What is the best ad spy tool in 2026?

Start with Meta's free Ad Library. Pay for a tool only once you know what's missing: ad history, more networks, or a place to save what you find.

An ad spy tool shows you the ads other brands are running: the creative, the copy, the landing page, and how long the ad has been live. That last one matters most. Nobody keeps a money-losing ad running for weeks.

The short answer: Foreplay is our top pick for a brand or small creative team, with an ad library and a swipe file from $49 a month billed yearly for one user ($20 per extra user), and competitor tracking from Workflow ($149 a month billed yearly, $175 monthly). BigSpy covers the most networks for the money and has a free plan. Meta's Ad Library and TikTok's Creative Center are free and enough to get started. TrendTrack and Minea are built for ecommerce product research. PowerAdSpy and AdSpy are the veterans, loved by affiliates. Atria goes deepest on analysis, at a team price.

One thing to know: nearly every top-ranking list for this search is written by one of these vendors, who ranks itself first. Here, every listing spells out the tool's weak spot too.

How we scored

How we compared and scored

On this search, the top results on Google are posts from TrendTrack, RedTrack, Voluum and affiliate sites. Each puts its own tool or partner on top, and prices for the same plan differ from one post to the next. Few of them start with what is free, even though Meta and TikTok publish their own ads.

We read each vendor's pricing page and product pages, Meta's page on its Ad Library, TikTok's help article on its Creative Center, then user feedback on forums. The core requirement: the tool must show other brands' ads, with at least their start date, and let you search by brand or keyword. AI ad generators have their own page.

Dropispy, a French tool, shows its prices (free plan, Premium at $29.90 a month or $14.90 billed yearly) but its page doesn't say which networks it covers. Without that core point checked, it isn't ranked. AdPlexity isn't ranked either: it sells one subscription per channel (native, mobile, push), built for traffic buyers rather than brands. Both are covered further down, alongside Google's and LinkedIn's free libraries.

The five criteria carry equal weight. It's the grid every review on our site uses, so a tool keeps the same score everywhere. Atria already has a review with us, and its score is carried over unchanged.

1
Best ad spy tool for most teams

Foreplay

4.1/5

Foreplay started from a simple need: save an ad from Meta's library before it disappears. Saved ads go into your swipe file, organized into folders and boards your team shares. They stay there after the advertiser turns them off.

Around that, Foreplay built its own ad library, fed by its community, with unlimited AI search on every plan, and Spyder, which follows the brands you pick and keeps every new ad they launch. Spyder isn't on Basic. It starts with Workflow (10 to 15 brands depending on where you look on Foreplay's page, unlimited on annual).

The catch is team pricing. Basic covers one user ($20 per extra user), and competitor tracking, the part that really pays off, needs Workflow at $149 a month billed yearly. There's a 14-day money-back guarantee after your first charge; after that, a cancelled annual commitment isn't refunded, not even pro rata.

Standout features
  • Ads kept after they stop running
  • Unlimited AI search on every plan
  • Automatic brand tracking (Spyder) from Workflow
+Pros
  • ✓The most pleasant tool on this list
  • ✓No usage limits on any plan, per Foreplay
  • ✓14-day money-back on the first monthly charge
−Cons
  • ✗No brand tracking on Basic
  • ✗No refunds on annual
  • ✗Card required for the trial
Verdict

The best pick if ads are your job. Run the 7-day trial on monthly, then move to annual only if you open it every week.

2
Most versatile, with a free plan

BigSpy

3.9/5

BigSpy is the Swiss army knife here. The free plan shows Facebook with 10 searches a day and no downloads. Starter opens Facebook and Instagram with unlimited searches and 50 creative downloads a day. Growth adds Google Ads, YouTube, X, TikTok and Pangle, with 300 downloads a day. Ultimate covers all 11 networks, including Pinterest, Yahoo and Unity. For teams, Scale gives you 5 seats at $299 a month billed yearly, $399 monthly.

Here's the trap: TikTok only comes with Growth, at $119 a month billed yearly. If TikTok is your main channel, Starter shows you nothing you care about. Check the network column before you pay.

Refunds are tight: 24 hours after the first payment, and only the first one (not renewals or upgrades). Start on the free plan to judge result quality in your niche.

Standout features
  • A real free plan
  • 11 networks on Ultimate
  • Image and feature search
+Pros
  • ✓Free plan, then TikTok, Google and YouTube from Growth
  • ✓Unlimited searches from Starter
  • ✓Scale plan with 5 seats for teams
−Cons
  • ✗TikTok only from Growth
  • ✗24-hour refund window
  • ✗Busy interface at first
Verdict

The right pick to see wide without blowing the budget. Start free, then take Growth only if TikTok or YouTube matter to you.

