AfterShip alternatives: where to go and how to switch without losing a shipment

Six destinations, one for each reason to leave, and a six-step migration plan.

The short answer: Parcel Panel if you want what AfterShip does on Shopify for a fraction of the price, 17TRACK if you ship small volumes and want a free tier, Shopify's built-in tracking if a clean order status page is all you need, Malomo if tracking is a marketing channel for your brand, Route if you want tracking that costs you nothing and your shoppers are fine with package protection, Sendcloud if you ship from Europe and want labels and tracking in one place. Before you pick, remember this: AfterShip bills every tracked shipment, whether or not your customer ever opens the tracking page. We compared these six tools, their public pricing and their migration path for 2026.

The real reasons

Why merchants leave AfterShip

AfterShip is still the best-known tracking app on Shopify, rated 4.6 out of 5 across more than 1,500 reviews. People who leave rarely complain that it tracks packages badly. They complain about how it bills, and about what it locks behind its pricier plans. Six reasons keep coming up in reviews and forums, and we checked them against the official pages in 2026.

You pay for every shipment, opened or not

AfterShip counts tracked shipments, not customers who actually look at their package. A one-star review from 2026 sums it up: every order you print gets billed, whether the customer ever opens the tracking portal or not. If half your buyers never click the link, you still pay for them. At 2,000 shipments a month, that unused half quickly outweighs the plan itself.

Tiny entry quotas

On the Shopify App Store, the Free plan covers 50 shipments a month. Essentials is $11 a month for 100 shipments, then $0.08 per extra shipment. Premium is $70 a month for 500 shipments, then $0.12 per extra one. Do the math: at 500 shipments a month, Essentials comes to $11 plus 400 times $0.08, so $43. At 2,000 shipments, Premium lands at $250 a month.

Automatic tier upgrades

Outside Shopify, AfterShip moves you up a tier as soon as your plan price plus your overage reaches the price of the next tier. Its own example: a $35 plan billed at $0.08 per unit jumps to the $59 plan at around 300 units of overage. You can switch it off under Billing, and you get an alert at 80% of your quota. On Shopify, the upgrade is never automatic: the app has to ask for your approval.

Features that move between plans

On the current App Store listing, AI delivery estimates, full analytics and the API sit in Premium, at $70 a month. Recent App Store reviews describe features going the other way from what you'd expect: pulled from an existing plan without notice, with an upgrade pitched as the only fix.

Your brand comes after the tier

A tracking page on your own domain (track.yourstore.com) requires Premium or Enterprise. So does the Custom shipment export, and so does the advanced Klaviyo integration. On Essentials, your logo shows on the page, but the address stays AfterShip's. Older reviews already described the small plan sending shoppers to a generic page carrying AfterShip's own promotions.

Billing that draws complaints

On Trustpilot, AfterShip sits at 1.9 out of 5 across 682 reviews. The complaints are about money more than tracking: a wrong plan applied and a promised refund that never arrived, a $555 charge after a canceled trial, support asking for a $1 subscription before answering. Billing runs in dollars every 30 days, and a downgrade only kicks in at the next cycle.

The 6 alternatives

AfterShip alternatives, tool by tool

For each tool: why move to it, who it's for, its limit, how to migrate from AfterShip, and what it costs. Prices are what each vendor lists in 2026. We only kept tools with public pricing: Narvar (quote only) and TrackingMore (no readable amount on its pricing page) stay out of the ranking.

01

CWILL Order Tracking (formerly Parcel Panel): AfterShip's feature set, at a lower price

Best value

Why move to Parcel Panel. It's the most direct replacement. You get a branded tracking page, email notifications and support for 1,600+ carriers. The difference shows on the invoice: Professional costs $59 a month for 2,000 orders, while AfterShip Premium covers 500 for $70. On the Shopify App Store it's now listed as "CWILL Order Tracking - Parcel Panel": the former ParcelPanel, briefly renamed ParcelWILL, now under its publisher's brand, CWILL. We call it Parcel Panel on this page. The vendor also advertises a tracking page under your own domain.

Who it's for. Shopify stores shipping 200 to 25,000 orders a month that want the same service without paying top dollar per shipment. It's rated 5.0 out of 5 on the Shopify App Store, across 3,207 reviews.

Who it's not for. Stores off Shopify, or merchants who notify customers by SMS or WhatsApp.

Its limit. The Shopify listing mentions email notifications and no SMS; the vendor's own comparison page said email only in 2025. If your AfterShip setup sends delivery texts, plan another tool for those. Also, the Klaviyo integration and CSV or PDF export come with Professional, not Essential.

