Langify alternative: where to go without losing your translations

Five destinations compared, one per reason to leave, plus a seven-step migration plan.

Short answer: Translate & Adapt, Shopify's free app, if two auto-translated languages are enough; LangShop if you want many languages on a small budget ($10 a month for 10 languages and 250 products); Transcy if you want languages and currencies in one app; Weglot if you also run a site outside Shopify; GTranslate if your catalog is huge and you want unlimited words. One thing to know first: Translate & Adapt, Transcy and LangShop work inside Shopify's translation storage, the same place Langify already writes to. Weglot and GTranslate translate through their own service, so there you start again from your source language. We compared all five apps and checked their prices in 2026.

The real reasons

Why merchants leave Langify, and what keeps them

Langify still holds a strong Shopify App Store rating (4.7 out of 5, 700+ reviews) and one real strength: unlimited manual translation on the free plan. People leave for other reasons. We went through the one- and two-star reviews, the developer's replies and its help center. Five reasons keep coming up.

AI translation is paid separately, in credits

The free plan lets you translate by hand without limit, but not automatically. Paid plans include a word allowance: 10,000 on Basic ($17.50 a month), 50,000 on Growth ($29.95), 200,000 on Premium ($59.95). Past that, you buy credits at a discount that grows with your plan. In a reply to a review, the developer confirms that used credits are not refunded. Re-translate a product page twice, and you pay twice.

A 20-language ceiling

Free stops at 5 languages, Basic and above at 20. Plenty for a store selling across Europe, tight for a brand shipping to 30 countries. Transcy goes up to 50 languages on Cross-Border, and GTranslate opens every language on its free plan.

Support that recent reviews call slow

Support is the top complaint in negative reviews. One merchant describes three messages over two weeks with no reply, in 2026. An older review mentions a long wait during a critical outage. 24/7 support only starts on Basic, priority support on Premium.

Display bugs and app conflicts

A 2026 review describes a language switcher that sends the page back to the original language. Others mention conflicts with page builders (PageFly, Shogun) or the Judge.me reviews app, and one merchant says an update wiped their work in 2023. These are not the majority, but they hurt when your store depends on foreign traffic.

Third-party apps only on paid plans

Text from third-party apps (reviews, banners, forms) only gets translated from Basic up. If your store runs on five or six apps, the free plan leaves part of every page in your source language.

What keeps you: almost nothing

The good news is that leaving is cheap. A Langify representative confirms on the Shopify Community forum that translations stay in Shopify after you uninstall and show up in Translate & Adapt. Langify also exports each section to CSV, advanced CSV or PO/MO. The real risk is not data loss. It is picking a destination that does not read that storage.

The 5 alternatives

Langify alternatives, app by app

For each app: why move to it, who it fits, its limit, how to migrate from Langify, and what it costs. Prices come from the Shopify App Store in 2026, in US dollars, the billing currency of Shopify apps.

01

Translate & Adapt: the free exit that keeps everything

Cheapest

Why move to Translate & Adapt. It is Shopify's own translation app, and it costs nothing. It reads and edits the same translation storage Langify uses. Langify's own representative says so on the Shopify forum: your translations "should show up in Translate & Adapt". For a two-language store, this is the shortest migration there is: install, check, uninstall Langify.

Who it fits. Stores with one or two extra languages that want a simple side-by-side editor and no translation bill.

Who it doesn't fit. A brand targeting five markets that wants everything AI-translated in one click.

Its limit. Shopify's machine translation covers 2 languages (8 in select countries); beyond that, you translate by hand. Auto-sync, which re-translates edited text, is only available in select countries. On the Shopify forum, merchants work around the cap by exporting a language to CSV, freeing the slot, then re-importing. It works, but it is a hack.

How to migrate. Install the app without removing Langify. Open three typical pages (a product, a collection, the home page) in the side-by-side editor and check the translations are there. Then remove Langify's language switcher from your theme and turn on Shopify's.

LangShop: lots of languages on a small budget

Best price per language

Why move to LangShop. LangShop bills by product count, not by word. Basic gives you 10 languages and unlimited translations on 250 products for $10 a month ($100 a year). If you are tired of watching your Langify AI credits, this is the clearest change of model. It offers three engines (OpenAI, DeepL Pro, Google Cloud) and also translates checkout and metafields, plus third-party apps from Standard up.

Who it fits. Small catalogs opening five to ten markets without a variable bill.

