Overview

What the LoyaltyDog Zapier integration does for you

It connects LoyaltyDog, a smartphone-based loyalty program, to Zapier, the tool that passes data between apps so nobody retypes it. LoyaltyDog works in both directions here: its events can start an automation, and its actions let other apps create customers, award points and handle offers.

Three results worth building. A sales log that fills itself: Transaction Complete sends each finished transaction to a spreadsheet or reporting tool. Points that follow your other tools: an event elsewhere turns into Award Customer Points for the right member. A customer list kept in step: Customer Change tells your contact tool when someone is created, updated or deleted in the program.

The most useful fact on this page: all three LoyaltyDog triggers are instant. LoyaltyDog tells Zapier itself, so the Zap starts straight away even on the free plan, and the plan interval never slows you down.

What Zapier does not do for LoyaltyDog: there is no search step, so a Zap cannot look a customer up by name. Every action that needs a Customer ID has to get it from an earlier step, usually the trigger. If you are still choosing a platform, start with our Zapier review, then read n8n vs Zapier.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, in plain English

Eight terms come back on every line of this page. Here they are once, in ordinary words.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time that event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it, here a change or a sale in LoyaltyDog.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like awarding points.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completed successfully. Your plan counts those, and nothing else.
Polling trigger
A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking for new items at a fixed interval. LoyaltyDog has none of these.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself, calling Zapier the moment the event happens. All three LoyaltyDog triggers work this way.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
Connection
Your LoyaltyDog account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that uses LoyaltyDog in any Zap.
Cost

What a LoyaltyDog Zap really costs

Zapier bills tasks, and only actions that go through are counted.

  • LoyaltyDog triggers0 tasks, all instant
  • Each successful action1 task
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Premium appNo

The LoyaltyDog triggers never cost a task. Each action that succeeds, from Create Customer to Broadcast Message, counts as one; an action that fails costs nothing. LoyaltyDog is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan: 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps, one trigger and one action. Add a filter or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is Zapier's for polling triggers; it does not apply to LoyaltyDog's triggers, which are all instant.

Connect

Connect LoyaltyDog to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

Open Apps and add a connection

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box: type LoyaltyDog and pick it from the results.

  2. 02

    Sign in to LoyaltyDog

Click Add connection. A tab opens on LoyaltyDog: sign in with the account that runs your program. You need an existing account, plus read or write access to anything you do not own that the Zap should touch.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is saved once, and every LoyaltyDog trigger and action in your Zaps reuses it from then on, so you never sign in twice.

First Zap

Your first Zap: a spreadsheet of completed transactions

GoalEach time LoyaltyDog completes a transaction that meets your condition, add it as a new row in your spreadsheet.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the trigger

Create a Zap, choose LoyaltyDog as the app and Transaction Complete as the event, then select your LoyaltyDog connection. It is an instant trigger, shown with a lightning bolt.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent transactions of the account, so you map the next steps on a real one rather than a guess.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter and fill the three boxes: the field to look at, the rule and the value. A number rule only works on numbers.

  4. 04

    Add the spreadsheet step

Add your spreadsheet app with its add-row action and map the transaction fields into the columns. With a filter in the chain this is a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each step once and read what came back. When the row looks right, click Publish to switch the Zap on. Transactions completed before that stay out.

Triggers

The LoyaltyDog triggers

3 events start a Zap when something happens in LoyaltyDog, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

Customer Change

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a customer is changed (created/updated/deleted).”

Your Zap hears about every change to a member of your LoyaltyDog program: a customer created, updated or deleted. You decide which of those events starts it, and the customer's details come along for the next steps.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
your contact list in another tool should follow the program, including the people who leave it.
Watch out
Customer Event Type is mandatory, so set the kind of change you want before you test.
2

New Customer Activity

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a customer performs an action.”

Starts a Zap when a customer does something in LoyaltyDog. Where Customer Change follows the record itself, this one follows what members actually do in the program.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
a member's action should set off something elsewhere, like a note in your team's tool or a points award.
Watch out
Activity Type is required, so pick the activity you care about before testing.
3

Transaction Complete

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new transaction is processed and completed.”

Fires once a new transaction has been processed and completed in LoyaltyDog. That makes it the clean starting point for anything that should only count finished sales.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
your sales log or reporting sheet should hold every completed transaction without anyone exporting it.
Watch out
only transactions completed after the Zap is published come through.
Actions

The LoyaltyDog actions

LoyaltyDog gives you 7 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Customer

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new customer in the program.”

Adds a new member to your LoyaltyDog program, so someone who signed up in another app starts with a card without being keyed in twice.

When to use it
a sign-up or a first purchase happens outside LoyaltyDog.
Watch out
a Zap fed by Customer Change that also creates customers can set itself off again and again.
2

Delete Customer

Action

In Zapier“Delete a customer in the program.”

Removes a customer from the program. It is the step for keeping LoyaltyDog in line when someone leaves another system.

When to use it
a member asks to be removed and that request lands in another tool first.
Watch out
Customer ID is required, and a delete is not something to test on a real member.
3

Broadcast Message

Action

In Zapier“Broadcast message to customers in the program.”

