Overview

What changes for a sales team on Close

Answering a pipeline question in Close usually means a smart view, a filter and some scrolling. With the connector on, you ask Claude which opportunities are slipping this month. It searches leads, opportunities and activities itself, reads what matters and answers in the conversation, within the access you granted at sign-in.

Prepare a call without clicking around. lead_search finds the company, fetch_lead opens it, and activity_search lists recent calls and emails, newest first.

Log what came out of a meeting. create_contact adds the new stakeholder you met, and create_opportunity records the deal that just opened.

Keep the pipeline tidy. update_opportunity moves a deal, and find_opportunities surfaces the ones by status, owner or lead.

What the sheet does not tell you. Four entries on it have no tool description: three of them are the names Close gives to access scopes. Which tools Claude may use depends on the scope granted when you connect: read only, safe writes, or full writes including edits and deletions. Several deletions are permanent. And nothing runs on its own: no tool fires when a lead changes status. For that kind of background work, the Integrations hub gathers automation tools, which do a different job.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary in one minute

Five words you will meet while connecting Close.

Connector
The link you set up once between Claude and an account you already own, so Claude can work on it while it answers you.
Tool
One named thing a connector lets Claude do. Claude chooses the ones it needs on its own; the directory sheet lists them by name.
Authorization
The service's own sign-in screen, where you hand Claude the access it will use afterwards. Granted once per person, revocable the same way.
Approval
The confirmation Claude waits for before it goes through with something that changes the account, shown in the chat when it matters.
MCP
The shared standard connectors are built on: it is what lets an assistant like Claude talk to an outside service.
Connect

Connect Close to Claude in three steps

  1. 01

    Find Close in Claude

In Claude's settings, open Customize, then Connectors, and look for Close. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable the connector first; after that, each member connects individually.

  2. 02

    Start the connection

Click Connect on its row. Close opens its own authorization page, where you pick the Close organization to grant. If the link breaks later, use Disconnect and connect again.

  3. 03

    Read the authorization screen

Read the screen before you allow access. It is Close's screen, not Claude's, and it decides what the access covers, including the scope. You can take the access back later from the Close side too.

What Claude reads (22)

22 tools

Twenty-two tools that search and open leads, deals, templates and settings without changing them.

fetch_contact

Opens an existing contact by its ID, with the details Close stores on that person. It needs that ID, so it comes after a search.

When it helps
you need the direct line of the buyer before calling back, and you know which company they belong to.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_email_template

Retrieves a single email template by ID so Claude can read the exact wording your team uses.

When it helps
a rep wants to check what the follow-up template actually says before a teammate uses it for a large list of prospects.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_lead_smart_view

Opens a smart view, which is Close's name for a saved search, by its ID, so Claude knows the exact filter behind it.

When it helps
a manager asks why a lead shows up in the view called stalled deals and wants the criteria spelled out.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_lead_status

Reads a single lead status by its ID. Claude uses it to translate an internal status reference into the label your team actually sees.

When it helps
a report mentions a status ID and you want to know which stage of your process it corresponds to.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_lead

Pulls up an existing lead, a company in Close's model, by its ID, with what Close holds on it. It is the core record behind contacts and deals.

When it helps
ten minutes before a demo, you want the company record and its current status in one answer.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_opportunity_status

Looks up one opportunity status by ID, so Claude can name the stage a deal sits in rather than quote a code.

When it helps
a forecast export lists status IDs and the finance lead wants to know what each one means in plain words.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_opportunity

Fetches a specific opportunity by its ID, with the deal information Close keeps on it.

When it helps
a founder asks where the biggest deal of the quarter stands before a board call and wants the facts rather than a summary from memory.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_pipeline_and_opportunity_statuses

Retrieves an opportunity pipeline by its ID, together with all the statuses that make it up.

When it helps
a new sales ops hire wants to understand how the enterprise pipeline is structured, stage by stage, before touching anything in it.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

fetch_sms_template

Opens a single SMS template by ID so Claude can go through the text word for word.

When it helps
compliance wants to review the wording of the appointment reminder your team uses for texts, before a new campaign starts next week.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

find_email_templates

Lists the email templates in your organization, or finds the ones that match what you describe.

When it helps
you remember a template for event follow-ups exists but not its name, and you want Claude to pull the right one before drafting a new version.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

find_lead_smart_views

Lists the smart views, Close's saved searches, available to you. Claude uses the list to point you to an existing view instead of rebuilding a filter.

When it helps
a new rep asks which saved lists the team relies on every morning.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

find_lead_statuses

Lists or finds the lead statuses defined for your organization, with their labels.

When it helps
before you plan a status cleanup with Claude, you want to see which statuses exist so the request uses the right label and not a near duplicate.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

find_opportunities

Searches opportunities by status (active, won or lost), by owner or by lead. Pipeline questions usually start with a filter like one of those three.

When it helps
a sales director wants every open deal owned by a rep who is about to go on leave.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

find_pipelines_and_opportunity_statuses

When it helps
you run separate pipelines for new business and renewals and want a side-by-side view of their stages before a process review.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

find_sms_templates

Browses the SMS templates stored in Close, or looks up the ones matching a description.

When it helps
a support lead wants to know whether a text template for missed calls already exists before asking someone to draft one, and wants to see its current wording in the conversation.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

find_workflows

Returns the workflows, which Close also calls sequences, so Claude can tell you which ones exist and what they are named.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

org_info

When it helps
you manage several Close organizations and want Claude to confirm which one it is working in before you ask it anything else.

Sourcedeveloper.close.com · September 30, 2026 ↗

org_users

Returns the active users of your organization, which lets Claude match an owner name to the right person.

