Claude 8am MyCase connectorWhat Claude can do in your 8am MyCase account.
The Claude 8am MyCase connector lists 73 tools. 72 read your practice data, 1 writes (a bug report to the MyCase team), and 0 are undocumented. Here: what Claude can look up across matters, billing and trust, what stays off limits, and who decides.

What changes for attorneys and legal staff
Instead of clicking through MyCase tabs to answer a partner's question, you ask Claude in plain English. With this connector it reads your firm's practice data under your own MyCase permissions: matters, contacts, tasks, calendar, documents, time entries, invoices, trust accounts and client portal messages. 8am publishes a full catalog describing every tool.
Know what a matter really owes. get_case_billing_summary returns a case's fee structure, totals billed, collected, outstanding and overdue, aging and unbilled work. 8am warns that the balance shown on a client's case list is not money owed; this summary is.
See what is due this week. list_tasks, filtered on open tasks due before a date, answers the Monday question without exporting the whole task history.
Reconcile trust without mixing it with revenue. list_trust_ledger_entries reads deposits into and payments out of trust (IOLTA), and list_trust_bank_accounts shows client funds held in each account.
What the directory sheet does not tell you. Write tools exist, but they are a separate beta: off by default, granted per firm on enrollment, and absent from the sheet. No delete tool is exposed at all. 8am also asks firms to weigh confidentiality before connecting, since privileged communications may reach Claude. And nothing runs on its own: Claude reads MyCase while it answers you, so no reminder goes out when a deadline nears. That background work is the job of an automation tool, a different trade covered on the Integrations hub.
Five words before you connect
The vocabulary you will meet while plugging MyCase into Claude.
- Connector
- The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already have, so Claude can work in it while it answers you.
- Tool
- One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude picks the ones it needs mid-answer, and the directory lists them by name.
- Authorization
- The service's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use. Granted once per person, revocable later.
- Approval
- The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes through with something that changes your account, shown right in the chat.
- MCP
- The shared standard connectors are built on: the piece that lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect MyCase to Claude in three steps
- 01
Find 8am MyCase in Claude
In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for 8am MyCase in the list. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable it first, before any member can sign in.
- 02
Start the connection
Click Connect on its row, then sign in as your own MyCase user in the window MyCase opens. Every call runs as that individual user. If the link ever breaks, use Disconnect and connect again.
- 03
Read the authorization screen
Read the authorization screen and 8am's terms before you accept. They belong to the service, not to Claude, and they set what the access covers. Disconnecting stops future access later on.
The 73 tools, sorted by what they do
8am MyCase gives Claude 73 tools: 72 that read your account, 1 that change something in it.
Two groups: what Claude reads, and the one tool that writes. Tool names stay exactly as Claude shows them. The beta write tools 8am documents are not on the directory sheet, so they are not listed here.

What Claude reads (72)
72 toolsSeventy-two tools that 8am annotates as read-only: they look up firm data and change nothing.
download_document
Hands Claude a short-lived link to the raw file of a document, returned exactly as stored. For the extracted text instead of the file, 8am points to the text tool.
download_document_version
Fetches the raw file of one specific version of a document through a short-lived link, rather than the current file. Useful whenever the history of a draft matters.
full_text_search
Searches across cases, contacts, documents, notes, tasks, events, leads, messages, expenses and call logs at once, matching names, descriptions, numbers and notes, with highlights of the matched text.
get_call
Opens one call log entry from its ID. Call log entries also turn up in the call list and in the firm-wide search, which is where their IDs come from.
get_case
Returns one case with its full staff roster, lead and originating lawyer, rate details and the newest free-text status note firm staff keep on the matter.
get_case_billing_summary
Gives the billing picture of a case: fee structure, amounts billed, collected, outstanding and overdue, trust or credit held, aging, unbilled work and the latest bill and payment.
get_case_folder
Finds the root document folder of a case, the top of that matter's document tree, which the folder tools then open subfolder by subfolder.
get_case_invoice_line_items
Breaks one invoice into its lines, grouped as time entries, expenses, flat fees and discounts, plus balances carried over from earlier unpaid invoices and the invoice header.
get_case_stage
Reads a single case stage from its ID, the label your firm uses to mark where a matter sits in its life cycle.
get_client
Pulls up one client record by its ID. 8am's catalog describes it in a single line, so the record's content is whatever MyCase stores for that client.
get_company
Retrieves a single company contact from its ID, the organization-side counterpart of the client record, once Claude has located it in a list or a search.
get_custom_field
Shows how one custom field is defined, from its ID. Firms add these fields to track what MyCase does not cover by default, so the definition tells Claude how to read the values.
get_document
Returns the metadata of a document, and only that. For the file, 8am points to the download tool; for its words, to the text tool.
get_document_text
Provides the plain text MyCase extracted from a document, through a link that expires in about five minutes, with its length, page count and parse date.
