What's the best invoicing software for freelancers in Spain?

Eight tools compared on what an expat autónomo actually needs: compliant invoices, IRPF withholding, and a quarterly tax return you can file without panic.

Short answer: Holded has the highest score, and its Starter plan (€19 a month before VAT, €9.50 for the first three months) prepares your VAT and income tax forms with no invoice cap, in an English interface. For less, if you file your own taxes, go with Quipu. Every plan prepares your Modelo 303 (quarterly VAT) and Modelo 130 (quarterly income tax prepayment), for €17 a month before VAT once the three half-price months end, or €168 a year. If you want unlimited invoices and users, with the option to hand your taxes over later in the same tool, pick Cuéntica (€9 to €59 a month). If you bill fewer than five clients from your phone, TS Facturas costs €8 a month. And if you invoice about once a week, Anfix prepares the 303 and 130 for €4.99 a month on an annual plan.

Freelancing in Spain means more than sending invoices. Every quarter you file VAT and prepay income tax. Invoices to Spanish companies carry a withholding. And from mid-2027, under the law as it stands, your invoicing software must comply with Verifactu, Spain's anti-fraud invoicing rule. Most English guides explain the rules and stop there. We compared the tools on the question you actually have: what does the software do for you, and what does it cost over a year.

How we compared and ranked

Our Verifactu software guide for freelancers covers compliance. This page starts from daily life: a freelancer sending five to fifty invoices a month who has to file VAT and an income tax prepayment four times a year, often in a language that isn't their own. For a newcomer to the Spanish system, that quarterly filing is where the choice really gets made.

For each tool we read its official pricing page and noted the plans, the monthly price after the promo, the entry plan's limits and the list of tax forms it prepares. Then we read recent user reviews, starting with the worst ones. Tools without a readable price, or that don't say what they prepare for the tax office, were left out.

Each tool keeps the same score on every page we publish. Rank follows the overall score. Holded comes first: under its new pricing, the €19 Starter plan prepares the VAT and income tax forms with no invoice cap. The profile awards above tell you which one fits the way you work.

1
Highest rated, from invoices to accounting

Holded

4.1/5

Holded has the highest score in this ranking, and its current pricing backs that up for a freelancer too. It has a dedicated autónomos tab. The Light plan is free: one user, 20 invoices a year, Verifactu included. Starter, at €19 a month before VAT, makes invoices and the expense scanner unlimited, connects one bank and prepares the VAT and income tax forms, so your 303 and 130. If your gestoría is a Holded partner, it gets access at no cost. The interface also comes in English, which matters if Spanish isn't your first language.

Read the price carefully. The €9.50 shown in large type is a 50% discount for three months. After that, Starter is €19 a month before VAT, €22.99 with it, and €228 over a full year (our math). That's more than Quipu Starter billed yearly (€168), for a broader tool: accounting, cash flow, projects. Stock is a paid add-on (the Inventario module, from €25 a month).

Reviews mention invoices landing in clients' spam folders and slow support on complex cases; priority phone and email support is only on the Advanced and Premium plans. Not for you if you just want to send ten invoices a month and nothing else. Already on it and feeling the limits? Read our guide to switching from Holded.

Standout features
  • Free Light plan, 20 invoices a year
  • VAT and income tax forms from Starter
  • English interface
  • Free access for your partner gestoría
+Pros
  • ✓Highest score in this ranking
  • ✓Verifactu on every plan
  • ✓14-day trial, no card
−Cons
  • ✗Intro price lasts three months
  • ✗Stock is a paid add-on
  • ✗Invoices sometimes flagged as spam
Verdict

The best pick if you want one tool from your first invoice to full accounting, in English if you need it. Start on Light, and budget €19 a month from month four of Starter, not €9.50.

Best for invoicing from your phone

TS Facturas

3.9/5

TS Facturas, formerly Billin, does one thing simply: invoices from your phone, on iPhone or Android. Verifactu, Facturae (the format for billing public bodies) and TicketBAI invoices are unlimited on every plan. In the Basque Country, it's the simplest option in this ranking.

