FieldEdge alternatives: get out of the contract, then pick the right tool

Six reasons shops leave, six tools with public prices, and an exit that starts 60 days before your renewal date.

The short answer: Housecall Pro for a small HVAC or plumbing shop that wants to be running next week, Jobber if you want the cheapest entry plan and room to grow, Service Fusion if you want one flat price with unlimited users, and Kickserv if you plan to stay on QuickBooks Desktop. First, though, check your contract. Under FieldEdge's public terms, it renews for 12 months unless you send written notice at least 60 days before it expires.

The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

The real reasons

Why shops leave FieldEdge, and why it takes a while

FieldEdge is field service software for HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors, owned by Xplor Technologies. It also took over Wintac customers after Wintac support ended in 2022. Plenty of users like its QuickBooks sync, its service agreements and its pricebook. People leave for other reasons: the contract, the pricing, the support and the tech app.

A contract that renews itself

FieldEdge's public SaaS terms renew the agreement automatically for 12-month periods. To stop it, you need written notice at least 60 days before the current term expires. If your term ends June 30 and you write in May, you're in for another year. Check this before you even book a demo elsewhere.

Leaving early costs the rest of the term

The terms define the early termination fee plainly: your monthly fee times the number of months remaining. Leave four months into a 12-month term and you still owe eight. On public review sites, several customers say they tried to cancel over product issues and were told to pay out the contract.

No price until you talk to sales

The pricing page lists three plans (Select, Premier, Elite) and a "Request Pricing" button, with no numbers. FieldEdge says pricing varies with team size and add-ons, and it does not offer a free trial. Some reviewers also say their card processing rate came in higher than what sales quoted.

Everything runs through QuickBooks

QuickBooks Online and Desktop are included on all three plans, and warehouse management on Elite requires QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise with Advanced Inventory. That's great if you live in QuickBooks. If you don't, you pay for a link you never use, and reviewers describe sync bugs when it misbehaves.

Support depends on your plan

Select gets chat support. Email and phone come with Premier, and a dedicated customer success manager only with Elite. Its Trustpilot score sits under 3 out of 5 (software directories rate it higher), with complaints about reps who don't call back, wrong invoices and data that doesn't save.

A rationed tech app

Select includes 2 mobile licenses, Premier 4 and Elite 6. Grow past that and you negotiate. One HVAC company describes problems getting "more and more" frequent in the office and on the techs' phones, and review roundups keep flagging mobile app instability and sync bugs.

The 6 alternatives

FieldEdge alternatives, tool by tool

For each tool: why you'd move to it, who it fits, its catch, how to bring your FieldEdge data over, and what it costs. Prices are the ones each vendor publishes in 2026, in US dollars. We compared the plans that actually include scheduling, the tech app and invoicing, not just the headline price. If you're weighing ServiceTitan too, our guide to switching from ServiceTitan covers the same quote-only model.

01

Housecall Pro: the fastest switch for a small shop

Best for small HVAC shops

Why switch to Housecall Pro. FieldEdge makes you sign before you see a price. Housecall Pro lists its plans, lets you try everything for 14 days without a card, and connects to QuickBooks Online. For a residential HVAC or plumbing shop with a handful of techs, you can see the bill and try the product before talking to anyone.

Who it's for. Home service shops of 1 to 8 people that want a modern app and public pricing.

Who it's not for. Commercial contractors with long project jobs and heavy inventory: you'll outgrow it.

The catch. Pricing steps up by user count: Basic covers 1 user, Essentials 5, MAX 8, and each extra user on MAX costs $35. Our guide to leaving Housecall Pro lists what frustrates its own users.

How to migrate. Connect QuickBooks Online first so customers flow in, then import CustomerList.xlsx and your equipment list to fill the gaps.

Price. Basic $59 a month billed yearly ($79 monthly) for 1 user, Essentials $149 ($189) for 5 users, MAX $299 ($329) for 8 users.

02

Jobber: the lowest entry price, with team plans

Lowest entry price

Why switch to Jobber. Jobber starts cheaper than anything FieldEdge will quote, and its team plans are priced by headcount bands, so you know your bill before you hire.

Who it's for. Owner-operators and growing crews in the US and Canada that want to start small.

Who it's not for. Shops that need deep HVAC service agreements and equipment history front and center.

The catch. The jump from Core to team plans is steep: Core is one user, Connect starts at 5. Read our guide to switching from Jobber for what users push back on.

How to migrate. Import customers from CustomerList.xlsx, then rebuild recurring visits from your agreement list. Keep invoice history in QuickBooks rather than re-importing it.

Price. Core $29 a month billed yearly ($49 monthly). Connect $149 a month yearly for 5 users ($199 monthly), $229 for 10 users, $299 for 15. Grow $229 a month yearly for 5 users ($299 monthly).