get_event
Opens one calendar event. 8am adds a precise caveat: when starting from a search result, Claude must pass the appointment rule ID, since a search hit points to a single occurrence.
get_expense
Reads one expense entry from its ID, once Claude has spotted it in a case or firm-wide expense list, so you see its details without opening MyCase.
get_firm
Gives information about the current firm, the account the connection is tied to. 8am's catalog says no more about it than that.
get_invoice
Retrieves a specific invoice by ID, including invoices with online payments disabled, since it uses the same wide scope as the firm-wide invoice list.
get_lead
Opens one lead and its reference to the potential case MyCase paired with it. 8am warns that this potential case is not a regular case: the case tools never return it.
get_location
Reads one of the firm's locations from its ID, usually after Claude has seen that ID on another record or in the list of locations.
get_me
Tells Claude who the signed-in MyCase user is. Since every call runs as that person, it is the quickest way to check whose permissions apply.
get_message_thread
Shows the metadata of a client portal or staff message thread: subject, sender, participants, related case and the opening message. The full exchange comes from the thread messages tool.
get_note
Pulls one note from its ID, whether it sits on a case, a client or a company; the case, client and company note lists are where such IDs appear.
get_people_group
Opens one people group from its ID. These are the contact groups a firm uses to organize its contacts, and the record tells Claude what a group covers.
get_practice_area
Returns one practice area by ID, the category a firm assigns to its matters, so Claude can put a name on a code it met elsewhere.
get_referral_source
Looks up one referral source from its ID, the channel through which a matter or a client came to the firm, as recorded in MyCase.
get_staff
Opens the record of one staff member from its ID, once Claude has found it on a case roster or in the staff list.
get_task
Fetches one task in full from its ID, after Claude has spotted it in the task list or in a search hit, with everything recorded on it.
get_time_entry
Returns one time entry with its server-computed total, always present. Billing status and linked invoices appear only if your role has billing access, and are withheld otherwise.
list_all_expenses
Lists every expense across the firm, with an optional filter on one case. Claude can then total them, group them by matter or sort them as you ask.
list_all_invoices
Lists invoices across the firm, or for one case with a filter, including bills whose unpaid balance was carried over into a later invoice.
list_all_payments
Lists payment transactions of every kind: bill, retainer, subscription and quick-bill payments, including pending and failed ones, which a status filter can narrow down.
list_all_time_entries
Lists time entries across the firm, optionally for one case, each with a computed total that 8am recommends over multiplying hours by rate yourself.
list_callers
Lists everyone who can appear in call logs, meaning clients and leads, so Claude can match a call to the right person.
list_calls
Gives Claude the call log, most recent entry first, which is the running thread of the firm's phone contacts with clients and leads.
list_case_billing_expenses
Lists a case's expenses with a computed total. 8am flags a trap: an expense marked as not billed is not necessarily billable, so the billable field must be checked too.
list_case_billing_flat_fees
Lists the flat-fee lines of a case: fixed amounts with no activity, rate or duration, the third kind of line next to time and expenses.
list_case_billing_payments
Lists successful payments applied to a case's bills. Retainer, subscription and quick-bill receipts are excluded, as are pending or failed transactions.
list_case_billing_time_entries
Collects a matter's time entries with a computed total that prices flat-rate entries correctly, which 8am prefers over adding the rows up by hand.
list_case_documents
Shows the documents attached to one case, the narrow view Claude uses when it does not need to search across the whole firm's files.
list_case_invoices
Lists one case's invoices, scoped to that case on the server side, so nothing from another matter slips into the answer Claude gives you.
list_case_notes
Lists the notes of a case. 8am stresses that these are distinct from the running status notes, with their own subject, date and archived state.
list_case_roles
Lists the case roles defined in the firm, the vocabulary used to say who plays which part on a matter, so Claude reads rosters correctly.
list_case_stages
Returns every case stage the firm has defined, so Claude can group matters by where they stand in their life cycle and count them.
list_cases
Lists all cases, filterable by status, recent activity and text. Each row carries a staff summary; the full roster comes from the matter details tool.
list_client_cases
Lists the cases of one client. 8am warns that the outstanding balance field here is not money owed but each case's flat-fee amount.
list_client_message_threads
Narrows the portal view to the message threads with one specific client, rather than every thread you are allowed to see across the firm.
list_client_notes
Brings back the notes filed on a client rather than on a case, which often hold relationship details that never made it into a matter.
list_clients
Lists all clients, with filters on name, email, phone and free text. It is the place to find the right person before opening any other record.
list_companies
Returns all company contacts, filterable by status, name, email, phone and text: the company-side directory of the firm, distinct from individual clients.
list_company_notes
Gathers the notes attached to a company record, which MyCase keeps separate from case notes and client notes.
