AltTextify Zapier integrationAutomate AltTextify with Zapier.
The AltTextify Zapier integration offers 0 triggers, 1 action and 0 searches. AltTextify waits for an image link handed over by another app, writes the alt text, and leaves the storing to the next step. Below: the bill in tasks, the connection, a first Zap and the usual failure points.

What the AltTextify Zapier integration actually does
Linking AltTextify to Zapier means one thing: an image link arrives from another app, and AltTextify hands back a description of that image, ready to paste into an alt attribute. It is an AI tool that writes alt text for your pictures, as long as it can open the image from a public link. No clicks, no copy and paste.
One action, Generate Image Alt Text, and three ways people put it to work. A product catalogue kept in a spreadsheet: each new row carries the public link of a photo, and the description is written as soon as the row exists. A submission form where contributors paste the link of their visual: the text is ready before an editor looks at the entry. An image library kept in a database: every record gets its alt text without a person opening the picture.
What it will not do matters just as much. AltTextify offers no trigger on Zapier, so a spreadsheet, a form or a storage app always has to start the Zap and pass the link along. No search either: a description written earlier cannot be fetched back by a later Zap. The text lands in Zapier and stays there until a following step writes it somewhere. The single required field is Image URL, and it only accepts a publicly reachable link to a JPEG, PNG, GIF, WEBP or BMP file.

The Zapier words used on this page
Seven terms come back in every section below. They are defined here once and not again.
- Zap
- A Zapier automation: a single trigger followed by one action or more, replayed every time that trigger event occurs.
- Trigger
- What starts a Zap: an event in an app, which Zapier keeps watching for once the Zap is switched on. AltTextify has none.
- Action
- A step the Zap performs after starting, writing, sending or moving something; Generate Image Alt Text is one.
- Task
- Zapier's billing unit, counted for each action that finishes successfully. Plan quotas are expressed in tasks.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports to Zapier itself, right as the event happens. Its opposite, polling, is checked on a timer.
- Connection
- An app account linked to Zapier one time, then picked again by every step on that app, whatever the Zap.
- Multi-step Zap
- A Zap with more than one trigger and one action. Adding an action, a filter or a search makes one; it requires a paid plan.
Tasks, plans and the free tier
No premium badge on AltTextify: the free plan can run it. What Zapier counts is tasks, and a task only exists once an action has succeeded.
- Monthly tasks on Free100, with unlimited Zaps
- Free Zap shapeOne trigger plus one action
- Paid plan required for the appNo
- BilledOnly successful actions
Each image that goes through Generate Image Alt Text without error uses one task. A run that fails uses none, and the trigger, like every check Zapier makes for new rows, is free. The free plan's 100 monthly tasks come with a structural limit: two steps per Zap, one trigger and one action. Saving the description to a database, or adding a filter, is a third step and calls for a paid plan. The grid below applies to the app that starts the Zap, when its trigger polls.
Linking AltTextify to your Zapier account
- 01
Start from Apps
Open Apps in Zapier, then + Add connection. Before that, create the AltTextify account the Zap will run on, and make sure it can reach anything owned by someone else.
- 02
Select AltTextify
Search for AltTextify in the dialog that appears, select it, and confirm with Add connection. Zapier hands over to a separate tab belonging to the app.
- 03
Log in and authorise
Log in to AltTextify in that tab and give Zapier access. Back in Apps, the connection is listed, ready to be offered in any AltTextify step you add later.
Build a first AltTextify Zap
GoalEach new spreadsheet row that holds a public image link gets its alt text, and the result is saved as an Airtable record.
- 01
Start with the spreadsheet trigger
Create a Zap and set the app and event that start it: a new row in a sheet whose column holds image links. If that trigger polls, Free checks it every 15 minutes.
- 02
Test with a real row
The trigger test returns the three most recent rows of the connected account. Choose one whose link really opens a picture, so the mapping relies on true data.
- 03
Plug in Generate Image Alt Text
Add the AltTextify action with its connection and map the link column into Image URL, the one field it requires. Nothing else has to be filled in.
- 04
Save the description
Add a third step that creates an Airtable record with the text AltTextify returned. With three steps, the Zap is multi-step and needs a paid plan.
- 05
Check and switch on
Run each step's test and read the output before moving on. Once the description reads well, Publish turns the Zap on for every new row.
The AltTextify action
AltTextify gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

Generate Image Alt Text
ActionIn Zapier“Generate Alt Text for the specified image”
Give it the public link of a picture and it returns an alt text written by AI, ready for a later step to store in a record, a page or a product listing.
Where an AltTextify Zap goes wrong
No Zapier help article is tied to AltTextify, so the limits listed here are the platform's general ones.
These four account for most broken runs on an image Zap. They come from Zapier, not from AltTextify. For a step-by-step look at the editor, see the Zapier training.
Rows added before the Zap stay untouched
Only events that happen after the Zap is published are picked up. Image links already in the sheet need a separate catch-up job.Writing where the trigger looks
Saving the alt text back into the sheet the trigger watches creates new events, so the Zap restarts itself and drains tasks quickly. An import of thousands of rows
A sudden huge batch from the trigger, after an import or a migration, can be held back by Zapier's flood protection. No double processing
Zapier keeps a record of what a polling trigger has already returned, so a row it has seen will not start the Zap a second time.