Best free tool

Meta Ad Library

3.8/5

Meta's Ad Library shows every active ad running across Meta's products: Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and the Audience Network. Type a brand, pick a country, and you see each of its ads with its start date, versions and placements. It's the fastest way to see what a competitor is pushing this week.

Two cases give you more. Ads delivered in the European Union stay visible for one year after their last impression, even once stopped, with estimated EU reach and age, gender and location targeting. Ads about social issues, elections or politics stay for seven years, with spend and reach.

The limit: outside those cases, a stopped ad vanishes, and Meta shows no spend or results for a commercial ad. No swipe file, no alert when a competitor launches. That's exactly what paid tools sell.

Standout features
  • The official, up-to-date source
  • One-year archive for EU-delivered ads
  • No subscription
+Pros
  • ✓Free with unlimited searches
  • ✓Start date on every ad
  • ✓Spend data on political ads
−Cons
  • ✗No saving or alerts
  • ✗Nothing on commercial ad results
  • ✗Outside the EU, stopped ads disappear
Verdict

The first tool to open, before you buy anything. If you spend more than an hour a week in it, a paid tool will win that time back.

Best for finding products that sell

TrendTrack

3.7/5

TrendTrack ties ads to the stores running them. Start from an ad, jump to the store, and see its other ads and products. It's the tool most focused on one question: does this product really sell?

Plans differ by detailed store lookups: 5 a week on Starter, 30 on Pro, unlimited on Business. The Meta, TikTok and Google libraries show on Pro and Business; for Starter the pricing page isn't clear, so check when you sign up.

The limit: 5 lookups a week runs out fast when you're product hunting. Budget for Pro if you'll use it for real.

Standout features
  • Ad to store in one click
  • Business includes 3 seats
  • 30% off on annual
+Pros
  • ✓Low entry price on annual
  • ✓Built for product research
  • ✓Extra seat at $29
−Cons
  • ✗5 lookups a week on Starter
  • ✗Monthly prices hard to read on the page
  • ✗Less useful for a service brand
Verdict

The best pick if you look for products before you look for ad ideas. Take Pro, not Starter.

Best Facebook-first ecommerce spy tool

Minea

3.6/5

Minea is a European ecommerce spy tool. It covers all Facebook ads and influencer placements, with AI ad analysis and transcripts counted per month: 10 on Starter, 50 on Premium, unlimited on Business. Brand tracking comes with every plan, unlimited on Premium, which adds 10 tracked stores.

TikTok, Pinterest and Snapchat ads are listed as "coming soon" on the pricing page. If a review sells you Minea for TikTok, it's ahead of the product.

The limit: refunds are case by case within 24 hours of the first purchase, and only for new users. Cancelling stops future charges, but the rest of the billing period isn't refunded, so put the date in your calendar.

Standout features
  • AI analysis of ads
  • Influencer placements covered
  • Unlimited brand tracking from Premium
+Pros
  • ✓Quarterly discount
  • ✓AI breakdowns included
  • ✓10 tracked stores on Premium
−Cons
  • ✗TikTok still coming soon
  • ✗Tight AI quotas on Starter
  • ✗Case-by-case refunds
Verdict

A solid pick for Facebook-first ecommerce. For TikTok, look at BigSpy Growth or the Creative Center for now.

6
Best free tool for TikTok

TikTok Creative Center

3.5/5

Creative Center is TikTok's free hub for advertisers. Its Top Ads section shows a collection of high-performing ads. TikTok's help center lists filters for region, industry and campaign objective; the page itself adds language, format and likes, and lets you sort by reach or CTR.

According to TikTok's help center, each ad comes with a second-by-second graph that pinpoints the most engaging moment in the video. That's a strong clue for where to put your hook.

The limit: TikTok picks these ads. It's not every ad from a competitor, and you can't follow a specific brand. For that there's TikTok's Commercial Content Library: it lists ads shown in the European Union with their publish date, last-seen date, targeting and how many people saw them, for up to a year after they last ran. Outside the EU, you need a paid tool such as BigSpy Growth or PiPiAds.

Standout features
  • Sort by reach and CTR
  • Peak moment of each video
  • Free
+Pros
  • ✓Free, no subscription
  • ✓Filters by region and objective
  • ✓Data from TikTok itself
−Cons
  • ✗A selection, not a full catalog
  • ✗No competitor tracking
  • ✗No team saving
Verdict

A must if you sell on TikTok, and free. Open it before every shoot to see which hooks hold up in your market.

