Overview

What the Memberstack Zapier integration does for a Webflow site

The Memberstack Zapier integration links the login and payment layer of your Webflow site to your other tools. Memberstack tells Zapier when a member is created, changes plan, cancels or edits their details, and Zapier can create, update or delete members and handle their free plans for you.

Three results come up most. A CRM that knows each member's plans: Member's Plan Added fires every time a plan is added, and Memberstack lets one member hold several plans, so your CRM gets each one. A renewal log: Member's Plan Updated fires when a plan's status or payment period changes, for example when a subscription renews, ready for a spreadsheet row. A signup from a form elsewhere: Create Member creates a member with no plan or a free plan from an email address.

All 6 triggers are instant: Memberstack tells Zapier the moment the event happens, so the plan's checking interval never slows these Zaps, free plan included.

What Zapier does not do here. The plan actions only handle free plans: no action adds a paid plan to a member. The only search, Find Member, looks a member up by ID, not by email. And no Zap goes back over members who signed up before it was switched on. To compare with another builder on the same tool, see our Memberstack Make integration page.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words you will meet in the editor, in plain English.

Zap
The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it, for example a plan added to a Memberstack member.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like creating a member.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The number on your plan counts those and nothing else.
Instant trigger
A trigger the app reports itself, the moment the event happens, so nothing waits for a check. All 6 Memberstack triggers work this way.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it there otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something that already exists in an app, such as a member by ID, so later steps can use what it found.
Cost

What a Memberstack Zap really costs

Memberstack is not a premium app on Zapier: it runs on the free plan. Its triggers never cost a task; only an action that succeeds is counted, and one that fails is not.

  • Premium appNo, free plan works
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Trigger cost0 tasks
  • Failed actionNot counted

The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps, each capped at two steps: one trigger, one action. A second action, a filter or the Find Member search makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. In a three-action Zap, each successful action counts on its own. The grid below is the checking interval of polling triggers; it does not apply to Memberstack, whose 6 triggers are all instant.

Connect

Connect Memberstack to Zapier in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Open your connections

In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. A connection is your Memberstack account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every step that needs it.

  2. 02

    Pick Memberstack

Search for Memberstack in the dialog, select it, then click Add connection. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Sign in to Memberstack in the tab that opens and grant Zapier access to the account. Every step that uses Memberstack, in any Zap, can then reuse this one connection.

First Zap

Your first Zap: record each new plan in your CRM

GoalWhen a plan is added to a member, keep only the plans you care about and update the member's contact in your CRM.

  1. 01

    Build: set the trigger

Create a Zap, choose Memberstack and the Member's Plan Added event, then your connection. The filter below makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of your account, so the mapping is done on a real one. Read what the step carries.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon, add Filter, then fill the field, the rule and the value. A text rule for a plan name; a number rule on text never lets the Zap through.

  4. 04

    Add the CRM action

Add your CRM and map to the field that finds the contact a value the trigger brought back. Check at test which fields Memberstack actually sends.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Test each step once, read what came back, then click Publish to switch it on. For guided practice, see our Zapier training.

Triggers

The 6 Memberstack triggers

6 events start a Zap when something happens in Memberstack, and 6 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.

1

New Member

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a new member is created.”

Starts your Zap when a new member is created in Memberstack, whatever plan they end up on. It is the entry point for anything that should happen once per person.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
add every signup from your Webflow site to your email tool.
Watch out
as a general rule, a Zap that writes where its own trigger watches can set itself off again; check at test what your action writes.
2

Member Deleted

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a member is deleted.”

Fires when a member is deleted in Memberstack. Your other tools will not notice the deletion by themselves, so this keeps them honest.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
unsubscribe the person from member-only emails, or archive the contact in your CRM.
Watch out
check at test which details of the deleted member the trigger still carries before mapping them.
3

Member's Plan Canceled

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a member's plan is canceled.”

