Which invoicing software generates a compliant VeriFactu QR code?

The QR rules set by Spain's tax agency, what your client sees when scanning, and seven tools compared on how they produce the code.

The short answer: STEL Order if you want a QR that's always on and a choice of label under it, with a free plan to start. TS Facturas (formerly Billin) if you might ever invoice from the Basque Country, since it produces both the VeriFactu and the TicketBAI QR on every plan from €8 a month before VAT. Quipu for a freelancer (autónomo) who wants the QR and label added automatically. Holded for a small business that wants everything in one place. Contasimple to start for free, Odoo if you run stock or a till, Anfix for the lowest price.

Why the QR matters so much: it's the only part of VeriFactu your client actually sees. Every invoice issued by invoicing software must carry it, whether or not your software sends invoices to the AEAT, Spain's tax agency (that sending mode is called VERI*FACTU). Your client scans it with any phone and the AEAT tells them whether your invoice is on record. Get the size, the spot or the amount format wrong and your client gets an error. Then they call you.

The habit that saves you, whatever the tool. Stick with the vendor's invoice template instead of a homemade layout, and scan the QR on your first real invoice yourself before you send it.

The table that settles it

How each tool generates the QR

Every vendor says "VeriFactu ready". For the QR, the real question is narrower: does the code land on the invoice on its own, in the right spot, with the right label, or do you have to set something up? For each tool we looked for a vendor page that describes its QR. Where we couldn't find one, the row says so.

The rank follows the strength of that evidence and how easy the QR is day to day. The score out of 5 is for the whole product, the same as in our other VeriFactu rankings. That's why Holded, the best scored, only ranks fourth here.

How the QR gets onto the invoiceLabel under the QR, mode, starting price before VAT
STEL OrderQR always on, label of your choiceThe QR is always enabled in the VERI*FACTU invoice templates. You pick the text under it: "VERI*FACTU" or "Factura verificable en la sede electrónica de la AEAT".Mode chosen at activation. Free €0, Lite €24/mo (€20 billed yearly), Business €36, Pro €60.

ContasimpleQR shows on the PDF exportThe QR comes from a service run by Cegid, its parent company, and is printed as a QR and as a link on the digital version. To see it, export the invoice to PDF.VeriFactu even on the free plan. Básico €0 (12 documents a year), Profesional €12.95/mo (€10.95 yearly), Ultimate €19.95.
OdooQR on the PDF, module to installThe official VeriFactu module adds the QR to the invoice PDF and to the till receipt. The TicketBAI module does the same for the Basque QR.Modules to install and configure. €0 for a single app (Invoicing), paid Standard plan per user beyond that.
AnfixAutomatic QR, placement and label not describedThe vendor says every VeriFactu invoice gets an automatically generated QR, on every plan. It says nothing on placement or label choice: scan a trial invoice.Básico €5.99/mo (€4.99 yearly, 60 invoices a year), Avanzado €14.99 (€12.49 yearly).
AEAT free appFree, QR not documentedIt issues invoices and sends VERI*FACTU records. Its official page doesn't mention the QR. No simplified invoices (receipts), one recipient per invoice.€0, unlimited invoices, no export to other software. Login with Cl@ve Móvil, a digital certificate or DNIe.

Prices before VAT, read on vendor pages in 2026; Spanish VAT is 21%. "VERI*FACTU mode": the software sends each invoice to the AEAT the moment you issue it; in the other mode it keeps the signed record and hands it over on request.

1
The best-documented QR, with a choice of label

STEL Order

3.6/5

STEL Order is the only tool in our comparison that documents both a choice of label and an always-on QR. In its VERI*FACTU invoice templates the QR is "always enabled", so you can't lose it by switching templates. You also pick the text printed under it: "VERI*FACTU" or the long form "Factura verificable en la sede electrónica de la AEAT". The AEAT accepts both in VERI*FACTU mode.

At activation you also choose your mode: send every invoice to the AEAT, or keep it signed. That matters for the QR. In VERI*FACTU mode, a client who scans sees "Factura encontrada" (invoice found). In the other mode they see "Factura no verificable", which is normal but can worry them. If your clients are businesses that check their invoices, VERI*FACTU mode saves you the explaining.