Best for covering many networks

PowerAdSpy

3.4/5

PowerAdSpy sells plans by number of networks. Basic covers Facebook and Instagram. Standard adds Pinterest and the Google Display Network. Platinum adds YouTube, native and Google Search. Palladium covers all 11, including LinkedIn, TikTok, Quora and Reddit.

The monthly-to-annual gap is the biggest on this list: Palladium drops from $399 monthly to $119 billed yearly. The flip side: annual is charged upfront in one go.

The trial costs $1 for three days on Basic, then the plan starts at $69 unless you cancel before day three. On Standard, Platinum and Palladium, the trial is $7 for three days, then rolls into $99, $279 or $399 a month. Set a reminder.

Standout features
  • 11 networks on Palladium
  • LinkedIn, Reddit and Quora covered
  • $1 trial
+Pros
  • ✓Great annual pricing
  • ✓Networks rivals skip
  • ✓Plans easy to read by network count
−Cons
  • ✗Very high monthly prices
  • ✗No annual price shown for Platinum
  • ✗Trial turns into a subscription fast
Verdict

The right pick if you buy on niche networks. Below Palladium, BigSpy covers the big social networks for a similar price; Platinum is where PowerAdSpy adds YouTube, native and search ads.

Best TikTok specialist

PiPiAds

3.3/5

PiPiAds grew up on TikTok and that's still its home turf: search across TikTok ads, plus a Facebook section and Meta's library (Instagram, Audience Network, Messenger, Threads). It runs on credits: each result costs 1 credit and each detailed ad page 20, out of 30,000 credits a month on Basic.

The Ad Tracker is the real reason to pay: 2 tracked advertisers on Basic, 10 on Advanced, 20 on Flexible, 100 on Enterprise. That's the thing the free Creative Center can't do.

The limit: there's a single user on Basic and Advanced, and credits drain quickly if you open a lot of ad pages. For two users you need Flexible at $180 a month (200,000 credits, 20 tracked advertisers), before Enterprise at $900. The free trial (500 credits, no detailed ad pages) is enough to judge the database in your market, not much more.

Standout features
  • TikTok ad specialist
  • Advertiser tracking from Basic
  • Facebook and Meta's library too
+Pros
  • ✓Most TikTok-focused tool on this list
  • ✓Free trial, no payment
  • ✓Advertiser tracking included
−Cons
  • ✗One user on Basic and Advanced
  • ✗Credit model to keep an eye on
  • ✗Price jump: Flexible at $180, then Enterprise at $900
Verdict

The right pick if TikTok is your main channel and you want to follow specific competitors. For Facebook alone, Meta's library and Foreplay are enough.

Best historical Facebook and Instagram database

AdSpy

3.1/5

AdSpy is one of the oldest tools around. It claims 213M+ ads and 30M+ advertisers across 225 countries and 88 languages, on Facebook and Instagram only.

Its edge is filters others lack: search inside ad comments, by affiliate network, affiliate ID or offer ID, and by landing page technology. For an affiliate, it's the most direct way to see who is pushing which offer.

The limit: a single $149 a month plan, no annual and no entry tier, and nothing beyond Meta. For a brand, that's a lot for what Meta's free library already shows.

Standout features
  • Search inside comments
  • Affiliate network filters
  • 213M+ ads in the database
+Pros
  • ✓Filters built for affiliates
  • ✓Near-unlimited usage, per AdSpy
  • ✓Sort by run time
−Cons
  • ✗Facebook and Instagram only
  • ✗$149 a month, no entry plan
  • ✗Less useful for a brand
Verdict

An affiliate tool first. If you sell your own brand, Foreplay or BigSpy will serve you better for less.

Best for deep analysis as a team

Atria

2.9/5

Atria is more than a library. Core includes 5 seats, tracking for 50 brands, AI search across the library, and tools to write scripts, copy and ad concepts. It also analyzes your own ad accounts, up to 5 on Core.

It's the most complete tool here for a team that ships a lot of creative. You need to know performance-marketing vocabulary to get the most out of it.

The limit is price: $129 a month billed yearly, $219 billed monthly, then $549 billed monthly for Plus. On Atria's page those monthly prices appear struck through next to the annual price, with the saving spelled out ($1,080 a year on Core). Under a few thousand dollars of monthly ad spend, it's out of proportion.

Standout features
  • 5 seats included on Core
  • 50 tracked brands
  • Analysis of your own accounts
+Pros
  • ✓Most complete for a team
  • ✓Extra seat at $20
  • ✓Creative AI built in
−Cons
  • ✗Expensive for small ad budgets
  • ✗Support rated slow in reviews
  • ✗Learning curve
Verdict

Save it for teams spending enough on ads to pay it back. For spying alone, Foreplay is enough.