How to migrate. Both AfterShip and Parcel Panel export and import shipments as CSV files. Export your in-transit shipments from AfterShip, import them into Parcel Panel, then swap the tracking page in your theme. The vendor doesn't publish a step-by-step migration guide, so keep AfterShip running long enough to spot-check a dozen orders.

Pricing. Free for 20 orders a month, Essential at $11 for 200, Professional at $59 for 2,000, Enterprise at $479 for 25,000. Each extra order costs $0.05. Billed yearly: $108, $564 and $4,548. 7-day free trial.

17TRACK: the gentlest bill for low volume

Low budget

Why move to 17TRACK. Its free tier matches AfterShip's (50 shipments a month), and its first paid tier gives you twice the volume for less: Basic at $9 a month for 200 shipments, versus Essentials at $11 for 100. It covers 3,300+ carriers, three times AfterShip's 1,100+.

Who it's for. Stores shipping under 1,000 packages a month that want clean tracking without AfterShip pricing. It's rated 4.9 out of 5 on the Shopify App Store, across 4,553 reviews.

Who it's not for. Stores above 2,000 shipments a month: the Premium tier then costs $159, well above Parcel Panel at the same volume.

Its limit. Tiers climb fast: Pro at $49 for 1,000 shipments, Premium at $159 for 2,000. Between 1,000 and 2,000 shipments, Parcel Panel Professional at $59 becomes the better deal. And removing 17TRACK branding from your tracking page takes at least Pro.

How to migrate. We found no official import path from AfterShip. The safest route: connect 17TRACK to new orders, let shipments already in transit finish on AfterShip, then cancel at the next billing cycle.

Pricing. Free for 50 shipments a month, Basic at $9 for 200, Pro at $49 for 1,000, Premium at $159 for 2,000. Billed yearly: $86, $470 and $1,526.

Shopify's built-in tracking: the option people forget

Already paid for

Why move to built-in tracking. Because you already pay for it. Shopify includes a branded order status page with a map, editable shipping emails, and the Shop app for customers who use it. One merchant put it bluntly back in 2022: Shopify now does nearly everything AfterShip does. For plenty of small stores, that's true.

Who it's for. Stores that just want customers to know where their package is, with no campaign around tracking and no extra app bill.

Who it's not for. Brands that want tracking on their own subdomain, product recommendations on the tracking page, or delivery stats per carrier.

Its limit. You can't hide the carrier name. If you ship from a third-party warehouse and don't want customers to see the original carrier, built-in tracking won't do it.

How to migrate. This is the shortest migration. Turn off AfterShip, open the Shipping confirmation notification template in Shopify settings, and put the {{ fulfillment.tracking_url }} variable back in place of the AfterShip link. Then check a few older orders one by one.

Pricing. $0 extra: it's part of your Shopify subscription.

Malomo: when tracking becomes a marketing channel

DTC brands

Why move to Malomo. Malomo treats the tracking page as a page of your brand, and its delivery emails as a channel in their own right, not a carrier status notice. Its pricing is easy to read: Lite at $49 a month for 1,000 shipments, then $0.06 per extra shipment, no contract.

Who it's for. Direct-to-consumer brands shipping 1,000 to 4,000 packages a month that care about every message sent after checkout.

Who it's not for. Small stores that only want to inform customers: there's no free plan, and $49 a month for 200 packages would be steep.

Its limit. Transactional emails are billed separately, at $0.0045 per email. And the next step is a big one: Starter at $189 for 4,000 shipments, Growth from $400.

How to migrate. If your delivery emails run through Klaviyo on AfterShip events, list them before you leave. You'll rewire them to Malomo's events, or let Malomo send them itself.

Pricing. Lite at $49 a month (1,000 shipments, $0.06 per extra), Starter at $189 (4,000 shipments, $0.05 per extra), Growth from $400. At 2,000 shipments a month, Lite comes to $49 plus 1,000 times $0.06, so $109.

Route: $0 tracking, funded by package protection

Free

Why move to Route. Its Standard plan costs $0 a month. The model is different: at checkout, your shopper can add package protection, and that protection funds the service. You get a tracking page and notifications without a subscription.

Who it's for. Stores whose shoppers already like to protect their orders, for example on fragile or high-value products, and that want to delete the tracking line from their expenses.

Who it's not for. Brands that don't want anything extra in checkout. One more option at payment can put some shoppers off.