Pricing starts with a Free plan at €0. Monthly, Lite is €24 before VAT, Business €36 and Pro €60. Commit longer and it drops: €20, €30 and €50 billed yearly, €18, €27 and €45 on two years. VeriFactu is included on every plan.

Its limit is its audience. STEL Order is built around quotes, work orders and invoices for field trades. For a consultant sending ten invoices a month it's more tool than you need, and TS Facturas or Quipu cost less. If you ever want out, our guide to switching from STEL Order lists the options.

Standout features
  • QR always enabled in VERI*FACTU templates
  • Choice between "VERI*FACTU" and the long label
  • Mode chosen at activation
  • Free plan to start
+Pros
  • ✓QR behavior documented by the vendor
  • ✓Best support score on this list
  • ✓Several yearly price tiers
−Cons
  • ✗Pricier than TS Facturas at low volume
  • ✗Built for field trades first
Verdict

Our top pick if you want to be sure the QR always prints, with the label you prefer. For a desk-based freelancer with few invoices, TS Facturas or Quipu are enough.

2
The cheapest way to get both the VeriFactu and TicketBAI QR

TS Facturas

3.9/5

TS Facturas is the new name for Billin. The vendor says your invoices include the QR codes required, and it's one of the few tools that produce both Spanish QR codes: the VeriFactu one and the TicketBAI one, used in the three Basque provinces. Both systems are included on every plan.

Why that helps: the two codes don't look alike. The VeriFactu QR sits at the top of the invoice with "QR tributario:" above it. The TicketBAI QR comes with a 39-character code and points to your province's tax office site. If your tax home moves from one system to the other, a tool that handles both saves you rebuilding your templates.

The price is low, but read the cap. Básico is €8 a month before VAT, or €6.60 billed yearly, and stops at 5 clients. Pro, at €17 (€14 yearly), goes up to 50 clients. Ilimitado, at €28 (€23 yearly), removes the limit.

Watch out for one thing: free phone support is only on Ilimitado. On the smaller plans you go through written support. The trick: before invoicing for real, issue an invoice to yourself and scan its QR with your phone. If you see "Factura encontrada", your setup is right. For both systems in detail, see our VeriFactu and TicketBAI software comparison.

Standout features
  • VeriFactu QR and TicketBAI QR on every plan
  • VeriFactu on every plan
  • BakQ or BaK e-signature included
  • 30-day trial, no card
+Pros
  • ✓Lowest entry price with both QR codes
  • ✓No tool change if you move region
  • ✓Long trial, no card
−Cons
  • ✗Básico plan capped at 5 clients
  • ✗Free phone support only on Ilimitado
Verdict

Best value if you have a foot in the Basque Country, or might. Beyond 50 clients, compare Ilimitado with Quipu.

3
The simplest pick for a freelancer outside the Basque Country

Quipu

3.8/5

Quipu is Spanish invoicing and tax software for freelancers. On its VeriFactu page the vendor explains that each invoice gets a QR code and a unique identifier, and that the "VERI*FACTU" label is added when the invoice is sent to the AEAT. You don't place the QR yourself: it comes with the template.

"VeriFactu ready" is on every plan. Starter is €17 a month before VAT (€8.50 for the first three months), Solution €30 and Premium €59. Paid yearly, that drops to €14, €25 and €49 a month.

Its limit is geographic. Quipu doesn't do TicketBAI. If your tax home is in Álava, Bizkaia or Gipuzkoa, it won't work for you: look at TS Facturas. And if you're thinking of leaving Quipu, our guide to switching from Quipu compares the replacements.

The trick: the "VERI*FACTU" label under the QR should only appear if the invoice really goes to the AEAT. If you work in the other mode, check on your first invoice that the label isn't there. A "VERI*FACTU" QR that returns "no verificable" is exactly the kind of mismatch that makes a client ask questions.

Standout features
  • QR and unique ID on every invoice
  • "VERI*FACTU" label added based on submission
  • VeriFactu on every plan
  • Built for freelancers
+Pros
  • ✓No QR setup to do
  • ✓Simple for a freelancer
  • ✓Discount for the first three months
−Cons
  • ✗No TicketBAI
  • ✗Pricier than TS Facturas to start
Verdict

A good pick if you only invoice outside the Basque Country and want a QR that handles itself. If you need TicketBAI, skip it.