Sends one message to the customers in your program, all from a single Zap step.

When to use it
news posted elsewhere should reach your members through LoyaltyDog.
Watch out
Message is the one required field, and every run of the Zap sends the broadcast again, so put a filter in front if the trigger fires often.
4

Award Customer Points

Action

In Zapier“Award points to a customer in the program.”

Gives a number of points to a member in your program. It turns events from other apps into rewards without anyone opening LoyaltyDog.

When to use it
an activity elsewhere deserves points.
Watch out
both Customer ID and Points are mandatory, so the Zap has to know who and how many before it runs.
5

Update Customer

Action

In Zapier“Update a customer in the program.”

Changes the record of a member who is already in the program, so details edited in your other tools reach LoyaltyDog too.

When to use it
a customer corrects their details somewhere else.
Watch out
Customer ID is required, and with no search on Zapier it must come from an earlier step.
6

Claim Customer Offer

Action

In Zapier“Claim an valid offer to a customer in the program.”

Attaches a valid offer to a customer in the program, so the reward is waiting for them in LoyaltyDog.

When to use it
a condition met in another app should unlock a specific offer for that member.
Watch out
you need both the Customer ID and the Offer ID, so keep the offer's ID at hand when you set the step.
7

Redeem Current Customer Offer

Action

In Zapier“Redeem the current active offer of a customer in the program.”

Uses up the offer a customer currently has active. It closes the loop when the reward is consumed outside LoyaltyDog.

When to use it
the offer was honored through another tool and the program should know it is spent.
Watch out
it redeems the current active offer only; it needs the Customer ID and nothing tells it which offer to pick.
When it breaks

When a LoyaltyDog Zap breaks

Zapier lists no help article for LoyaltyDog, so the traps below are the general ones, applied to a loyalty program.

None of them shows on day one. They show up as a sale missing from your log or a task count climbing faster than your members. When a Zap misbehaves, open our Zapier troubleshooting page.

  • Past transactions never come through

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Transactions and customers from before stay where they are; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • Customer Change feeding Update Customer

A Zap that updates a customer while listening to customer updates sets itself off again and again, and burns through your task count fast.
  • A bulk import gets held back

When a trigger suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of running every Zap.
  • An empty Customer ID

Five actions need a Customer ID and there is no search to find one. If the trigger does not carry it, the step has nothing to send and fails.

FAQ

LoyaltyDog and Zapier: common questions

01Is the LoyaltyDog Zapier integration free?
Yes on the Zapier side, because LoyaltyDog is not a premium app and runs on the free plan. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps, so Transaction Complete followed by one action fits. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, and that needs a paid plan. Your LoyaltyDog subscription is a separate matter that Zapier does not cover. Check the plan you are on before adding steps.
02How many tasks does a LoyaltyDog Zap use?
One task per action that succeeds, and none for the trigger. A Zap that logs each completed transaction in a spreadsheet costs one task per transaction. If the same Zap also awards points, each run counts two. An action that fails is not counted. Instant triggers cost nothing either: LoyaltyDog sending the event to Zapier is free, only the work done after it is billed. So the count tracks actions, not events.
03Does a LoyaltyDog Zap start straight away?
Yes. All three LoyaltyDog triggers are instant: the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan. The interval grid of 15 minutes on the free plan, 2 on Professional and 1 on Team and Enterprise only concerns polling triggers, and LoyaltyDog has none. In the editor, these Zaps show a lightning bolt. That makes the free plan as fast as a paid one here.
04What do you need to connect LoyaltyDog to Zapier?
An existing LoyaltyDog account and a Zapier account. From the Apps page, click + Add connection, search LoyaltyDog, click Add connection, sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. If the Zap should touch things you do not own on that account, you also need read or write access to them. Once saved, the connection serves every LoyaltyDog step in every Zap. You do not need to repeat it for each new Zap you build.
05Where does the Customer ID come from?
From an earlier step, because LoyaltyDog has no search on Zapier. Delete Customer, Award Customer Points, Update Customer, Claim Customer Offer and Redeem Current Customer Offer all require it. The simple way is to start the Zap from a LoyaltyDog trigger, such as Customer Change or New Customer Activity, and map the customer it brings. Starting from another app works only if that app already holds the LoyaltyDog Customer ID.
06What if the LoyaltyDog operation you need is not there?
Then Zapier cannot do it with LoyaltyDog today. The editor offers three triggers and seven actions, and no search step, so a Zap cannot look up a customer, an offer or a transaction. Check first whether the result can come from a trigger instead, since Customer Change and Transaction Complete already carry their data. If it still cannot be built, compare what Make and n8n offer for LoyaltyDog before choosing.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for LoyaltyDog?
It depends on the criteria, not on a winner. Zapier gives you three instant LoyaltyDog triggers and seven actions ready to use, a three-step connection and billing per successful action, with the free plan covering a two-step Zap at full speed. That suits flows driven by LoyaltyDog events. If you need to look customers up or chain many steps per run, check how Make and n8n handle LoyaltyDog and how they bill.