Who it doesn't fit. A 3,000-product catalog: you would need Advanced, $75 a month for 5,000 products and 20 languages.

Its limit. The tier depends on product count, and third-party app translation only comes with Standard ($40 a month, 2,000 products, 15 languages). One reviewer also reports that languages already translated with Shopify's tool counted toward their plan limit, so count your active languages before picking a tier.

How to migrate. LangShop works with your store's Shopify languages, so your Langify languages stay published. Start the 14-day trial, check the pages already translated, then run AI translation only on empty fields so you don't overwrite manual work.

Transcy: languages and currencies in one place

Languages and currencies

Why move to Transcy. Transcy is one of the most-reviewed translation apps on the App Store (2,500+ reviews, 4.5 out of 5). It adds something Langify doesn't do: a converter for 168 currencies with price rounding and visitor location detection. Its listing is clear: "Translation data stays in your Shopify store". Your translations stay in the same storage before and after.

Who it fits. Stores selling across currencies that want one tool for language and displayed price.

Who it doesn't fit. A store that already handles currencies with Shopify Markets and only needs translation.

Its limit. The entry plan, Local Plus ($14.90 a month), covers one language and 100 products. For 15 languages you need Continental at $69 a month, capped at 300 products. Several one-star reviews complain about links changed without permission, so check your menu and links after install.

How to migrate. Install Transcy during the 7-day trial, leave Langify in place, and compare a dozen pages per language. Then turn off the Langify switcher: two switchers on one page is the most common display bug.

Weglot: one app for all your sites

Multi-platform

Why move to Weglot. If your Shopify store sits next to a WordPress blog, a Webflow landing page or a brochure site, Weglot translates them all from one account. SEO comes ready: hreflang tags, metadata, and translated URLs from the Pro plan.

Who it fits. Brands with several sites and a team that wants one dashboard.

Who it doesn't fit. A Shopify-only store that wants to keep its Langify translations: Weglot doesn't reuse Shopify's storage, it translates again from your source language.

Its limit. The word quota. Business ($32 a month) covers 3 languages and 50,000 words; Pro ($87) covers 5 languages and 200,000 words. Words count across all languages, so a 300-product store passes the first tier fast. Charges can also land outside your Shopify invoice. Our switch from Weglot page covers those traps.

How to migrate. Keep your Langify CSV export as a reference and list the brand terms that must not be translated before the first run. Then remove Langify's languages from the storefront so you don't serve two versions of the same page.

GTranslate: unlimited words for a big catalog

Big catalog

Why move to GTranslate. No word quota. Every plan, free included, lists "Unlimited words and pageviews". For a catalog of several thousand products, it is the most predictable bill on this page: $25 a month for all languages with search indexing, $35 with translated URLs.

Who it fits. Large catalogs that accept machine translation and want a flat bill.

Who it doesn't fit. A store that hand-polished its translations in Langify: GTranslate translates through its own service and doesn't reuse that work.

Its limit. The free plan isn't indexed by Google, so it does nothing for SEO. Translated URLs only come with Business ($35). Quality depends on the engine, so plan a human review of your 20 most-visited pages.

How to migrate. Start the 15-day trial on Startup or Business, compare translated pages with the Langify versions, then remove the Langify switcher. Keep your Langify export to fix brand terms.

The comparison

The 5 alternatives side by side

Our default pick: Translate & Adapt for two languages, LangShop beyond that. For a sense of scale, take a 200-product store in three extra languages. Langify Basic costs $17.50 a month, plus credits once you pass 10,000 AI-translated words. LangShop Basic costs $10. Weglot Business costs $32, if your text fits in 50,000 words across all languages. Transcy needs at least Regional ($29, detailed only inside the app), and Continental at $69 for the 15 languages its listing shows. GTranslate Startup costs $25. Translate & Adapt stays free, but the third language is translated by hand.

Migration plan

Leave Langify in seven steps

Order matters. Each step protects something: your translations, your rankings, your international sales.

01

List your languages and translated content

Day 1

Write down your published languages, the translated sections (theme, products, collections, pages, navigation, blog) and the third-party apps whose text runs through Langify. Note where the language switcher comes from: a theme block, a code snippet, an app.

This list is your checklist on switch day. Anything you didn't write down, you won't check.

