What the Nearby Now Zapier integration does for you
Nearby Now is a local marketing platform built around checkins, short records of work done at a place, and the reviews customers leave. Zapier links it to your other tools through a Zap: an automation made of one trigger (the event that starts it) and one or more actions (what it then does for you). Nearby Now can play both roles.
Reviews that reach the team. New Review Completed starts a Zap when a customer finishes a review. Send it to a sheet and a chat channel, and the people who did the job see the feedback without logging in.
Checkins created from another app. Create Checkin (Address) and Create Checkin (Geolocation) write a checkin in Nearby Now from data another app holds: who did the work, a description, and either an address or a latitude and longitude.
A review request sent with the checkin. Create Checkin & Request Review (Address) and its Geolocation twin do the same and also send a review request to the customer, whose name is required.
What Zapier does not do here: there is no search, so a Zap cannot look up an existing checkin, customer or review. The actions only accept the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. And no Zap looks back: reviews completed before you publish it are never picked up. To weigh Zapier against other tools, open our Make vs Zapier comparison.
Zapier words, in plain English
Seven words carry the rest of this page. One line each, then they are used as they are.
- Zap
- The automation you build on Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time the trigger event happens.
- Trigger
- The event in an app that starts the Zap. Once the Zap is on, Zapier waits for that event and nothing else.
- Action
- What the Zap does once it has started: the step that writes, sends or moves something for you, such as creating a checkin.
- Task
- The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Your plan counts those, not the triggers.
- Instant trigger
- A trigger the app itself reports: it calls Zapier the moment the event happens. All three Nearby Now triggers work this way.
- Filter
- A step that lets the Zap go on only when what arrived meets a condition you set, and stops it otherwise.
- Multi-step Zap
- Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action or a filter makes one, and it then needs a paid plan.
What a Nearby Now Zap costs
Nearby Now is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan. The bill comes from actions, never from the trigger.
- Trigger0 tasks
- Each successful action1 task
- Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
- Premium appNo
The trigger never costs a task. Each action that succeeds counts once, so a Zap with two actions uses twice what a one-action Zap uses; an action that fails is not counted. The free plan gives 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps: one trigger and one action. A filter or a second action makes the Zap multi-step, which needs a paid plan. The interval grid below is Zapier's general one for polling triggers: it does not apply to Nearby Now, whose three triggers are all instant.
Connect Nearby Now to Zapier in three steps
- 01
Open the Apps page
In your Zapier account, go to Apps and click + Add connection. A connection is your Nearby Now account linked once, then reused by every step that uses Nearby Now.
- 02
Pick Nearby Now
Type Nearby Now in the search box of the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A new tab opens, and the sign-in of the next step happens there.
- 03
Sign in and grant access
Sign in to Nearby Now in that tab and give Zapier access to the account. You need an account on the app, plus read or write access on anything you do not own yourself and want the Zap to touch.
Your first Nearby Now Zap: a review log with a heads-up
GoalEach completed review is added to your review sheet, then announced in your team chat.
- 01
Set the trigger
Create a Zap, pick Nearby Now and New Review Completed, then your connection. The trigger is instant: no interval comes into play.
- 02
Test the trigger
Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent reviews of the connected account, so the next steps are mapped on a real one.
- 03
Add the row
Add your spreadsheet as the first action and map the review details you want to keep into its columns. Test the step and read what came back.
- 04
Add the message
Click the plus icon, add your team chat and write the message with the review details. Two actions make a multi-step Zap, which needs a paid plan.
- 05
Publish
Click Publish to switch the Zap on. Only reviews completed after that moment start it. For a guided build on your own account, see our Zapier training.
The 3 Nearby Now triggers
3 events start a Zap when something happens in Nearby Now, and 3 of them are instant: the app calls Zapier straight away, whatever your plan.
New Checkin
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new checkin is created.”
A checkin is a short record of work done at a location. Each new one in Nearby Now starts the Zap, which makes it the natural signal that a job has been logged and that someone elsewhere may need to know.
New Customer
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a new customer is created.”
Whenever a customer is added in Nearby Now, the Zap starts with that customer in hand. It keeps your contact list or your mailing tool from lagging behind the platform.
New Review Completed
Instant triggerIn Zapier“Triggers when a customer completes a review.”
When a customer finishes a review, the Zap hears about it. It is the event to watch if feedback should reach the people who did the work, or end up in a sheet where reviews are kept.
The 4 Nearby Now actions
Nearby Now gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.
Operations index
Create Checkin (Address)
ActionIn Zapier“Create a Checkin using an address to define location.”
Creates a checkin placed by its address. It requires the Checkin User Email, a Checkin Message describing the work, the street address, city, state abbreviation, postal code and country code.
Create Checkin (Geolocation)
ActionIn Zapier“Create a Checkin using a lat/long geolocation to define location. Only US, CA, GB, and AU are supported.”
Here the location comes from a latitude and a longitude instead of an address. It also requires the Checkin User Email and a Checkin Message.
Create Checkin & Request Review (Address)
ActionIn Zapier“Create a Checkin and send a Review Request simultaneously using an address to define location.”
Two things in one step: a checkin placed by its address, and a review request sent to the customer. On top of the address fields, it requires the Customer Name.
Create Checkin & Request Review (Geolocation)
ActionIn Zapier“Create a Checkin and send a Review Request simultaneously using a lat/long geolocation to define location. Only US, CA, GB, and AU are supported.”
The position-based twin of the previous action: a checkin from latitude and longitude, plus a review request, with the Customer Name required.
When a Nearby Now Zap breaks
Zapier attaches no help article to Nearby Now and no rate limit is published. What can go wrong comes from the fields the actions require and from how Zapier works.
These six cases are the ones to check on a Nearby Now Zap. If a Zap still misbehaves after that, see our Zapier troubleshooting guide.
A user email Nearby Now does not know
Checkin User Email must be a valid, active user email on your Nearby Now account. So the customer's email does not belong in that field.A country outside the list
The checkin actions accept only US, CA, GB and AU. A job in another country cannot become a checkin through these actions. An address field left empty
The address actions require street, city, state, postal code and country. Check at the test that every one of them receives a value. No look back
A Zap only reacts to what happens after you switch it on. Checkins, customers or reviews that already existed are never picked up.A Zap that sets itself off
A Zap that writes into the place its own trigger watches can start itself again and again and burn through your tasks. Keep the trigger and the write apart.A sudden flood
After a bulk import or a migration, a trigger that suddenly returns a huge batch can be held back by Zapier's flood protection.