Plans are counted in clients, not invoices. Básico is €8 a month before VAT, or €6.60 billed yearly (€80), for up to 5 clients. A copywriter working for six agencies a year moves to Pro: €17 monthly, €14 yearly, up to 50 clients. Ilimitado removes the cap for €28 (€23 yearly). No free plan, but a 30-day trial with no card.

For your quarter, it won't help much. Its freelancer page highlights an IRPF withholding calculator, not Modelo 303 and 130 preparation, so you'll need a gestor or an export to their software. Reviews raise two complaints: pushy Kit Digital bundles (Spain's public digitalization grant) and an ad you can't remove from invoice emails.

Standout features
  • iPhone and Android app
  • Unlimited Verifactu, Facturae and TicketBAI
  • IRPF withholding calculator
  • 30-day trial, no card
+Pros
  • ✓Simplest on a phone
  • ✓TicketBAI from €8
  • ✓Clear monthly and yearly pricing
−Cons
  • ✗5 clients on Básico
  • ✗Doesn't prepare 303 or 130
  • ✗Ad in invoice emails
Verdict

The right tool if a gestor files your taxes and you just want to invoice fast. Count last year's clients first: the sixth one means a new plan.

3
Best if you file your own quarterly taxes

Quipu

3.8/5

Quipu is the cheapest tool that prepares your whole quarter with no invoice cap, and its pricing page says it plainly: from Starter, the entry plan, it prepares your Modelo 303 (quarterly VAT), Modelo 130 (income tax prepayment) and Modelo 111 (withholding you apply to other professionals), plus the annual 390 and 190 summaries. Invoices and quotes are unlimited. You snap expense receipts with the mobile app, it reads 30 a month on Starter, and your quarter fills itself as you go.

Read the price carefully. The €8.50 shown in large type is a 50% discount for three months. After that, Starter is €17 a month before VAT, €20.57 with it. Paid yearly it's €168, which works out at €14 a month: you pay for 10 months out of 12. Solution (€30) reads 250 receipts a month and adds chat and phone support, while Starter only gets email. If you'd like a professional to file for you, Quipu sells a separate gestoría service from €80.

The catch is location: the pricing page doesn't mention TicketBAI. If you invoice from Bilbao, San Sebastián or Vitoria, look at TS Facturas. Reviews are among the best in this ranking, with two recurring complaints: slow support on complex cases and weak handling of foreign currencies. Not for you if half your clients pay in pounds or dollars.

Standout features
  • 303, 130 and 111 prepared from Starter
  • Unlimited invoices and quotes
  • Automatic receipt reading
  • Yearly: pay 10 months out of 12
+Pros
  • ✓Your quarter prepares itself
  • ✓No invoice cap
  • ✓Some of the best user reviews here
−Cons
  • ✗No TicketBAI on the pricing page
  • ✗Email-only support on Starter
  • ✗Foreign currencies poorly handled
Verdict

The best pick if you file your own quarterly returns. Use the three half-price months to run one full quarter on it, then switch to yearly billing.

Best to start solo and delegate later

Cuéntica

3.7/5

Cuéntica works like a staircase. Facturación, at €9 a month before VAT, is invoicing only, but with no counter: invoices, quotes and users are unlimited on every plan. Gestión (€19) adds expense tracking. Fiscalidad (€29) prepares your 303, 130, 111 and annual summaries, ready to file with your digital signature, and adds tax advice by chat, email and phone. Fiscalidad Tutelada (€59) has Cuéntica's team file for you.

The point is never switching tools. Start at €9 in year one, move to Fiscalidad when you want to understand your quarter, then to Tutelada when you run out of time. Your history stays in one place. Yearly billing gives two months free: Fiscalidad comes to €290 a year before VAT (our math).

