The best Marmalead alternative for Etsy SEO, and how to cancel without paying twice
Five Etsy SEO tools ranked by score and matched to your reason for leaving, plus the cancellation order that avoids an extra charge.
Short answer: the best Marmalead alternative for most Etsy sellers is eRank. It has a free plan with no time limit and its Basic plan costs $5.99 a month, against $19 for Marmalead's only plan. Check your final keywords in Marketplace Insights, Etsy's free tool that shows real search counts. Want software that drafts listings for you? Go with Alura. Want sales estimates? EverBee. Before you leave, know two things: Marmalead doesn't refund the billing period you're in, and disconnecting the app on Etsy doesn't cancel your subscription.
The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.
Why Etsy sellers stop paying for Marmalead
Marmalead was one of the first keyword tools built for Etsy, and it still does some things well: a year of seasonality per keyword, a three-month forecast, engagement data and price ranges for a search. It scores 2.8 out of 5 in our Etsy SEO tools ranking, last of seven. The reasons sellers give for leaving are rarely about features. They're about cost, billing and trust in the numbers.
No free plan, one price for everyone
Marmalead sells a single feature set: $19 a month, $53 a quarter or $190 a year. That's a little over three times eRank Basic ($5.99), and eRank, Alura, EverBee and Sale Samurai all let you start at $0. For a shop that's still finding its first sales, paying $19 before seeing any data is a hard sell.
The current period is never refunded
The terms are short on this point: payments for the current billing period are not refunded, and plans renew automatically unless cancelled first. Reviewers describe charges they didn't expect after a renewal, and one regretted the lack of a reminder before it. On a $190 yearly plan, a missed date costs a full year.
"Cancel on Etsy" doesn't cancel anything
A recurring complaint: a seller removes Marmalead from their Etsy app settings, thinks the subscription is gone, and gets charged again. Etsy's own help page explains that disconnecting only stops the app's future access, and that subscriptions are cancelled with the developer. With Marmalead, that means Account Settings.
A trial that's hard to pin down
One Marmalead page promotes a 14-day risk-free trial, while the pricing page lists none. Some reviewers say they found no free trial at all; another says they cancelled within a day of a "risk-free" start and were still billed. Whatever the right reading, the mixed signals cost Marmalead trust.
Doubts about the volumes
An independent review found a summer keyword showing very few searches in the middle of summer, and noted that trend data leaned on Pinterest, whose users search differently from Etsy shoppers. Etsy doesn't share per-keyword volumes with outside tools, so every tool models them. The free Marketplace Insights is the only way to see Etsy's own count.
Little help on what to sell
Marmalead is built around keywords and listing grades. It doesn't estimate what a competitor's listing sells, which is the first thing many print-on-demand sellers want. Its newer AI coach, Marma, answers questions from your stats, but sellers who care about product research usually look at EverBee or Alura.

Etsy SEO tools to replace Marmalead, ranked by score
We compared each tool on keyword data, entry price, product research, ease of use and billing. Scores are the same as in our full Etsy SEO ranking and our guide to switching from EverBee. For each one: why move to it, who it suits, its weak spot, how to carry your Marmalead work over, and its 2026 list price.
The alternatives
1. eRank: the closest match, at a third of the price
4.4/5 · Best overallWhy switch to eRank. Marmalead and eRank do the same core job: find the words shoppers type, then grade your listings against them. The big difference is the entry ticket. eRank's Free plan never expires and gives you 5 keyword lookups and 5 listing audits a day, for one shop of up to 50 listings. Marmalead has no free tier at all, so for a new shop this alone settles it.
Who it fits. Sellers with products already live who mainly need better titles and tags. A shop with a few dozen listings can run on Free for weeks before deciding whether to pay.
Who should skip it. Sellers who live by seasonal planning. eRank's keyword data is solid, but Marmalead's one-year seasonality chart and three-month forecast are the features you'll miss most.
Weak spot. The Free plan allows a single keyword list, and keyword ideas are a paid feature. The screens are packed with metrics, so plan an afternoon to find your way.
Moving over from Marmalead. Paste the terms from your Marmalead spreadsheet into eRank's keyword tool, best sellers first. On Free, one list means you pick your top terms. Basic raises that to 25 lists, enough to keep one per product line.
Price. Basic runs $5.99 a month or $65.99 a year with 100 keyword searches a day. Pro is $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year (200 a day). Expert is $29.99 a month or $269.99 a year (500 a day). Year on year, eRank Pro costs $95.01 less than Marmalead's $190 annual plan. Cancel any time: you keep access to the end of the period, then drop back to Free.

