The ranking is editorial: a sponsored spot is always labeled on its card, and no affiliate link changes a score.

The real reasons

Why teams leave Spark Hire, in six points

Spark Hire is well rated and easy to run for one-way and live interviews. People rarely leave over the core product. They leave over the pricing model and a few candidate-side glitches.

Pricing follows headcount, not usage

The pricing page says it plainly: pricing varies by company size. $249 a month is where it starts. Grow your team and the price goes up, even if you don't run one more interview.

Monthly is capped, annual is the real plan

Month to month, $299 buys 5 jobs and 5 users, and no interview downloads. Unlimited jobs, downloads, live onboarding and a customer success manager all need an annual contract.

Paying for seats in quiet months

Recruiters describe paying for 5 or 10 jobs all year while they hire in waves. A nonprofit that left summed it up: cost was everything for them.

Candidates who get stuck

Videos that don't load, candidates who can't record, older applicants who struggle: these come up again and again in reviews. Some job seekers also refuse one-way video and ask for a call.

Hard to unwind

Service starts at payment and nothing is refunded. One customer says they were still charged every quarter after flagging that the tool was useless to them.

Data held in the US

Spark Hire relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and AWS, with no named region. Fine for most US teams, a question for anyone hiring in Europe.

6 alternatives

Spark Hire alternatives, tool by tool

Each card covers why to switch, who it fits, the catch, how to migrate and the price. We compared only tools whose price is on their official page, in the currency the vendor shows. VidCruiter and Jobma, often listed, publish no prices, so they stay out of the ranking.

01

Hireflix: unlimited one-way interviews for a third of the price

Best value

Why switch to Hireflix. It answers the main complaint about Spark Hire head-on: paying a lot for uneven usage. Even the smallest plan includes unlimited users, jobs and responses. A year of Small costs $900, against at least $2,988 for Spark Hire on annual billing. The Barcelona-based vendor also lists GDPR, SOC 2, SSO and automatic video deletion.

Who it's for. A company under 250 employees that runs one-way interviews all year and wants a fixed budget without counting seats or jobs.

Who it's not for. A team that also needs live interviews in the same tool. Hireflix only does one-way video.

The catch. Only the annual price is shown. The page says annual saves 50% but never prints the monthly figure. Above 250 employees, Custom means a sales call.

How to move from Spark Hire. Start the free month during the last weeks of your Spark Hire contract. Rebuild your questions on a new job and leave live jobs in Spark Hire until they close.

Pricing. Small $75/month under 50 employees, Medium $150/month for 50 to 250, billed annually; Custom on quote. 20% off the first year for nonprofits and companies under 2 years old.

02

Hirevire: the lowest entry price, with real monthly billing

Cheapest

Why switch to Hirevire. Spark Hire makes you sign a year to lift its caps. Hirevire keeps a monthly price on every tier, and Professional (5 jobs, 5 users) mirrors Spark Hire's monthly limits for $149 a month instead of $299. Billed yearly, it drops to $99 a month, or $1,188 a year.

Who it's for. A small team or a staffing agency that hires in bursts and wants to pause between campaigns. Agency gives 20 jobs and 15 users.

Who it's not for. Anyone who must keep videos longer than 90 days without paying extra, or who needs live calls.

The catch. Videos are stored for 90 days; each extra 90 days costs $9 a month. Interviews are capped too: 300 a year on Essentials, 1,200 on Professional.

How to move from Spark Hire. Run the 7-day trial (no credit card) on one simple job, then pick a tier by how many jobs you run at the same time.

Pricing. Essentials $39/month yearly ($49 monthly); Professional $99 ($149); Agency $199 ($249).

Willo: pay only for the roles that are live this month

Most flexible

Why switch to Willo. If you pay Spark Hire for empty seats between hiring waves, Willo flips the model. Lite is billed per live role per month, with no commitment, up to 5 roles, 5 users and 150 assessed candidates per role. A month with no open role costs nothing.

Who it's for. A small business, nonprofit or agency opening two or three roles a quarter. Nonprofits get 50% off.

Who it's not for. A team that needs SSO and an ATS integration from day one: those sit in Enterprise, billed yearly.

The catch. Per-role pricing adds up when roles stay open. Three live roles all year come to $2,124. The pricing page mentions no free trial, and also lists prices in pounds and euros.

How to move from Spark Hire. Open one role on Lite while Spark Hire is still running, and close each role the day it's filled so it stops billing.

Pricing. Lite $59 per live role per month; Enterprise from $3,799 a year (10% off for 2 years, 15% for 3).

Truffle: resume screening, video and tests on credits

Pay as you go

Why switch to Truffle. Truffle swaps the flat fee for credits: one video interview uses 5. Core gives 600 credits a month for $99 yearly or $119 monthly, and Starter at $49 is monthly only. You pay for what you use, not for your headcount.

Who it's for. A US team that gets a flood of applicants and wants screening, video and a short test in one place.

Who it's not for. A team that wants one fixed price and never wants to count usage.

The catch. Credits need watching at high volume. The Scale plan ($499 yearly) is displayed inconsistently on the pricing page, so confirm what it includes before you buy.

How to move from Spark Hire. The 7-day trial gives 30 credits with no card, enough for six video interviews on a real role.

Pricing. Starter $49/month (200 credits); Core $99 yearly or $119 monthly (600); Team $199 ($239), 1,500 credits.

Breezy HR: if you're also leaving Spark Hire Recruit

Replace the ATS

Why switch to Breezy HR. Since buying Comeet in 2023, Spark Hire sells an ATS, Recruit, from $335 a month up to 200 employees, with the price rising with headcount (Growth from $499 up to 500), and only on an annual contract. If you pay for both, Breezy HR covers the whole thing: a full ATS with built-in video plus Zoom, Meet and Teams from the Startup plan, at $157 a month yearly or $189 monthly.