Reacts when one of a member's plans is canceled. It is about one plan of that member, not the member account itself.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
alert whoever handles retention, or move the member onto a free plan with Add Free Plan to Member.
Watch out
a member can hold several plans, so check at test which plan the event concerns.
4

Member's Plan Added

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a plan is added to a member. Memberstack allows member's to have multiple plans, and this trigger fires each time a plan is added to a member.”

Goes off each time a plan is added to a member. Memberstack lets one member have several plans, and this trigger fires for every one of them.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
record each plan a member takes in your CRM, or tag them in your email tool.
Watch out
since it fires for each plan added, a member who gets two plans can start the Zap twice; each successful action costs a task.
5

Member's Plan Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a member's plan is updated. Any time the status of the plan updates or payment period updates (e.g. when a subscription renews, if the billing period is edited in the Stripe dashboard, etc.).”

Responds whenever a plan's status or payment period changes: a subscription that renews, or a billing period edited in the Stripe dashboard, for example.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
keep a renewal log in a spreadsheet, one row per change.
Watch out
it covers several kinds of change at once, so if only some changes matter, add a filter on the field that tells them apart, checked at test; a filter means a paid plan.
6

Member Updated

Instant trigger

In Zapier“Triggers when a member’s email, custom fields, or metadata are updated. Does not fire on password change.”

Kicks in when a member's email, custom fields or metadata change. A password change does not set it off.

How it fires
the app tells Zapier the moment it happens, so the Zap starts right away, whatever your plan.
When to use it
push a new email address or a custom field value to your CRM.
Watch out
a Zap that writes back into Memberstack members can, as a general rule, set off its own trigger; check at test.
Actions

The 5 Memberstack actions

Memberstack gives you 5 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Add Free Plan to Member

Action

In Zapier“Adds a free plan to a member.”

Gives an existing member a free plan. Member and Plan are both required.

When to use it
after Member's Plan Canceled, keep the person on a free tier instead of losing them.
Watch out
the plan has to be a free one; for a paid plan there is no Zapier action.
2

Create Member

Action

In Zapier“Creates a member with no plans or a free plan.”

Creates a Memberstack member from an email address, with no plan or with a free plan. The Plan field expects the ID of a free plan.

When to use it
someone signs up through a form outside Webflow and should get a member account.
Watch out
paid plans cannot be attached here; this action stops at free ones.
3

Delete Member

Action

In Zapier“Deletes a member.”

Deletes a member by ID. Two options can also delete the matching Stripe customer and cancel their Stripe subscriptions.

When to use it
a deletion request from your support tool should remove the person from Memberstack.
Watch out
the Stripe options reach beyond Memberstack; leave them off unless that is the plan.
4

Remove Free Plan From Member

Action

In Zapier“Removes a free plan from a member.”

Takes a free plan away from a member, with Member and Plan required. Paid plans are not in its scope.

When to use it
a trial-style free access ends once the member upgrades elsewhere.
Watch out
pick the plan carefully, since a member can hold several.
5

Update Member

Action

In Zapier“Updates a member.”

Changes an existing member, picked by their ID. The Verified field is among what it can set.

When to use it
a member is confirmed in another tool and Memberstack should reflect it.
Watch out
you need the member ID; if your trigger only has an email, check at test what it carries, since Find Member works by ID only.
Searches

The Memberstack search

1 search step looks for data that already exists in Memberstack, so a later step can use it.

A search step sits at the bottom of the action list, under the SEARCH heading of Action event. It finds an existing record so later steps can use it; some fields offer + Add search step to insert one just before. Adding it makes the Zap multi-step.

1

Find Member

Search

In Zapier“Lookup a member by id.”

Retrieves a Memberstack member from their ID, the one required field. It does not search by email.