Its limit. You depend on shoppers buying protection. For a fully custom setup, the Custom plan is quote-only, with no public price.

How to migrate. Install Route, check how protection shows in your checkout, then replace the tracking link in your shipping emails. Keep AfterShip until the last pre-switch packages are delivered.

Sendcloud: labels and tracking for European shippers

Europe

Why move to Sendcloud. AfterShip only tracks packages that other tools shipped. Sendcloud does both: it prints your labels with carriers, then tracks the packages and notifies your customers. You replace two subscriptions with one. Our score: 3.7 out of 5.

Who it's for. Stores shipping from Europe that still create labels by hand or in another tool, and want one dashboard for shipping and tracking.

Who it's not for. Anyone who already has a label tool they like and just wants a new tracking page: you'd pay for features you won't use.

Its limit. Sendcloud lists its plans in euros. The custom tracking page comes with Growth, at €109 a month; full white-label without Sendcloud branding needs Premium at €219. Each label also adds to the bill: from €0.12 on Lite to €0.08 on Pro, then €0.15 beyond the included volume.

How to migrate. The switch follows your shipments: every new label created in Sendcloud is tracked by Sendcloud. Email, SMS and WhatsApp notifications are available from Lite. Keep AfterShip until the last packages shipped before the switch are delivered.

Pricing. Free at €0, Lite at €35, Growth at €109, Premium at €219, Pro at €799 a month. Our full Sendcloud review breaks down the real cost per label, and our Sendcloud pricing page compares the tiers.

The 6 alternatives side by side

Our default pick: Parcel Panel if you're on Shopify and growing, Shopify's built-in tracking if your needs stay simple. For a sense of scale, take a store shipping 500 packages a month. AfterShip costs $43 on Essentials with overage, or $70 on Premium if you want tracking on your own domain. Parcel Panel costs $26 (Essential plus 300 orders at $0.05), 17TRACK $49 (Pro), Malomo $49 (Lite), Route and Shopify $0. One row per tool: free tier and entry price on the left, cost at 500 shipments and migration path on the right.

Migration plan

Switch from AfterShip in six steps

Order matters. Each step protects something: your history, the links your customers already have, your delivery emails, and your last invoice.

01

Export your shipments before you cancel anything

Day 1

In AfterShip, open the Shipments table, then Export. Pick CSV or Excel; the file is emailed to the account owner, so give them a heads-up if that's not you. The Standard export includes tracking number, carrier, order, dates, statuses and estimated delivery date.

Watch out: the Custom export, where you pick the columns, is limited to Premium and Enterprise. If you plan to downgrade before leaving, run the Custom export first.

Format
CSV or Excel
Custom export
Premium and Enterprise
02

List everything that depends on AfterShip

Day 1

Three things tend to break silently. The tracking subdomain: on Premium, track.yourstore.com points to AfterShip through a CNAME record (a DNS line that forwards the subdomain elsewhere). Shopify's shipping confirmation template, if the app put its link there. And Klaviyo flows triggered by AfterShip events: In Transit, Shipped, Failed Attempt, Exception, Out for Delivery, Delivered.

Put each item in a sheet, next to its replacement in the new tool. That's your checklist for switch day.

Time
about an hour
03

Turn off auto-upgrades and time your exit

Save money

Under Billing, switch off automatic tier upgrades: otherwise a shipping spike during the migration can bump you up a tier in your final month. Then line up your exit with the end of the cycle. Downgrades only take effect at the next billing cycle. To change right away you have to cancel and pick a plan again, which starts a fresh 30-day cycle at full price.

Tip: the auto-upgrade never fires in the last 24 hours of a cycle, but don't bank on that for a migration that takes a week.

04

Install the new tool and repoint the subdomain

Day 2

Install the target tool and import the shipments still in transit (Parcel Panel accepts a CSV file). If you had a tracking subdomain, edit its CNAME record so it points to the new tool. Allow up to 24 hours for propagation, so plan the switch on a quiet day.

If you used AfterShip's API (the interface that connects two systems), TrackingMore publishes a migration guide: carrier codes are renamed (slug becomes courier_code, tag becomes delivery_status), and it offers 4 webhooks, automatic notifications pushed to your system, versus 10 on AfterShip. Check that those 4 cover what you use.

DNS propagation

06

Rebuild delivery emails on the new events

Day 3

If your "your package is on its way" or "delivered" emails run through Klaviyo on AfterShip events, they stop the day you switch AfterShip off. Rebuild each flow on the new tool's events, or let the tool send its own emails. Note for Parcel Panel: the Klaviyo integration needs Professional ($59 a month); Essential won't do. Run one real order through each flow before you cancel.