Who it's for. A small or midsize company that wants job posts, pipeline and interviews in one tool, with monthly billing available.

Who it's not for. A team that only wants one-way video. You'd pay for a full ATS to use one feature.

The catch. Video recording is only on Business, $439 a month yearly ($529 monthly). Cheaper plans run live calls.

How to move from Spark Hire. Use the 14-day trial to import one job and its candidates. Move the ATS first, video second.

Pricing. Startup $157/month yearly ($189 monthly); Growth $273 ($329); Business $439 ($529).

Interviewer.AI: one-way video with AI scoring

AI scoring

Why switch to Interviewer.AI. Some teams leave Spark Hire because they want the opposite of a human-only review: automatic scoring of one-way video. That's Interviewer.AI's core feature, with AI avatars on Professional.

Who it's for. A high-volume team that wants a first ranking of candidates before a recruiter watches anything.

Who it's not for. A team that hires in the EU or wants every call made by a person. AI scoring brings extra compliance work there.

The catch. Usage runs on credits (50 a month on Essential), and the page says there are no refunds.

How to move from Spark Hire. Use the 14-day trial on one role and check the scores against your own recruiters' picks before trusting them.

Pricing. Essential $199/month (50 credits, 3 job postings, 15 users); Professional $399/month (120 credits); Enterprise on quote.

Leave Spark Hire in six steps

Order matters: export first, cancel second. The other way round, you can lose interviews for roles that are still open.

01

Download your interviews while you're still on annual

First

Spark Hire's pricing page marks interview downloads as "Annual Only". If you're on annual, download what open roles and your retention policy need now. If you're on monthly, ask support what's possible before you cancel.

Priority
open roles
02

Keep only what has to move

Next

A candidate you passed on two years ago doesn't belong in your new tool. Keep interviews tied to live hiring and anything your policy requires. Delete the rest.

Rule
move the minimum
03

Line up cancellation with your renewal date

Before renewal

Spark Hire bills upfront and doesn't refund. Note the renewal date and cancel in writing before it. Some customers say they kept getting charged after telling Spark Hire the tool wasn't working for them.

Keep
written proof
04

Rebuild your questions and welcome video

Then

Copy over your questions, thinking time and answer time. Record a short welcome video and tell candidates how their video will be used. A clear practice question cuts drop-offs.

Write down
time, use, contact
05

Run one new role side by side

To judge

Keep Spark Hire on live roles and open a new one in the tool you picked. Hireflix gives a month, Hirevire and Truffle 7 days, Breezy HR and Interviewer.AI 14 days. Compare completion rates and recording problems.

06

Ask for deletion, then close the account

Last

After you cancel, Spark Hire only commits to storing data for up to 30 days, and its privacy policy allows deletion right after the account ends. Ask in writing and keep the confirmation: you're the data controller, Spark Hire is the processor.

Migration pitfalls

What makes a Spark Hire exit go wrong

These mistakes cost lost videos, an extra invoice or candidates who drop off. None is hard to avoid.

Cancelling before exporting

Downloads are annual only and data is kept for 30 days after cancellation. Export first.

Dropping to monthly to run out the clock

Monthly removes interview downloads. Don't switch down right before you leave.

Comparing monthly with annual

Hireflix shows annual only; Hirevire and Truffle show both. Put everything on twelve months first.

Leaving Willo roles open

Every live role bills monthly. Close it the day it's filled.

Ignoring storage limits

Hirevire keeps videos 90 days. If your policy is longer, budget the $9 a month add-on.

Forgetting the candidate

A welcome video, a practice question and a stated deadline keep people from quitting at the camera.

FAQ · 8 questions

Spark Hire alternatives: common questions

  • How much does Spark Hire cost?

Video interviews start at $249 a month billed yearly (unlimited jobs and users) or $299 month to month (5 jobs, 5 users), plus sales tax. Those are starting prices: the page says pricing varies by company size. A year on annual is at least $2,988.

  • What's a cheaper alternative to Spark Hire?

Hirevire starts at $39 a month billed yearly and Hireflix at $75, both with unlimited users. If you hire occasionally, Willo Lite costs $59 per live role per month and nothing in months with no open role.

  • Does Spark Hire have a free trial?

The pricing page doesn't mention one, service starts at payment and there are no refunds. Hireflix offers a free month, Hirevire 7 days with no card, Truffle 7 days with 30 credits.

  • Can I download my videos when I leave Spark Hire?

Yes, on an annual plan: interview downloads are annual only. Do it before you cancel, because Spark Hire only commits to keeping your data for up to 30 days afterwards.

  • Does Spark Hire use AI to score candidates?

Spark Hire doesn't state it clearly on its pricing page, and outside sources disagree. If automatic scoring is what you want, Interviewer.AI is built around it; if you want people to judge every video, Hireflix and Hirevire keep it that way.

  • What are Spark Hire Recruit and Spark Hire Meet?

Recruit is the ATS that came from the Comeet acquisition, sold on annual contracts only from $335 a month up to 200 employees, with the price rising with headcount. Meet is the video interview product. For a whole-ATS switch, Breezy HR or our recruitment agency software ranking are good next stops.

  • One-way or live interviews: which should I keep?

One-way video handles the first screen at volume; live calls fit later rounds. Most teams keep live interviews in Zoom, Meet or Teams and move one-way video to a cheaper tool. Our async video tools comparison covers the wider field.

  • Is HireVue a better alternative?

Not if price is why you're leaving: HireVue publishes no pricing at all. Our guide to switching from HireVue explains its exit path.
