Overview

What the Pidj Zapier integration is for

Connecting Pidj to Zapier lets another tool push contacts and text messages into your Pidj account without anyone copying phone numbers by hand. Zapier sits in the middle: it watches the first app, and when something new shows up there, it asks Pidj to do the SMS part for you.

Three typical results. A clinic or a repair shop sends a confirmation text to every new booking, through Send a Message. A support team asks for feedback after each closed request by launching a text survey prepared in Pidj, through Initiate a Survey. And a marketing team drops every new lead into a drip of messages, through Subscribe to Series, after Get Contact has found that lead's record by phone number.

Texts, surveys and new contacts all need a phone number in one strict format, E.164: a plus sign, the country code, then the number with no spaces.

What Zapier does not do with Pidj: there is no trigger, so no Zap can start when a customer replies, finishes a survey or joins a series. The single search only finds active contacts by phone number, nothing else. And the survey and the series must already exist in Pidj; Zapier sends people into them, it does not build them.

If you are still choosing a platform, the Make vs Zapier comparison is a fair place to start.

Vocabulary

Zapier words, explained once

Eight terms carry this whole page. One line each, in everyday words.

Zap
The automation you build in Zapier: one trigger, then one or more actions that run each time that trigger event happens.
Trigger
The event in an app that starts the Zap. Pidj has none on Zapier, so a form, a sheet or a CRM always plays that part.
Action
What the Zap does once started. Here, the step where Pidj creates a contact, sends a text or starts a survey.
Task
The unit Zapier bills: one action that completes successfully. Your plan's monthly allowance is a count of those.
Polling vs instant trigger
A polling trigger is checked on a timer set by your plan. An instant trigger is reported by its app straight away, with no wait.
Filter
A step that lets the Zap continue only when what arrived meets your condition, and stops it otherwise.
Search step
A step that looks up something already stored in an app, so later steps can use what it found. Pidj's is Get Contact.
Multi-step Zap
Any Zap beyond one trigger and one action. A second action, a filter or a search makes it one, and it then needs a paid plan.
Cost

What Pidj on Zapier costs in tasks

Pidj is not a premium app: it runs on the free plan. Zapier bills in tasks, and only actions that go through are counted.

  • Premium appNo, works on the free plan
  • Free plan100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps
  • Trigger checks0 tasks
  • Adding Get ContactMakes the Zap multi-step

The trigger never costs anything, however often Zapier checks the first app. Each Pidj action that succeeds is one task, and a failed send is not counted. A few apps and actions use more than one task, so check the count after the first runs. The free plan covers 100 tasks a month in two-step Zaps: one trigger, one Pidj action. Put Get Contact or a filter in front of that action and the Zap becomes multi-step, which needs a paid plan.

Connect

Connect your Pidj account in three steps

  1. 01

    Start from the Apps page

In Zapier, open the Apps page of your account and click + Add connection. You need a Pidj account, and access to any group or contact list you do not own but want the Zap to use.

  2. 02

    Find Pidj and add it

Search for Pidj in the dialog, select it and click Add connection. A new tab opens on the Pidj sign-in screen, where you log in with the account your team uses.

  3. 03

    Sign in and allow access

Log in to Pidj in that tab and grant Zapier access to the account. The connection is stored once, then offered again in every Pidj step you add to any Zap.

First Zap

Your first Zap: new lead in, SMS drip started

GoalEvery new lead in a sheet is found in Pidj by phone number, then subscribed to a text series.

  1. 01

    Build: pick the starting app

Create a Zap and choose the app where new leads land, with the event that starts the Zap. Pidj cannot fill this slot, since it has no trigger.

  2. 02

    Test with a real lead

Run the trigger test. Zapier brings back the three most recent items of the connected account; pick one whose phone number already belongs to a contact in Pidj.

  3. 03

    Look the contact up

Add Pidj with Get Contact and map the lead's phone number into Phone Number. This search turns the Zap into a multi-step one.

  4. 04

    Subscribe to the series

Add Subscribe to Series, pick the series in Series ID, and map into Contact ID the contact that Get Contact returned in the step above.

  5. 05

    Test, then publish

Run each Pidj step once and read what came back. Use a number you own, since the step runs for real. Then click Publish to switch the Zap on.

Actions

The 4 Pidj actions

Pidj gives you 4 actions. For each one: what it does for you, when to reach for it, and what to watch out for.

1

Create a Contact

Action

In Zapier“This will create a contact in your account.”

Adds a person to your Pidj account. Three fields are required: First Name, Last Name and Phone Number, the last one in E.164 format, such as +18885552222.

When to use it
a web form collects new customers and you want each one ready in Pidj before anyone texts them.
Watch out
a form that stores the number with spaces or without the country code will fail here, so clean it up first.
2

Initiate a Survey

Action

In Zapier“This will initiate a pre-configured text survey to a contact.”

Starts a text survey already set up in Pidj with one contact. The survey opens straight away with its introduction text, if any, and its first question. Required: Survey ID, To Number and Group Name.

When to use it
collecting a satisfaction score after a ticket closes or an order arrives.
Watch out
the group you send from needs a phone number attached to it.
3

Send a Message

Action

In Zapier“Send a text to a number.”

Texts one number. You fill To Number, again in E.164 format, and Text Body, the message itself.