Two limits. TicketBAI (Basque Country) and IGIC (Canary Islands) are handled from Facturación, as the pricing page states. The pricing page mentions no mobile app, though, so if you invoice from a site visit or a trade fair, TS Facturas is handier. And an older review says a Tutelado plan taken mid-year means paying for the months already gone, so get that confirmed in writing. On the plus side, customers praise human support that actually answers, which is rare in this ranking.

Standout features
  • Unlimited invoices and users on every plan
  • 303 and 130 ready to file from Fiscalidad
  • Full delegation with Tutelada
+Pros
  • ✓No counter on the entry plan
  • ✓Praised human support
  • ✓Upgrade without migrating
−Cons
  • ✗No tax forms below Fiscalidad (€29)
  • ✗No mobile app mentioned
  • ✗Tutelado billed from January, per one review
Verdict

The most flexible choice if you're not sure yet whether you'll file alone. Start on Facturación and only move to Tutelada at the start of a year.

Cheapest tool that prepares the 303 and 130

Anfix

3.7/5

Anfix is the pleasant surprise of this comparison. Its Básico plan, €4.99 a month before VAT billed yearly (€5.99 monthly), already prepares the Modelo 303 and 130. No other paid tool here does that at this price. Verifactu is included on every plan, and the pricing page says so.

The low price comes with a counter. Básico stops at 60 invoices, 60 receipts and 60 quotes a year, with one user. One invoice a week fits. Two doesn't. Avanzado, €12.49 yearly (€14.99 monthly), goes to 300 invoices, unlimited receipts, 2 users, and adds the 111. Over a year, Básico costs €59.88 before VAT (our math).

Its limits are depth and service. Reviews are more mixed than Quipu's, the interface is in Spanish, and the pricing page says nothing about TicketBAI. Not for you if your volume is climbing: at 300 invoices a year, Cuéntica or Quipu make more sense.

Standout features
  • 303 and 130 from Básico
  • Verifactu on every plan
  • Receipts counted separately from invoices
+Pros
  • ✓Lowest price with quarterly forms
  • ✓Fine-grained upgrades
  • ✓Trial without a card
−Cons
  • ✗60 invoices a year on Básico
  • ✗Single user
  • ✗No TicketBAI on the pricing page
Verdict

Best value for tax help at low volume. Check your counter in the autumn: past 60 invoices, you'll need to upgrade.

Best if you never want to file again

Declarando

3.5/5

Declarando is an online gestoría with an invoicing app around it. Verifactu invoices are unlimited on every plan. The difference is taxes: Básico costs €29.90 a month before VAT if your own gestor files, or €49.90 if Declarando's team files your quarterly returns. That Básico targets autónomos earning up to €1,000 a month; above that, Pro is €69.90.

Do the yearly math: €49.90 a month is €598.80 before VAT (our math). That's more than Quipu or Anfix, but you never touch your 303 or 130 again. Prices are shown "with the yearly plan", so ask for the monthly price before signing. You get 14 days to claim a refund.

The catch is in the reviews: roughly a quarter are one-star, about hard-to-reach support and Kit Digital disputes. The interface is Spanish only. Judge their responsiveness during the 14-day guarantee before handing over your first quarter.

Standout features
  • Quarterly returns filed for you
  • Unlimited Verifactu invoices
  • 14-day money-back guarantee
+Pros
  • ✓Nothing left to file yourself
  • ✓Your gestor or theirs
  • ✓Price follows your income
−Cons
  • ✗Most expensive option here
  • ✗Monthly price not shown
  • ✗About a quarter of reviews are one-star
Verdict

Worth it if your time is worth more than €50 a month. Test support during the 14-day guarantee, then decide.

Free for your very first invoices

Contasimple

3.4/5

Contasimple has one of the two free-forever plans in this ranking, with Holded Light, apart from the tax office's app. Its plan is narrow: 12 documents a year, 10 clients, and tax forms only on a 30-day trial. Roughly one invoice a month.

Profesional, €12.95 a month before VAT (€10.95 depending on commitment length), goes to 500 documents a year and includes the 303 and 130 plus the annual summaries. Ultimate, €19.95 (€15.95 depending on commitment), removes the limits. The pricing page mixes quarterly and yearly labels, so confirm the amount you'll be charged before paying.