4
The most complete for a small business, QR proof to request

Holded

4.1/5

Holded is the best-known Spanish business management tool, and the best scored across our VeriFactu rankings. On the QR it promises maximum comfort: QR, hash and submission to the AEAT happen "without you having to configure anything", and the label is added for you. VeriFactu is included on every plan.

Why it's only fourth here: we couldn't read its help pages in full, and we only know this behavior from excerpts. That's not a red flag, it's missing evidence. Before you sign, ask sales for a sample invoice PDF and check the QR size yourself, its spot at the top of the first page, and the "QR tributario:" text above it.

The pricing takes some math. Plus is €15 a month before VAT, but €7.50 for the first three months. It caps at 250 invoices a year, about twenty a month. Básico, at €29, goes to 1,000 invoices, and Estándar, at €59, to 3,000.

Where Holded stands out is breadth: accounting, stock, projects and team in one tool, with access for your gestor (the accountant who files your Spanish taxes). If you ever want to leave, our guide to switching from Holded lists the exits.

Standout features
  • QR and label advertised as zero setup
  • VeriFactu on every plan
  • Accounting, stock and projects in one tool
  • Best overall score in our VeriFactu rankings
+Pros
  • ✓One tool for all of a small business's admin
  • ✓Clear invoice caps at each tier
  • ✓Discount for the first three months
−Cons
  • ✗QR behavior thinly documented in public
  • ✗Plus plan capped at 250 invoices a year
Verdict

The right pick for a small business that wants everything in one place. Ask for a sample invoice and check the QR before paying. For a freelancer, Quipu or TS Facturas cost less.

5
A free QR for very low volume

Contasimple

3.4/5

Contasimple belongs to the Cegid group, and it says the most about how its QR works. Its responsible declaration, the document where a vendor commits to its software's compliance, explains that the QR comes from a Cegid service and is printed on the invoice as a QR and as a link in the digital format. VeriFactu is included even on the free plan.

One detail that wastes time: the QR doesn't always show on screen. To see it, export the invoice to PDF from the list of issued invoices in the accounting section. Plenty of users think the QR is missing when it's sitting on the PDF.

The free plan is genuinely tight: 12 documents a year and 10 clients, so one invoice a month. Profesional is €12.95 a month before VAT, or €10.95 yearly, for 500 documents a year. Ultimate goes to €19.95 (€15.95 yearly).

Its main weakness is support and flexibility, both scored low. For a business that grows fast, TS Facturas gives more room at a similar price. But for a side activity, it's the simplest way to get a compliant QR for €0.

Standout features
  • VeriFactu and QR from the free plan
  • QR plus link on the digital version
  • QR mechanics described by the vendor
  • Backed by the Cegid group
+Pros
  • ✓Free for very small activity
  • ✓Low prices on paid plans
  • ✓Written compliance commitment
−Cons
  • ✗QR only visible on the PDF export
  • ✗Free plan capped at 12 documents a year
Verdict

Good for starting at no cost if you invoice less than once a month. Check the QR on the PDF, not on screen.

6
The QR on both the invoice and the till receipt

Odoo

3.5/5

Odoo documents its QR in its official documentation for Spain. Once the VeriFactu module is installed, a Veri*Factu QR appears on the invoice PDF. At the till, the QR prints on the receipt, even when an invoice is created afterwards. The TicketBAI module does the same with the Basque QR. For a shop with a till, that's a real plus.

The catch: nothing is on by default. The Spanish modules are installed and configured by hand (certificate, invoice series, submission mode). After setup, scan a first invoice and check that the address read from the QR starts with www2.agenciatributaria.gob.es, not prewww2.aeat.es, the AEAT's test environment.

On price, the free tier gives you one app with unlimited users. If that app is Invoicing, you can start without paying. As soon as you add stock, point of sale or CRM, you move to the Standard plan, billed per user; check the amount on the vendor's page when you sign.

On your own, a freelancer can get lost. With an Odoo integrator, a small business gets the most complete tool in this comparison.

Standout features
  • Official VeriFactu module, QR on the PDF
  • QR on the till receipt
  • Official TicketBAI module
  • Free with a single app
+Pros
  • ✓Widest feature coverage
  • ✓Till and invoicing in the same tool
  • ✓Fits multi-company setups
−Cons
  • ✗Modules to install and configure by hand
  • ✗Standard plan price to confirm with the vendor
Verdict

The right pick if you run a till, stock or several companies, and have a partner to configure the modules. Too heavy for ten invoices a month.