Real cost

What you'll actually pay

The big price is almost always the annual one, paid upfront. Monthly can more than double it. Two real cases: just you, then a team of five.

Just you, for a year

Meta Ad Library and TikTok Creative Center: $0. PowerAdSpy Basic: $27 a month billed yearly, $331 for the year per PowerAdSpy. TrendTrack Starter: $34, $408. Foreplay Basic and BigSpy Starter: $49, $588. On monthly, Foreplay is $59 and BigSpy $69: $708 and $828 over twelve months.

A team of five

Foreplay Workflow: $149 a month billed yearly for 5 users. BigSpy Scale: $299 for 5 seats. Atria Core: $129 for 5 seats, but $219 monthly. TrendTrack Business: $111 for 3 seats plus 2 × $29 = $169. Foreplay Basic for five: $49 + 4 × $20 = $129, with no brand tracking.

Hidden costs

No TikTok on BigSpy Starter, no brand tracking on Foreplay Basic, 5 lookups a week on TrendTrack Starter, Minea's AI quotas, PowerAdSpy's trial turning into a $69 plan on day three. These are what push you up a tier.
  • Always compare monthly and annual.
  • Check your network is in the plan, not just in the tool.
  • Note the trial end date when a card is required.
  • Read the refund policy before paying for a year.
  • Start with Meta's and TikTok's free libraries.
  • Count the seats your team needs.
Field tips

Six habits for useful ad spying

What media buyers share on forums, whatever tool you use.

01

Sort by run time, not likes

Method

An ad running for weeks is profitable, or the advertiser would have killed it. Likes get inflated; run time much less. Start with ads live for a month or more.

Rule of thumb
Live 30+ days
02

Count versions of the same ad

Signal

When a brand spins one idea into ten creatives, it found an angle that works and it's scaling it. In Meta's library, check how many versions an ad has. It's a stronger signal than one lone ad.

Signal
Many versions of one ad
03

Search an EU country

Free

In the EU, Meta keeps ads for a year after their last impression. Pick France or Germany as the search country and you also see stopped ads: what the brand tried, then dropped.

EU archive
1 year after last impression
04

Save it the same day

Trap

Outside the EU, a stopped ad leaves the library. If you like an ad, keep it now: a screenshot, or a swipe file like Foreplay's that keeps it after it stops.

Rule
Save right away
05

Open the landing page

Method

The ad is half the story. The landing page tells you the price, the offer and the promise that convert. Write all three down every time: that's where the real ideas are.

Note
Price, offer, promise
06

Borrow the angle, not the asset

Caution

Reusing an ad's angle is the job; reusing its image or video risks a takedown and a dispute. Keep the idea, rebuild everything else with your brand and your own footage.

Rule
Angle yes, creative no
How to choose

Three questions before you pay

Before you pay, answer these questions.

Which networks do you buy on?

Facebook and Instagram only: Meta's library, then Foreplay or Minea. TikTok: Creative Center, then BigSpy Growth or PiPiAds. LinkedIn, Reddit, native: PowerAdSpy Palladium.

Ideas or products?

Ad ideas for your brand: Foreplay or Atria. Products that sell: TrendTrack or Minea. Affiliate offers: AdSpy.

How many people will use it?

Just you: an entry plan is enough. A team: look at included seats (Foreplay Workflow, BigSpy Scale, Atria Core, TrendTrack Business) rather than paying per extra user.
  • One network? Start free.
  • Your own brand? Foreplay.
  • Ecommerce? TrendTrack or Minea.
  • Many networks? BigSpy or PowerAdSpy.
  • Big ad team? Atria.
Outside the ranking

Other ad libraries worth knowing

These aren't ranked, but they fill gaps the tools above leave, and most of them cost nothing. If you buy search, B2B or native traffic, start here before paying for anything.

Google Ads Transparency Center (free)

Look up an advertiser by name or website, then filter by date and region. Each advertiser page shows the name, location, the entity paying for the ads, a verified or unverified badge, and the ads served over a given period. It's the only free way to see a competitor's Search, YouTube and Display ads in one place, and it's the first stop if Google is where your budget goes.

LinkedIn Ad Library (free)

It lists ads that ran on LinkedIn and keeps them for one year after their last impression. You can search by company or advertiser, payer, keyword, country and date range; for ads shown in the EU, you also get impression ranges and targeting settings. If you sell B2B, this is where the paid spy tools are weakest, so use it first.