Reviews are the most divided here: slowdowns after an update, charges after cancellation, and digital certificates rejected unless issued by the FNMT (Spain's main public certificate issuer).

Standout features
  • Free-forever plan
  • 303 and 130 from Profesional
  • Annual summaries included
+Pros
  • ✓€0 for your first invoices
  • ✓Quarterly forms under €13
  • ✓Simple tiers
−Cons
  • ✗12 documents a year on free
  • ✗Confirm the amount billed
  • ✗Polarized reviews
Verdict

Handy for your first invoices at no cost. Once you send two a month, compare with Anfix, and keep written proof if you cancel.

The free option from the tax office

AEAT free app

3.2/5

Spain's tax agency (the AEAT) offers its own free Verifactu invoicing app. You log in with a digital certificate, your electronic DNI or Cl@ve. Invoices are compliant by design and there's no subscription to cancel.

It does the bare minimum: no mobile app, no product catalog, no payment tracking, no vendor support, nothing for your 303 or 130, and it's in Spanish. Your gestor will have to rekey or collect your invoices every quarter.

Not for you if you invoice more than a few times a month: the time you lose quickly costs more than Anfix's €4.99, which also prepares your forms.

Standout features
  • Free, run by the tax office
  • Compliant by design
  • Log in with certificate, DNI or Cl@ve
+Pros
  • ✓€0 forever
  • ✓No compliance risk
  • ✓No charges to watch
−Cons
  • ✗No mobile app or catalog
  • ✗No support
  • ✗Nothing for the quarter
Verdict

Enough for three or four invoices a month with a gestor. Beyond that, a €5-a-month tool gives you back more time than it costs.

Your quarter as an autónomo

What your software must handle every quarter

If you come from the UK, the US or elsewhere, the Spanish rhythm takes getting used to. In estimación directa, the regime most consultants, designers and developers use, you file two returns four times a year: Modelo 303 for VAT charged minus VAT paid, and Modelo 130 for a 20% prepayment on your profit since January, minus what you've already prepaid that year. Good software fills both from your invoices and expenses. Invoice-only software means sending everything to a gestor.

Here are the six situations that change your pick.

You bill Spanish companies

If your work counts as a professional activity (consulting, design, translation), your invoice carries 15% income tax withholding, or 7% in your first year and the two after it. Your client pays it to the AEAT for you. Choose a tool that sets withholding per client: Quipu, Cuéntica or Anfix.

You bill private individuals

No withholding on those invoices, but usually 21% VAT. Your 130 really matters then: a tool that prepares it, like Quipu or Anfix, avoids a nasty surprise.

You bill clients outside Spain

An invoice to an EU business is usually issued without Spanish VAT if you're on the intra-EU operators register, and it goes in a separate summary. If you bill in pounds or dollars, check currency handling: it's Quipu's weak spot.

You're in the Basque Country

Verifactu doesn't apply there; TicketBAI does. TS Facturas and Cuéntica support it on every plan. Quipu and Anfix don't list it on their pricing pages, so ask before paying.

You already have a gestor

No need to pay for tax prep twice. Invoice-only software is enough as long as your gestor can log in or pull your invoices: TS Facturas, Cuéntica Facturación or the AEAT app.

You want someone to file for you

Two routes: Cuéntica Fiscalidad Tutelada at €59 a month, or Declarando with taxes from €49.90. Quipu also sells a separate gestoría service from €80.
  • The price in month four, after the promo
  • The entry plan's invoice or client cap
  • Modelo 303 and 130 prepared, and on which plan
  • IRPF withholding set per client
  • TicketBAI if you work in the Basque Country
  • Access for your gestor and a data export
Field tips

Six tips to pay less and close your quarter

What pricing pages leave out, and what freelancers usually find out after paying.