When to use it
booking confirmations, delivery notices, a quick reminder triggered by another tool.
Watch out
anything beyond 1600 characters is cut off, and emoji or special characters can lower that ceiling, so keep templated messages short.
4

Subscribe to Series

Action

In Zapier“This action subscribes a contact to a series (campaign).”

Enrolls a contact in a series, Pidj's word for a campaign of messages. You choose the series in Series ID and pass the person's Contact ID.

When to use it
new leads who should get an onboarding or nurturing sequence by text.
Watch out
this action wants the contact's ID, not a phone number, so it usually follows Get Contact in the same Zap.
Searches

The Pidj search

1 search step looks for data that already exists in Pidj, so a later step can use it.

A search step does not change anything in Pidj: it finds a contact that already exists and hands it to the next steps. Three settings decide what happens when the result is not the one expected.

1

Get Contact

Search

In Zapier“Finds active contacts based on phone number.”

Looks up an active contact from a phone number, the only field it takes. What it finds, including the contact's ID, becomes available to every step after it.

When to use it
just before Subscribe to Series, which needs a Contact ID rather than a number.
Watch out
it only returns active contacts, so someone who is no longer active comes back as no result.

The three settings every search exposes

  1. Successful if no search results are found?
Left on its default, a search that finds nobody stops the Zap there, and the steps that depended on it are skipped. Switch it on and the Zap carries on empty-handed.
  2. Create X if it doesn't exist yet?
This box turns a search into find-or-create. Get Contact does not offer it, so creating a missing contact takes its own Create a Contact step.
  3. If multiple search results are found?
Three ways out when several contacts match: keep the first one (the default), stop the Zap, or pass all of them on at once.
When it breaks

When a Pidj Zap breaks

Zapier links no help article to Pidj, and no limit specific to the app is on record. The traps below are the ones every Zap shares, seen through SMS.

  • Older leads never get a text

A Zap only reacts to what happens after it is switched on. Contacts already in your sheet or CRM are not picked up; texting that backlog is a separate job.
  • The Zap keeps firing itself

If a step writes back into the very sheet or list that your trigger watches, the Zap sets itself off again and again, and the task count drains fast.
  • A big import gets held back

When the first app suddenly returns a huge batch, after an import or a migration, Zapier's flood protection can hold those runs back instead of texting everyone.
  • The same row never starts the Zap twice

On a polling trigger, Zapier remembers the items it has already seen, so one row does not start the Zap a second time.

FAQ

Pidj Zapier integration: common questions

01Is the Pidj Zapier integration free?
On the Zapier side, yes. Pidj is not a premium app, so it works on the free plan, which includes 100 tasks a month and Zaps of two steps. That covers one trigger in another app followed by one Pidj action, for instance a confirmation text. Adding Get Contact before Subscribe to Series, or a filter, creates a multi-step Zap and needs a paid plan. Your Pidj subscription is billed separately, and this page quotes no price for either tool since those grids change often.
02How many tasks does a Pidj Zap use?
One task for each Pidj action that completes. The trigger in the other app is free, and so are the checks Zapier runs on it. A Zap that sends a text uses one task per run; one that creates a contact and then sends a text uses two. A send that fails is not counted. A few apps and actions take more than one task when they complete, so look at the actual count after the first live runs. On the free plan, that means up to 100 single-action runs a month.
03Do texts go out in real time?
That depends on the app that starts the Zap, because Pidj has no trigger. If that app offers an instant trigger, it alerts Zapier itself and nothing waits. If it uses a polling trigger, Zapier checks on your plan's timer: every 15 minutes on Free, every 2 minutes on Professional, every minute on Team and Enterprise. So on the free plan, a booking confirmation can reach the customer up to 15 minutes after the booking, plus the time the Pidj step takes.
04What does connecting Pidj to Zapier require?
A Pidj account and a Zapier account. Open the Apps page in Zapier, click + Add connection, search for Pidj, click Add connection, sign in to Pidj in the tab that opens and grant access. If the Zap must use groups or contacts that belong to a colleague, the connected account needs read or write access to them. To send surveys, also check that the group you plan to send from has a phone number attached in Pidj.
05Why does Pidj reject the phone number?
Because Pidj expects every number in E.164 format: a plus sign, the country code, then the digits, with no spaces, dots or dashes. Create a Contact, Send a Message and Initiate a Survey all ask for it. Forms and spreadsheets often store numbers the local way, which fails here. Fix the format where the number is collected, or store a clean version in a dedicated column, before mapping it into the Pidj step.
06What if the Pidj operation you need is not there?
Start from what exists: 4 actions (create a contact, send a text, start a survey, subscribe to a series) and 1 search that finds active contacts by phone number. There is no trigger, so nothing on Zapier reacts to a reply, a finished survey or an unsubscribe in Pidj. Surveys and series are built in Pidj itself, not from a Zap. If the gap is a lookup by something other than the phone number, keep that link in the app that starts the Zap.
07Zapier, Make or n8n for Pidj?
Decide on criteria, not on a ranking. On Zapier, Pidj runs on the free plan for a two-step Zap, and anything longer, such as a lookup followed by a subscription, needs a paid plan and costs one task per completed action. Pidj brings 4 actions and 1 search there, and no trigger, so the starting event always comes from another tool. Weigh that against how many texts you expect each month and which of your other apps each platform already connects.