2. Marketplace Insights: Etsy's own numbers, no subscription
4.3/5 · FreeWhy switch to Marketplace Insights. One of the main doubts about Marmalead is how close its volumes are to reality. Etsy doesn't hand out per-keyword search data to outside tools, so every third-party number is a model. Marketplace Insights is the exception: Etsy builds it from its own searches over the last 30 days.
Who it fits. Every seller, as the final check before a title changes. And small shops that would rather pay nothing and do their brainstorming by hand.
Who should skip it. Nobody should skip it, but nobody should rely on it alone either. It has no listing grades, no competitor views, no seasonality.
Weak spot. 15 keyword searches a week on the free version, and a 30-day window that can't show you December demand in June. Results stay visible for 7 days, so note them somewhere.
Moving over from Marmalead. Open Shop Manager, then Stats, then Marketplace Insights. Run the lead keyword of each best seller. If a term Marmalead rated highly barely registers here, move it out of the front of your title.
Price. Included with your seller account. Unlimited searches come with Etsy Plus.

3. Alura: for sellers who want the listing written for them
4.0/5 · All-in-oneWhy switch to Alura. Marmalead is a keyword tool first. Alura puts keyword and product searches side by side, from the free plan up, with a Chrome extension for browsing Etsy. If you want one subscription that covers both what shoppers search and which products to look at, it's the most complete pick here.
Who it fits. Growing shops that want research in one place, and sellers who need their data in a spreadsheet: CSV export comes with Growth.
Who should skip it. Sellers who only touch a handful of listings a month. eRank Basic does that for less.
Weak spot. The headline prices assume a yearly commitment, so the real entry cost of Basic is $95.88 paid upfront. And CSV export isn't on Basic, only from Growth up.
Moving over from Marmalead. Spend the free plan's 5 daily searches on your Marmalead keyword sheet, best sellers first. If the results convince you, buy a plan and treat the 7-day guarantee as your real trial week.
Price. Free plan with 5 keyword and product searches a day. Basic is $7.99 a month billed yearly ($95.88), Growth $14.99 ($179.99 a year), Professional $29.99 ($359.88 a year). Growth comes in $10.01 under Marmalead's annual plan. Paid plans carry a 7-day money-back guarantee, which Marmalead's terms don't offer.

4. EverBee: when you need sales estimates, not just keywords
3.7/5 · Product researchWhy switch to EverBee. Marmalead tells you what people search for. It doesn't estimate what a listing sells. EverBee does: its main feature is an estimate of the sales behind a listing. If your real question is "what should I make next?", that's the gap Marmalead leaves open.
Who it fits. Print-on-demand and digital sellers who launch new designs often and want to see which niches already move.
Who should skip it. Anyone leaving Marmalead to spend less. EverBee Growth costs $299 a year, $109 more than Marmalead's annual plan.
Weak spot. The sales figures are estimates, because Etsy doesn't publish them. Use them to compare two ideas, not to order stock. The free Hobby plan stops at 10 keywords, too little for real SEO work.
Moving over from Marmalead. Keep a cheap SEO tool for tags and use EverBee for product picks. A common setup is the free Hobby plan for product ideas next to eRank for tags.
Price. Hobby is free forever. Growth is $24.99 a month billed yearly ($299), or $468 a year on monthly billing. Business is $69 a month, billed $828 a year.

5. Sale Samurai: the same budget, more market research
3.6/5 · Same budgetWhy switch to Sale Samurai. If $19 a month is already in your budget, Sale Samurai costs 99 cents more and pairs keyword research with listing analysis. Unlike Marmalead, it lets you try first: a 3-day free trial without a card, and a freemium tier that doesn't ask for payment details.
Who it fits. Sellers who want to keep one simple subscription but tilt it toward finding products, not only polishing tags.
Who should skip it. Sellers who left Marmalead because of the price. This one costs the same.
Weak spot. The freemium tier counts by the month: 20 keyword searches and 10 listing analyses, which a busy week can burn through. Three days of trial go fast, so line up your keyword list before you start it.
Moving over from Marmalead. During the trial, rerun the 20 terms that matter most to your shop. Keywords that look strong in both tools are your safest bets.
Price. $19.99 a month, or $199.90 a year ($16.65 a month). Cancel with no fee and keep access until the paid period ends.

Marmalead vs 5 alternatives, what you pay in a year
The fairest way to compare is the yearly bill. Marmalead costs $190 a year on annual billing, $212 on quarterly, $228 on monthly. eRank Basic costs $65.99 a year, which leaves $124.01 in your pocket. Our default for a seller leaving Marmalead to spend less: eRank Free or Basic, with Marketplace Insights as the referee.

Leaving Marmalead in six steps
The order protects your money and your data: note the date, save what can't be exported, overlap the tools, cancel at the source, and only then disconnect on Etsy.
The steps
Find your renewal date first
Day 1Open Account Settings in Marmalead and write down when your plan renews and how it bills: monthly, quarterly, yearly or lifetime. The terms say plans renew on their own and that payments for the current period aren't refunded. So the date tells you how much time you have left, and the cutoff for cancelling.
On a quarterly or yearly plan, there's no rush to cancel today. You've paid for the period anyway, so use it to run both tools side by side.
- Where
- Account Settings
- Refund
- none for current period
Copy your keyword work by hand
Day 1Marmalead's help center has no published export procedure, and no other tool imports Marmalead data. Open a spreadsheet and copy your saved keywords, the letter grade of each important listing, and the reasons the grade gave you.
Screenshot the seasonality chart for your ten biggest keywords. That one-year view is the hardest thing to rebuild elsewhere, and it's what tells you when to update listings before Q4 or Mother's Day.