01

Budget for month four's price

Budget

Quipu and Holded show a half price in large type that lasts three months. Quipu Starter then goes from €8.50 to €17 before VAT (€20.57 with it), Holded Starter from €9.50 to €19 (€22.99). At TS Facturas and Anfix, the small number is the yearly-billing price. Pay monthly for your first quarter, file one full return on the tool, then switch to yearly.

Quipu Starter yearly
€168 before VAT
Cuéntica yearly
2 months free
02

Don't pay for tax prep twice

Budget

If your gestor already files your 303 and 130, a plan that prepares them is wasted money. Take an invoice-only plan (Cuéntica Facturación at €9, TS Facturas at €8) and give your gestor access. If you want to drop the gestor, Anfix Básico prepares both forms for €59.88 a year before VAT.

03

Set withholding once per client

Tax

Invoices to companies carry withholding; invoices to individuals or foreign clients don't. Save the rate on each client's record rather than on every invoice. If you qualify for 7%, tell your clients in writing, otherwise they withhold 15%. Under Verifactu an issued invoice can't be edited: a mistake costs you a corrective invoice.

04

Snap your receipts the same day

Method

Your 130 is based on profit, so every missing expense means a bigger prepayment. Quipu reads 30 receipts a month on Starter. Take the photo as you leave the shop, not at quarter-end when the thermal print has faded.

05

Count last year's clients and invoices

Trap

TS Facturas Básico stops at 5 clients, Anfix Básico at 60 invoices a year, Holded Light at 20 invoices a year, Contasimple free at 12 documents. Take last year, add 30% headroom and pick the plan that holds.

TS Facturas Básico
5 clients
Anfix Básico
60 invoices/yr
06

Plan your exit before you sign

Method

Before paying, check you can export your invoices and expenses. Switching tools mid-year makes your quarter messier, so switch in January or right after filing a quarterly return.

FAQ · 8 questions

Invoicing software for freelancers in Spain · FAQ

  • Do autónomos in Spain have to use invoicing software?
No, you can still invoice by hand. But if you use software, it must comply with Verifactu from mid-2027 under the current law, and a delay to 2028 has been announced but not published. In practice, a tool that prepares your 303 and 130 saves more time than it costs once you send a few invoices a month.
  • Is there invoicing software in English for autónomos?
Holded has a full English interface. Quipu has an English site, but the tax forms stay Spanish, as they would anywhere: the AEAT works in Spanish. If English matters most, take Holded: its €19 Starter plan already prepares the income tax forms.
  • Can software replace my gestor?
For a simple autónomo in estimación directa, often yes. Quipu, Anfix, Contasimple Profesional and Cuéntica Fiscalidad prepare the 303 and 130 from your invoices and expenses, and you file them with your digital signature. Keep a gestor if you're on the Beckham regime, have property, several activities or a complex foreign setup.
  • What IRPF withholding goes on my invoices?
Usually 15% on invoices to companies or other professionals, 7% in the year you start and the two following years if you didn't work the year before. Invoices to individuals carry none. The 7% isn't a tax break: you pay less up front and settle the rest in your annual return.
  • Do I need a digital certificate?
Yes, or Cl@ve, to file your own returns and to use the AEAT's free app. The FNMT certificate is the most common; some tools, Contasimple according to its reviews, reject others.
  • What happens if I hit my plan's limit?
You have to upgrade to issue the next invoice. At Anfix the 61st invoice of the year needs Avanzado; at TS Facturas the sixth client needs Pro. Run the numbers before September, not when a client is waiting.
  • Can I deduct the subscription?
Yes. In estimación directa, invoicing software is a business expense and its VAT is recoverable on your 303, as long as the invoice shows your name and NIF. Log it like any other expense.
  • How much does invoicing software cost per year in Spain?
From €0 (AEAT app, Holded Light, Contasimple free) to about €600 before VAT if the service also files your taxes. Our reference points: Anfix Básico €59.88, TS Facturas Básico €80, Quipu Starter €168, Cuéntica Fiscalidad €290, Declarando with taxes €598.80, all yearly and before VAT.