Time

Risk if rushed

02

Export twice: from Langify and from Shopify

Backup

Langify exports section by section: theme, products, product metafields, collections, pages, navigation, blogs, articles. Pick the simple CSV, the one the developer recommends for migrations. In Shopify, go to Settings, Languages, Export: the file arrives by email.

The two files are not interchangeable. Keep both: one is your backup, the other a glossary if your destination re-translates everything.

03

Pick a destination that reads Shopify's storage

Decision

To keep your work as is, pick Translate & Adapt, LangShop or Transcy. If you go with Weglot or GTranslate, accept starting from your source language and budget for review.

Run the numbers on your real store: products, languages, words. Each app's prices are in the comparison above.

04

Install the destination without touching languages

Day 2

Install the new app next to Langify. Don't delete any language in Shopify during the move: merchants report that deleting a language takes its translations with it. Don't run a store-wide machine translation either, as it would overwrite your manual fixes.

Rule
no language deleted

05

Check ten pages per language

Day 2

Open a product, a collection, the home page, the cart and a legal page in each language. Check the text, the language URL (a subfolder like /fr/ or /de/) and third-party app text. Place one test order per language to see the order confirmation.

06

Replace the language switcher

Switch

Remove Langify's switcher from your theme and turn on the new app's or Shopify's. Two switchers on the same page cause jumps back to the original language, the most cited bug in reviews. Clear your browser cache and test on mobile.

07

Uninstall Langify and clean the theme

Done

Uninstall Langify from the Shopify admin. Translations stay in Shopify, but an older review reports leftover code in the theme: search your theme files for "langify" and remove what remains. Then resubmit your sitemap in Search Console.

Migration pitfalls

What makes a Langify exit go wrong

The same mistakes show up on the Shopify forum and in app reviews. None of them is really technical. They are oversights, and each one costs you traffic.

Deleting a language to start clean

The most expensive mistake. Translations are tied to the language: remove it from the store and you risk losing everything. Unpublish a language if you want to hide it, don't delete it.

Running AI on the whole catalog

Apps offer a "translate all" button. It often overwrites text that was already translated. If you hand-fixed your pages in Langify, limit machine translation to empty fields.

Forgetting third-party apps

Reviews, promo bars and forms often come from third-party apps. On Langify they needed Basic; at your destination, check which plan covers them (Standard at LangShop, for example).

Changing the URL structure

Langify serves languages in subfolders. Keep the same structure at the destination. If your language URLs change, Google has to reindex everything and you lose rankings for weeks.

Comparing prices without comparing units

Langify bills by plan plus AI credits, LangShop and Transcy by product count, Weglot by word across all languages, GTranslate by plan alone. Compare on your real store. Our store translation tools comparison also ranks WooCommerce options.

Keeping two apps live too long

Two translation apps writing to the same storage can contradict each other. Make the switch in a day or two, then uninstall Langify.

FAQ · 7 questions

Langify alternative: frequently asked questions

  • Do I lose my translations if I uninstall Langify?

No, with the current version. A Langify representative confirms on the Shopify Community forum that translations stay in Shopify and show up in Translate & Adapt. Export them anyway first, from Langify and from Shopify, as a backup.

  • What is the best free alternative to Langify?

Translate & Adapt, Shopify's app: free, it reads your Langify translations and machine-translates 2 languages. Past that, you translate by hand. GTranslate is free too, but its free plan isn't indexed by Google.

  • Translate & Adapt or LangShop?

Translate & Adapt for one or two languages, LangShop from three. LangShop Basic gives 10 languages for $10 a month, but only on 250 products. Past 2,000 products you need Advanced at $75.

  • Does Langify work with Shopify Markets?

Langify serves your languages in subfolders or on a custom domain, which fits Shopify's markets setup. If you also want currencies in the same app, Transcy handles 168 of them.

  • How long does a Langify migration take?

About two days for a store with a few hundred products: half a day for inventory and export, a day of checks, a few hours for the switcher and cleanup. Moving to Weglot or GTranslate, add time to review the new translations.

  • Can I import a Langify export into another app?

Not straight into Shopify: the developer states that its files and Shopify's are not interchangeable. The simple CSV export is mainly for moving between two Langify stores, or as a glossary for an app that re-translates.

  • What's a Langify alternative for WordPress or WooCommerce?

Langify only works on Shopify. For WooCommerce, look at WPML, TranslatePress or Polylang; Weglot covers both platforms. Our best translation software page widens the comparison.