7
The lowest price, automatic QR on every plan

Anfix

3.7/5

Anfix is the cheapest paid tool on this list. The vendor says every plan includes VeriFactu, and Básico is €4.99 a month before VAT billed yearly (€5.99 monthly), for 60 invoices a year. Avanzado goes to 300 invoices for €12.49 yearly, Profesional to 1,200 invoices for €29.99 (€24.99 yearly).

The vendor says every VeriFactu invoice gets an automatically generated QR, included on all plans. It says nothing about where it sits or which label it uses. Why it's last here: without those details you don't know whether you can pick the label, or how the QR fits your template. Before paying, issue a trial invoice, measure the QR (30 to 40 mm) and scan it.

Like Quipu, Anfix doesn't do TicketBAI. If your tax home is in the Basque Country, it won't work for you.

Also be wary of prices quoted on third-party sites: several show amounts that differ from the vendor's grid. Anfix's own pricing page is the reference. And watch the cap: 60 invoices a year on Básico is five a month.

Standout features
  • VeriFactu on every plan
  • Básico at €4.99/mo billed yearly
  • Monthly or yearly billing
  • Three tiers: 60, 300 and 1,200 invoices a year
+Pros
  • ✓Lowest entry price among paid tools
  • ✓Simple pricing grid
  • ✓Good starting point for low volume
−Cons
  • ✗QR placement and label not described
  • ✗No TicketBAI
Verdict

Fine if price decides everything and you invoice little, outside the Basque Country. Check the QR on a trial invoice before committing.

The QR rules

Six rules for a VeriFactu QR your client can actually read

Most English guides stop at "add a QR code". The rules below come from the AEAT's technical specification and from what users report on business software forums. If your software does its job, there's nothing to set up; these rules let you check that it does. For the general ranking, see the best VeriFactu software.

Size and margin

The QR must be between 30 × 30 and 40 × 40 mm. It follows the international QR standard (ISO/IEC 18004) with error correction level M, which lets a slightly damaged code still read. It needs a white margin of at least 2 mm on all four sides, 6 mm recommended, and enough contrast. It has to stay readable on paper and on the PDF. The classic trap: a QR jammed against the logo or the client block with no margin. On a user forum, a software partner summed up the rule: nothing around the QR.

Placement: at the top, once

The QR goes at the start of the invoice, before any content generated by the software. In portrait, at the top near the margin, ideally centered, otherwise top left. In landscape, on the left, ideally top left. On a multi-page invoice it appears once, on the first page. A pre-printed logo can stay above it. One user who had put the QR in the page header saw it on every page and had to add a condition to show it on page 1 only. When software adds the QR for you, it sometimes pushes the rest of the invoice down: recheck your layout after the update.

The text around the QR

Above the QR, always: "QR tributario:", ideally centered. Just below it, and only if the invoice is sent to the AEAT (VERI*FACTU mode): "VERI*FACTU" or "Factura verificable en la sede electrónica de la AEAT", on one or more lines. The font must be at least as large as the rest of the invoice data. In the other mode the QR is still mandatory, but the VERI*FACTU label is not allowed. These labels stay in Spanish even if the rest of your invoice is in English.

What the QR contains

The QR is just a link to the AEAT's checking service, carrying four pieces of data: your NIF, the Spanish tax ID (9 characters), the invoice series and number (60 characters max), the issue date (DD-MM-YYYY) and the total amount. The amount uses a dot, never a comma: "7,2" returns error 2005. Special characters in your series must be URL-encoded: a series "12345678&G33" becomes "12345678%26G33", or the link breaks. The address changes with the mode (ValidarQR or ValidarQRNoVerifactu), and the test environment (prewww2.aeat.es) must never appear on a real invoice.

What your client sees when scanning

Any phone works; the AEAT app is recommended because it helps spot an irregular QR. There are three possible answers. "Factura encontrada": an identical invoice is on record at the AEAT. "Factura no encontrada": nothing identical, or the invoice was cancelled. "Factura no verificable": your software runs in the other mode, the AEAT received nothing in advance, and it's not fraud. The checking service also accepts an English language setting, handy for international clients. Too many attempts in one day blocks access (error 3002). One user saw their software show "accepted" while the AEAT answered "not found": only the scan result counts.