03

Service Fusion: one flat price, unlimited users

Flat pricing

Why switch to Service Fusion. If what bugs you about FieldEdge is paying more every time you add a truck, Service Fusion flips the model: every plan includes unlimited users. Your bill changes with features, not headcount.

Who it's for. Growing HVAC and plumbing companies with 8 techs and up, where per-user pricing hurts.

Who it's not for. A two-person shop: Starter at $208 a month is more than Jobber or Housecall Pro for the same team.

The catch. There's no free trial, which is exactly what you're trying to get away from. Ask for a recorded demo on your own data.

How to migrate. Export all five FieldEdge files, then ask for an assisted import of customers and equipment. Run a test batch before you load everything.

Price. Starter $208 a month billed yearly ($245 monthly), Plus $325 ($382), Pro $533 ($627), unlimited users on every plan.

Kickserv: stay on QuickBooks Desktop for less

QuickBooks Desktop

Why switch to Kickserv. Many FieldEdge customers are there because of QuickBooks Desktop. Kickserv keeps that link for a fraction of the cost, with plans priced by user bands instead of per seat.

Who it's for. Crews of 2 to 20 that keep their books in QuickBooks Desktop and want a simple dispatch app.

Who it's not for. Shops that want rich service agreement automation or a large integration catalog.

The catch. QuickBooks Desktop sync costs $50 a month extra on Run. Check exactly which records sync before you commit.

How to migrate. Leave your accounting where it is. Import customers and equipment into Kickserv, connect QuickBooks Desktop, and reconcile on a test batch.

Price. Start $60 a month for 5 users, Run $119 for 10 users (QuickBooks Desktop +$50), Scale $199 for 20 users, 30-day trial.

Synchroteam: service agreements without a contract

No lock-in

Why switch to Synchroteam. Synchroteam runs month to month or yearly, with a two-way QuickBooks Online sync and a first admin seat for free. It's a good fit if you want FieldEdge-style maintenance work without signing for a year blind.

Who it's for. Maintenance-heavy shops on QuickBooks Online that want a 14-day trial before they decide.

Who it's not for. QuickBooks Desktop shops: the advertised sync is with QuickBooks Online.

The catch. Route optimization is Premium only. Some reviewers wish managers could reassign jobs from the mobile app.

How to migrate. Connect QuickBooks Online first so customers come across, then import equipment and open jobs.

Price. Standard $39 per user a month billed yearly ($49 monthly), Premium $64 ($79), first admin free.

Tradify: simple per-user pricing for small crews

Small crews

Why switch to Tradify. Tradify keeps it simple: scheduling, an iOS and Android app, invoices, payments and a QuickBooks sync, priced per user with a full-feature trial.

Who it's for. Trades crews of 2 to 4 people that want clear per-user pricing.

Who it's not for. Shops of ten or more techs that need deep service agreement and equipment tracking: Tradify stays deliberately simple.

The catch. Per-user pricing adds up past five techs, where Kickserv or Service Fusion get cheaper.

How to migrate. Import CustomerList.xlsx, set up your price list from your FieldEdge pricebook, and keep invoice history in QuickBooks.

Price. Lite $47, Pro $51, Plus $61 per user a month, Custom on request, 14-day trial.

The comparison

The 6 alternatives side by side

To make it concrete, take a crew of 5 users on yearly billing. Kickserv Start is $60 a month, Housecall Pro Essentials $149, Jobber Connect $149, Synchroteam Standard $195, Service Fusion Starter $208, and Tradify Pro $255. At 10 users, Kickserv Run is $119, Service Fusion stays at $208, Jobber Connect is $229, Housecall Pro MAX runs $299 for 8 users plus $70 for two more, Synchroteam is $390 and Tradify Pro $510. FieldEdge can't be priced without a sales call.

Exit plan

Leaving FieldEdge in seven steps

Order matters. With FieldEdge, migration starts with the contract, not the export: miss one date and you pay for another year. These steps follow FieldEdge's public terms; your signed order form can override them, so read it first.

01

Find your renewal date and send notice

Day -90

Pull up your order form and find the end of your current term. Count back 60 days: that's your deadline. Give yourself two extra weeks, and send written notice by email and certified mail, asking for written confirmation.

Why so early? Because renewal is automatic and lasts 12 months. Notice that lands 50 days out is too late.

Deadline
60 days before expiry, minimum
Miss it
12 more months
02

Watch for a price increase, your way out

Any time

The public terms say price increases are announced two months ahead. If the increase is higher than CPI, you can terminate without penalty, in writing, within 10 days of the notice.

Save every pricing email from FieldEdge. Ten days go fast, and it's the only mid-term exit that doesn't cost the remaining months.

Window
10 days after notice
Condition
increase above CPI
03

Inventory what's running

Day -60

List your active service agreements with their next visit dates, your pricebook, your estimate templates, user accounts and integrations (QuickBooks, card processing). Note who uses the tech app in the field.