list_contacts
Lists every contact across the firm, clients, companies and leads together, when Claude does not yet know which kind of contact it is looking for.
list_custom_field_options
Gives the allowed options of a list-type custom field, so Claude knows the possible values before it interprets one found on a record.
list_custom_fields
Lists all custom field definitions the firm has added on top of MyCase's standard fields, which is the map Claude needs to read them.
list_document_versions
Lists every version of one document, so Claude can tell you how many drafts exist and pick the one to fetch next.
list_document_versions_all
Covers document versions across the whole firm, not just for one file, which suits broad reviews of recent document activity on every matter.
list_documents
Returns every document in the firm as metadata only. Text and files come from the dedicated text and download tools, as 8am points out in its catalog.
list_events
Lists calendar events. 8am advises filtering by dates: without a range, the tool returns the firm's whole history, oldest first, which buries what is coming up.
list_folder_documents
Shows what sits inside one folder, the next step once Claude has the case folder or a subfolder in hand.
list_folder_subfolders
Lists the subfolders of a folder, so Claude can walk down a matter's document tree level by level and describe how it is organized.
list_leads
Lists all leads, filterable by status, name, email, phone and text. Each one carries a reference to its potential case, which the regular case tools never return.
list_locations
Lists all the firm's locations, the reference Claude uses to turn a location ID found on another record into an office name.
list_message_threads
Surfaces every message thread you can view, most recently active first, staff-only threads included, each with its opening message.
list_people_groups
Returns the firm's people groups, its contact groups, so Claude can see how contacts are organized before it looks inside one of them.
list_practice_areas
Lists every practice area defined in the firm, which lets Claude group matters or figures by area of law in its answers.
list_referral_sources
Lists all referral sources recorded in MyCase, the channels through which clients reach the firm, as the firm itself has named them.
list_staff
Provides the roster of all staff members, useful any time a question in the conversation involves who works on what or who to ask.
list_tasks
Lists tasks. 8am's advice: filter on open tasks due before a date to answer what is due, otherwise you get the firm's entire task history. Open tasks include those awaiting review.
list_thread_messages
Reads every message in a thread, the opening one and all replies in chronological order, with each sender and timestamp.
list_trust_account_balances
Shows current trust (IOLTA) holdings per client, the rows behind MyCase's Trust Account Summary report, either allocated to a case or held client-wide.
list_trust_bank_accounts
Totals the client funds held in each of the firm's trust bank accounts. 8am insists this balance is client money, never firm revenue.
list_trust_ledger_entries
Reads trust (IOLTA) ledger activity, the rows of MyCase's Trust Account Activity report: deposits into trust and payments or withdrawals out, including incoming deposits that invoice-payment feeds never show.
What Claude writes (1)
1 toolOne tool with an effect outside MyCase. No source gives it a confirmation of its own: the general rule further down applies.
report_feedback
Approval: see the ruleFiles a bug report or a feature request about the MyCase connector itself with the MyCase team. 8am badges it as a write because it has an effect outside MyCase, while it reads and changes no firm data.
What Claude asks before acting
By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before every action it takes on an account on your behalf. The request shows up in the conversation, at the moment it matters.
On Team and Enterprise, workspace owners decide whether a member can let some actions through without being asked, and they can cap what a connector may do for the whole organization. 8am adds that access is user-scoped: every call runs as one MyCase user and sees only what that user can. For its beta write tools, 8am says Claude asks before each write, but that the prompt comes from Claude, and automations, scheduled tasks or an "always allow" setting can skip it.
Which plans it works on
Out of 819 sheets in the official directory, not one shows availability by plan. That answer, connector by connector, is published nowhere: it is a real gap in the catalog.
The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before each member can connect. 8am's own terms set a stricter condition, set out in the limits section. For this connector's current state, check its sheet in the official directory.
Where this connector stops
A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you: nothing fires when a deadline approaches or a payment lands in trust.
A tool list that only shows reads is an observed floor, not a promise: 8am documents write tools that sit outside the sheet, and an admin can open actions no public page lists. The partner badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic says so on every sheet. This connector is documented only by its publisher; Claude's help center has no page for it. 8am's own page also still says MyCase is missing from Claude's directory and must be added as a custom connector, while the directory has listed it since August 2026. For a connector with fewer tools, compare with the Claude affinity connector.
Which Claude plans can use the 8am MyCase connector?
- Claude help center, general connector rule ↗September 2026Remote connectors are open to all users; on Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable each one first.
- 8am terms shown on its tool catalog ↗October 2026The publisher requires firms to hold a Claude Team or Enterprise subscription that excludes firm data from model training by default.
What this page followsThey answer different questions. Anthropic says where connectors can run; 8am sets a contractual condition tied to client confidentiality and privilege. Neither settles your case alone: check the connector's sheet in the directory, and read 8am's terms before connecting.