TikTok Commercial Content Library (free, EU)

TikTok publishes ads shown in the European Union with their publish date, last-seen date, targeting and how many people saw them, for up to a year after they last ran. Unlike Creative Center, it lets you look up a specific advertiser. The catch is coverage: only EU ads are in it for now.

AdPlexity (native and mobile)

One subscription per channel: Native at $249 a month ($208 billed yearly), Mobile at $199 ($166 billed yearly), plus separate products for push, desktop and social. It's built for native and mobile traffic buyers and affiliates, not for a brand running Meta ads, which is why it sits outside the ranking.

Dropispy (French)

Free plan, Premium at $29.90 a month or $14.90 billed yearly (150,000 credits a month), Business at $249.90. Its page doesn't spell out which networks it covers, so check that on the free plan before you pay.

What Meta's library won't show you

Outside the EU, Meta's Ad Library shows no spend, no reach and no targeting for a commercial ad, and only while it's active. For ads delivered in the EU, it adds estimated EU reach, age, gender and location targeting, the advertiser and the payer, and keeps the ad for a year after its last impression. Spend is published only for ads about social issues, elections or politics, which stay in the library for 7 years. Detailed targeting data is limited to approved researchers. Any tool that shows you a competitor's budget is estimating it.
  • B2B: start with LinkedIn Ad Library.
  • Search and YouTube: Google Ads Transparency Center.
  • TikTok ads in the EU: TikTok's Commercial Content Library.
  • Native or mobile traffic: AdPlexity.
  • Meta budgets: treat any number as an estimate.
FAQ · 12 questions

Ad spy tools · FAQ

  • Is it legal to spy on competitors' ads?
Yes. Ads are public, and Meta and TikTok publish their own libraries. The problem is reusing an image, video or copy as is. Keep the angle, rebuild the creative.
  • How do I see a competitor's Facebook ads for free?
Open Meta's Ad Library, pick a country, choose "All ads", and type the page name. You see every active ad, its start date and versions. Pick an EU country to also see ads stopped in the last year.
  • How do I see a competitor's TikTok ads?
TikTok's Creative Center shows a selection of top ads, not every ad from a brand. To follow a specific competitor you need a paid tool that covers TikTok: BigSpy from Growth, or PiPiAds, which specializes in TikTok. For ads shown in the EU, TikTok's Commercial Content Library also lists an advertiser's ads.
  • Can I see a competitor's ad spend?
Not for commercial ads. Meta only publishes spend for ads about social issues, elections or politics. Run time and number of versions are your best clues. Be wary of tools showing estimated spend: it's an estimate, not data.
  • What's the best ad spy tool for dropshipping?
TrendTrack or Minea, which link the ad to the store and product. TrendTrack for the lowest annual entry price, Minea if Facebook and influencer placements are your focus. BigSpy Growth if TikTok matters.
  • Do paid tools show more ads than Meta's library?
Not necessarily more active ads, since Meta shows them all. Paid tools keep stopped ads, cover other networks, sort by run time and alert you when a competitor launches. You're paying for the time saved.
  • Foreplay or BigSpy?
Foreplay if you make ads and want to organize finds as a team; BigSpy if you want a free start, then TikTok, Google and YouTube. Both begin at $49 a month billed yearly.
  • How long do ads stay in Meta's Ad Library?
While active, everywhere. Once stopped, a year if delivered in the EU, and seven years for ads about social issues, elections or politics. Elsewhere, they disappear.
  • Does Meta's Ad Library show everything?
No. Outside the EU, a commercial ad is visible only while it's active, with no spend, reach or targeting. For ads delivered in the EU, Meta adds estimated EU reach, age, gender and location targeting, the advertiser and the payer, and keeps the ad for a year after its last impression. Spend is only published for ads about social issues, elections or politics.
  • Are there free ad libraries for Google and LinkedIn?
Yes. Google's Ads Transparency Center shows an advertiser's ads, filterable by date and region. LinkedIn's Ad Library keeps ads for a year after their last impression and lets you search by company, keyword, country and date range. Both are free.
  • What's the best ad spy tool for TikTok?
Start with TikTok's free Creative Center to see what works in your market. To follow specific competitors, BigSpy from Growth or PiPiAds, which is built around TikTok. If you target the EU, TikTok's Commercial Content Library also lists an advertiser's ads for free.
  • Is PowerAdSpy's $7 trial really $7?
For three days. On Standard, Platinum and Palladium, the plan then renews at $99, $279 or $399 a month unless you cancel first. Basic's trial is $1 and rolls into $69 a month.