When to use it
another tool stored the member ID and the next step needs the member's current details.
Watch out
if your trigger only carries an email, this search cannot help; check at test what IDs you have.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds nothing stops the Zap and skips the steps that relied on it. Switched on, the Zap carries on empty-handed.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
This box turns a search into find-or-create. Memberstack offers no such variant on Zapier, so you will not see it on Find Member.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out when several items match: keep the first one (the default), stop the Zap, or hand all of them on at once.
When it breaks

When a Memberstack Zap breaks

Zapier attaches no help article to Memberstack and lists no rate limit for it. What breaks comes from Zapier's general rules and from a few fields.

  • No catch-up on the past

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Members and plans from before stay out; moving that backlog is a separate job.
  • A Zap that sets itself off

A Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again and burn tasks. Check at test what each Zap writes back into Memberstack.
  • Flood protection after an import

A trigger that suddenly returns a huge batch, after a bulk import or a migration, can be held back by Zapier's flood protection.
  • One member, several plans

Member's Plan Added fires each time a plan is added, so a member who gets two plans can start the Zap twice. Each successful action is a task.
  • Free plans only

Create Member, Add Free Plan and Remove Free Plan only accept free plans. There is no Zapier action that attaches a paid plan.
  • Stripe options on deletion

Delete Member can also delete the Stripe customer and cancel Stripe subscriptions. Check both boxes are off unless that is the goal.

FAQ

Memberstack Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Memberstack Zapier integration free?
Yes, for two-step Zaps. Memberstack is not a premium app on Zapier, so the free plan can use it. That plan gives 100 tasks a month and an unlimited number of Zaps, each with one trigger and one action. New Member followed by an email-tool action fits. Add a filter on the plan, the Find Member search or a second action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.
02How many tasks does a Memberstack Zap use?
One task for each action that succeeds, and nothing for the trigger. A Zap that updates your CRM on Member's Plan Added costs one task per plan added, not per member, since the trigger fires for each plan. Member's Plan Updated also fires on renewals and billing changes, so it can run more than you expect. An action that fails is not counted. Multiply the actions per run by the events you expect in a month to see if 100 tasks is enough.
03Does Memberstack trigger Zaps in real time?
Yes, all 6 Memberstack triggers are instant. Memberstack tells Zapier the moment a member is created, deleted, updated or changes plan, and the Zap starts right away whatever your plan. The checking interval of Zapier plans, 15 minutes on the free one, applies only to polling triggers, and Memberstack has none. These Zaps show a lightning bolt in the editor, the mark of an instant trigger, so you can confirm it before publishing.
04What does it take to connect Memberstack to Zapier?
An account on Memberstack, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch. You connect it once from the Apps page of Zapier with + Add connection: pick Memberstack, sign in in the tab that opens and allow access. If you plan to create members or manage plans from Zapier, set up a free plan in Memberstack first, since those actions only take free plans.
05Can a Zap add a paid plan to a Memberstack member?
No. The Memberstack actions on Zapier only handle free plans: Create Member takes no plan or a free plan, and Add Free Plan to Member and Remove Free Plan From Member work on free plans only. Paid plans are not reachable from a Zap. What you can do is react to them: Member's Plan Added, Member's Plan Updated and Member's Plan Canceled fire on any plan change, so other tools learn about paid plans straight away.
06What if the Memberstack operation you need is not listed?
Then Zapier cannot do it with this app, and no setting adds it. Check first whether two steps cover it: a trigger that carries the member ID followed by Update Member replaces a lookup by email, for instance. Paid plans and email lookups are not offered. The Memberstack page on Zapier shows the current list of operations, so check it there before you plan a Zap around a gap, rather than relying on an older copy.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Memberstack?
Judge it on your flow, not on a ranking. Start with direction: on Zapier, Memberstack reports everything instantly but only writes members and free plans. If your flow needs to attach paid plans, Zapier will not do it here. Then step count: a one-trigger, one-action Zap stays free, a filter on plans does not. Then volume: one task per successful action, per plan added. Price that same flow on each tool before choosing.