When it helps
you ask for every deal owned by Sam, and Claude needs to know which Sam on the team you mean before it runs the search.

Undocumented (4)

4 tools

The directory publishes these four names, but no official source describes a tool behind them. We will not guess from a name.

mcp.read

This name appears on the directory sheet, yet no official source documents a tool behind it. Close's docs use the same name for an access scope, the read-only level you can pick at sign-in, which is not a tool description.

Watch out
the general approval rules below cover it.

mcp.write_safe

No official source documents a tool with this name. In Close's documentation, the same label names the middle access level chosen when connecting; the page stops at that fact and treats the entry as undocumented.

Watch out
it remains under the default approval rule.

mcp.write_destructive

The last of the four: the sheet prints the name, and Close's docs use it for the widest access level you can grant at sign-in. No official source documents a tool behind it.

Watch out
the general approval rules apply to it like to any other entry.
Approvals

What Claude asks before acting

By default, Claude stops and asks for your go-ahead before any action it takes on an account on your behalf. The request shows up in the conversation right when it matters.

With 29 tools that create, edit or delete, that rule matters here. Close adds its own layer: the scope you grant at sign-in decides which of those tools exist for Claude at all. On Team or Enterprise, owners decide whether members may let some actions through without being asked, and they can cap what the connector may do for everyone. Claude works with your Close permissions and nothing more, whatever the scope.

Plans

Which Claude plans it runs on

Of the 819 sheets in the official directory, none shows plan availability. The connector-by-connector answer is not published anywhere.

The general rule is public: remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner enables the connector for the organization before each member can connect. Close's own help page says something narrower, set against this rule in the limits section. For the current state, check the connector's sheet in the official directory.

Limits

Where this connector stops

A connector is not an automation. Claude calls these tools while it answers you; nothing starts when a lead changes status or an email arrives.

The tool list is an observed floor, not a promise: an admin can open actions no public sheet shows. The partner badge is not a security audit either, and Anthropic writes it on every sheet: it does not choose the tools a publisher exposes and does not guarantee they behave as described. Connect only what comes from a publisher you trust. Only Close documents this connector; no Claude help article covers it. For a lighter CRM connector, compare with the Claude activecampaign connector.

Two official sources disagree

Which Claude plans can use the Close connector?

  • Claude help center, general rule for connectors ↗September 2026Remote connectors are available to all users; on Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner must enable each one first.
  • Close's help article ↗September 30, 2026The publisher says the connectors library requires a paid Claude plan, then adds that the Claude desktop app can reach Close's server on any plan.

What this page followsThe two texts do not cover the same ground: Anthropic's rule applies to every connector, while Close speaks about its own, and even nuances itself. Neither is marked outdated, and neither settles it for your account: check the connector's directory sheet from your own Claude account.

FAQ

Claude Close connector: frequent questions

01What can Claude do with the Close connector?
Claude can read and manage your Close CRM while it answers you. The documented reading tools search activities and leads, open leads, contacts, opportunities, statuses, pipelines and templates, list smart views, workflows and scheduling links, and describe your organization and its users. The writing tools create, edit or delete leads, contacts, addresses, opportunities, statuses, pipelines, email and SMS templates, smart views and draft workflows. Four entries on the sheet have no tool description.
02Can Claude edit or delete records in Close?
Yes, if the scope you granted allows it. Close splits access in three: read only, safe writes that create records, and full writes that also edit and delete. Every update tool sits in that last scope, alongside permanent deletions of leads, contacts, opportunities, templates, statuses and pipelines. Deleting a lead removes its contacts, opportunities, tasks and activities too. Workflows created through Claude start as drafts, so nothing is sent at creation.
03Does Claude ask before changing my Close data?
Claude's default is to ask for confirmation before any action it takes on an account on your behalf. For one tool, the source is more precise: Close tells the assistant to delete a lead only on your explicit instruction, after confirming what the deletion entails and that it cannot be reversed. For the other writing tools, no specific confirmation is described, so the default applies. Workspace owners on Team or Enterprise can also block writing for everyone.
04Which Claude plans is the Close connector available on?
No official source publishes plan availability connector by connector, and none of the 819 directory sheets shows it. The general rule says remote connectors are open to all users on Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop and mobile, with an Owner or Primary Owner enabling them first on Team and Enterprise. Close's help page states a narrower condition, quoted in the limits section. The connector's directory sheet shows the current state for your account.
05Does Claude see our whole Close organization?
No, Claude works with your rights and nothing more. Close says the connector reads leads, contacts, opportunities and activities according to your Close permissions, in the organization you picked at sign-in. The scope you granted also limits what Claude can change. A colleague with broader Close rights, or a wider scope, will get more out of the same request. On a Claude Team or Enterprise workspace, owners can restrict the connector further.
06Why can Claude create a lead in Close but not update one?
Because of the scope chosen when the connection was made. Close puts creation tools in its safe-write scope, but every update tool, like every deletion, in the wider destructive scope. If you granted safe writes only, Claude can add leads, contacts or opportunities but cannot change existing ones. Reconnect and grant the wider scope if you need edits, knowing that it opens deletions too. Your admin may also have a view on which scope the team should use.
07Claude or an automation tool for Close?
They do different jobs, so choose by use. Claude with the connector suits work in the moment: preparing a call, logging what a meeting produced, cleaning up a pipeline, drafting a sequence. It acts only while you talk to it. Moving leads automatically when a form comes in, or syncing Close with billing every night, is automation work, better handled by a tool built to run in the background. Neither is ranked above the other here.