- seasonality screenshots
Run the new tool while Marmalead still works
Week 1Start on a free tier or a short trial: eRank Free, Alura Free or its 7-day guarantee, Sale Samurai's 3-day trial, or EverBee Hobby. Rebuild your lists starting with the terms behind your best sellers.
Don't expect matching numbers. Each tool models search its own way, so look at how keywords rank against each other rather than at raw volumes.

Settle disagreements in Marketplace Insights
Week 1When Marmalead and your new tool disagree on a keyword, Etsy's own tool breaks the tie. With 15 searches a week, save them for the lead term of each title.

Cancel inside Marmalead, then disconnect on Etsy
Before renewalCancel in Marmalead's Account Settings before the renewal date and keep the confirmation. Order matters here. Removing the app in your Etsy settings only cuts its access to your data: Etsy's help page says that to cancel a subscription you contact the developer directly. At least one seller reports being charged after "cancelling on Etsy".
Once Marmalead confirms, disconnect the app on Etsy. Etsy also notes that an app may keep data it already received, so if you want that removed, ask Marmalead's support at Success@Marmalead.com.

Connect your shop to the new tool
Week 2Link your shop to the new tool and update listings in batches of 5 to 10, waiting a week or two between batches. If a best seller slips, you'll know which change did it.
Changed your mind later? An Etsy shop links to only one Marmalead account at a time, so detach it from the old account before reconnecting it to a new one.

What makes a Marmalead exit cost more than it should
Changing Etsy SEO tools takes an afternoon. The expensive mistakes are about billing order and lost notes, not about the new tool.
Disconnecting on Etsy first
Removing the app on Etsy leaves the subscription running. Cancel in Marmalead's Account Settings, then disconnect.
Cancelling the day after renewal
The current period isn't refunded. Put a reminder one week before the date, not on the day itself.
Losing the seasonality view
No tool here imports Marmalead's charts. Screenshot the yearly curve of your key terms before access ends.
Comparing raw volumes
Two tools rarely agree on a number. Compare rankings between keywords and let Marketplace Insights settle disputes.
Buying a year on day one
Use a free tier, Sale Samurai's 3 days or Alura's 7-day guarantee before you commit to annual billing.
Rewriting the whole shop at once
Change 5 to 10 listings per batch. If a best seller drops, you'll know which edit did it.
- Renewal date and billing type noted
- Keywords, grades and seasonality screenshots saved
- New tool running on a free tier or trial
- Lead keywords checked in Marketplace Insights
- Cancelled in Marmalead Account Settings, confirmation kept
- App disconnected on Etsy, data deletion requested if wanted
Marmalead alternative FAQ
Is Marmalead free?
No. Marmalead has no free plan: one feature set at $19 a month, $53 a quarter, $190 a year, or $300 once for lifetime access. If you want to start at $0, eRank, Alura, EverBee and Sale Samurai all have free tiers, and Marketplace Insights is free inside Shop Manager.
Does Marmalead have a free trial?
It's unclear. Marmalead has a page advertising a 14-day risk-free trial, but its pricing page doesn't mention one, and some sellers say they found none. Check what the checkout screen says before entering a card, and set a reminder before day 14 if a trial does apply.
Is eRank better than Marmalead?
For most sellers, yes. eRank scores 4.4 out of 5 in our ranking against 2.8 for Marmalead, and it has a free plan. Marmalead keeps one real edge: its one-year seasonality chart and three-month forecast, useful for very seasonal shops.
Does Marmalead give refunds?
Not for the period you're in. Its terms state that payments for the current billing period are not refunded. Cancelling stops the next renewal, so the timing of your cancellation is what saves you money.
What happens to the Marmalead lifetime plan if I switch?
Nothing, because there's no subscription to stop. A lifetime holder can keep Marmalead for seasonal checks and add a free eRank account for daily work. The terms don't describe any refund for it. At $300, it equals about 16 months of the monthly plan, which Marmalead frames as $840 saved over five years.
Where does Marmalead get its data?
It connects to your shop through Etsy's approved method and never asks for your Etsy password. Search volumes, like those of every third-party tool, are modeled: only Marketplace Insights shows Etsy's own search counts.
Is there a free Etsy SEO tool?
Yes. Marketplace Insights gives 15 keyword searches a week from Etsy's data. eRank Free gives 5 lookups a day, Alura Free 5 searches a day, and Sale Samurai's freemium 20 a month. For more options, see our ranking of the best Etsy SEO tools.
Which tool fits digital products or handmade shops?
Digital sellers launch in volume, so product research weighs more: look at EverBee or Sale Samurai, with eRank for tags. We cover both cases in Etsy tools for digital products and tools for makers.