That sheet becomes your cutover checklist. Anything not on it won't make the move.

Time

Output
one row per item
04

Export the five Excel files

Day -30

Five exports cover the core. Customers: Customers, then Export (CustomerList.xlsx). Jobs: from Dispatching (DispatchList.xlsx). Invoices: from Invoices (InvoiceList.xlsx). Quotes: from Quotes (QuoteList.xlsx). Equipment: Reports, then Customer Reports, then Equipment List (EquipmentList.xlsx).

The tip that saves you: set every invoice filter to "All". Otherwise you only get the last six months. If an export fails, split it into one-year chunks.

05

Decide what happens to QuickBooks

Day -30

Your customers and invoices already live in QuickBooks, because FieldEdge pushes them there. Staying on QuickBooks Online? Pick a tool that connects to it (Housecall Pro, Jobber, Synchroteam) and customers come across almost on their own. Staying on Desktop? Look at Kickserv.

Either way, don't re-import your whole invoice history into the new tool. Archive it, and only bring over open balances.

06

Import, then run both side by side

Day -15

Import in this order: customers, equipment, agreements, then open quotes. Start with a batch of 50 customers, check addresses and linked equipment, then load the rest. Give the app to two techs for a week before rolling it out.

Keep FieldEdge open until the last paid day: at the end of the term, access stops immediately.

07

Ask for your data to be deleted

After exit

The terms provide for returning or deleting personal data upon reasonable request, with no guaranteed export window. Once your files check out, ask in writing for your customers' data to be deleted.

Your customers' names, addresses and phone numbers shouldn't sit in software you no longer pay for.

Migration pitfalls

What makes a FieldEdge exit go wrong

The same mistakes show up again and again in stories from shops that left FieldEdge. None of them are technical. They're missed dates, wrong filters and unread contracts.

Shopping for software before reading the contract

Picking a tool takes two weeks. A missed notice date can't be undone. Read your order form first, put the deadline on your calendar, then shop.

Believing you can cancel any month

Some third-party sites describe a month-to-month plan you can cancel any time. FieldEdge's public terms say otherwise: 12 months, auto-renewing. Trust your contract, not a comparison site.

Exporting six months of invoices instead of all of them

The invoice export defaults to the last six months. Set every filter to "All" and check the row count before you close the account.

Forgetting the equipment list

Customers export in one click; equipment hides in the reports. Without it, your techs show up not knowing the unit's model or install date.

Waiting until the last day to export

When the term ends, access stops immediately. Export a month out, do a final export the last week, and keep both.

Comparing a headline price to a full plan

Jobber Core is one user, Synchroteam routing is Premium only, Kickserv's Desktop sync costs extra. Compare the plan that matches what you used in FieldEdge. Our rankings of HVAC software and field service management software break down every tier.

FAQ · 9 questions

FieldEdge alternatives: common questions

  • What's the best FieldEdge alternative for a small HVAC company?

Housecall Pro for most residential shops with up to 8 users: public pricing, a 14-day trial without a card, and QuickBooks Online. Jobber is cheaper to start if you're solo. Our HVAC software ranking covers more options.

  • How much does FieldEdge cost?

FieldEdge doesn't publish prices. You request a quote, and pricing depends on team size and add-ons. There's no free trial. Numbers you see on blogs come from competitors and aren't confirmed by FieldEdge.

  • How do I cancel FieldEdge?

Send written notice at least 60 days before your term expires, and ask for written confirmation. Otherwise the agreement renews for another 12 months under the public terms.

  • Is there an early termination fee?

Yes. The public terms set it at your monthly fee times the months remaining. The one exception: if FieldEdge raises prices above CPI, you have 10 days to terminate in writing without penalty.

  • How do I export my data from FieldEdge?

Five Excel exports: customers, dispatch, invoices, quotes and the equipment list under Customer Reports. Set invoice filters to "All" or you'll only get six months. Do it before the term ends, since access stops right away.

  • What's the best HVAC software that works with QuickBooks Desktop?

Kickserv offers QuickBooks Desktop sync on its Run plan for $50 more a month. Most newer tools, including Housecall Pro and Synchroteam, focus on QuickBooks Online.

  • What's cheaper than FieldEdge?

Every tool on this page publishes a price, which FieldEdge doesn't. The lowest entries are Jobber Core at $29 a month billed yearly for one user, and Kickserv Start at $60 a month for 5 users.

  • FieldEdge vs ServiceTitan: which one?

Both are quote-only and built for established contractors. ServiceTitan targets larger operations; FieldEdge leans on QuickBooks. If neither price works for you, our guide to switching from ServiceTitan lists the same exits.

  • How long does a migration take?

Plan on about three months end to end, two of them set by the notice period. The hands-on work (export, import, pilot) fits in the last month if you start exporting 30 days before the term ends.
