Overview

What the Nova Zapier integration does for your leads

Nova is a CRM built to work through large volumes of marketing leads while they are still fresh. The Nova Zapier integration feeds it without code: when a lead appears in another tool, Zapier creates it in a Nova list, so nobody copies phone numbers by hand.

One action, Create Lead, but it covers the three flows that matter most. Ad leads straight into the call list: a lead form from your ad platform fills in, and the contact is in Nova right after. Website requests without retyping: a contact form or a quote request becomes a Nova lead with its phone number. Spreadsheet leads that stop sitting idle: a new row added by a partner or an event team turns into a lead someone will actually call.

Since Nova has no trigger, the speed of each Zap depends on the app that starts it. An instant trigger on that side sends the lead at once; a polling one waits for its check, at the interval of your plan.

What the integration does not do is just as useful to know. Nothing in Nova can start a Zap: no trigger tells another app that a lead was called or won. Zapier cannot look up a lead either, nor update or delete one. It only adds. If you weigh other tools, start with the Make vs Zapier and n8n vs Zapier comparisons.

Vocabulary

Zapier vocabulary in one minute

Seven words. Read them once and the rest of the page follows.

Zap
The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run every time the trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event that starts the Zap. Nova has none, so the trigger always comes from another app, such as a form or an ad platform.
Action
What the Zap does once it has started: here, the step that creates a lead in Nova for you.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action your Zap completes successfully. Each lead created in Nova is one task.
Polling vs instant
A polling trigger is checked on a timer; an instant one is reported by the app the moment it happens. The trigger app decides which.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it quietly otherwise.
Connection
Your Nova account linked to Zapier once, then reused by every Zap that sends leads into it.
Cost

What a Nova Zap really costs

Each lead created in Nova is one task. The trigger in the other app never costs anything.

  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only
  • Cost per leadOne task per lead created
  • Premium appNo, available on every plan

Zapier bills an action only when it succeeds: a lead Nova refuses is not counted, and neither is the waiting for new data. Nova is not a premium app, so it runs on the free plan, which allows two steps: one trigger and Create Lead. Add a filter to keep only some leads and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan. If the starting app polls, the grid below sets how fast leads arrive in Nova.

Connect

Connect Nova to Zapier in three steps

  1. 01

    Open the connections page

In your Zapier account, open the Apps page and click + Add connection. A dialog opens with a search box: type Nova and pick it from the list of results.

  2. 02

    Sign in to Nova

Click Add connection. A tab opens on Nova: sign in with the account that owns the lists your leads should land in. If a colleague owns them, you also need write access.

  3. 03

    Grant access

Allow Zapier to reach the account. The connection is saved and offered to every Zap that writes into Nova, so you set it up once and simply pick it afterwards.

First Zap

Your first Nova Zap: website leads with a phone number, straight to the call list

GoalEvery website form that comes with a phone number becomes a Nova lead in your call list, so reps start dialing without retyping anything.

  1. 01

    Create the Zap

Start a new Zap and pick your form tool as the app that starts it, with its new-entry event. Nova cannot start a Zap, so the trigger always lives elsewhere.

  2. 02

    Test the trigger

Run the test. Zapier brings back the three most recent entries, so you map Nova's fields on a real lead instead of a blank one.

  3. 03

    Add the filter

Click the plus icon and add Filter. Choose the phone field and a rule that checks it exists. Use a text rule here: a number rule on a phone field never passes.

  4. 04

    Add Create Lead

Add Nova, choose Create Lead, pick the target list and map the phone number and name from the form. Test this step on its own.

  5. 05

    Publish

Click Publish. The filter makes this a multi-step Zap, so it runs on a paid plan. On the free plan, drop the filter and keep two steps.

Actions

The Nova action

Nova gives you 1 action. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create Lead

Action

In Zapier“Creates a new new lead and add it to an existing list in the CRM.”

Adds a new lead to one of the lists already set up in your Nova CRM, using what another app just captured. The lead is ready to be worked as soon as it arrives, which is the whole point for fresh marketing leads.

When to use it
a prospect fills in an ad form or a quote request and should be called while the interest is still fresh.
Watch out
the Phone Number field is required, so a source without phone numbers makes every run fail.
When it breaks

When a Nova Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Nova, so these are the general traps that hit a lead pipeline hardest.

Most broken Nova Zaps fall into one of these four cases, and each has a fix in the editor. If one keeps resisting, head to the Zapier troubleshooting page.

  • Leads captured before publishing never arrive

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Leads already sitting in your form or spreadsheet stay there; import them separately.
  • No phone number, no lead

Create Lead requires a phone number. When the source sends an empty field, the step fails. It costs no task, but the lead never reaches Nova.
  • A bulk import gets held back

If the starting app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import for example, Zapier's flood protection can hold it back instead of creating every lead.
  • The filter blocks the free plan

A filter makes the Zap multi-step. Multi-step Zaps need a paid plan, so on the free plan keep two steps or upgrade.

FAQ

Nova Zapier integration: frequent questions

01Is the Nova Zapier integration free?
Yes, for two-step Zaps. Nova is not a premium app, so the free plan can use it, with 100 tasks a month and unlimited Zaps. The free plan builds one trigger and one action: a lead source, then Create Lead. As soon as you add a filter to keep only some leads, or a second action, the Zap becomes multi-step and needs a paid plan. No price is listed here, because plan grids change too often to stay accurate.
02How many tasks does a Nova Zap use?
One task per lead created in Nova. The trigger in the other app costs nothing, and neither does the waiting for new leads, however often Zapier checks. A lead that Nova refuses, for example because the phone number is missing, is not billed either. With 100 tasks a month on the free plan, that is up to 100 leads sent to Nova each month, so a busy ad campaign may call for a paid plan quickly.
03Does Nova receive leads in real time?
It depends on the app that starts the Zap, because Nova has no trigger of its own. If that app reports new leads instantly, Create Lead runs straight away. If it is a polling trigger, Zapier checks it on a timer: every 15 minutes on the free plan, every 2 minutes on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise. Check the trigger of the source app before promising your sales team instant leads.
04What does it take to connect Nova to Zapier?
A Nova account and a Zapier account. From the Apps page of Zapier, you add a connection, search Nova, sign in on the tab that opens and grant access. Zapier then writes leads with the rights of that account. Make sure the account can add leads to the list you plan to use, and that the list already exists, since Create Lead only adds to an existing one and never creates a list.
05Why does Create Lead fail on some leads?
Most often because the phone number is empty. It is the one required field of Create Lead, and many forms leave it optional. When a lead arrives without it, the step fails and the lead never reaches Nova, although no task is billed. Two fixes: make the phone field mandatory in the source form, or add a filter that only lets leads with a phone number through, which needs a paid plan.
06What if the Nova operation you need does not exist?
Then the integration cannot do it, and it is better to know before building. Nova on Zapier only creates leads: there is no trigger to react when a lead is called or won, no search, no update and no delete. Anything that should happen after a lead is in Nova has to happen inside Nova itself. For other needs, an automation specialist can check whether another route exists with the tools you already use.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Nova?
It depends on your criteria, not on a winner. Zapier offers Nova ready to use with Create Lead, which suits a team that wants leads flowing without technical setup. Make and n8n give more control over complex scenarios and over how runs are billed, but check first whether each has a ready-made Nova module; without one, you would connect it yourself. Compare on available operations, billing model and who will maintain the flows.
