Crazy Egg's free plan.
- Watching and testing: Crazy Egg Plus at $99 a month.
- High-traffic store: Pro, once you've measured pageviews.
- Heavy testing program: a dedicated tool, by quote.

Crazy Egg pricing FAQ
How much does Crazy Egg cost per month?
Between $29 and $599 a month, but that monthly figure is the equivalent of an annual contract paid up front. Starter is $29, Plus $99, Pro $249 and Enterprise $599. Over a year that means $348, $1,188, $2,988 or $7,188, charged in one go. Prices are shown before sales tax.Is there a free version of Crazy Egg?
Yes, with limits. The free plan needs no credit card and gives you web analytics, instant heatmaps, conversion analytics and on-site surveys. It has no session recordings and no A/B testing, and Crazy Egg publishes no usage cap for it. For free recordings, Microsoft Clarity is the obvious pairing. Can I pay for Crazy Egg monthly?
No. The pricing page says all plans are billed annually and offers no monthly option. The $29 headline is a monthly equivalent: you pay $348 in one charge when the trial ends. If you don't want a twelve-month commitment, stay on the free plan or cancel before the 30-day trial runs out; you keep access until the end of it.Does the 30-day free trial need a credit card?
Yes. The 30-day trial covers any paid plan and needs a card, which is charged only when the trial ends. You can cancel before that and keep access until the last day. Put the end date in your calendar on day one: the most common complaint is a full year charged after a forgotten trial. Will Crazy Egg refund an annual plan?
Don't count on it. Neither the pricing page nor the FAQ promises refunds, and several customers report being turned down after the annual charge. A few say they got a goodwill refund, case by case. Mouseflow, by contrast, advertises a 14-day money-back window on a first annual plan. What happens when I hit my pageview limit?
Tracking stops and restarts on the 1st of the next month. Crazy Egg never bills overages, so your invoice stays the same, but you lose data for the rest of the month. To avoid the gap, buy extra heatmaps or recordings from sales, upgrade, or track fewer pages. How does Crazy Egg count pageviews?
It counts every view of the pages you chose to track, not visitors. One visitor opening four tracked pages uses four units. By default 100% of views on those pages are tracked, but you can turn on sampling page by page. Pages you don't track cost nothing.Does Crazy Egg offer agency or nonprofit discounts?
Yes, on request. Crazy Egg mentions flexible agency plans and discounts for nonprofits and education, with no public figures. You go through the sales form. Since domains and team members are unlimited on every plan, an agency can already run several clients on one account. Is Crazy Egg cheaper than Hotjar?
Hotjar is now sold by Contentsquare. Its Growth plan is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, and its free tier covers 200,000 sessions with only 5% replayed. Neither includes A/B testing. If you only want to watch visitors, Contentsquare or Clarity cost less; if you want to test page variants, Crazy Egg Plus is the cheaper all-in-one.Is Crazy Egg worth it for a Shopify store?
If you test product pages, yes; if you only watch, less so. The Crazy Egg Shopify app is no longer listed in the Shopify App Store, so you paste the tracking code into your theme. Testing a product page or cart needs at least Plus at $99 a month.
