What the Mini Course Generator Zapier integration does
The Mini Course Generator Zapier integration links Mini Course Generator, a tool to build and sell short courses, to Zapier, the tool that chains apps together. Learner activity in your courses can start work in another app, and another app can enrol or remove learners in your course collections, with nobody doing it by hand.
Three results people build with it. A completion log: Course Completed starts the Zap, and a spreadsheet action adds a row each time someone finishes a course. Enrolment from a form: a form tool starts the Zap, and Add Learner puts the person into the right course collection. A contact list that grows with your audience: New Learner starts the Zap, and your email list tool adds the learner as a contact.
What Zapier does not do for Mini Course Generator matters too. There is no search, so a Zap cannot check whether someone is already enrolled before acting. There is no action to create or edit a course: the two actions add a learner to a collection or remove one, nothing else. On the plus side, the three triggers are instant, so your plan does not slow them down, and the free plan reacts as fast as the paid ones.
If you build on Make instead, see our Mini Course Generator Make integration page.
Zapier vocabulary in one minute
Eight words you will meet in the editor, in plain English.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event that starts the Zap, such as Course Completed. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for it.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, like Add Learner.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. The monthly count on your plan is a count of these.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app reports itself: it calls Zapier when the event happens, so nothing waits for a check. All three triggers here work this way.
- Polling trigger
- A trigger Zapier checks on a timer, asking the app for new items and keeping only the unseen ones. This app has none on Zapier.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets the condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action, a filter or a search makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Mini Course Generator Zap really costs
Short version: a learner event starting the Zap is free, and each action that goes through costs one task.
- TriggersNever count as tasks
- Free plan100 tasks a month, unlimited Zaps, two steps each
- Premium appNo, it works on the free plan
None of the three triggers ever costs a task. Each action that succeeds counts as one, so enrolling a learner and logging it in a sheet spends two per run, and a failed action is not counted. Mini Course Generator is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, where each Zap stops at two steps. A filter or a second action makes it a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is for polling triggers: it does not apply to the three triggers of this app, which are instant on every plan.
Connect Mini Course Generator to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open your connections
Go to the Apps page of your Zapier account and click + Add connection. What you need first: an account on Mini Course Generator, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
- 02
Pick Mini Course Generator
In the dialog, search Mini Course Generator by name, pick it, then click Add connection. A new tab opens so you can sign in with the account that holds your courses.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection, your account linked once and then reused by every step that needs it, now serves all three triggers and both actions.
Your first Mini Course Generator Zap
GoalLog in a shared spreadsheet the course completions that meet a condition you set.
- 01
Set the trigger
Create a Zap, pick Mini Course Generator as the app and Course Completed as the event that starts it. Choose your connection, then the course to watch in Course, a required field.
- 02
Test with real completions
Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent completions of that course, so you map from a real one instead of guessing what comes through.
- 03
Add the filter
Add a Filter step from the plus icon and fill its three boxes: the field to look at, the rule, and the value. A filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it needs a paid plan.
- 04
Map the row
Add the spreadsheet action and map the completion from the trigger into its columns. Test that step once and read what came back. For a guided start, see our Zapier training.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch the Zap on. From then on, each completion of that course reaches Zapier right away, whatever your plan, and goes through the filter.
The Mini Course Generator triggers
3 events start a Zap when something happens in Mini Course Generator, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
Course Collection Completed
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a user completes a course collection.”
When someone gets to the end of a whole course collection, this trigger starts the Zap, which makes it the natural place to mark the end of a program.
Course Completed
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a user completes a course.”
Each time a learner finishes one course, Zapier hears about it through this trigger and can pass the news to another tool.
New Learner
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new learner is added to a collection.”
A learner joining one of your collections sets off the Zap, so the rest of your tools learn about the newcomer without an export.
The Mini Course Generator actions
Mini Course Generator gives you 2 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Add Learner
ActionIn Zapier“Adds a learner to your course or collection.”
Enrols a person in a course or a collection of yours, straight from whatever started the Zap.
Remove Learner
ActionIn Zapier“Removes a learner from the selected course collections.”
Takes a learner out of the course collections you select, so access can end without anyone going into the app.
When a Mini Course Generator Zap breaks
Mini Course Generator brings no documented error or limit of its own on Zapier.
What goes wrong comes from how Zapier works and from the required fields. Four cases to know before you publish. If a Zap still misbehaves, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
Nothing from before the Zap
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Learners and completions recorded before are not picked up, and moving them is a separate job.A Zap that sets itself off
As a general precaution: a Zap that writes into the very place its own trigger watches can set itself off again and again, and burn through your task count fast.A huge batch gets held back
If a trigger suddenly sends a huge batch at once, after a bulk import or a migration for instance, Zapier's flood protection can hold the Zap back.Required fields with no value
Both actions need Course Collection and Email, plus Name or Send email to the user?. Map each one from a step that always carries a value, and check the result at test.