VeriFactu QR vs TicketBAI QR: not the same code

If your tax home is in Álava, Bizkaia or Gipuzkoa, you invoice under TicketBAI, with its own QR. What they share: same size (30 to 40 mm), same error correction level M, 6 mm margin recommended. What differs: the TicketBAI QR comes with a 39-character TicketBAI code printed in plain text (TBAI, your NIF, the date, the start of the signature and a check code), it carries a checksum that catches reading errors, and each province has its own checking address. Its position isn't the same everywhere: follow your certified software's template. An unreadable TicketBAI QR makes the invoice invalid under TicketBAI. Both systems are covered in our VeriFactu and TicketBAI comparison.

  • The QR amount uses a dot, not a comma
  • Any "/" or "&" in your series is encoded in the link
  • The QR appears once, at the top of the first page
  • It measures 30 to 40 mm, with at least 2 mm of white margin
  • "QR tributario:" is printed above it
  • The VERI*FACTU label is there in VERI*FACTU mode, and only then
  • The QR address is the production one, not the test one
  • A cancelled or corrected invoice is replaced by a corrective invoice, never edited
  • Each client's NIF is validated before issuing, or a pro forma comes out without a QR
  • You've scanned the QR on your first real invoice yourself
FAQ

Your questions about the VeriFactu QR code

  • Do I need the QR if I don't send invoices to the AEAT?

Yes. Every invoice issued by invoicing software carries a QR, in VERI*FACTU mode or the other mode. What changes: the link points to a different AEAT address, and the "VERI*FACTU" label under the QR is not allowed. Only businesses on the SII, the immediate VAT reporting system used by large companies, are exempt for their own invoicing.

  • What does "Factura no verificable" mean?

It means the invoice was issued by software working in the non-VERI*FACTU mode, so the AEAT had nothing to compare it with. It's not a sign of fraud. The scan still leaves the AEAT a record that the invoice exists, with its key data. If your clients are businesses that check every supplier invoice, switching to VERI*FACTU mode turns that answer into "Factura encontrada".

  • My client gets "Factura no encontrada". What now?

First check whether the invoice was cancelled or replaced by a corrective invoice: the scan then says "not found". Then rescan from the original PDF, not a photo or an edited copy, and check that the link goes to an AEAT domain. If all is fine, look at the submission status in your software: a rejection (a changed client tax ID, for example) may have blocked the record. Never edit the PDF: fix it with a corrective invoice.

  • Do PDF and structured e-invoices need the QR?

A PDF does: it carries the QR just like a paper invoice, same spot, same size. A structured e-invoice, such as a Facturae file, has no QR image: it holds the QR link in its data, and your client uses it as if scanning. If you send both, each follows its own rule.

  • Can I add the QR to my own Word or Excel template?

Not a good idea. The QR has to match the record your invoicing software creates: a QR generated separately proves nothing. And a spreadsheet that numbers your invoices may itself count as an invoicing system, under the same rules. The safe route is software that produces the QR on its own, like the ones here, several with a free plan.

  • Do delivery notes and pro formas carry a QR?

No. Delivery notes (albaranes) have no QR, and neither does a pro forma, since it isn't an invoice. Watch the reverse case: if you convert a delivery note into an invoice and get a pro forma without a QR, the client's tax ID often wasn't recognized and the invoice couldn't be issued. Validate your clients' tax IDs before invoicing.

  • Which free software generates the VeriFactu QR?

Contasimple produces the QR from its free plan, capped at 12 documents a year. STEL Order has a Free plan and a QR that's always on in its VERI*FACTU templates. Odoo is free with a single app but needs the module configured. The AEAT's free app issues VERI*FACTU invoices, but its official page doesn't describe the QR, it doesn't do receipts and it can't export to other software.

  • When does the QR become mandatory?

Under current law, in 2027: at the start of the year for companies, mid-year for everyone else, freelancers included. The Finance Ministry has announced a delay to 2028, with no text published in the official gazette yet. Meanwhile, software that already sends in VERI*FACTU mode produces verifiable QR codes: a good time to check yours with no pressure.