Migration pitfalls

What makes an AfterShip exit go wrong

The same mistakes show up on the Shopify forums and in one-star reviews. None of them is technical in the strict sense: they're oversights, and each one costs you support tickets for weeks.

Uninstalling before fixing links

Your customers keep the links you sent before the switch. If the app disappears, those links can lead nowhere. Fix the email template and check older orders before you uninstall, not after.

Forgetting the subdomain

A track. subdomain still pointing at AfterShip after you cancel shows an error to every customer who clicks. The CNAME record has to stay DNS-only, not proxied, and propagation can take 24 hours.

Downgrading too early

Dropping from Premium to Essentials to save on the last month costs you the Custom export and your own domain. Export first, downgrade second, knowing the downgrade only counts from the next cycle.

Comparing prices, not units

AfterShip counts shipments, Parcel Panel counts orders, Sendcloud charges a plan plus labels, and Route charges you nothing but offers protection to your shoppers. Compare on your busiest month, not the entry price. Our ranking of the best package tracking software runs the numbers at 500 orders.

Losing SMS along the way

If customers got texts from AfterShip, make sure the destination sends them. Parcel Panel only lists email; Sendcloud sends email, SMS and WhatsApp from Lite. Skip this check and customers stop hearing from you overnight.

Letting the $1 trial roll over

If you come back to AfterShip for a transition month, the $1 first-month offer then turns into a full-price plan. Put the end date in your calendar: several reviews describe an unexpected charge after a trial they thought was canceled.

  • Standard export (and Custom if you're on Premium) downloaded and stored outside AfterShip
  • Automatic tier upgrades switched off under Billing
  • track. subdomain repointed to the new tool
  • Shipping confirmation template fixed with {{ fulfillment.tracking_url }} or the new tool's link
  • Five older orders checked by hand
  • Klaviyo flows rewired and one real order tracked end to end
FAQ · 8 questions

AfterShip alternatives: frequently asked questions

  • Is AfterShip free?

Yes, up to 50 shipments a month on the Shopify App Store. Beyond that, Essentials costs $11 a month for 100 shipments. Tip: the first import is free for up to 500 shipments, and the first paid month costs $1, with a 7-day trial. If free is all you want, 17TRACK also offers 50 shipments and Parcel Panel 20 orders.

  • What is the best order tracking app for Shopify?

For most stores, Parcel Panel: the same service as AfterShip, 2,000 orders for $59 a month, and 5.0 out of 5 across 3,000+ App Store reviews. If you ship under 200 packages, 17TRACK Basic at $9 is enough. Our ranking of the best package tracking software compares eight apps.

  • Does Shopify have built-in order tracking?

Yes. Shopify includes a branded order status page with a map, editable shipping emails and the Shop app. What it doesn't do: hide the carrier. The page lives on your store's domain, with no dedicated track. subdomain. For a small store, that's often enough.

  • How do I cancel AfterShip?

Export your shipments first, switch off automatic upgrades under Billing, then uninstall at the end of your cycle. Downgrades only take effect at the next cycle, and canceling then picking a plan again restarts 30 days at full price.

  • Is AfterShip worth it in 2026?

It's worth it if you need its 1,100+ carriers, AI delivery estimates and API on Premium, and your volume stays near 500 shipments. Above that, the $0.12 per extra shipment adds up fast: 2,000 shipments cost $250 a month on Premium, against $59 on Parcel Panel Professional.

  • Will my customers lose their tracking links if I switch apps?

They can, if you don't fix anything. After an uninstall, links already sent can still point to the old app. Put {{ fulfillment.tracking_url }} back in the Shipping confirmation template, then check older orders one by one: broken ones get fixed by hand.

  • Can I keep my Klaviyo flows when I change tracking tools?

You keep the emails, not their triggers. Flows wired to AfterShip events (Shipped, In Transit, Delivered, Exception) stop with it. Rebuild each trigger on the new tool's events, and check before you choose that it actually sends events to Klaviyo.

  • What's a good AfterShip alternative for high-volume brands?

Parcel Panel Enterprise covers 25,000 orders for $479 a month. If tracking is a marketing channel for you, Malomo Starter covers 4,000 shipments for $189, and Growth starts at $400. Narvar often comes up at enterprise level, but it's quote-only. For labels as well, see our best shipping software ranking.
